Hey guys! This is my collab with the awesome @nspwriteups - modern, corporate AU! KunxVT
Sudden Sparks✨✨
It was just another day at the Chola corp. household.
They were a successful family run MNC with interests in a wide range of sectors like agriculture, industries, hospitality etc
Kriti's dad Sundar, the CEO, was feeling his age of late and really looked forward to that retirement mansion in the Seychelles-and she agrees. Her mom Vani was the perfect chaebol wife, keeping up social connections and coordinating the multiple companies.
Kriti and her dad’s best friend Anirudh – the chief legal advisor- have been running the show for the last few years.
She was truly appa’s pride, surpassing him in all aspects. It grieved him greatly that his great-grandfather, the founder, had willed the ownership only to sons in order of age.
Her hothead big bro Aditya made their dad age rapidly, as he was a mess through his teens and 20s- oscillating between therapy and overdrinking. His stubbornly insisted on marrying a regular girl Nandini- who oddly resembled his own ex. Huh! Like father like son
Girls like that just won’t fit in our circle, they all thought. Kriti and her great aunt Seema all disapproved and tried to bribe her away. But the young couple stood firm even through separation. Sundar gently explained his doubts to his son, who cockily returned with a DNA test proving his concern false.
Aditya became the chief of mergers and acquisitions, knowing a good takeover when he sees one. Nandini proved to be just as capable as herself (although she’d never say it aloud), smartly planning the legal aspects of her husband’s activities. Nothing gave the couple more joy than sleuthing and negotiating hard bargains, even with the most hostile businesspeople.
However, it is her darling boy Arun who is the all time favourite. Everyone from the janitor to the executive board loves him.
He started off as a cute intern, now he’s their PR face. Journalists flock to just see him smile. He’s been seeing Vinita, the junior at R&D in an office romance that’s the company’s worst kept secret. She rolled her eyes at her fastidious little brother. He was first very stiff with Vinita, the niece of their South zone president, because everyone wanted to get the two heirs together. He slowly fell for her, but tried very hard to hide it – much to kriti’s amusement. The longer than necessary waiting by the coffee machine, the abnormally frequent dropping of papers ( only for the other to come running for ‘help’) fooled no one, she chucked.
She laid back in the plush orange recliner in her living room. Her apartment was well decorated although she lived alone. Her brother and Anni lived in the floor above with their daughter, Kriti jr. Yes Kriti’s ego was greatly flattered by her namesake niece and she became nicer to her sister in law due to it.
Her brother lived in a cottage next door, with a large courtyard and her parents lived in a mansion next door to their company HQ
They had their usual Friday night entertainments. All except Kriti. She’d have occasional movie nights with Vinita and her other mates, poojas with seema paati and family birthday dinners.
She was happy to be the hustler for her family. She loved being swept by complex problems and solving them. She took pride in being their ‘brains’, not once regretting her cold demeanor or workaholic attitude.
Lately though, seeing her brothers' relationships left a pang in her stomach. Cousin Sandeep too was seeing Pooja, their coordinator for offshore branches.
Kriti blankly stared at the ceiling she’d seen a million times before. Smooth peach walls, a bronze ceiling fan and wall moulding on all sides. Her laptop glared, asking her to get back to work before the Monday noon deadline. Uncle Anirudh won’t like me slacking, she sighed and sat up. The IT girl of Chola corp can’t disappoint!
She began reading through the document sent by the budget team, noting where to edit or add comments. It was pretty linear, except this time some reps of their rival was out scouting start ups and releasing bad predictions for Chola’s next quarterly.
Enthusiastic footsteps and tinkling of metal made kriti exhale and go “gosh! Again?’.
Friday nights usually meant the same for her, her older brother and nandini would usual drop off her niece as they went off on their mandatory dates. There’s no way those 2 randy creatures have been together for 2 decades now, she groaned.
Kriti was soft, everyone knew most of her
evenings were spent working and she had a huge weakness for her niece.
She would often play sitter for Kriti jr. and Timmy (Arun and vinita's dog). She was just grateful Arun didn't make her babysit Airavat, the rescue elephant he adopted!
