So in addition to Linda Hamilton joining the cast for Season 5 it looks like we've got some other new faces! In the Behind the Scenes teaser trailer and the Season 5 Tudum article that was recently published we got some new information about who will be joining the cast this season!

First up, we've got Nell Fisher who has been cast to play an older Holly Wheeler! And based on the trailer it looks like Vecna might be targeting her this season. In it we've got footage of Holly in her bedroom with the lights flickering on and off. You can see that the wallpaper matches the previous BTS pic we got in March of an Alf poster and a copy of Peter Pan and Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock and some other books in a holder. We now know that this is from Holly’s desk in her bedroom.

This feels so validating because I called it back in March that the photo was of Holly's bedroom! A lot of people thought it was Erica's but to me the vibe didn't match. I love Holly's taste in books too! I'm a big Nancy Drew fan and Secret of the Old Clock is one of my favourites! Seeing it is a nice callback to Season 3 when the newspaper guys kept mocking Nancy by calling her Nancy Drew and suggests that the sisters might be more alike than we thought.

In this new clip, we can see Holly’s Lite-Brite, a music stand, and shelves full of board games and stuffed animals. Which means Holly likely plays an instrument of some kind and I'm curious to find out what that is! Next we have a scene of her standing in the kitchen panicking and looking at something off camera while the lights flicker. This could be Vecna or a demogorgon coming through the wall or something could be happening to Karen. Either way this is going to be a rough season for Holly!

I had theorized after Season 4 came out that Holly might play a bigger role this season and I'm glad to see they're doing more with her character. I think this plot could be really interesting because she seems to notice things her parents and siblings don't. We know Holly saw the lights flicker in Season 1 and moved towards them when Will tried to communicate with her. And in Season 3 she noticed the trees moving in a weird way when she was on the farris wheel with her parents. Then in Season 4 we saw Holly was playing with her Lite-Brite in the living room while the Erica, Dustin, and Lucas discussed the mindflayer and watergate in the kitchen.

So we know she's observant and may have knowledge about what's really going on that she's not sharing. I feel like Mike, Nancy, and Karen are going to be so surprised to find out that she's known the whole time that weird stuff has been going, but I feel like Will and the others won't be surprised at all! Next up we've got Jake Connelly whose been cast as an unnamed friend of Erica’s. In the trailer we get footage of Priah Ferguson and Jake Connelly in costume at a barn.

Which makes me wonder if the G.I. Joe lunchbox and Transformers blanket we got photos of back in May belong to him? And if the 80’s Bedroom we got photos of with the computer, board games, stuffed animals, and ET game are from his room? That would make more sense than some of the other theories I've seen so far as the items seem too young to belong to any of the Party members, but too old to belong to Holly.

To be honest, I'm not sure why a new friend of Erica’s that we’ve never heard of is getting screen time when they could be giving Will a love interest or focusing on the characters they already have. I'm not sure why they expect us to care about a character we've never heard of when there are so many other characters who deserve screen time and love interests and to make new friends.

Speaking of love interestes where is Vickie in this trailer? We know she was filming at the hospital with Robin in either episode 1 or 2 and we know she's a part of the main cast so I feel like she should be here. The only thing I can think of is that whatever she's filmed so far is really spoilery so they can't show it to us yet.

Lastly we've got Alex Breaux whose been cast as an unnamed military character. In the trailer he’s seen in a black jacket holding a rifle with a scope on it and he's bathed in red light that's coming from somewhere else in the room. We previously got a BTS pic in February of a crew member in a room with similar lighting next to a lab coat so it's possible he’s at the lab here. To be honest, I'm not sure why they expect us to care about this character when all the military personnel we’ve seen in seasons 3 and 4 have been utterly stupid and ridiculous.

Like getting me to care about Erica's new friend and this guy is going to be a tough sell! Introducing Argyle as a character took a lot of screen time and dialogue away from Jonathan, Mike, and Will in Season 4 in what should have been their storyline and their time to shine. So I'm a bit concerned that these two new characters are going to do the same thing and take away more screen time from the existing cast of characters we already have.

