Okay so @laurasauras​ is plugging all her favorite people, and I guess it was Valentine’s Day that turned into “Palentine’s Day” and now fuck it it’s just going to be fic recs all the way down, I kind of felt like this was some action I wanted to get in on myself.  I was going to write a bunch more posts like this tonight but I kind of got carried away here and this is already “late” by whatever standards of lateness one could imagine applying, so I’ll get to them in due course.  (If you are not Laura, don’t worry, I’m probably also thinking of your fic)

I’ve already plugged Knight of Spades (her long-running meteorstuck epic, much like R^4 is mine) and done a send-up of her other cute fic Observation, so let’s talk about other awesome Homestuck fics Laura has done -- she has 134 of them as of now and that figure is likely to be outdated quickly because she is a fic machine, I swear to god, but here are a few other ones I quite liked and might not already have plugged here.

Kaleidoscope [G] is another fic with a cute premise I read early on in discovering Laura’s stuff.  It’s a series of four vignettes about the beta kids having become the “gods of quadrants” on Alternia, and various of our troll friends going to worship at their temples.  I think it’s implied that they feed off quadrant feelings/energy the way it’s common for other gods in other continuities to feed off of belief, but that seems almost incidental to the downright familiar -- one might say “profane” -- ways these gods commune with their worshippers.  There are many beautiful moments here that I don’t want to spoil, but Nepeta (in Rose’s temple) and Eridan (in John’s) are particularly nicely characterized and I love them both.

I’d Tap That (oh fuck I didn’t mean to tap that) [T] is an unabashed romp through Davekat.  Dave was That Guy What Went So Far Above And Beyond Stuffing Dead Mice In Karkat’s Pants in high school, except now it’s years on and Karkat has gotten hotter but not any less bitter.  And where do they meet again, accidentally of course (thanks Terezi but no thanks oh wait thanks), but Grindr.  The banter here!  If you came to Knight of Spades for, you know, the spades, this one’s a treat for sure though with a more madcap, desperate texture to it.  Beautiful supporting cast work from Rose and Kanaya, I’ll add.

Nak Nak Nakkin’ On Heaven’s Door [G] -- Dave.  Dirk.  Nakkodiles.  It’s that simple.  I think any further commentary I could provide would be gratuitous, but honestly, the title alone was enough to convince me to read it.  It is exactly what it says on the tin.

Warga Buhit Samosir Tewas Laka Lantas di Sigaol

Samosir (SIB) -Seorang warga Desa Pardugul Buhit, Kecamatan Pangururan, Kabupaten Samosir H Sinurat (42), mengalami kecelakaan lalulintas (lakalantas) di Sigaol Simbolon, Kecamatan Palipi, Minggu (8/1). Korban sempat dilarikan ke Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah (RSUD) dr Hadrianus Sinaga, namun nyawanya tidak tertolong lagi. Menurut keterangan dr Teresia Tarigan yang menangani korban, korban dibawa ke Instalasi Gawat Darurat (IGD) RSUD Hadrianus Sinaga sekira pukul 21.00 WIB dengan kondisi yang sangat parah dan sudah tidak bernyawa lagi. Sementara tiga orang lagi, dua di antaranya harus dirujuk ke Medan dan seorang lagi telah dibawa pulang pihak keluarga. Dikatakannya, ada empat orang yang dibawa ke IGD yakni SN (16), karena muntah darah dan PS (17) patah tulang di bagian paha serta harus dirujuk ke Medan. Satu orang lagi, ES (16) telah dibawa pulang atas permintaan pihak keluarga, walaupun harus diopname. Pantauan di rumah duka, jenazah tiba di rumah duka di Lumban Sinurat, Desa Pardugul Buhit dengan Ambulance milik RSUD Hadrianus Sinaga pada Senin (9/1) sekitar pukul 02.35 WIB dini hari, disambut isak tangis histeris istri korban, E Naibaho (41) dan para keluarga. Sambil menangis, istri korban mengatakan, sebelum kejadian pada siang harinya, suaminya masih mengantarnya ke gereja untuk mengikuti ibadah Minggu. The little lizard’s sudden immolation makes you jolt in surprise! That’s… not something they usually do, even the smattering of consorts who have some magical prowess. A few undead critters here, a bit of abjuration or evocation there, occasionally something that needs some mechanical repair because of an errant blast. But… not horrific potentially self-immolation. You share a nervous glance at Rose, a bead of sweat appearing at your brow. You kneel down beside the little fellow’s bones, holding your hand out near them.

jeez, that just vaporized pretty much everything about that little guy other than his bones, these things are blasted clean! uhmmm, ive never heard of shiva in any context outside of, uhm, the hindu god… maybe some denizen we dont know about? they usually have pretty familiar names! this is definitely something we should get to the bottom of!!

You purse your lips and frown. You hate to have a Consort die like this, but… you don’t think even Jane or Nannasprite could do much with so little to work with. The most you’d get would be a rattling little skeleton. You shoot Rose another glance, this one thoughtful.
