SUMMER 2010 J-dorama watchlist!
(c) Hiura Satoru, NTV
After that uneventful Spring 2010 j-dorama season (where only ONE series "passed" my criteria….)
I'm so HAPPY to know there are a lot of shows worth watching this season! :)
I've only been following 3 so far, and am about to watch the 4th one to see if it is "worth it" HAHAHA :P
Those 3 (and the reasons why I've decided to watch them) are:
Hotaru no Hikari 2
I've seen the first season of this romantic comedy. And comparing the korean to the japanese romcoms… I think this is the one that can be classified as closest to being Korean. This series is HILARIOUS. Starring Fujiki Naohito and Ayase Haruka… well. I just LOVE their chemistry on screen. Also, both are talented actors.. specially Fujiki Naohito (who I've seen play MANY roles..yet.. this one is DEFINITELY the MOST hilarious one!)
Aside from the continuation of the 1st series, the reason I've decided to watch this is because the "other" guy will be played by none other than Mukai Osamu… and he's portraying the role that REALLY suits him (kinda same role as the one in Atashinchi no Danshi and Bambino! ..though of course I don't mind him playing the bad/serious guy.. but still, this kind of role suits him BETTER).
I think I like season 2 better than season 1.. at least based on the first few episodes anyway. :) I'm not a fan of romcoms (that are not the shoujo manga type) much but.. I suppose this is an exception.
Moyashimon
THOSE MICROBES ARE SO CUTE! Hahaha.. I just fell in love with them that I even decided to watch the anime version (after YEARS of anime fandom hiatus). I'm also planning to read the manga chapters when I find time..
Anyhow, aside from the microbes… the series is just ridiculous. I hate to say it, but that's how I see it. It is.. OUTRAGEOUS… kinda in the same "feel" to it as Yukan Club, Mei-chan no Shitsuji, and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge.
I'm not a fan of random storylines so maybe that's why I don't like this one as much. But the microbes are really oh so cute. >.>
HAMMER SESSION! You know how sometimes you get exposed to artists and you don't end up liking them right away? ..But in the end.. you DO (after months and years) ..kinda like saying "That artist grew up on me"
WELL. This happened. AGAIN. (The first occurence was.. my ichiban.. who I kinda ignored in Gokusen 3.. but anyway. back to the topic)
For the second time, it has happened. With Hayami Mokomichi. DUE TO THIS SERIES! LOL.
-Hammer Session is like……. Gokusen, Dragon Zakura, and Kurosagi COMBINED.
DO YOU KNOW HOW AWESOME THAT IS!!!!!! LOL.
-aside from Mokomichi Hayami (who I also kinda ignored in Gokusen 2 [I swear, Gokusen.. the starting point of all ikemen leading men]). Shida Mirai also stars in this series.
She's definitely grown. In a positive way. I'd like to see her become kinda like Toda Erika. XD
Higa Manami is also a part of this, and having seen her in Code Blue, Code Blue 2, and Majo Saiban.. I'm confident she'll bring a different flavor into the mix that is HAMMER SESSION. :D :D :D
As for the others I have YET to check out, here are a few info on them (also I'll only include the artists I've encountered before):
Unubore Deka - detective story, comedy starring Nagase Tomoya of TOKIO, Ikuta Toma, Kaname Jun, and Nakashima Mika
Tetsu no Hone - moral dilemma story starring Koike Teppei (aaaw.. he's starting to go for mature roles..)
JOKER Yurusarezaru Sosakan - hero by day, fugitive by night kind of story (Anne and Nishikido Ryo are co-starring too)
Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku - romance.. Matsujun stars (well, Matsujun and romance.. not his fan but.. Matsujun and romance? All too good to pass up)
Gakeppuchi no Eri - self-determination story starring Yamada Yu (probably won't watch this, but we'll see)
Already 3 episodes a week, and 5 other tentative follows.
I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO gonna enjoy this season!!!! YEAH!! :]
PS. This blog was originally posted on LiveJournal.

I'm currently binge rewatching my favourite doramas and felt like sharing my favourite actors.
真田広之 (Sanada Hiroyuki)
Of course I know him from many western movies as well but I especially enjoyed 校教師 and こんな恋のはなし with him.
藤木直人 (Fujiki Naohito)
I first saw him in 高校教師 and ホタルノヒカリ and from then on decided I need to watch everything with him (still working on that till this day)
豊川悦司 (Toyokawa Etsushi)
Until this day 愛していると言ってくれ is one of my favourite doramas. It's always worth to rewatch.
