Wow, 🔍! This was A LOT. Thank you so much for all your hard work putting this together. These are mostly with Emma Kenney and a few that also feature Emma or Ethan. We already know a lot about her and the show, but I still managed to unearth a few gems.

A quote about a member of the Shameless writing team: “But we have great writers. A lot of the story lines are based on the writers’ real lives. One of our writers, when she was 14, she dated a 25 year-old guy, so that is where that came from.”

A quote about working with Noel: "The storyline with Mickey (Noel Fisher) and Debbie where they plan to kill Sammie was one of my favorite storylines to do.  Working with Noel Fisher is amazing; you instantly become a better actor whenever you’re around his presence because he is so talented.  He’s also so nice and so fun to work with; he’s such a positive, good person.  We were dying and cracking up filming those scenes.  The part in the scene where Debbie is in her bed explaining to Mickey her whole dream sequence.  They had the cameras rolling for fifteen minutes improvising and we were doing all of these facial expressions and we kept laughing.  It was really great!"

Her take on what it's like to work in Hollywood: "It’s hard growing up in Hollywood, you know? I’m not from LA originally. I was born in New York, grew up in Brooklyn and then I moved to New Jersey, and then I moved out to LA full-time about two years ago. You’ve just got to be wary around people. You don’t know what they want from you. Just in LA, people have questionable motives. Everybody’s kind of got an angle. You’ve got to be aware of that.”

Insights from Emmy about directing: Rossum is directing an episode this season, a first for her. I asked if that changed the dynamic with her castmates.

“Initially they were a little hesitant and nervous because I tend to be pretty Type A and a perfectionist. I think they thought I would be really hard on them. But I am so in love with their talent and only want to create an environment where I can give suggestions that they can take or leave.”

Also: “I don’t apologize. No. As the director, you have to speak loudly and be decisive and know what you want, and there’s no room to apologize for that. I don’t think I always have the ultimate best idea. But there’s also no time for any kind of wishy-washying.”

A quote from Emma about being playful with Cam and JAW:

A quote about having an oversharing phase on social media:

"I went through a phase when I was 13 or 14, I would tweet emo things about my feelings and boys who didn't like me and mean girls in school. My mother would delete my tweets and I would tweet petty [things] like, 'When your mom deletes your tweet.' Something crazy. Then I probably talked to Emmy [Rossum] or Shanola [Hampton], and they were like, 'Dude, why are you promoting such bad, negative things? Why are you tweeting these things?' They're not even tastefully said.'"

A quote about Emmy being Emma's biggest female inspiration. Read it closely because it directly contradicts what she's said about her being a negative presence on set:

Another quote about Emmy's strength and voice: On the subject of Rossum’s pay dispute last year (she successfully negotiated equal pay with William H. Macy), Kenney says, "I'm happy that [was] public. Emmy is very strong. She should be getting equal pay to Bill Macy. I really look up to her strength in general. She’s always told me, 'Emma, why use your voice just to talk about things and say how bad they are and how sad things are in the world? Do [something] to make a difference rather than just talk about it.'"

A giant contradictory statement about Emmy and staying close with her post-Shameless: "I mean, I love Emmy," she says. "I've grown up with her as a big sister figure. "But no, it's not going to be the end of my relationship with her or any of the cast."

An interesting insight to phones on set. Doesn't quite make sense considering how much bts content we used to receive daily during filming: "[John Wells] doesn’t like phones on set — that rule kind of got broken a little bit."

We already knew this, but the chat has a name. Cute! Everyone I worked with on Shameless I love and I’d love to work with again,” she continued on Saturday. “We do [have a group chat], it’s called The Shameless Family. The whole cast is in it.”
