How much of detective "powers" are powers and how much is them losing their mind? If I understood correctly (I hope so), detective's sickness affected his mind and the healing... Exchange? Deal? He made affected his ability to see things right (perceive reality correctly?). So, he has access to magic and visions but, are they all true? Is he 100% healed? Or are some of their visions fabricated like Puzzles says?

Okay so Detective had an inoperable brain tumor that effected their memory pretty badly, and was also killing them. They were given a few months to live after diagnosis, but they didn't accept that at all.

So they turned to Victor Fries, also known as Mr. Freeze, a...let's call him a situational villain. This episode might help shed some light on him and his motivations.

Victor did remove the tumor, but unfortunately Detective died in the process. Now, as previously discussed, the Lazarus Pit can heal any wound, and even resurrect the dead, if they've only been dead for a short time, in exchange for a temporary insanity. this 'insanity' can manifest in different ways. In Detectives case, it opened them up to too much information at once. Detective still has a human brain, that can only process so much stimuli, and so they were oveloaded by it until it faded back to a manageable level.

Detective is completely healed, and their visions are completely true. However:

Detective does not always know how to interpret them, and so does not always share what they have seen, because

Detective does still have some slight narcissistic tendencies, and has a hard time entertaining the thought that they might be wrong about something, which is the real root of their conflicts with Puzzles. Also

Detective does sometimes misinterpret what they have seen, but due to the above, can't admit or change it. For example, they severely misinterpret how much danger both Helix and Narci pose, and in Narci's case, it leads to disaster.

It's not that Detective perceives reality wrong, it's that they perceive more reality than a human mind is meant to. Now, that in itself could be considered a form of insanity, since it does lead them into acting in ways that don't make sense to everybody else. But they aren't actually deluded, they just have a bigger picture than everyone else, and they don't always know what to do with it, and they can't admit to not knowing.

It was hard for her to concentrate on the chart she’d been working on. Her coffee had barely kicked in, so she was reclining at her desk, tapping along to one of the rhythm games on her phone. Perfect score, of course- until that text message came through. She lost her rhythm, tapping a little to early and missing one of the notes. Now her score was ruined, and there was no point in continuing when it wasn’t.

With a huff, she swiped over to her texts, realizing that it was Narcissus. She smiled, tapping on his text and not knowing the content until... well. Her mouth dropped open, a strangled sound escaping the doctor as she stared. He was naked. Naked and posed with every part of him on display. Oh. Oh my. Oh shit. What prompted that? Faye assumed it had been intentional, and she sat there contemplating a response. She worried her lip with her teeth, before deciding on a reply.

The worst part is I ended up going down a rabbit hole which led me to watch both movie trailers, and the similarities between the two characters are astounding. Breakfast and a Hunt (1/?)

This was garbage and I’m moderately ashamed of it 😂 but here it is. My first fic, might continue it, might not. It literally depends on if I can see where it’s going. 

Chocobros x OC (Mana) Word Count: 880 SFW

Brushing her long orange hair out of her face, Mana’s green eyes scanned the scene in front of her. Dave had sent her to relay a message to a group of men who were making a decent name for themselves in the community of hunters. She was a hunter herself, and a capable one at that. By no means the best but certainly able to hold her own. Mana had managed to track the quartet to Narcie Haven in the Kelbass Grasslands. The sight in front of her was one of chaos. Two of the four were already out of the tent; they had introduced themselves to her as Ignis and Gladiolus. Ignis was cooking breakfast and Gladiolus stared at her, assessing whether she was a danger or not. The other two however…

“Noct! Get your boot out of my face!” The blonde boy whined.

“My boot wouldn’t be in your face if you hadn’t tripped us up Prompto!” The raven-haired Noctis replied bitterly. The two of them squirmed against each other, trying to untangle themselves.

“Our apologies for keeping you waiting Miss. The zipper for the tent got stuck last night and we’re still not used to it being that low and the chocobos meant there was further complications” Ignis said apologetically.

“Not to worry… I’m not exactly busy. Just here to relay a message from Meldacio. Dave sent me to find you” Mana explained.

“Oh? And how did you find us?” Gladio asked, now holding the two boys up in each of his arms, having gotten tired of their incessant complaints.  