木村拓哉 (Kimura Takuya)
Mr. Brain was my very first dorama and then it only took Beautiful Life to absolute fall in love him as an actor.
生田斗真 (Ikuta Toma)
Surprisingly an actor who I didn't discover through some 90s dorama. 彼らが本気で編むときは and 先生!are such amazing movies, I wish everyone would watch them!
西島秀俊 (Nishijima Hidetoshi)
He was so cute in 僕とスターの99日 and きのう何食べた?was a joy to watch. I wish more older actors would play roles in BL dorama.
Those are just some because I really watch a lot of doramas. And obviously I enjoy age gap romances so the older guys are always a treat for me. I can really recommend all the doramas I mentioned.

Hana Yori Dango-Boys Over Flowers & Meteor Garden
2nd Male Lead
Admittedly this is one of my favorite stories. Yes, it's toxic af but I love every version listed here and every interpretation of the 2nd Male Lead. As I already did a post on the ML (Male Lead) & FL (Female Lead) Let's Meet all versions of the man that turned the head of the female lead before the Male Lead stole her heart. With out further ado the 2nd Male Lead
Number 1: Meet the very first live 2nd Male Lead Hanawaza Rui. The year was 1995. The country was Japan where the story originated. And it was a movie version. Unknown and not very popular I still respect it. Hanawaza Rui was played by NAOHITO FUJIKI
Number 2: Meet the very first series version 2nd Male Lead Hauze Lei. The year was 2001. The country was Taiwan. A name change to METEOR GARDEN. A very success series with 19 episodes and a sequel. Hauze Lei was played by VIC ZHOU.
Number 3: Meet the 1st Series Version from Japan. The Year was 2005. Hana Yori Dango (now called by its loose translation BOYS OVER FLOWERS) followed by Hana Yori Dango Returns and a movie finale. The 2nd Male Lead was back to Hanazawa Rui and he was played by OGURI SHUN
Number 4: Meet South Korea's version of the 2nd Male Lead. And he was a prettyboy. Absolutely gorgeous like the rest. Korea named it's version Yoon Ji Hoo. He came closer to the anime with his hair color. Giving the 2nd Male his own spin and it was successful as the others. Yoon Ji Hoo was played by KIM HYUN JOONG
Number 5: The year was 2018 and China remade Meteor Garden so our 2nd Male Lead went back to Hauze Lei. A remake of Taiwan's version. Again with the hair color choice he highly resembled the anime 2nd Male Lead like the Japan Series and South Korea. This gorgeous version of Hauze Lei was played by DARREN CHEN
Now everyone of these gorgeous guys played the 2nd Male Lead with charisma and charm. All brought their own version brilliantly. Choosing a favorite is virtually impossible because I love them all. Although the 1995 movie version is less known even he was good to me. Even though that version was more satire. I respect his portrayal.
To be honest I did not watch these in order, my interest in Asian entertainment came late as I am from the United States of America. But I've always strayed away from American TV not rejecting it but adding to it. My first introduction to this story was the South Korean one. I adored Lee Min-Ho and his F4 so I then watched his series THE INHERITORS on Netflix (HEIRS) but I later learned there were more versions of Boys Over Flowers so I watched Meteor Garden 2018. I loved Dylan Wang and Shancai and their version but it didn't take away from adoring Lee Min-Ho and the South Korean version. The I watched Hana Yori Dango (the anime) then I watched the 2005 version with Jun Matsumoto. Different from Lee Min-Ho and Dylan Wang but still excellent. One wasn't better than the other. They all shined in their individual interpretation. Then I finally saw Jerry Yan as Daoming Si. And yes Different than the others but just as powerful. I found my favorite in all of them. You gotta understand these were done in different times and eras. And in their time they each ruled as F4 and the poor girl that came and changed their lives. And they changed her. Later I did see the 1995 movie version and thought it was so far fetched but again it was a different time, so I loved it for being the 1st. It set the tone. Each adaptation brought something new. Stepping it up not being better but being exceptional as well in its time.
So, I can't choose a favorite. I LOVE ALL OF THESE ADAPTATIONS.
Hats off to all the Hanazawa Rui, Hauze Lei and Yoon Ji Hoo.