This time though, work was getting tight. She had to sort out Chola corp 's finances while also figuring who was spreading bad predictions for their stock.
Her train of thoughts was disrupted by the doorbell ringing. She knew who the visitors were and put on the best fake smile she could when she opened the door to see her brother and sister in law with a five year old girl in Nandini's arms. "I was hoping you forgot about your Friday routine" She said in mock annoyance. "Well actually I did ask my best friend to babysit Kriti jr here since I know how much of a busybody you are" Adithya told her, pinching his daughter's cheek as he spoke while Kriti frowned. A best friend of Adithya's that she hasn't met yet? Now that's odd. "We asked him to come here so you can have an extra hand to take care of her" Nandini joined in, kissing her daughter's forehead and handing her over to Kriti who was still wondering about this mysterious "friend" who is apparently a familiar face to everyone but one she hasn't heard about at all.
"He can be trusted Kriti. Why else would I entrust the safety of my beloved sister and daughter to him?" Adithya said after seeing a look of uncertainty on Kriti's face.
After Adithya and Nandini left them, Kriti turned to her niece sitting on the couch, "So my dear sugarplum, what will we do now?" Kriti jr ran to the showcase and took out board game from the drawer. They played the game for a while, watched Tom and Jerry on the tv. Kriti looked over at the clock. It's been half an hour since she started babysitting. Where was this so called trusted friend who was supposed to give them company? She contemplated on calling up Adithya and give him a piece of her mind but then she didn't wanted to interrupt theie date night. "Best friend…Trusted indeed" She muttered "He's going to ghost me for sure"
"Ugh! Why can't I stick to one decision? Now I'll have to host a stranger" she inwardly groaned
Kriti jr looked up at her aunt "Why are you angry Aunty?" She squeaked
"How do you know I am angry?" Kriti enquired
"Because Amma says you murmur when you are upset. So I know you are angry" the little girl said as a matter of fact. Kriti laughed, how well Nandini knows her.
"I am not angry Kanne, I'm just irritated" Kriti sighed, glancing at the clock again. He looked at her niece again when she felt a tug on her kurti. "I am hungry" Kriti jr said with puppy eyes.
"Okay, let's go have dinner" Both girls made their way to the kitchen and was deciding whether to make dinner or order out when the doorbell rang again. "Yay, Kamsa Mama is here!" Saying this Kriti jr sped out of the kitchen, leaving behind a perplexed Kriti behind.
Kamsa who?
The glee in the child's eyes made her irrationally jealous
She heard her niece calling out "It's open, Mama. Come, come" and went to investigate, stopping midway to see a young man twirling her niece, laughing with her. The guy was tall, looked the same age as her and was casually dressed in denim jeans and sweatshirt. She only had a few seconds to admire his curly hair and sparkling eyes before those same eyes met with hers. He set down Kriti jr, looking at her with curiosity and suddenly Kriti felt consious of how she was looking - Not expecting him to show up, she was dressed in an old kurti with three-fourth leggings and her hair in a bun, with a few strands already escaping here and there. My God! What a first impression I am giving this guy. She thought. But then again, why am I stressing on how I look? Not like he's here to flirt with me.
The newly arrived person, walked over to her and extended his hand, still smiling wholeheartedly "So you must be this little mischief queen's godmother. Adi and Nandu can't stop talking about you" He said "Hi, I'm Vaishakh "
"Hi, I'm Kriti"
"Do you know the word Kriti means creation, a work of art?" He asked suddenly
"Yes" Kriti replied, wondering where this was going
"Art is beauty. So I don't think I have to tell you how beautiful you are, Miss Kriti" He said with a grin .
Kriti is no stranger to compliments but she would be lying if she said that pickup line wasn't good. Either he was buttering her up for coming in late or he was a natural flirt.
"Thank you" She said, not letting him give the impression that he had won her over "And if I'm not wrong, people with the name Vaishakh has a good and nice disposition"
He grinned wider "So you like giving out compliments as well. Good for you. We are going to get along just fine" He winked at her and walked towards the kitchen, with a gleeful Kriti jr following him.
