Claudia: "You think I'd let you away with this?" She spits at the ground. "Fight me."
Najsha: "Hmpf. Give it your best shot, I dare you."
Orlaith: "I don't believe you, I thought you could do worse."
Ordune: He sweeps his staff through the air, tapping its tip to the ground. "Well, go on, then."
Affril: "Oh, sweet child of the south, you wish to play this game." He brandishes a jewel-encrusted dagger. "Give me your all, but prepare to lose."
Namon: "Will you fight me like a man, or a coward?"
Eshani: "Let's have some fun, shall we?"

Rhea's Writing Challenge — Day 1: A Broken Seal
I found this lovely post here, where the challenge is to write something every day for the next 365 days. As much as I enjoy writing, I sometimes get too busy to do it. Perhaps this challenge will drive me to be more consistent. Expect plenty of new characters, alternate points-of-view and potentially deleted scenes. If you wish to be tagged for all of my challenge posts, do let me know :D

Synopsis: On a glorious autumn evening, High Councillor Claudia Emar finds a skeleton walking out of the court's ancient temple. Fearing the worst, she calls the other High Councillors to plan for the impeding consequences.
Context: This is an alternate point of view of a scene that occurs early on in the edited version of Obsidian Sapphires (which I'm currently working on). As shown in the text below, this event is a really big deal, and everyone featured here is going to be nervous and on their toes trying to deal with the consequences. (Some more than others, *cough* Eshani *cough*)
A skeleton sauntered out of the Temple of Verelise.
It walked with no regard for others, nor minor obstacles, brushing off Claudia’s shoulder in the process.
“Explain yourself.” She grabbed it by its forearm, only for it to pull away in her grasp.
Both of them pulled, Claudia using both hands to keep it from fleeing.
It flailed about, placing its other hand over hers. The crows went at it, pecking its bony digits.
The skeleton swatted them away, its other arm popping out of its socket.
The two of them stared for a moment, before the skeleton left on its merry way.
Claudia looked to the temple, its towering stone doors burst wide open.
“Petrius.” She waited until he perched on her shoulder. “Get the other High Councillors, I’ll be at the main doors.”
She stood under the front arch, peering in to find the inner doors had been breached. Beyond that point she couldn’t see further, for the sun had set beyond the point where it could shine into the atrium.
“What might be the manner of this?” The first of the High Councillors — Affril — appeared, his face still covered in facial cream.
While all the others appeared, she worried that the skeleton’s appearance was a hoax, some sort of fault or cruel trick. But, what if it wasn’t? If Desemir got his hands on it, then she’d lose her pawn that was his daughter.
“Our temple has been breached.” She gestured to the inner doors, just as the last High Councillor — Eshani — appeared. “Through these doors, a skeleton emerged, headed towards and likely past the Lower Basin. Has anyone seen or heard of any suspicious activity as of late?”
Everyone shook their head, before making their way inside the temple. The walls of the outer atrium had stone figures of former High Councillors carved into them. Various patterns and designs bordered the carvings, linking to the designs on the inner doors, depicting Ghartain Morilast standing guard with a sword in his hands.
“Do you truly think someone stole the Chalice?” Namon asked.
“I don’t know.” Orlaith took a deep breath. “These doors are spelled, they’re meant to be almost impenetrable.”
“Are we supposed to be seeing anything?” Affril said, as everyone squinted in the dark.
Eshani and Najsha each released plumes of fire into the atrium, at which point everyone gasped.
“This is impossible.”
“How can this be?”
“Who stole it?”
Everyone erupted into uproar, trying to come to terms with what happened. The Allaitri Chalice had gone missing. After thousands of years under Morilesian guard, someone managed to swipe it.
“What do we do?” Najsha sent a streak of purple fire around the walls, attempting to find a secret entrance.
“If the skeleton continues towards Helinda, will they not suspect us?” Ordune said to Claudia.
She considered his words carefully, twigs coming together in her thoughts. “If my understanding is correct, the skeleton emerges to claim it back. Leave it on course, and we’ll have it reclaimed before we know it.”
“But how will we manage that, though?” Namon said. “The second that skeleton gets its hands on the Chalice, outright war will ensue. There’s no way it can keep the Chalice obscured until its return.”
“We could have it tracked. Get someone to follow it and teleport it home when the time comes.” Eshani offered.
Claudia nodded in confirmation. “I’ll send some of my crows after the skeleton. The second the Chalice appears, it will be theirs for the taking. And the rest of Helinda won’t be able to prove it’s us.”
“So what’s the strategy if the ministers come knocking on our door?”
“We solve this quietly, on our own terms. If they ask, well, we don’t have it. Deny everything.”