Since we know there's going to be a large military presence in Hawkins this season I'm wondering if maybe this guy is going to be our heroes' inside man the way that Owens was in past seasons? I'm also not sure how old this actor is so it's also possible he could be a love interest for Karen or another character on the show. I'm still holding out hope that they're going to introduce a new love interest for Will this season and that he's going to get his happy ending! Cause the boy has been through it!

There’s so much new Nancy Drew content my head is going to explode! I thought I’d do a quick round up of cast/BTS news to complement the new extended trailer and Episode 3 description we were gifted with.

First up- Kennedy did an interview with a local station where she talks about the season, how much she loved the show and the fans, and what’s next:

“It feels like the greatest hits of the last couple of seasons. We’ve got an awesome season-long mystery that involves the entire town and…the origin of all of these townsfolk and different families and the Drew Crew of course…”

“Some really exciting stand-alone mysteries” and “we have my personal favorite - a lot of romance and tension and will they, won’t they, it’s all very juicy…”

Historical mystery involving the town and its people, stand-alone mysteries, and plenty of romance and tension - sounds like the ingredients for the perfect season! Yes, the “will they or won’t they” and “juicy” hint at the “other” love interests from the season description. We’re going to be served some pain alongside that pleasure - I’m still SO here for it all.

The whole interview is definitely worth watching, link HERE. My other favorite moments are when she talks about the “incredible” fan community, and how the writers are fighting to preserve the future of the entertainment industry.

Over on the bird app, we have some excellent tidbits from the cast, crew, and journalists. Riley revealed that Kennedy’s reaction to his jump scare in the new extended trailer was improv - Kennedy didn’t know (and she called him “brilliant” 🥰). Speaking of improv, Larry described the improv he and Alex did that added “Platanchors” to our lexicon (for which we are forever grateful).

Our favorite Nace-loving journalist Yana Grebenyuk saw the 401 screener and said about it that it was “soft”, “they yearn,” and it made her feel “emotional.” She also interviewed Kennedy, who she said spoke about Nace thoughtfully - we’ll have that interview right after the episode airs 😍.

In cast socials, Leah shared this fab ladies throwback pic, Maddison is enjoying a warm spell in Vancouver, Leah is KILLING IT with her Cannes fits (she’s there for Elemental), and Alex’s gf Hannah shared this gorgeous (if blurry) photo of her and Alex in the Scottish Highlands at a friend’s wedding. It may be the closest we get to Ace in a suit with all of his S4 trailer denim on denim looks.

Look for Chapter 16 of The Space Between this weekend with the (hopefully) exciting conclusion to my Season 4 speculative fic. I’m already excited by both the few tiny parallels (e.g. the historical townsfolk) and the huge differences (teeth symbols?) we’ve seen in the trailers and descriptions of S4.

mar the last episode was so good but I am WORRIED about the foreshadowing. A ghost possessing Ace who died protecting the woman he loved? With a catchphrase about never leaving his sweetheart? I feel like Ace is going to die/leave and it is freaking me out. You always have good theories so what do you think?

Hey! Sorry for the late response. I have a tendency to jump towards the worst case scenario so I had to talk myself off of a few ledges before I answered you. I fear that I, too, initially sensed some morbid foreshadowing from 3x03 bahahah.

Before I dive into any theories, I’ll share with you why I don’t think Ace is going to die/Alex is going to leave the show. None of my reasons are concrete canon evidence, more just general vibes, so take them how you will!

For one, Ace has a new plot that is focusing on his future and his character is being thoroughly fleshed out this season, as are his relationships (see: his romance with the main character). If the writers planned on disposing of Ace, I think they would be winding down his involvement with the overall plot. He would probably have a lighter story this season if he were dying/leaving as a way to prep the audience for a goodbye. Instead, they are roping him deeper into the drama, creating new drama specifically for him, and giving Ace’s character a fresh face in the process.