Kriti let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in "This is going to be a long night" She wondered as she shut the door.

I remember reading a post about Kalki's Nandini - Kundavai comparison.
It said that Kundavai is a person who would stop a guy from jumping into a well, educate him, and lead him towards the right path. Whereas Nandini would tell the guy, that the well led to heaven, and would convince him to jump into it wholeheartedly and with atmost pleasure.
Or something much like that.
And while i was watching PS II I came across a VERY similar comparison.
In part one, Kundavai asks Vanthiyathevan for a favour, and he admits that he could easily give away his life for her, and would do anything she asked him to.
Kundhavai : Unmai aagava?
In part two, Nandini, after seducing Parthibendra, asks for a favour, in return to which he responds that he'd give away his entire Kingdom if she asked him to do so.
Nandini : Unmai aagava?
THEY BOTH HAD THE SAME RESPONSE, IN THE MOST OPPOSITE TONES!
Kundhavai mocks Vallavarayan when she says this. But Nandini. Miss ma'am pretends to be absolutely flattered by it, and is rather serious.

♤The Warrior And The King♤
The temple was filled with sounds of chanting and music as the tinkling of footsteps got louder. Just as the Warrior finished the pooja, the steps came to a stop. “Vanathi, what brings you here?” it was early in the morning so Athreya was suspicious on why Kundhavai’s friend was here. “Akka, I have been told to inform you that you have been summoned to the court room in Thanjai today evening.” She stopped in her movements from applying kunkumam , she can’t leave Nandini to go to Thanjai. She took a deep breath, “Do you know why I have been summoned?” she asked as she resumed her tasks, she can just take Nandini with her.
“I am not sure akka, I think it’s about Nandini and the Elder Prince.” Letting out a sigh of resignation she nodded in acceptance. She knew that something was going to happen.
○Thanjai Palace 16 years ago, Aditha Karikalan’s birth.
Loud screams filled the usually silence filled palace. The flames danced as the rain felt endless. The blood red moon made the King’s heart thump, not knowing if this was a good sign. The shadows creeped around adding to the King’s anxiousness. The screams got louder until they stopped, the few moments of silence felt like a millennia of torture to the King’s heart, until cries of a small creature filled the air. The shadows that creeped disappeared in the King’s perspective as a midwife approached him smiling until her face split.
“A Prince has risen.” She answered the unspoken question. “And both the mother and child are healthy.” Sundara Chola could finally breathe. Maybe the blood moon was an auspicious sign afterall.
As he rushed inside to his wife, his mind went through names for the prince, until it stopped on a thought, “let the queen name him.” He thought. The flame flickered shining on the Queen’s already glowing face, her tired face filled with a beautiful smile. In her arms she held a bundle of cries. His beautiful son.
Names, politics, the throne and every other thought left his mind as he held his wife feeling blessed. He couldn’t ask for more.
The palace was unusually noisy as servants ran around, decorating the place with marigolds. The news of the birth of a Prince spread fast. The whole kingdom was engaged in rituals, prayers and hopes for a righteous and just prince, a brave warrior and a great King.
At the same time in an other part of the empire a 4 year old was looking for her lost mother. Her golden eyes terrified and teary. All she knew was that a man took her mother away. This was normal but it was the first time she didn’t return for a whole day. She probably was at the place with drunk men and loud shouting and the women with no clothes. Poor them she was glad she and her mother could got clothes from the men that took her away.
As she entered the brothel, some were startled at the entry of a child, some who knew her mother didn’t react much. She moved along a well known path where she knew her mother would be, normally crying or naked but sometimes she had a lot of money. As she entered the familiar room she saw her mother lying down, she was probably tired, she climbed up the bed to wake her.
“Amma, wake up I am hungry.” The 4year old didn’t notice the blood. She didn’t notice the rigid muscles or the cold temperature. She didn’t notice the lack of breathing for a long time. She held on to her delusion for some more time until she burst out crying. She might be young but not young enough or naïve enough to know what to do next. She took the money bag and the her mother’s mangalsutra for her memory, it wasn’t gold afterall.