“Got to Lestallum last night. Asked some of the tipsters where I might find you boys and they said you’d taken a hunt late in the afternoon to the Kelbass Grasslands. Figured you’d have stayed at the closest Haven if you weren’t back in Lestallum. Or you’d been killed, but Dave assured me that wasn’t likely”

“Well, it seems your deductions was remarkably accurate” complemented Ignis as he offered her a seat with them all. Mana accepted gratefully, although then felt bad as she realized someone would have to go without a seat.

“Yeah! Like a detective!” the blonde boy, Prompto, chirped happily as he dug into his breakfast. Mana offered a smile and laughed.

“I wouldn’t call myself a detective…” she replied, brushing her hair out of her face bashfully.

“What’s the message anyway?” asked Gladio, wanting to get down to business. After all, they didn’t come here to savour the morning breeze and she was sure Gladio wanted to get back into town to collect the bounty money.

“Ah… Only that there are tags around here…” she started to say before stopping, a troubled expression painted her face.

“…So? He couldn’t send anyone else?” Asked Noctis, confused.

“The one tag was grabbed by a daemon. Not a standard beast. Apparently we’ve lost two hunters to it… It has three tags now” she sighed, leaning back in the seat. Mana hadn’t known the hunters well, but they all referred to each other as ‘brother’ or ‘sister’. It still stung to lose someone.

“So he wants us to go head-to-head with it?” asked Gladio, his muscular arms folding as he thought.

“It would appear so. I’m afraid I don’t know what makes you guys more capable than other hunters, but at the very least you seem to have quite a record when it comes to hunts. I don’t think I’d be able to bring down that daemon either in all honesty” Mana mused. Silence fell on the group as they considered what to do next. Mana shifted uncomfortably before checking the time.

“Well… I took up a hunt around here, might as well get a move on with it” Mana said, heaving herself out of the chair.

“Why not stay for breakfast? You must have left early to get here” Ignis offered her a plate and a cup. Mana stared at the food, surprised.

“O-oh… I don’t want to intrude on you! I’ve done that enough” she protested weakly. She was pretty hungry and it smelled pretty good too.

“Don’t worry about it! Maybe we could help you on your hunt?” Noctis offered, swallowing a mouthful of the food. “What are you hunting?”

“An Arba herd. It’ll be a tough one, but a bit of money can’t hurt” Mana replied offhandedly, slowly starting to eat the food.

“The money may not hurt but the hunt can” Gladio said wisely. Mana nodded slowly. She was covered in scars where hunts had gone wrong. She knew how to be careful, Mana didn’t really want this hunt but it was the only one available to her at the time. An Arba was no issue for her, but a herd of them posed a different problem.

“… Thinking about it, your help would be appreciated” Mana spoke slowly. “And to save you guys heading all the way back up to Meldacio, I’m come with you on the hunt for that daemon. I won’t get in the way, I’ll hang back and let the professionals handle it” she said with a wide smile.

“Sounds like a plan” Noctis exclaimed casually. Mana raised the cup to them in a cheers before drinking. It seemed like it could be the start of a very promising friendship.

Dig8al Media and Personal Life: Selfies  📷

When dealing with the digital media and its effects on personal life, the most prevalent concept that we come across is selfie culture. This is one which, despite being disliked by many, is a culture that intertwines itself with our personal lives on a global scale. A selfie is known as “an image of oneself taken with a smartphone or webcam, which communicates some kind of message about the self and which is shared through digital platforms” (Iqani and Shroeder, 2016: 405). Selfies have now become common features in the online lives of individuals who are digitally connected. It is said that selfies hone in on the importance of personalized communication and self-promotion, transcending any cultural and linguistic boundaries that may exist in contemporary culture. The selfie culture is also not only relative to one socio-economic class but are embraced by common citizens and celebrities alike. There are three claims which arise when analyzing this form of expression such as, narcissism, marketing and self-expression.