Secondly, unlike so many writers rooms, the writers for Nancy Drew are genuinely trying to create a story that viewers will enjoy. They know their audience and make it a point to have their thumb on the pulse of fandom. They realize what a beloved character Ace is and are well aware that his relationship with Nancy is the show’s biggest selling point. For that reason alone, I highly doubt the writers would sit down and say “you know what would be the worst decision we could possibly make but is something we should totally do just for shock value? KILL OFF ACE! We may lose 3/4 of our viewers but fuck it.”

That sentiment goes for every member of the Drew Crew, including George who has been “dying” for 3 seasons now. The writers know they need all 5 of their mains on screen for the show to remain successful.

Writing Logistics aside, the only way I can imagine Ace’s character being written off is if Alex Saxon decided to leave. He’s a very quiet dude so it’s hard to get an idea of where his head is at, but we haven’t seen anything from him, cast, or crew to suggest he’s parting ways with the show. In fact, recently he’s been more active on social media and more vocal about Nancy Drew than ever. With that and the rare BTS we see of him, he seems happy working on the show, just like everyone else. Obviously, there could be other reasons for his leaving (contracts, money, time, location, life in general, etc.), but 🤷🏼‍♀️ if the narrative doesn’t suggest Ace is going anywhere, I doubt Alex is.

All that being said, I do still think the love story of Laci’s Grandma and Joe Kelsey was either a subtle parallel to Nace in 2x12, some unsubtle foreshadowing for Nace’s future, or both. Either way, it served hard Nace vibes.

If we’re talking parallels, I think Joe and Grandma’s story was told to help Ace and Nancy connect some dots regarding their own relationship. Parallels they could draw to themselves include:

Joe and Grandma worked together // Ace and Nancy currently work together.

Joe took the fall for a murder he didn’t commit and was executed to protect Grandma // Nancy risked lives, recanted her testimony against a murderer, and soiled her reputation to protect Ace.

You can tell in ^ this ^ moment that Nancy relates to what Joe did because she did something similar for Ace. Nancy is already aware she has feelings for Ace, so making this connection is not exactly a revelation to her as much as it is affirmation that she’s in love with him and would do anything for him.

Ace, on the other hand, never fully understood exactly why Nancy did what she did for him in 2x12. He never realized her motives for saving him were partly out of romantic love. Hearing Grandma tell her and Joe’s story probably didn’t force him to put two and two together, but I don’t think it escaped Ace’s notice that Nancy did for him what Joe did for the woman he was in love with: sacrificed themself. You can see the realization play across Ace’s face after the truth is revealed and Joe’s ghost appears to them.

When Ace says “he knows now,” I don’t think he was only referring to Joe. I think it is finally occurring to him that Nancy’s love for him may just be exceptional.

Other parallels between 3x03 and 2x12 that are noteworthy:

Ace x Nancy x Grant Trio Adventure // Ace x Nancy x George Trio Adventure.

Ace dangling from a ledge // Nancy dangling from a ledge.

Intense Nace moment after Ace is saved // Heated Nace moment after Nancy is saved.

“The Holt Group is just a front - a part of something much larger.” // “I’m a part of something much bigger. You’ll never understand.”

Now, if we’re talking foreshadowing, what we’re all assuming is that, like Joe, Ace is going to sacrifice his life to save the woman he loves: Nancy. When, how, or why Ace would do this, we have no clue. Temperance, The Road Back, FHK, and Bertram Bobbsey are all viable threats to them right now, so it’s hard to pinpoint from which direction a sacrificial act of love may come into play. Because of the way Ace and Nancy are the two most involved in The Road Back plot, I’d say TRB is the greatest danger to Ace and Nace’s relationship. Really though, I have no idea how this would all play out.

What I do think is that, IF Ace follows in Joe’s footsteps, Ace’s death would be a fake-out, and/or we’ll be unsure of his fate between S3 & S4, similar to how we were unsure of Bellamy’s fate between S1 & S2 of The 100. IF Ace sacrifices himself for Nancy, I’m confident he won’t actually die.

