You mentioned Jamil having a curse on your high fantasy au, how this one works exactly? Or what is this curse in general, since (I think???) you didn't elaborated that much on it :3

Okay so, Jamil’s background is heavily influenced based off of ouroboros

His family is cursed to become naga like creatures, considered unsightly and ‘evil’ by most others, only contained by specifically enchanted gold cuffs (like the ones that bound Jafar’s genie) after one of Jamil’s ancestors previously tried to revolt and overthrow the Asims (who are oligarchs and like, almost royalty but not quite in this world). So not only did they get cursed, they also became bound to the Asims. They legitimately cannot say no, and have to follow every order of the Asims as atonement for their previous sins.

The only way to directly break this bond and curse is by a viper killing an Asim. Then, that specific viper will be free.

of course, there are other work arounds. If a Viper can escape without an Asim seeing. As long as they never run into an Asim (which, is quite difficult, considering their affinity for affairs and secret children. ((Most Asims are not good people. I’ve been watching a lot of arcane analysis (also I have never seen it) and I want to have a lot of the Scarabia country focus on excess, to add to Jamil’s resentment. Kalim isn’t as bad tho. He’s just… unaware.) or as long as they never take off the gold bands, they could hypothetically be ‘free’

There is also counter magic. That is what Jamil found, deep in the treasures of the Asim vault. Once he found out exactly what it was, he pocketed it and got it to najma.

It’s also what Azul gets him. They’re notoriously hard to find, and have to be constantly worn. Each region only has a few necklaces (which design wise, all contain references to the movies. Najma’s is the scarab, and the other one from Scarabia is the lamp. The one Azul found is the shell that Ursula uses, etc)

These necklaces both make them no longer have to listen to any Asim order, and make them not have to wear the cuffs anymore. They offer the best and easiest form of freedom for any viper, but unfortunately almost all of them are scattered to the winds or held in some Rich’s guys cavern.

As another example I have drawn some villains as anthro characters for fun before because I was inspired by the potential character design, but you can imagine why I might go out of my way to specify "I think Jafar is icky actually" just to head off his fans thinking I am one of them and trying to connect with me over a "shared love" of the character. I think he's icky personally, and I am not judging you or saying we can't be friends, but if you are trying to cozy up to me because you are looking for fellow Jafar fans to gush with, this is by far the wrong tree for you to be barking up. Stating I think he is icky up front isn't to distance myself from cringe, it's to communicate clearly that you shouldn't expect what you would think you could, from me, based on the fact that I have drawn this picture that -it is reasonable to assume- you think is sexy.

Scarabia monster AU

In-depth look and ramblings of the Scarabia monster duo!

First is Kalim! The fun-loving oasis spirit. Chose this monster because of his oasis maker unique magic!

description: Kalim looks fairly like himself with his element silks and white hair, the tips of his hair fade to a bright sky blue instead of the red/ orange in-game. His skin is a dark sandy color, with a bit of graininess to it, he’s able to manipulate sand a bit in his “normal” form and loves to make random sand sculptures and sand castles. The tattoos on his arms are a soft green color.

In his “spirit” form from his waist down is nothing more than a whispy, ghostly tail that is a pale blue color. In this form, his skin becomes semi-translucent but is still that sandy color. he can float in this form and loves to fly around when Jamil has locked up his carpet a few times.

fun fact: in Kalims "spirit" form he is super flexible since he doesn't have any bones nor the restrictions of said bones. Uses this to do fun and crazy party tricks.

Then, of course, the vice dorm leader, Jamil! of course, he's a naga because he embodies the sneakiness and allure of a snake. his hypnosis is still only in magic and has nothing to do with his naga form.

description: Jamil's upper half is the same as before, with his dark skin and abnormally long hair and the darker colors he wears. the only differences are on his face, his eyes are an olive/grey color with serpentine pupils. he also has some snake-like fangs in his mouth that secrete a slightly paralyzing venom. His lower half is that of a large and long snake. The underbelly of the snake body is a creamy yellow color. The back of the snake is a dark brown with red diamond stripes going along the tail.

In his overblot form his hair still grows the snakes and his outfit changes drastically, however, his lower half had changed a bit too, the dark brown fades into a deep black that now makes the naga's lower half resemble Jafar's snake form. the tip of the tail is adorned with a sword-like jewelry piece.

fun fact: Jamil usually used his tail to guide Kalim around or redirect his attention by swaying it in Kalim's peripheral.

