Last post got me thinking of how the old trio, Mordecai, Silver, and Viktor line up with the new trio of Ivy, Rocky, and Freckle.

Lackadaisy spoilers below the cut!

I disagree with my original assessment, if I'm remembering it correctly.

I think Ivy actually really parallels Mordecai. They both were pulled into the Lackadaisy because of Atlas and idolized how they felt around him. Ivy loved being given special treatment as his goddaughter and Mordecai loved having Atlas as a sort of father figure.

It also puts another dimension on Mordecai being unable to shoot Ivy. Shooting Ivy would be like shooting a younger version of himself. He's been there, back then he would also do anything to keep Atlas' legacy alive, and he just can't bring himself to screw Ivy over.

Meanwhile, Rocky parallels Silver. Rocky was thrown out of his house due to some sort of incident just like Silver, and both desperately cling onto the Lackadaisy as their last hope. Or they used to, until other options opened themselves up to Silver and he didn't want to be on the sinking ship. Plus, both of their families still see them as disasters waiting to happen. Though, thinking about it, Silver is simply loyal to Mordecai, and Rocky to Mitzi.

Finally, Freckle parallels Viktor. They're both hotheads with a heart of gold, even if Viktor's is more shielded. They also both tried to have "normal" lives before getting involved in the Lackadaisy, Viktor starting a family and Freckle trying to become a police officer. Viktor might hate Ivy dating Freckle so much because he sees himself in Freckle, and worries Freckle will end up separating from Ivy too.

This honestly tempts me to write an AU where the new three are trying to pick up the pieces the original three left behind. Or feel connected to them in a strange sense based on what they left behind.

Hard to say what Mordecai would leave behind that Ivy would be interested in, besides maybe photographs she can use to piece together what things used to be like.

Rocky would definitely keep and use Silver's old knives as an extra form of self defense. It would make him less cursed from just having spaghetti arms.

Freckle would probably end up using Viktor's old tools and maybe he'd be the driver instead of Ivy, since that used to be Viktor's thing. I guess in this AU Viktor actually agreed to retire too.

Random thoughts I may or may not do something with. But I'm fascinated with the idea of the new three being curious about the old three and parallels and such.

It is freaking hilarious to me people keep bringing up V/iktor's wife (who he is clearly estranged from) whenever they panic over M/ordecai x V/iktor being a thing. Why? Because in my Silver x M/ordecai fic a literal, huge plot point is that, for half the story, Silver is still technically married to Valentin, and has been for years, until they go to kill him. Not because Silver was technically still married to him and that was a problem, but because Valentin was a jackass lol.

They're fictional criminals, they do not give a shit if someone is "technically married" to someone if they haven't talked to them for literal fucking years.

Also I think half the fandom forgot AUs exist and people can just write in that they separated because it's, again, fiction. And she is a fictional cat who doesn't need people white knighting for her and her husband on the internet lol.

The new short has me curious: how would little Ivy and Silver interact. I imagine he’d be hiding cause he’s kinda scared of kids, but Ivy’s persistent so I imagine she’d get him talking somehow

Sometimes they do, and sometimes they do not. Especially when it comes to Mordecai and Silver, sometimes they're more comfortable having their own bed to themselves, other times having the others around is a great comfort. Viktor also sometimes wants his alone time and Serafine sometimes wants to spend time with Nico, so.

🦥 In a modern setting, what job would each of you have?

I think Mordecai and Serafine would probably still invest in their bakery and candle/herb shop. But Viktor would probably be retired at this point, Zib could have an online solo act with his saxophone, and Silver might publish his writing online perhaps on the side and help Mordecai full time.