 According to Halpern and Valenzuela (2016), social network sites provide a platform for individuals, who tend to lean toward the narcissistic side, to develop less intimate rather than emotionally committed relationships, as well as social relationships with weak ties can occur (Ellison, Steinfield and Lampe, 2007). These connections give rise to need for acquiring the attention of more people. Secondly, the amount of contacts an individual has, is displayed openly on these platforms and thus, become indicators of popularity and status that one has in society. Narcissists can therefore preserve their inflated self-confidence by gaining a higher number of likes, affirming their ‘grandiosity’ of selfie posts. Lastly, social media platforms also allow for self-promotion depicting themselves in highly tailored fashions through profile pictures and selfies, ‘satisfying their vanity through photo’s’ (Halpern and Valenzuela, 2016: 3).

 The second claim which exists, identifies selfies as a tool for ‘marketing’ oneself. According to Halpern and Valenzuela (2016: 4), selfies provide users of social media platforms, “novel opportunities to customize their self-presentation by giving picture-takers a vast array of ways to portray themselves”. In simpler words, celebrities and common individuals alike, are afforded the opportunity to market themselves through selfies, in exactly the way in which they choose, believing themselves to be more physically appealing in certain images than others. The perfect example of this comes from the ‘selfie queen’ Kim Kardashian who is notoriously known for making selfies such a global trend for many. Kim markets herself by continuously updating her fans on her whereabouts through the use of selfies. Last month saw Kim trying to impress her followers by posting a selfie of herself in a nude bikini and failing to realise the uproar that would ensue when fans discovered that the exact same selfie was posted three years prior to the date on which she claimed it was taken. Lewis (2017) says “we have to admit, with the number of selfies Kim is famous for taking, we’re surprised to learn she didn’t have a brand new image to share but she does look gorgeous in the picture from the trip to Mexico, so who can blame a girl?”. From this example it is clearly seen that selfies are considered to be advertisements of the self. As noted by Hess (2015), selfies were characterized to accent the self as they are best understood through their ‘stylised language of the self’ which can often include a sense of authenticity that is often representational.  In conclusion, these representations can often be described as spontaneously performed but are rehearsed, thereby resulting in a sense of performed legitimacy.

 The third claim in the selfie culture is that of self-expression which argues that the act of taking a selfie allows individuals to express their emotions or personality through their body or facial expressions. Selfies also play a vital role when individuals are a part of political movements and are trying to send a message to the public. Hess (2015: 1633) indicates that an early selfie trend which existed was known as the Occupy movement, which raised the issue of the accumulation of wealth being in 1% of the population while “showing solidarity with the other 99%”, the rest of the population. This movement occurred during the Great Recession, where selfies of this ‘99%’ were circulated on a global scale, including handwritten explanations of financial and personal hardships of the average citizen and was then ended with the statement of “I am the other 99%”. This personal note together with the individuals facial and body expressions showed clearly the honest and authentic raw emotion imbued in these selfies (Hess, 2015: 1633). The feminist movement is also one which makes extensive use of selfies as many selfies are found stating “I need feminism because…” or “I am a feminist because…” emphasizing the cruciality that feminism plays in an individual’s life. Selfies, in these cases, invite a certain amount of ethos, showing clearly the honest and bare portrayal of the character being photographed.

 Selfies can also be perceived by many as a practice that is not desirable as many believe that it can portray narcissistic or vain elements. Kit Harington, who plays the role of Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, recently gave reasons for avoiding taking selfies with his fans. According to an article written by Mashable (2017), selfies are not something Kit enjoys and sets aside days where he refuses to pose for his fans selfies. He indicates that he never takes selfies with his fiancé Rose Leslie as “it makes their relationship feel like…puppets…like they’re a walking show”. It can clearly be seen that sometimes celebrities just avoid taking selfies to prevent the feeling of their lives constantly being under scrutiny. For the common individual however, they may dislike taking selfies as a result of not wanting to be judged by their physical appearances. Rous (2015) indicates in an article featured in the Cosmopolitan, that she does not think she is unattractive but when she sees how she is portrayed in selfies she is left horrified. “My eyes go beady, my mouth narrows, my nose expands. Those cheekbones I thought I had? Gone. I start to wonder if the photos are actually more accurate. You might say that I have good self-esteem but horrible selfie-esteem” (Rous, 2015). In conclusion, good or bad, selfies form an increasingly crucial role in our lives and the selfie culture as a whole, impacts on our daily lives in many ways.