I don’t have theories regarding any of this so much as vague ideas of possible scenarios. I could see:

Ace faking his death and going on the run.  @horseshoebae and I had a fun discussion with @mslizzieforbes on twitter (hi Riley!) about how Nancy may or may not go with him if this happens. Riley thinks she would. I think in S4 Nancy may just know where Ace is hiding and meet up with him in secret like Grandma did with Joe. Either way, the gist is the same. Here’s our twitter thread to get a better understanding:

Ace sacrifices his life for Nancy but Nancy resurrects him with WiW magic. Dani and I tossed this idea around on our second? third? fourth? spiral of Saturday. It’s pretty self explanatory. Dani also figured one or more of the tarot card prophecies could factor into this scenario, specifically the prophecy “one of you will be the others’ demise,” with Nancy being Ace’s. I think that’s what she figured, anyway. CORRECT ME IF I’VE MISREMEMBERED, DANI! Now, the only reason I’m considering resurrection an option at all is because at the end of 3x02, they made a point of showing us that Kegstand was brought back to life through Bess using a WiW spell. Clearly we were shown that for a reason, so maybe it will come into play if Ace dies and requires some resurrecting? Though this one seems more likely to happen with George.

These are the only “theories” I/we have so far, anon, and as fun as they are, I fear they are mostly unsubstantial! Presently, I can’t fully subscribe to them myself.

And actually, the more I think about it, the more 3x03 feels like a big ol’ followup to 2x12 than anything else. Even Joe and Grandma’s love story reads as a callback to Ace, Nancy, and the Paper Mill now. Which? Is kind of ideal.

What a day! I have so much I want to say about the Nancy Drew Season 4 trailer. It’s going to take me a bit since I’m at work but I plan to link every bit of it back to what we know about individual episodes and past BTS, as well as talk about all of the AMAZING things they packed into 30 seconds.

Nancy Drew Season 4 Trailer Part 1

There’s a lot to unpack in this 30 second whirlwind so I’m planning to do a series of posts. I will do my best to tie every scene back to BTS content, but everything is still speculation and unconfirmed. It’s going to get spoilery so bow out if you want to remain blissfully ignorant - which absolutely has its advantages: Riley’s a fan.

We start with Birdie and Jesse holding hands and calling Nancy for help from the woods! Kennedy confirmed they are a couple (the cutest!). I love that for them (and us).

Birdie (from the 2x13 Moonstone Island episode) is in Eps 3 and 12, so it’s one of those two. Geraldine Chiu (Jesse) posted from on-set during each of those episode’s filming, so she is in the same two episodes. Ep. 3 is shaping up to be epic (more in a later post), and 12 is set in spring (with a beach scene they had to film in the snow). If Birdie & Jessie’s relationship is established in Ep. 3 maybe this is 12, but we’ll have to wait and see!

Next we have Nancy with her trusty flashlight even when she’s dressed fancy - classic Nancy Drew!

What is she spying? ZOMBIES OF COURSE!

They’re in old timey clothes, and presumably they’re the corpses from the graves that were dug up (or they rose on their own!). The big season long mystery is dealing with the sins of the town’s past - just love the mix of humor and horror.

Our first glimpse of the crew! Now what episode is this? I think it’s Episode 1. Nick, Nancy, and Bess are dressed up - we saw BTS photos of Maddison with that purple dress in her trailer, and Tunji in the pink shirt, both from mid-July when they were most likely filming Ep. 1.

We also saw Maddison’s story during the filming of episode 1 heading into the creepy woods in a cart with Tunji, Alex, and a blond woman that we now know is Megan Munro. She’s only listed in episode 1 on IMDB. She’s credited as “Young Actress” so not clear what her part is - I think this could be her. As she’s not recurring I don’t think she’s the new police chief (I’d love a woman in that role though), or a serious love interest for Ace or Nick. She may be a short term LI for Ace or Nick, or maybe she’s an as yet uncredited actress. Still a mystery!

Ace’s hair is LONG - this is how he looked when he showed up to set. They trimmed it later - it’s noticeably shorter by Episode 3 (keeping in the tradition of Ace’s ever changing hair). Also he’s not dressed up, which makes sense as he wasn’t in that BTS photo, and Nancy’s probably keeping her distance. Still manifesting Ace in a suit in S4…

If you are wondering why George is absent, Leah didn’t arrive to set for the first part of filming of Episode 1 - she was still filming another project. So George must be working or studying or otherwise occupied.

