He is, but not because of his fingernails.

despite my better judgement i decided to participate in rarepair week. i dunno if i’ll do them all (probably not, considering i already missed day one,) but have some gakushuu/nagisa with day 2′s prompt: first.

The first time they meet, he decides they’re different in far too many ways.

That’s why Gakushuu’s certain it’s a fluke when Nagisa texts him the day after graduation.

“Is there something you want from me?”

“No. I just thought it would be nice to talk.”

He sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. He’s supposed to be busy preparing for high school. He doesn’t have time for communicating with this… Strange boy.

And even so, the more he tries to get his mind off of him, the harder it becomes. No-one has ever reached out to him in such a peculiar way before. If nothing else, perhaps he can at least use this boy to get dirt on Akabane.

“Fine,” he texts back. “Meet me at the campus if you truly wish to converse. It’s hardly professional to talk over text. No-one should be there, seeing as how school just let out.”

They meet up at the main campus that afternoon and sit underneath the shade of a massive tree. They discuss the end of an era, and he discovers Nagisa has a strange penchant for the philosophical, just the same as he.

The first time he sees a bruised cheek is when he decides they’re not so different after all.

They meet up after high school most days. Akabane joins them sometimes, but to be truthful, Gakushuu prefers it when he doesn’t.

“What happened?” He asks.

“...You’re going to be too smart to lie to, aren’t you?” Nagisa asks with a sheepish grin. In any other situation, Gakushuu would be flattered.

“Indeed,” he says, before frowning. “Your mother?”

Nagisa blinks, bug-eyed. “How did you know?”

“I have my ways,” Gakushuu simply responds. “The woman has gone ballistic on my father at least once or twice.”

Despite himself, he smirks. And Nagisa must catch it, because he shies back nervously.

“Ah. My apologies. I’m not charmed by your abuse.”

“I’d hope not?”

“...It is simply a fond memory for me any time someone gives my father trouble.”

“You don’t like him very much, do you?” Nagisa asks.

“No,” Gakushuu replies. “I don’t think I do.”

Nagisa leans on his shoulder and whispers “That’s okay, I think. If I’m being truthful, I don’t think I like my family much, either.”

The first time he sees him vulnerable, he thinks he’s going to die.

“What’s that?” Nagisa asks, his brow furrowing with concern.

Gakushuu quickly pulls his sleeve back up. Ah. It seems he’d let his guard down and near about dozed off. That won’t do.

“Nothing much,” Gakushuu replies.

“Did you two fight again?”

It’s Gakushuu’s turn to stare at Nagisa with wide eyes. “H-How did you know?”

Nagisa sighs. “I have my ways,” he says. “Is it recent? Do you need a hand?”

Gakushuu hisses in through his teeth. “I don’t need your pity,” he says. 

“I’m not interested in giving you my pity,” Nagisa says simply, reaching a hand out. “So how about you let me give you assistance instead? One person who gets it to another.”

And despite himself, Gakushuu takes his hand.

“I’d quite like that.”

Nagisa packs ice and tears bandages with his teeth. He’s quite skilled at this routine. In no time, Gakushuu’s arm is all bundled up.

They sit underneath the massive oak, and stare up at the sky. While Gakushuu wonders just what sort of person has stumbled into his life.

Because while the first time he related to Nagisa was the day he saw him marred with black and blue, he thinks the first time he’s respected Nagisa would have to be this very moment.

And for the first time, he wonders if he could live the rest of his life surrounded by this feeling. If it doesn’t have to hurt anymore.

In due time, Nagisa dozes off on his shoulder. And listening to the boy snore, Gakushuu decides he’d quite like that as well.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter because despite how much I love it, it was a bit of a nightmare for me and my translator friends to wrestle with LOL. I love Nagi but he makes up so many silly things 😭😭 Thank you for enjoying my silly tags as well I just have so many feelings over these two since months ago, I'm surprised I'm still so fixated on them.

A14 has always been special to me and if you see the discord server you will see me yapping about it all the time. There's just something about seeing Nagi feeling happy, being ALLOWED to be happy, that just resonated with me. And what I enjoy about nagishuu the fact that we see how their relationship develop right from the start all the way to the end of L4mps.

The flower giving scene is the highlight of the story for me but I'm just biased. Nagi has one of the best story arcs in general and I got emotional at several different points, so its not just me being crazy about a ship (well I am but you get it) so I hope you stay tuned!

L4mps Main Story Translation

Title: The Whereabouts of Family

Characters: Nagi, Toi, Akuta

Summary: Nagi and Toi are invited by the protagonist to have a discussion on their upcoming study trip. Nagi is completely absorbed as he listens to Toi talk about his older twin brother… 

Location: HAMA House - Personal room

Momiji: Oh right, I called Toi-kun over after you’d asked to come to my room. I figured it was best if he was here for this discussion too. 

Toi: I hope we can… get along… 

Momiji: As you can see, he’s still a little out of it from his nap.

Nagi: Okay, got it.

Momiji: I’ll get straight to the point then. 

Nagi: This is about the destination for our study trip, right? 

Momiji: That’s the main part of our discussion, yes. But there’s something I need to inform you about first. 

Momiji: It’s about Toi-kun’s twin brother. That’s why I called him here. 

Toi: ! We’re talking about Ani-sama?

Nagi: …You have a twin brother? 

