NaNoWriMo Day 14: Update!

I managed to pull off 2565 words before midnight even though I procrastinated all day due to something not feeling right. I did however write more and promptly delete it and didn't like it.

After midnight however...

Day 15:

I wrote 4435 more words and was going at a whopping 38 wpm. But sadly, my eyes are tired and I need to get some sleep since it is 4:24 am here. 🥱 time to hit the sheets.

Teaser

It’s from a WIP called “Silver Pieces”, a fic with a Shining Nikki Reflection format, but the length…er…well, we’ll see. Also for a baby version of Nanowrimo. This is is the Rings of Power version, except it’s a version that is a bit more “canon adherent”.

“Are you thinking of him?” Celebrian asks as the malachite ring dances between her fingers.

Celebrimbor sighs. “I suppose it can’t be helped. We’ve done an awful lot of things together. Wonderful things. He truly was a gift…”

Celebrian laughs. “You speak as if he’s dead! You really do miss him.”

“I do indeed. Terribly, in fact. I just have to remind myself that he’ll be back some day to ‘collect’ me when everything is ready. Whatever that is.”

“Collect you?” Celebrian asks, a silver frown on her golden face. “Like a doll?” 

“Hah! Or jewelry.”

NaNoWriMo Completed!!!

I finished NaNoWriMo and completed the 50,000 words!

That was a lot of caffeine. O_O

I am still not done with this arc!!! It is getting closer!

I have few more acts to finish for Mach and then it is back to outlining. And of course editing, there is always editing. X_X

welcome to "alex tries to do nanowrimo" and project nightingale!

i will be writing a good omens multi-chapter fic that is intended as a sequel to dead nightingales still sing. it will focus on their recovery after stopping yet another apocalypse and finally being freed from heaven and hell's influence.

they're both alive, both back on earth and in each other's arms, ready to move on and become an us - but it is never quite that simple, is it?

if people are interested, i'll share word count updates, milestones, plot teasers, snippets, and who knows what else! mostly i just really want to write this fic and challenge myself.

NaNoWriMo is officially over! I hit 50K before Thanksgiving in a fit of unprecedented productivity (and severely dropped off after that), but I ended the month at just shy of 60K total. What is more important to me than total word count is the fact that I accomplished the following:

Wrote and posted the final two chapters of ain't nobody hurt you like i hurt you, officially completing the story

Wrote and posted an entire 25K+ word fic I hadn't even originally planned to write last month

Wrote and posted three new chapters of i got a bad desire (baby i'm on fire) after not updating for four months

I'm hoping December is kind to me and I can complete my initial (lofty) NaNo goal of wrapping up all my existing WIPs (aside from bad desire). I've got so many ideas floating around in the to-write pile that they should carry me straight through 2024 'til the HOTD season 2 premiere.

(I'm writing this tonight specifically so I can laugh at myself when the 75 second teaser trailer we get tomorrow completely derails my entire plan).

Check-in for October 24, 2023

I'm planning on doing regular check-ins that peeps can read or skip as much as they please. If you want to see behind the scenes of my projects or get to know me a bit better, feel free to peek below the cut! If not, just look at this color palette I made for my web dev class and admire it:

I know green and pink are my favorite colors, so I may be just a tad biased, but look!!! Look at how pretty it is!!!

I plan to use the palette for a website that is basically a guided tour of a fictional town that's populated by bug people, and while the colors used in the initial character sketches are still my preference, I don't think they look too bad in this proof of concept image! They definitely need some tweaking, and some details in the art itself need correcting, but all around it's not too shabby :>

I also made the logo for the website which, while uninspired, doesn't look that bad. I'm not in a logo design course, so I can't be too upset about that. I made two versions--- a light and dark one--- so that I could have it appear on most colors of background.

Also, I've printed off tons of art and stuck it on my walls over the past few days to inspire me. The art wall has been very successful in beautifying my space, but I've been a bit too worn out to draw much other than the start of a project where I draw individual generations of pokemon by memory. Venusaur looks exactly like I remembered it, but also nothing like that at all. Charizard's line only looks halfway decent by virtue of Twig existing.

I must say, though, that I am charmed by these drawings' doofy lil grins. Just look at Bulbasaur. He is raring to go! Charmander is ready to shake your hand! Look at these lads!!

I've been trying to learn Clip Studio Paint by drawing a new The Present is a Gift comic in it, but I cannot begin to explain to you all how intimidating of a program it is for me. I'm a Procreate gal, y'all. I have a conniption whenever I look at the Photoshop interface. When I look at this:

I am desperate for the cozy white space of this:

I spent over an hour struggling to draw a simple piece for Instagram, admittedly while desperately trying to get OBS to not give out on me while I recorded my screen, but I think that I'm slowly learning how to not faint whenever the Paint window boots up.