Nancy Drew Season 4 Trailer Part 5

OK, I took a break from my insanely detailed and speculative look into the trailer, Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 here, but I’m back with more. I’ve been focused on the final full chapter of The Space Between - I’m still determined to get it out before the premiere (JUST 😅).

The next shot is this lovely one of Nancy encountering a crone in Icarus Hall with George looking at something else. Is this a ‘standalone mystery’ ghost, or is it tied to the Icarans we get next in the trailer? The ghost of a Hudson ancestor perhaps?

Now while we haven’t seen George’s full wardrobe look in any behind the scenes photos (although I think it’s the result of her Wheezie from Dragon Tales look), we DID see it in the anti-cyber bullying spot she was in along with Tunji, Maddison, and Riley.

I’ll get back to what this means for which episode this scene is from in a moment. But first, here’s why Kennedy is the ultimate scream queen:

So we have Kennedy facing the ghost in the same wardrobe as these two soon-to-be-classic Nace scenes.

Next we get to THE SPIDER (SKIP DOWN NOW IF YOU MUST). @NancyDrewGIFS on Twitter has gotten so much detail in these trailer scenes, you can actually see there are three people in the Historical Society scene - Nick on the left being trampled (hopefully not too badly), Bess in the middle, and someone else in white behind Nick:

The next scene has Maddison in the white top from the public service announcement:

Love the glimpse of Carson here too!

We actually got a glimpse of this white top before in BTS - it was hanging in the closet when Maddison posted from her trailer about starting Episode 7 filming.

It’s also from the same timeframe as the “team meeting” the cast had (out of costume) at the beginning of Episode 7 filming. There was also a shot of 2 stand-ins on the HS porch in the same blog post - they look like George and either Ace or Ryan’s stand-in. Could they be entering the scene of the giant spider’s path?

We also got a BTS photo of what looked like Game Night in Icarus Hall from the same setting as the Nancy and Ace shot in IH above.

The BTS pics and the filming of the promo spot timeframe point to all three of the scenes from the trailer being in Episode 7. So do we get the giant spider (I have zero ideas about this particular monster other than ugh), ghost encounter, Game Night, and Nancy and Ace suffering/hung over from a curse breaking gone wrong all in one episode?

I may be wrong and the scenes span over more than one episode, e.g. if Nancy and Ace get knocked out/die a little, it’s possible they don’t change clothes. But pacing wise I totally believe all of this could happen in one episode, esp. in S4 where they seem to be pulling out all the stops.

I’m good with it all, cannot wait to see it all unfold!!

Nancy Drew Season 4 Trailer Part 3

I’m breaking down the trailer frame by frame because I’m just that obsessed. Part 1 and Part 2 are up. I’m using behind the scenes content, Twitter posts from cast and crew, podcasts, and published articles to try to tie each scene to a potential episode. It’s the best info we have, but in the end it’s all just fun speculation and I could be totally wrong.

So there was this:

“You are not going to die tonight.” Whoa. Thanks to @nancydrewghost for posting an enhanced shot of this scene, it lets us see all the little details. Everyone’s first assumption was that Nancy is holding Ace. Who has an arrow in his chest! Archery camp jokes aside (Ace has great aim), it’s pretty clear here that this is not Ace, but Henry Zaga, who is a regular cast member in S4 and possibly Nancy’s new alternate love interest, and the son of Ryan’s newest enemy. Read here, here, and here for more about Henry and his potential character if this is news to you - we’ll talk more about him in a later blog as he appears again in the trailer.

If you remember, Kennedy shared these emoji clues back in late October:

We may have identified the arrow to the heart emoji inspo here - unfortunately it doesn’t refer to Ace and Nancy’s love for each other 💔. I am still stunned by the physical arrow in the heart - this is new territory for our little ghost show. We’ll discuss more when we get to Nancy WITH A CROSSBOW. Please let Ace be the one to teach her how you use it!!

