Storytelling & Narrative - The Story Arc
The story arc is a graphic representation which indicates the path that a story takes. It helps to define the rough outline of the story, and establish the beginning, middle and end. The arc breaks the story down into 5 main points; exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.
The exposition is the beginning of the story where the scene is set, the characters are introduced and the viewers are informed of the main plot points and conflicts.
The rising action is the part of the story where the plot develops and the tension builds towards the climax.
The climax of the story is the point of the highest tension and drama and usually involves a lot of action or excitement.
The falling action is the part of the story which comes after the climax and the events of the climax slow and the story heads towards a resolution.
The resolution is the end of the story and the events of the climax are often solved.

This American Life
On " This American Life" podcast I listen to a story about Sarah who work for the United States Army but was from Iran. Sarah talks about her marriage not being good her being broke not seeing her kids for 27 day and many other struggles working for the United States Army. People well describe her to you as a cool collective person during dangerous situations. While I was listening to this podcast it gave me a very good visual of all the challenges Sarah had to endure,I can hear in her voice the emotions she was feeling, and also gave me a good picture of where she was at. Listening to these podcast It can help me get a good ideal of how a good story teller well draw you into their stories.

Shoot the Damn Giraffe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Great example in yesterday's European media of the power of narrative. The UN food relief supplies that were destined to make it to the encircled city of Homs were shot at and stopped from arriving to save multiple human lives. Barely noticed. A Danish zoo chose to end the life of a 2yr old captive giraffe that was messing with the gene pool of giraffes in European captivity. The zoo, as promised, humanely shot the giraffe, then slaughtered it as an education event for the public and fed it to the lions. Trended across the continent, huge petitions signed to save the giraffe, publics appalled.. Bad day to be a citizen of Homs or a Danish zoo executive (now receiving death threats). Good day to be a Copenhagen Zoo lion. The power of narrative. - SW, Richmond Photos: Screenshots from BBC News and The Telegraph.
