Pellet Plant Setup, Machine, Equipment & Applications - Bagasse/Sawdust/Husk to Pellet
What is a Biomass Pellet?
Biomass pellets are a kind of biofuel resource. Biofuels or biomass energy refer to renewable energy sources such as solar energy, and wind energy, which produce heat or electricity for human life and pose little harm to the environment.
Biomass pellets are a common type of biomass fuel, made from wood waste, agricultural biomass, commercial grass, and forestry waste. In addition to transportation and storage savings, biomass pelletizing allows for simple and cost-effective processing. The regular shape and small size of the biomass pellets allow automatic feeding with very fine calibration. High-density pellets also allow for compact storage and efficient transport over long distances. Pellets are very dense and can be produced with low moisture, so they can be burned with very high combustion efficiency.
Pellets are used for residential heating in pellet stoves and boilers, and to generate heat, steam, and electricity in service industries, manufacturing factories, and power generation.
How are Pellets made?
Unlike a conventional wood stove that burns firewood, a pellet stove uses wood pellets as fuel. These pellets are made from lumber by-products such as sawdust and wood chips, which would otherwise end up as waste. Pellets burn more efficiently and more cleanly than wood and produce very little air pollution.
Pellets are made from a variety of raw materials: sawdust, wood chips, wood shavings, small logs, and even scraps of wood left over from furniture and other manufacturing. These different types of lumber by-products first have to be reduced to the same size and consistency. Therefore, the first step is a huge grinding machine.
SNCE provides these grinding machines which convert the raw material into finely ground material (example-sawdust to pellet) which further make pellets

Inside this Grinding machine, mammoth steel hammers pulverize the raw material into uniform pieces. The raw material contains about 45 percent moisture, so it goes into a dryer to reduce the moisture level to between 11% and 12%. So, what was rough raw material has now been ground to a finer and dried state But, it's still not fine enough, so it goes into a mill, which processes it further until it's roughly the size of rice grains. A feed pipe transfers this wood fiber to a row of presses.
HAMMER MILL SYSTEM
Capacity
· Hammer Mill heavy-duty to convert Bagasse/ Biomass the o same size of maximum 6 to 8 mm
· Able to handle 2 to 6 tons of Biomass with 15% moisture
· Screen able to screen out fiber not to go to Briquette or pellet machine
· System comes fitted with pneumatic material collection mechanism
· Dust Collection Cyclone & airlock system
· Power - 70 kW to 150 kW
The moisture content of the fiber is critical. If it's too wet, the pellet press can risk clogging up. That's why each pellet press has a readout displaying the fiber moisture level. It's essential for the stability of the pellets that the moisture be at the ideal level. Excess moisture would eventually evaporate, breaking the pellets apart. So, to analyze the moisture content, a lab technician tests the sample.
A Pellet press is a large drum with perforated rollers inside. The rollers apply pressure as the drum rotates. This compresses the fiber by 400% and extrudes it outward through the holes. A knife slices the extruding fiber at programmed intervals, cutting it into lengths of about 1 & 2 tenths inches. The compression generates heat which draws out the tree sap still contained in the wood fiber. This app called lignin acts as an adhesive locking in the pellet shape. The journey from raw material to pellet is now complete.
The pellets however are a bit quite warm and sticky so they clump together. The solution is to keep pellets for about 15 minutes in a cooler. As the room temperature air blows through the pellets, cooling and drying the tacky lignin, all pellets properly separate from each other. And this is how pellets are made.