do you have any jdrama recs? i really wanna start watching them! thank u sm! 💓
hi, anon! I do have some jdrama recommendations but since you didn't specify your preferred genre, I'd take it that you're fine with any. (٥⁀▽⁀ ) You can click the links to check the summary.
Bitter Blood (Partners by Blood) - the first jdrama I finished watching, the comedy in this series is great and aside from the genre mentioned, there are other elements of the series that made it worth watching. Genre: Action, Comedy, Mystery Main Cast: Satou Takeru, Watabe Atsuro
Kagi no Kakatta Heya - this got my interest because of the main cast but it definitely became one of my favorites that I still rewatch even to this day Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Drama Main Cast: Ohno Satoshi, Toda Erika, Sato Koichi
Good Doctor - this one originated from Kdrama of the same title, I watched the Korean and US versions so I can definitely say that this version has a different flavor to offer Genre: Life, Drama, Medical Main Cast: Yamazaki Kento, Ueno Juri, Fujiki Naohito
Mystery to Iunakare - I posted this one before and I even read the manga, the mysteries are not that mind-blowing but the main character is very interesting. this will have a movie that will feature one of the arcs in the manga and I am also looking forward to it. ^^ Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Life, Drama Main Cast: Suda Masaki
Shikaku Tantei Higurashi Tabito - the MC is also interesting, he had an accident in the past that lead to losing all his senses except his sense of sight and he is using his ability as a private detective. this has 2 seasons by the way so if ever you're going to watch this and enjoyed watching the first season, you might as well check season 2 Genre: Mystery, Drama, Supernatural Main Cast: Matsuzaka Tori, Tabe Mikako, Hamada Gaku, Sumida Moeno
Nobunaga Concerto - this one's based on manga, I never read the manga or watched the anime so maybe this could be another reason why I appreciated the live-action version but if you haven't read or watched the animanga, you can give this a try too Genre: Action, Military, Historical, Comedy Main Cast: Oguri Shun, Shibasaki Ko
3 Nen A Gumi: Ima kara Mina-san wa, Hitojichi Desu - you can watch this on Netflix, this is also a very good series Genre: Action, Thriller, Mystery, Psychological Main Cast: Suda Masaki, Nagano Mei
99.9: Keiji Senmon Bengoshi - MC is also weird so it got me, I have a thing for characters that are too weird but too good in what they do. this has season 2 as well ^^ Genre: Mystery, Comedy, Law Main Cast: Matsumoto Jun, Kagawa Teruyuki, Eikura Nana
Radiation House - this is also based on manga, I've read only a few chapters but I think the series was also well-made, there's romance but not to the point that it would go off the actual plot Genre: Mystery, Drama, Medical Main Cast: Kubota Masataka, Honda Tsubasa, Hirose Alice
Bokura wa Kiseki de Dekite Iru - now this one could be a total hit or a total miss for you, some find it boring but I really loved this series, if you are fine with watching a pure slice of life drama, you might also like this one, the MC is also eccentric which also became one of the main element of the story Genre: Life, Drama Main Cast: Kubota Masataka, Honda Tsubasa, Hirose Alice
So these are just some of the series I can recommend. If you're planning to check some of these and liked them too, feel free to DM me so we can talk about it more. It's not often that I encounter someone interested in jdrama. ^^ But damn, just reminiscing about these series makes me want to watch them again.

(SPOILER for anyone wants to watch it) okay great cause i watched it last month and i love kimutaku dearly but him being naohito fujiki's (younger) brother just did not seem... plausible. and then i look up fujiki's bday and he actually is older than kimura i was shocked
yeah, and honestly it’s still hard to believe that fujiki’s older/practically the same age as kimura like…he’s always seemed younger than he actually is to me
For fair comparisons sake: I’ve watched Tsuki no Koibito and Hotaru no Hikari S2…both came out in 2010, and have a similar cutesy romance theming going:
??? like…you’re telling me the man all the way to the left is the same age as the guy in the screenshot to the right?? lmfao, no…no way
drop the skincare routine fujiki, please and thanks 🙏 🤲
#priceless spoilers#spoilers#ramblin but not a gamblin man#they both look freaking amazing for their age but fujiki’s youthfulness is just bananas#takuya looks AMAZING in the sense that he looks like he’s NEVER aged fr#for me..this kind of means that some pictures from when he’s 20 or something…#actually look like he’s around 30/40-something 😭😂