Toi: Yes, Ani-sama is the best big brother in the whole world! He always makes sure to prioritize me, he always protects me no matter the time and place, he always makes sure to give me the strawberry when we have cake, and when I get bit by a mosquito, he always gently does the X-mark on my bite!

Nagi: X-mark…?

Momiji: Oh, it’s that thing where you press an X onto your bite to ease the itch, right?

Toi: He also always gets rid of the mosquitoes that bite me! And and! If I get a splinter he makes sure to— 

Momiji: –Er, right, you were saying that you’re no longer able to get in touch with your brother, right? 

Toi: That’s right… I don’t know where he went… My fortune-telling refuses to work when I try to look for him… 

Nagi: … Gone missing.

Nagi: (Just like… her…) 

Nagi: …Could you tell me more? Where did you last meet him? What was his condition like?

Momiji: (Nagi-kun’s being pretty proactive with the questioning… I guess anyone would be worried when someone’s family has gone missing.) 

Toi: The last time I saw him was three weeks ago… Ever since we were young, Ani-sama couldn’t stand being at home, so we’d always message on PeChat and fix times to meet behind the parlor instead.

Momiji: (He did mention his brother didn’t get along with their family…)

Toi: And on that day… I remember waking up in the middle of the night, and finding my brother beside me, telling me that he just wanted to see me.

Toi: I wasn’t sure if it was a dream or not, so I drifted back to sleep… But I can still feel the warmth of his hand from when he was petting my hair… 

Nagi: …... 

Momiji: If he came to see you right before he went missing, that must mean he was resolved to do something… 

Nagi: Was there anything else?

Toi: Something else… 

Toi: Ah!!

Momiji and Nagi: !

Toi: He was wearing a really cool eyepatch! He said it’s because he got a stye… 

Momiji and Nagi: …...

Momiji: …That is very important information, yes.

Nagi: True. It should help us identify him while on the search.

Momiji: So you see, I got Toi-kun to join HAMA Tours by promising him that I’d help find his brother. 

Momiji: Of course, I would have still helped him even if he hadn’t joined us.

Toi: Thank you so much…! My fortune-telling revealed that I’ll need the help of the Night Team to find Ani-sama.

Momiji: And you said you managed to get a hint on where he might be now, right?

Toi: Yes. I usually borrow the power of a certain ‘being’ when I do my fortune-telling, but this time I tried to do a reading with my own power. That’s why I could finally ‘see’ a hint.

Toi: —-Far, far north. 

Toi: A large slope lined with many buildings. A town beside the sea, a brick warehouse. 

Toi: That is the place I saw, where I can finally meet Ani-sama.

Nagi: …...!

Momiji: According to Toi’s reading, we can find his brother in a town that fits the description.

Momiji: After I did my research, I found that the closest hit I got was Hakodate. 

Nagi: Hakodate… In Hokkaido, huh.

Nagi: Oh, is that where we’re going, for the study trip? 

Momiji: Exactly. I picked the location while keeping in mind that it might lead us to Toi-kun’s brother… What do you think?

Momiji: I thought it’d be good to have your opinion, as the leader of this team. 

Nagi: …… 

Momiji: …… 

Nagi: ……… 

Momiji: …Um, Nagi-kun?

Momiji: (I’m worried about Kafka, he’s been sharing a drink with the ward mayors one after the other… There's a lot of alcohol in his system now. I remember he could barely hold his liquor when we celebrated his 20th birthday…)

Kafka: *yawn* There you are Chief~ Carry me~

Momiji: Huh!? I take my eyes off of you for a second and you’ve already gotten yourself this drunk? 

Yukikaze: He must have been very excited to see the company finally coming together. Shall I carry him instead?

Momiji: Ah… Thank you, but I should probably get Sakujiro-san to handle him. 

Momiji: (What happened in Kobe couldn’t be helped, but he’d probably sulk if he found out Yuki-nii carried him again.)

Yukikaze: Oh, but I just saw him leaving with Liguang, Kinari and Yodaka to play mahjong.

Momiji: Really, mahjong now?

Kafka: I don’t wanna~ I’m not sleeping till Netaro gets here! We’re gonna take over the world together~

Momiji: (After interviewing Netaro on Daniel’s recommendation, the two of them really hit it off.)

Ushio: So? That has nothing to do with what I just said.

Muneuji: What’s wrong? You’re shaking like a leaf.

Nanaki: I-It’s that guy from before…!

Muneuji: The strange individual we encountered on top of the school roof after our HosLive, is here right now. The intelligence operative who took the egg with him.

Akuta: …F’real? Don’t remember the dude.

Ushio: Is he the 18th ward mayor? The one they said would come in late. 

Muneuji: Most likely. He must be Netaro Yowa-san. 

Nanaki: What was it again… He was from a secret operation called… Ponzu or something—

Akuta: Yorozu!

Ushio: So you remember that. 

Kiroku: The… egg is… with him…!

Ushio: What?

Kiroku: Over… there… 

Laika: Pipipi. Jijiji. Bween.

Nanaki: That’s… not the egg, right? Looks like a regular pet robot to me. 

Ushio: I agree with Panda. 

Kiroku: No… That’s… definitely… 

Muneuji: You were indeed the one who had the strongest bond with the egg. I believe in Kinugawa’s intuition.
