Punjabi festivals are a vibrant blend of cultural traditions, religious significance, and community celebrations, deeply rooted in the region’s heritage. The festivals are primarily based on the Nanakshahi calendar, which marks important events related to Sikh Gurus, such as birth anniversaries and martyrdoms. These festivals offer a profound insight into Sikhism and Punjab’s values, with each one embodying the spirit of unity, joy, and devotion.
Here are some of the major festivals celebrated in Punjab:
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti: Celebrated in December or January, this festival honors the birth of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru. Devotees remember his teachings through kirtans, processions, and acts of seva (selfless service).
Lohri: Held on January 13, Lohri marks the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season, particularly the rabi crops. The festival involves gathering around bonfires, singing folk songs, and performing traditional dances like bhangra and gidda. Lohri also holds significance for newlywed couples and newborns, with families organizing grand celebrations.
Hola Mohalla: Occurring the day after Holi, Hola Mohalla celebrates Sikh martial heritage with displays of martial arts, horse riding, and archery. Held over three days at Anandpur Sahib, the festival combines physical endurance with spirituality, featuring kirtans, poetry recitations, and community meals.
Vaisakhi: This festival, celebrated on April 13 or 14, marks the Punjabi New Year and the harvest of wheat. It also commemorates the founding of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Gurudwaras are decorated, and there are community prayers, processions, and langars (community kitchens).
Bandi Chhor Diwas (Diwali): While Diwali is celebrated across India, Sikhs observe it as Bandi Chhor Diwas, marking the release of Guru Hargobind Ji from imprisonment. The day is celebrated with lights, fireworks, sweets, and family gatherings, especially at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Guru Nanak Jayanti: The most significant Sikh festival, Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru, on Kartik Purnima (usually in November). The day is filled with Akhand Path (continuous reading of the Guru Granth Sahib), processions, and kirtans.
Punjabi festivals are an enriching way to explore the culture, faith, and history of Punjab. They provide visitors with a deep connection to Sikhism, making them a unique cultural experience. Whether it's the lively celebrations of Lohri or the spiritual atmosphere of Guru Nanak Jayanti, these festivals are a testament to the region’s rich heritage.

Let us reside a Happy New Year inside us
December 2022 is running right now. 2023 is about to start in a few days. That means the new year is about to come. But one thing always makes one wonder if changing the date of the calendar really brings the new year and the old year goes. Now if we look back 2022/23 years, the world was then. Then how did the people know the new year, how did the old year look like then? In fact, there was no calendar at that time. As the human intellect developed, so did the names of the days, the names of the months came, for the convenience of the human being so that life could be lived in a smooth manner. And life could go on in any order. God has created only day and night. The names of the days, the names of the months are made by man. It is also the search of the human brain for the 7 days of the week and the names of the days. Year 12 months and month names and 30/31 days in a month. These calendars are made by us. Everyone has their own calendar. As for the Sikh community, the calendar is known as the original Mool Nanakshahi calendar. It’s just a little bit of an introduction to the calendar. But what I am going to share here is whether a new year really comes. In fact, just by changing the calendar date outside, the new year does not start, in fact the new year should start inside us. We don’t have to wait for the calendar to change outside for that new year inside.
The new year rises inside us when we live with the Truth. We make Gurbani the basis of our life. The thing to think about is, has there been a change in our lives in the new year according to the calendar or are we still living the same selfish life. Now let’s try to understand according to Gurbani what is new in the new year. Has anything changed with the change of calendar date outside?
This means that even in this so-called new year, the moon, sun, stars, earth and air are all the same as they were yesterday / old year then what is new.
This means that it is not a matter of external change. The new year should come inside us. We have to make our thoughts good. Connecting with Guru Sahib Ji.
Meaning my Parmaatma always blesses and never gets tired of giving gifts and good virtues. Yes, but I have to make an effort to get the gift of those qualities.
Sometimes we say that this year was very bad or that this year was very good. Now the days are made by God. If we say bad or good then it means we are blaming Akal Purakh for not making the day good. Good or bad days depends on us. Gurbani explains to those who think of the good and the bad of the day.
That is to say, those who do not come under the shelter of Satguru Ji do not associate with any good virtues. Just keep thinking about the good and bad days of your life. The number of such human beings is only in fools.
No day in itself is good or bad. Because Gurbani has a Hukum:
This means that every day we live with truth, live with good qualities, that day is good. When we live a life forgetting the true thoughts of God, that day is bad.
Gurbani mentions seven days, twelve months, all the seasons. But everywhere Satguru Ji has given us an example of external days, times, seasons and months, explaining that we can have any month inside us whenever we want. We just need to look inside ourselves.
Meaning all days and nights become very pleasant when we remain attached to the Parmaatma’s remembrance.
We have to offer the new year in our Surat/Mind. We have to hold the Guru’s palla/hand. If you have done anything wrong this year, let us promise ourselves that we will adopt good qualities in the coming new year. Who party in New Year’s Eve. They have their own will. But many of our brothers and sisters go to Gurdwara Sahib on the night of 31st December. Gurdwaras hold kirtan darbars. All of them are requested to inculcate the meaning of Kirtan in their mind and to live their life according to the teachings given in Gurbani. This is actually the new year. Let’s find out for ourselves what mistakes we have made in the past year. Let Satguru Ji be present and promise yourself that in this coming New Year we have to try to live a life of good deeds and Guru’s wisdom. One has to give up one’s first bad habits and adopt the new Guru’s wise habits. The New Year is to be celebrated within oneself. Because the whole thing is inside us. In the end:
This means that only the day, the year is auspicious when we become pious and have a high spiritual state by wearing good qualities and doing good deeds.
So, join hands and request that we do not just celebrate the new year according to the calendar but try to celebrate the new year with good thoughts inside us. That is really a Happy New Year.
From the light of Gurbani

Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Birthday 2023
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism was born at Talwandi Rai Bhoi (now called Nankana Sahib), the southwest of Lahore (Pakistan) in April 1469. *Somehow the Celebration has been misplaced in the Calendar from Vaisakh month to Kartik. He was a revolutionary, religious, and social "former according to whom the political and cultural domination of the people by the ruling and priestly classes was chiefly responsible for their degeneration. Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti 2023 Greetings Wishes
Download HD Their emancipation, he thought could only be brought about by a new consciousness that should instill into them the unity and fatherhood of God and the equality and fraternity of man. He refused to recognize the distinctions between man and man and between the sexes created by the old caste systems and other orthodox social conventions and proclaimed that all women born were equal in the eyes of God. The Sikhs as a community are the disciples and followers of Guru Nanak and his nine lights till Guru Gobind Singh, who created out of the disunited and emasculated fabric of society in Northern India a well-knit homogeneous body of people devoted in a bold and selfless spirit to the service of their countrymen. Download HD Happy Gurpurab 2023 | Guru Nanak Jayanti Greetings On Guru Nanak Dev Ji Parkash Gurpurab, we remember how Nanak’s teachings have impacted humanity. His belief in equality, love, and unselfish service, cuts across time and still leads us to a better world. We should celebrate this occasion not only by remembering his wisdom but also by making an effort to live his teachings and create more just and compassionate societies.
Download HD Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji 2023 Wishes Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born at a critical time when India had no centralized power. The foreign invaders were engaged in robbing the country by honoring the countrymen. Superstition and rituals were dominated in the name of religion. The foreign culture was being enforced in this country. There are many aspects to the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He was a great philosopher and a thinker who solved the spiritual curiosities of the common man. The great saint-poet stunned the heart of the public with his sweet and simple voice. Like a revolutionary poet, he raises his voice against the policies of a tyrannical ruler like Babur, then shows the right direction to society trapped in caste animosity and religious rivalries. Apart from being a spiritual thinker, and saint, Guruji was also a great patriot. He was a revolutionary-era man in the true sense.
Message of One-ness When Guru Nanak Dev Ji founded the Sikh religion in the 15th century, it marked the beginning of a revolutionary change in people's attitudes toward it. It was an attack on the paradoxical thinking that separated one's worldly life and one's spiritual life. With his thoughts, Guru Nanak Dev Ji shook the foundation of social and religious values of that period. He first gave the idea to the people that the social life of man is not an obstacle to his spiritual life but an inseparable part of it. Guru Nanak Birthday 2023 Wishes in Punjabi
Download HD Before talking about the relevance of the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the fifth largest religion in the world, let us understand the word Sikh. Sikh means disciple. That is, one who adopts the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in his conduct and life as a disciple, he is a Sikh and we all know that humanity is the biggest religion in his teachings, so his teachings are relevant every time.
Download HD Guru Nanak Parkash Gurpurab 2023 Guru Nanak Dev Ji Parkash Gurpurab is a splendid festival of the divine light that entered this world. His life and doctrines are the guiding light for all humanity. This is a holy day on which we recall the life of the prophet and we follow the path of truth and humble dedication without self-interest. Let the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev enlighten our hearts and take us on a path towards meaningful and pious existence.
Download HD When Guru Nanak Dev Ji says 'Ek Omkar, Satnam', he is compelled to accept this definition of spirituality from his followers and from ancient Vedic science to modern science. They say Ek Omkar Satnam i.e. Omkar is the one unchanging truth. Omkar means Om. We all know that whatever we say and utter words have a limit, but Omkar is unlimited. Ancient sages have also called Om Ajapa because Om is wordless i.e. beyond words. Modern science also accepts that Om is not a sound but an Anahata sound. Because sound is produced by the collision or vibration of two objects but not by colliding with anyone. Guru Nanak Dev Ji Birthday 2023 HD Image

Download HD Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti 2023: Happy Gurpurab Quotes At the time of Guru Nanak’s enlightenment, the internal condition of the world, especially India, was unfortunate. India had lost its true existence in all four pillars of prosperity – political, economic, social, and religious. At such times, Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached equality and brotherhood by erasing the distinction between high and low. The philosophical influences of religion, which once dominated the world, have fallen prey to cults over time. God was imprisoned in the temples. Hindus as well as Buddhists started worshiping idols. There was a time when the number of idols exceeded the number of Hindus. The religious situation was tense. Guru Nanak seriously studied religious degradation and devised a long program of three Udasis to awaken the human consciousness to quench the burning world so that the oppressed humanity would get a new direction for a meaningful way of life.
Download HD Gurpurab Guru Nanak Dev Ji 2023 Wishes Guru Nanak Dev Ji holds a prominent position in the historical, religious, social, and literary spheres of Punjab and India. His religion was universal, so he is known as the Guru of the Hindus and the ‘Peer of the Muslims. He said that God is one and He dwells in every particle of the universe. He taught the lesson of universal harmony and raised his voice against hypocrisy to eradicate the contagion from society.