If she doesn’t leave one day she would also die a death like her mother, she knows because her mother told her. She knows she has to go far away or the men will take her too, afterall they don’t care about age.
The child ran through the forest with her meager belongings in cloth bag. She knew this had to happen, her dreams always came true. She also dreamt about a warrior whom she will save, she hopes that comes true it would mean that the men were not able to take her.
She moved towards what looked like light, she could her chanting and bells. Was that heaven? Did she die on the way? She couldn’t understand before she fell to the ground, unconscious.
After a grand feast to celebrate the birth of a prince, the palace was filled with laughter and cries of a child. The new parents were content before they were interrupted by a servant. “ Your Highness, the Priest wants to meet you, as soon as convenient.” He panted.
With the same happy smile, feeling as if he can take over the world the King replied “Why? Is everything alright?” the servant was worried on what it meant for the royal family and the empire “A prophecy has been spoken.” His heart dropped.
Golden eyes opened, surrounded by chanting and the smell of jasmine incense. As she sat up, she saw a glorious statue of Shiva being bathed in milk, ghee and flowers. “You are awake child, are you well?” asked a aged woman. “Yes thaiye, I am but where am I?” The woman hummed not answering her and checked her body for wounds. “You, my dear are in Shivan Kovil at the border of Kadambur.”
Before she could speak, her stomach grumbled “Thaiye, may I have something to eat?” the woman did not speak but instead left and soon came back with a plate of food. She ate with vigour of a wild animal. The plate was clean very fast “Child, I will not ask how you hot hurt but rest assured you don’t have to go back there. My name is maithili, what is yours?” The child looked sad and answered “I do not have a name thaiye. Can u name me?” The woman pitied the poor child and then thought “How about Athreya?”
A prince is born, a warrior has risen and a prophecy has been made.
Note: Thaiye means mother. Athreya was named by her Thaiye and not her Amma. Athreya name is actually a male name but I like the meaning very much so
Athreya - Name Of A Sage; Clever; Receptacle Of Glory.
Her story is much more tragic than you would have imagined, tbh it was 3am motivation I actually had a plan of making her a lost princess but it's overused. @whippersnappersbookworm @sambaridli @thelekhikawrites @nspwriteups

Dani have you watched ponniyin selvan? Because I watched the first part yesterday and I'm about to watch the second one today (will share my thoughts about it if you wanna hear them) but honestly I loved the movie so much!!! I loved all the actors, i haven't read the book so I can't comment on the casting, but I really liked the actors and the way they were portrayed. I really liked Aishwarya as nandini, it's such a different role for her, but she looked so beautiful and the way she uses her beauty as a weapon and i really liked kundavai as well, it's really nice to see cunning female characters. And all of them were beautiful, like the women are simply divine!!!
And about the male characters i liked seeing prakash Raj in such a regal role and Vikram as the tortured hero Adithya karikalan and i really want to know more about him and nandini. Also arunmozhi varman. That's it, that's the post. I loved him?!!?! Did not expect to because he just appeared halfway through the movie but I loved him and jayam Ravi is literally perfect. Also i really liked vandiyadevan, he was so... Funny? Witty? just really amazing character and his and kundavai's chemistry???? Chef's kiss.
This is just the surface if i start talking about my favorite scenes or the bgm or anything else, i will lose it. But... One of my favorite scenes was the scene when nandini and kundavai meet, like their expressions, the passive aggressiveness, the bgm just...ugh.
So yeah, thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Also i wanted to ask,,, have you read the books, i know that the books are always worth reading and better than the movie but i just want a comparative analysis on why you prefer the books or the movies, if you have read the books that is.
Hello,
Yes, I have watched the movie. I haven't watched the second one yet. I must do it when I get back to SL.
I have indeed read the books. I did tamil literature in school so I had to study all the tamil epics including Ponniyan Selvan - which is actually my favorite tamil book ever. When I found out mani ratnam was adapting it into a movie I fucking flipped - because it's mani ratnam?? AND A R RAHAMAN?