Now what episode is this? We haven’t seen Nancy’s particular cable knit polo sweater before in any of the behind the scenes content. Looking through the BTS we have and the timelines of when they were shared, the episodes where we’ve seen little to none of Nancy’s wardrobe are 8, 9, 10. The exception is November 1 when the cast greeted fans while filming courtroom scenes - Kennedy wore a red sweater and checked blazer. The courtroom scene filming was postponed from earlier, so I’m thinking that was episode 9.

What we do have is this photo from Henry Zaga from Nov 5th ish:

His hair and facial hair look exactly like they do in the trailer scene, and I imagine he’d get muddy lying on the ground in the woods. So my best guess is the trailer scene is from Episode 10, but it could also have been the tail end of 9. Henry was back and filming the final episodes after this, so presumably Nancy doesn’t let him die. Nancy’s always ready to save her friends and love interests (poor Owen didn’t stand a chance though, RIP).

The next scene is back to the cemetery.

This seems to be a clear cut Episode 1 scene (I’ve left out the creepy ghost for the faint of heart). Nice to see us right back in the action from the end of Season 3 with no time jump (now time travel, we’ll get to that later).

Kennedy was dressed in classic Nancy Drew mode here on Day 3 of filming while cowering from a cicada (same, they are SO LOUD), and Kennedy’s stand-in was hanging out in the grave location for this shot.

The real mystery - will we get to see Kegstand in Season 4?

The Nancy Drew cast continues to impress - and even surprise us with some new S4 content!

This BTS video of Kennedy’s photo shoot from her stylist is giving me life:

Meanwhile Leah is looking fierce in red, while Maddison’s red mushroom filter hat is…endearing?

Speaking of Maddison, she shared a blurry photo from the final ND shooting day 😭. It’s a nice bookend to the first S4 cast photo - I just wish it was clearer!

Finally, it’s already been discussed of course, but Riley gave us a glimpse of a chaotic S4 scene in his stories this week as he did his last Nancy Drew ADR recording session.

People think that’s Nick (in green) and Ace (in white) in the background. I’m not convinced that’s Nick’s hand (looks more like Alex’s), but in any case what is it holding up? Could it be a charm against evil (maybe from Bess?), or even Ace’s barometer necklace from The Space Between (haha, no, but I can dream)? And then what the heck is going on with Nancy and what is she holding? There is some drama going down, I’m guessing with the sins of the town’s past.

Based on the scene and wardrobe, I believe this is from Episode 5, directed by Scott Wolf, where we’ll get a confrontation in the woods, and we’ve seen a previous glimpse of Nancy and George running in (I think) the university set. Everyone is expecting the Larry Teng directed episode 6 to be a big one, but episode 5 is shaping up to be pretty dramatic.

Speaking of Season 4, I am very close to publishing Chapter 13 of The Space Between, an epic Season 4 speculation fic. It’s a great time to catch up if you haven’t read through Chapter 12 yet - it has the whole crew trying to solve the mystery of the graves, Nace angst and of course curse breaking, sins of the past, and lots of shenanigans that probably wouldn’t pass the censors!

As Bess would say, Yay! Thanks to the ladies (and crew) of Nancy Drew, we have excellent BTS content this week, the penultimate week of filming (sniff).

Friday night we got the most beautiful photos of the best people from Kennedy with the caption “my women.”

The bond is real on the show and irl. Ladies of the Drew Crew forever ❤️.

Eagle eyes noticed someone sitting in a cast chair that looks suspiciously like Ace’s (note the lack of a name below “Drew Crew” because perhaps it’s just ‘Ace’?). Loving the fits, especially Nancy’s sweater vest (want) and Bess’s coat (and maybe Ace’s jacket?).

Speaking of fits, Kennedy put out a request for recommendations of what wardrobe pieces she should buy. Many excellent suggestions, but the clear winner was the blue plaid coat. It’s even McMum approved.

But wait, there’s more. Maddison and Leah gave us action at the Drew house set as they film the series finale, in the form of Leah scaring Maddison, a seemingly common pastime between takes. One thing everyone noticed was the presence of a new cast member in this video.

