We are celebrating opening day of our Liberation's Station Black Lit Library® at our PERMANENT HOST SITE @sarahpdukegardens! 10AM The library is a permanent part of Duke Gardens’ classroom resources. We welcome all visitors to explore this new library in the Doris Duke Center during these free winter programs: Classroom Open Hours from 10-noon each Monday, Nov. 18 through Feb. 20 (excluding Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, when the university is closed) Liberation’s Station Winter Storytime in the classroom: January 13 and 27 and February 10 and 24, at 10 a.m. Hear a book from the Liberation's Station Black Lit Library read aloud, followed by activities facilitated by Duke Gardens. Additionally, the classroom will be open from 10 a.m.-noon on Feb. 1 and March 7, following the Free Family Garden Walks. Please check back each season for new opportunities to explore the library. "We have extended ourselves to connect with black-owned establishments and community partners that are thriving and/or serving in underrepresented and marginalized communities to curate, provide and install literature," says Victoria Scott Miller, who launched the nonprofit Liberation's Station. "As the community begins to change and the narratives, history, and intention are at risk of being re-written," she says. "Our goal is to give a child of color an ounce of territory and assurance that they are and will remain the protagonist in their own stories."