Anyhoo--- enjoy the WIP teaser for the upcoming comic featuring a chat between Dusknoir (piloting a KO'd Twig) and Darkrai amidst a cave-in. If I am found dead, know that said comic worked alongside Clip Studio Paint to kill me.

As an update for The Present is a Gift in terms of the fanfic, I recently broke 6,000 words for the first draft. I haven't been writing too regularly--- when I do, it's usually to just sit down for 30 minutes max to try and get a little bit of a head start on NaNoWriMo coming up--- but whenever I do, the words come in batches of 400-700+ at a time. My dudes, I used to take a week to reach the lower end of that amount. I've been beating perfectionism back with a stick while sobbing "Quantity begets quality! Quantity begets quality!", but since I've set myself a challenge to write as many garbage words as possible without editing them until the first draft is done, I've been writing--- and enjoying the process of writing--- more than I have in my entire life.

I've been trying to win NaNoWriMo, a challenge where you write 50k words in November, for the last 7 years. I resigned myself to being a NaNo rebel and trying to write just 15k words next month. But if I keep cranking out 1,500 words in under two writing sprints per day--- without properly trying to eliminate distractions--- I think I could actually win for once??? I didn't think Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fanfiction would be what gave me a fighting chance at winning NaNoWriMo, but here I am. PMD brainrot truly is a miraculous thing, but I'll have to see exactly miraculous it is on the 1st of November.

So... yep! I probably should have figured out a way to sign off on check-in posts before deciding to publish this. Oops. Welp. Um. Thanks for reading?

Written for day 6 of @whumptober (and yes, at this point @nanowrimo), Made to Watch

Since I didn't manage to get all 31 days done in October, I figured I'd use NaNoWriMo as an excuse to keep on this project! So this puts me at 1,071/50,000 because some of it was written in October. 👍

I also made a banner for what I've coined WhumptWhober, which I've added to the series on my AO3, and wanted to show off here. See top of the post! It doesn't have 100% of the planned stories represented, but it does give a little bit of a teaser about what's yet to come.

did you see the teaser image that ConcernedApe uploaded with a list of new things to expect in the upcoming update?? we're going to get 8-player compatibility, new festivals, AND a new farm!!! amongst other things!!!!!

I'm so scared. I really am T-T Stardew Valley sucks the soul right out of me and I do *nothing* else. I cannot have this update drop in November XD I've committed my soul to a Double NaNoWriMo goal and will not have TIME to spare lol

but also I imagine everyone's excited about it, and if it drops before December then I'll just have to put on my Big Captain Pants™ and just wait.

I play it pretty heavily modded anyway, so the updates will need some time to trickle through. Currently I play with SDVE and Ridgeville, plus a couple quality of life (and diminishes of anxiety) stuff since those two addons have SO MUCH added.

I love all of it \o/ (I even have an addon that puts Zoro in the game XD ) I think I have a despicable # of hours... Okay, 2,100 is not THAT much... erm... *looks at other hour counts on Steam* OkayMaybeIt'sKindOfHigh.

I'm really excited for the new festivals and farm option. I hope we get a new NPC or two and maybe a few more base-game marriage options. -^_^-

Nanowrimo 2023 Project Announcement: The Girl in the Freezer

Synopsis/Teaser:

The body of Gloria Hopkins is found late one hot, summer night in her garage freezer, cut into pieces to fit inside. The gruesome murder leaves her fiancé, Matthew Roberts reeling with grief, confusion, and loss.

However, when Gloria pieces herself back together and escapes the morgue where her body is being housed, she seeks to return to the life she lost, but finds that it has no place for her. Alone, she must find the cause of her mysterious death and ensure that it never happens to another woman again. In her search for answers, however, she may find that her beloved fiancé isn't who she thinks he is, and neither is she.

Chaos Theory Act 74

Seiya finally has a chance to talk to Usagi and try to apologize. Some rough scenes to write.

Shiori confronts Usagi and continues to try to build a wedge between Seiya and Usagi. Is she successful?

Kinmoku was anything but a relaxing break from the craziness of Tokyo for these two!

This act features the revised version from the Sailor Moon Rare Pair story from March, "Is This the End?"

Editing the next chapter and the villain shorts for SM Villains week. Villains week will have some major reveals for this arc and the next two!!

I'm also outlining new chapters for NaNoWriMo in November. Completed Acts 78 and 79. Yup, there is still a lot of to go with this arc. Thanks for sticking around for this wild ride!