I was kinda worried because we know sometimes they butcher the adaptation but the movie was SO SO good. I really really liked it. My favorite character was also Ponniyan Selvan or Arulmozhi Varman. He's been my favorite since the books. I also love Kundhavai because she is so fucking smart. One of my favorite thing about this book/story is how women are running the show. It's actually a common theme with all tamil epics - whether it's Kannaki in Silapathikaram or Paanjali in Maha Bharatam (my second fave story). WE REALLY MORE OF THESE MOVIES IN TAMIL BECAUSE OF HOW WOMEN ARE POTRAYED IN THEM AS OPPOSED TO HOW THEY ARE OBJECTIFIED AND SEXUALISED IN MODERN TAMIL MOVIES.
I'm so so excited for the second one and I would love to hear your thoughts.
AND THE BGM BRO-

Good morning! 🌝
I went to watch Ponniyin Selvan 2 yesterday and it was fantastic. I haven't watched Ponniyin Selvan 1 yet 🙃 so i am looking forward to watch it as well.
The screen play, characters, music were amazing. The beautiful landscape of the southern part of India will mesmerize you. The actors did an amazing job. 👏 Especially Vikram ( he played Aditya Karikalan) and Aishwarya Rai ( she played Nandini).
I only have one problem with it, that is, it felt too short. I wanted more!!!
I looked up the characters before going to the theater.
Characters-
Vallavaraiyan Vandiyathevan -
Main character; we are following the story from his perspective.
Nandhini -
Main antagonist of the story. She is interesting. A beauty with brains 😉
Azhwarkadiyan Nambi ( alias Thirumalaiappan ) -
He is a spy and Vallavaraiyan Vandiyathevan 's friend.
Kundhavai -
The Chola princess, King Sundara Chola's daughter.
Arulmozhivarman/ Ponniyin Selvan -
Youngest son of Sundara Chola. He is the titular protagonist.
Aditya Karikalan -
Eldest son of Sundara Chola.
Vaanathi -
Princess of Kodumbalur.
This is what i understood about the characters after watching Ponniyin Selvan 2. I have never read the book but i want to. Sorry for any mistakes 😔.
Please watch it in the theater. Please!!! ♥️🌺
You guys are super excited about it so I decided to look it up and see if I could make it before or after work.
But.
My theater doesn't have it listed at all????
I don't know what I expected really. I live in Louisiana. A parish, in particular, that doesn't have many good things.
Completely uncultured.
But going through the list of movies... I want to watch that new Dungeons and Dragons movie. 👀 There's a super cute druid, Doric. Look at her adorable wittle horns. 🥰 I'm in love, okay? I want to see this movie.
But, yeah, I'm upset. I don't think this disappointment is good for my poor heart. Y'all were so excited about it and got me excited about it and now I can't watch it. 😣
Now Imma go to work all disappointed.
Disappointed... And... Crushing on a cute druid. 🤭
Thanks for sharing cool stuff with me though! I like when my guys get all excited over stuff they love. 😙

She'd have been extremely intimidating like @whippersnappersbookworm said, once she became a duo with kundhavai (smart and daring) , with even Vanathi (sweet friend+ sassy friend).
But imagine she and nandini realised they were cousins. They'd be badass together and maybe poo would've prevailed upon her (Nandini was desperate to find her birth family).
I'm, for one, happier she's with sendhan as it eases her from the restlessness/insecurity she had while pining for amv
“But what an absolutely intuitive explanation!” Kundhavai touched Vanathi’s forehead in a sweeping motion and cracked her fingers in the age old gesture of destroying the evil eye. “Ah, my dearest darling; how intelligent of you—to have divined the one detail that evaded us all!”
Poonguzhali, glaring at what was to her a distasteful byplay, turned to her aunt and communicated in a flurry of gestures. “Apparently, it was the mountain within the sirpa mandapam,” she conceded with ill grace. “And if I had seen this so-called chamber, I’d have known of it too …” she muttered.