Readers of this blog have already known about Henry Zaga joining S4 for some time. The questions on everyone’s minds are what part does he play, and is he someone’s love interest for some part of the season.

There are theories of his character being the new cop, a relative of Bess, George’s new bf, or Nancy’s attempt to move on from Ace (that surely will fail). I’ve been wondering if he’s a professor - of Law (teaching George) or of folklore and the supernatural (what if he’s an expert aiding the Crew)? We know from earlier BTS there’s a university set.

Whatever Henry’s role, I’m excited to see him in the show. Can’t wait - speaking of which, still no premier date!?! While we wait, a recent article outlines new details on the Nexstar deal - they were actually paid $54M to buy the unprofitable network!

DP Nick Thomas, who’s been serving us beautiful set photos all throughout filming, shared perhaps his most intriguing ones yet. Two different vintage cars and a vintage gas pump - are we getting a flashback? A dreamscape? Back to the Future i.e. time travel? I am riveted by any and all of these possibilities. Could the recent high school prom location photo be related?

We saw more onset shenanigans from crew and cast this week - too many for me to post more than a sample. We saw a marina/boat location, HBPD (defunded!), and various stories taken outdoors. You can tell everyone’s letting loose as filming comes to an end (and are possibly loopy from the long hours).

Hello, Drewds! It’s been a while since Nancy Drew filming wrapped. Am I the only one who couldn’t have imagined being almost two full weeks into January and still not knowing when Season 4 of Nancy Drew was premiering? Me either.

In the meantime, some happenings:

The big headline is of course Kennedy McMann is starring in ABC’s massively popular ‘Good Doctor’ series’ spinoff The Good Lawyer as a young lawyer, Joni DeGroot, with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) - which Kennedy herself suffers from - opposite Felicity Huffman.

In the backdoor pilot airing March 13, we meet the “brilliant, funny and self-aware” young lawyer living with OCD, whose “attention to detail allows her to see cases through a different lens.” Sound familiar? Here’s to hoping Joni likes checked blazers and patterned scarves. If only her law firm also had a quirky tech guy…Congrats, Kennedy!

Speaking of Kennedy, she along with the writers and Riley came on Twitter to commiserate in solidarity with us on the lack of a premiere date, and to confirm that those fake episode titles (e.g. “The Whispers of the Grim” 😂) were bogus.

We also got SEASON 4 EMOJIS, her favorite scenes (in Ep. 3 and 13 after some clarification), and assurance that we will cry hard at the end of the finale.

Besides Cupid’s arrow (hopefully NACE and not some alternate love interests we have to suffer through), looking forward to the Hardy Family Hannukah Dinner, Game Night! (see below), camping out in that cool Airstream, road trip (PLEASE LET IT BE NANCY AND ACE), BABY (Carson and Jean’s perhaps?), curse breaking via a spell book Bess finds perhaps, and FIRE (oh no). Also Nancy’s gonna give some more blood, but we knew that already. I wonder if Ace is the latest blood donor….

Speaking of Game Night, here’s a little seen BTS photo from DP Nick Thomas I never posted from back in late September - Game Night is ON at Icarus Hall, and probably in the same episode with the earth shattering Nace photo Kennedy posted the same week. Does anyone recognize what game they’re going to be playing?

Next, the hit horror film M3GAN with the creepy life sized American Girl doll killer helped the CW pay the bills with a cross promo with ND that gave us a tiny bit of S4 footage.

We got to see Bess performing some kind of ritual? on Nancy with a weird contraption (mask? Ghost goggle type lens?) and Nancy vomiting black ick. They’re doing this in the in the Drew house, which is strange since Nancy seems to have moved into Icarus Hall. Ace’s voiceover where he questions Nancy’s eating habits has been debated to death of whether he’s actually in the scene or if it’s audio from the Tom Swift episode (inconclusive).

Based on Nancy and Nick’s (who’s behind Bess) wardrobe, and Kennedy’s mention of filming an episode with a ‘Burning Bride’ comedy vibe back in an early August podcast, I believe this scene is from Episode 2, and related to the cause of whatever humorous curse is going on in that episode. Anyway, Ew. But still nice to see actual S4 footage.

We also saw some of our actors on much deserved vacations, with Maddison and Leah both enjoying tropical vacations with their bfs (in Mexico and Costa Rica respectively).

This will probably be my last marathon post for a while. I do still owe a breakdown of Riley’s post from the last day of filming in the Claw set with baby shower props (!). Also, I finally reached 100+ notes with a short post of just fantastic cast BTS photos.

I’ve been hard at work on Part 2 of No One Mourns the Wicked, my Secret Sleuth fic with a Season 1 AU where the crew put on a summer stock production of Wicked. It’s almost done and it’s a doozy. I will probably split it into multiple parts to make it easier to consume, as it sort of turned into a multi-chapter extravaganza. Whoops. Speaking of which, I’ll be jumping right back into The Space Between (S4 spec fic) as soon as I’m done - there’s still a lot of insanity planned for the crew post curse breaking. They still have a mystery to solve…

Hey Drewds, just 59 days to mayhem! While we wait, I wanted to share 2 recent discoveries I’ve made of new featured actresses in Season 4 (potential minor spoilers ahead).

You may remember back in July, Maddison shared an adorable story from the golf cart that brought her out to the creepy woods with the “2 heart throbs” (Alex and Tunji of course).

There was also a young woman in the cart with them, and we all speculated on whether she was cast or crew. Well it turns out she is CAST, her name is Megan Munro, and she’s listed in the premiere episode as “Young Actress” on IMDB.

Now she and a few other returning featured actors (including Thomas Cadrot, Sharon Taylor, Ecstasia Sanders and Richard Keats who play Jonas and Shelby Glass, Officer Joyce, and Judge Abbott) are listed for 4.1, which makes me feel confident the cast listings are legit. This is in contrast to the new Season 4 episode titles that appeared this week that we have yet to receive confirmation on.

So - who does she play? Assuming “Young Actress” is a placeholder so as not to spoil her character, is she the new potential love interest for Ace? Someone who is somehow affected by the main “graves” mystery storyline? There is one other actress listed for 4.1 who plays “Corpse #3” who is also a stuntwoman, so there is certainly going to be some supernatural high jinks going on in the woods/cemetery (zombies?). Can’t wait to find out if I got even close with my speculation in The Space Between (Chapter 14 coming this week!).

OK, moving from 4.1 to the finale (4.13) and my second reveal, if you remember back on the last day of filming Riley posted a very interesting BTS video of his and Scott’s final scene at The Claw amongst what looks like a baby shower. There are a few new characters in that video revealed in that video, but the most interesting is someone named “Jessica” who was standing right behind Riley and Scott. I believe I’ve found the actress - Jessica Meraz of Major Crimes and Supergirl, who lists “Nancy Drew” as “soon” in her bio, and who certainly looks like the actress we catch a glimpse of in the baby shower scene.

Now I believe she is integral to the scene based on where she’s standing and Scott giving her a big hug. Two thoughts I had were 1. Could she be Jean’s sister? I believe from past clues Carson and Jean get married (in episode 8) and are having a baby. Back in episode 3.11 Jean talks about her sister who has a cabin in Winter Harbor that she and Carson could visit for a romantic weekend (presumably where they are headed at the end of 3.13 after Nancy cries to him about losing her soulmate sniff). It would make sense that Jean’s sister would be a recurring character as her maid of honor, throwing her baby shower, etc.

Second thought is that she is a love interest for Ryan. Reading Jessica Meraz’s IMDB resume and while she looks young, she has been in the business for a bit and could be a good match for Ryan age-wise. It’s possible this is her baby shower and there’s a time jump (she’s wearing a bulky sweater so it’s plausible), but I lean toward it being Jean’s (I’m happy with either!). Could she be Jean’s sister and Ryan’s love interest? We won’t know for a while if this storyline develops mid-season, or who knows, we may meet her in Episode 1!