Poonguzhali is quite likeable character on her own. She is intelligent, adventurous, sassy, free-spirited, daring and fearless. I love her interactions in books with Vandhiyathevan, Senthan Amudhan and other characters. But whenever Arun Mozhi or/and Vanathi are involved, she turns into bundle of jealousy, bitterness and insecurity.
And that's why I was happy she didn't end up with Arul Mozhi in the books unlike other fans. I believe love should bring out best in you. If your love makes you worst person, then you are better off without it. Poonguzhali deserved better than Arul Mozhi could offer her and she got it in Senthan Amudhan who loved her wholeheartedly.

Aditha Karikalan vs Pazhuvettarayar -
Who's the better option for Nandini? by yours truly
1) PP married and owned up to their union publicly; he gave her titles, prestige and the respectability of marriage. 💲💵💰🏧
-AK couldn't because he was too young to overrule his family. However, he definitely would've thrown a fit to marry her had the beheading not happened.
2)Marrying a vassal king comes with several benefits (as discussed with @celestesinsight @thereader-radhika @ambidextrousarcher)
As the junior wife of the treasurer, she had tons of privilege and not much responsibility except showing up to events. Close enough to the throne (to make moves) but away enough to not deal directly.
- Nandini's already been burned by flying too close to the sun. AK's status as crown prince made the brides-shortlist very strict.
3) PP, till the flood, trusts her word easily. Even when confronted with doubts he thinks the best of her.
-AK is jealous af and accuses her of seducing all his friends. This is a result of his own insecurity- Had he married her, he wouldn't have been toxic and possibly been pretty decent as per 10th century standards.
4) Because we have bare minimum expectations, PP respects Nandini's wishes and doesn't force himself on her (she successfully gives excuses/alva always). AK is depicted as a thorough gentleman and would respect her wishes- but won't wait 3 years. Then again, Nandini won't give excuses if she were married to him😂
5) Nandini is forced into kundhavai's company sometimes due to her being PP's wife. As AK's wife she'd constantly be in her presence 🌚
6) Creeps like Parthi and Kandhanmaran presume they have a chance with her because she's married to an old man (who is either not her choice or can't *ehm*👀 satisfy her). As AK's wife they wouldn't dare flirt with her (no matter how tempting she may be) - lest they lose a limb or an eye.

Trinity - The Men of Ponniyin Selvan
Vanthiyathevan:
He is funny, he is charismatic, he is a soft soul who fights for his loved ones, he is a warrior who make sure to defeat enemies so that his prince win. He is a wandarer bt with an aim, he wanders for love, he wanders for passion, he wanders for a reson to live, he wanders to achieve his Princes goal.
Just like his name he is attractive, restless, determined and much more.
To Aditha Karikalan he is the best friend he ever known, he is the best warrior he had ever fought along in the war.
To ArunMozhi he is teh best brother-in-law he could ever find, best humanitarian he had seen, and a best man.
To Kundhavai he is her lover, her husband, her heart.
Aditha Karikalan
The crown prince of Choa desam, the ferocious lion tiger who preyed on his enemies, he roared like a lion on the battlefield making his enemies run away. The young tiger whose life was filled with many wounds and scars but yet fought as a king.
Would he be different if his white flower chose him? Would he still be restless if his love had not been abolished from the land? Would he still be dead if his love touched his heart with her hands instead of a sword?
The death that caused a turn in history, the death that made Ponniyin Selvan into 'Raja Raja Chozhan'
ArunMozhi Varma aka Ponniyin Selvan aka Raja Raja Chozhan
The 'Kutti Puli' of Chozha desam, the most generous, righteous of them all. He is the favorite person of Cholzha Desam. The lovely younger brother of Princess Kundhavai and Aditha. The prince who never meant to be a king, the king who rose to achieve the greatest, the king who soared through the sea to capture the kingdoms, the king who roared enough to be heard all through.
He is kind, he is charming, he is lovable, he is the Prince, and at last, he is the King. What more can you ask in a person and one that captured the heart of the Kadambur princess and held her hand in marriage.
With him started the golden era of the Chola kingdom.