The favorite Street Rat of the palace was out in the Marketplace at this moment, talking to the residents and the shoppers. It was something that he did, mostly for Jasmine's sake. If he could talk to the people around the Marketplace and get their opinions about... well, anything and everything, they could talk to the Sultan and see what small changes could be made around the palace and around Agrabah itself in order to make things easier on the residents. And possibly on the Sultan himself. He was a benevolent ruler, that was for sure. And it was easy to tell that he had the people's best interests at heart when he talked about some of the laws in place today. Although it was also pretty obvious that sometimes the Sultan had a hard time thinking about how best to enact something for the welfare of the people, if Rasoul were anything to go by. The big man had a temper and a mean streak the size of Agrabah itself, though he certainly did also have a soft spot he liked to hide for some of the citizens. Aladdin was currently teasing the guard about having helped a young woman by using some of his coin to buy her a small snack. Rasoul and Aladdin had come to a better understanding of each other after Aladdin's betrothal to the Princess(though it wasn't always obvious), and so it was less of a chore for Aladdin to actually talk to the man.

"Alright! I'm off to go and see Jasmine now!" He called to Rasoul, who only gave a noncommittal grunt at him. Aladdin laughed some, then shook his head, grinning.

But it was as he was walking back towards the palace that the snaking feeling wormed its' way up his back, like something familiar and cloying that he had sensed only once in his lifetime.

Something deadly and powerful.

Watching.

Waiting.

Turning on his heel, he looked around, chocolate eyes finding nothing and heart hammering in his chest like death had just chased him into a corner.

That feeling.

It wasn't the same feeling he felt whenever Mozenrath had threatened his life. It wasn't the same as when he faced off against Mechanicles. And it DEFINITELY wasn't the same feeling he'd had when he'd been turned into a shark. Or even when he and Jasmine had turned into Naga.

No.

The only familiarity to this feeling was Jafar. But that was impossible. The old Vizier couldn't be back.

CHARACTER PROFILE- Nasir Al-Amin (OC)

Name: Nasir Al-Amin Alias: N/A Age: ??? (Appears to be 18) Height: 6′5″ Species: Unknown (Polymorphed Snake) Affiliations: Scarabia (3rd year) Allusion: Jafar’s staff

Personality: Cunning with a sense of humor, Nasir is a Scarabia third year who is rather curious about the world though he doesn’t like to show it, he’s incredibly interested in the magic humans possess. Though Nasir is good on the surface, he can be incredibly manipulative, never outwardly showing it but doing it behind the scenes, a master puppeteer getting those who fall into his claws to do his bidding- never one to slip up when it comes to his own plans even if he goes about it in the shadows. Somewhat lazy but never one to shy away from a situation, Nasir pulls his weight when needed- he’s never one to slack off if something needs his attention, if he needs to do it he gets it done.

Signature spell: Arabian Night - Nasir's UM allows him to freeze someone in place if they look him in the eyes - This lasts for about 30 minutes - Incantation: You are caught in a dance, you are lost in a trance of another ARABIAN NIGHT

OTHER: - A former snake turned into a human, Nasir is the adopted child of a noble family within the Land of Scorching Sands. Not entirely understanding what was going on at the time but knowing they praised a snake god and thanked them for bringing them a child when their own had perished... Though he didn’t understand and barely spoke or knew how to read, they were patient with him and taught him to the point he could do it on his own. Even teaching him magic at a time to keep him defended so an incident like before wouldn’t happen again to their child... - Nasir is highly affected by the winter months, going so far as to brumate come winter which is why he’s incredibly happy Scarabia is warm all year round. It means he won’t miss anything or out on any events- though he does have a habit of falling asleep in classes when those months come around, he usually begins feeling better come Spring or once it becomes warmer. - Nasir IS venomous, his venom is only located in his fangs but it IS that of a cobra... - He can’t turn into a naga, the closest he’ll get is going back to his little cobra form (what he originally was) and he doesn’t want that. Though he has some scales along his shoulders, under his eyes, and down to his waist...

Ranting to myself about overblot!kalim

I feel like an outlier in the fandom for believing this will happen in Episode 4. xD Like a really really really bad outlier... don’t mind me just let me rannnnt it’s 5 in the morning and I know I’ll forget all of this later xD

I mentioned this at least three times by now but Papa Crowley and his foreshadowing has never steered us wrong (plotwise, not so much trustworthy-wise). The emotions he listed that can cause a person to go into overblot (and he was just naming a few) were anger (Riddle), sorrow (Leona), fear (Azul) and confusion. I’m not too sure how an overblot!Jamil will fit into confusion, but an overblot!kalim to me does. I think I explained it a bit better in this reblog... mainly because I wasn’t typing that one out at 5 in the morning. :p Like,, who wouldn’t be drowning in confusion and despair after knowing that your best friend—someone you consider as family—really did use his hypnosis abilities on you? When you trusted him not to, as you knew he had these abilities in the first place?

Except I’m gonna cut Jamil some slack here and say that he didn’t do it because he was power hungry? Because come on that’s a waste of a character development arc right there. Best bet is that he just seems suspicious and like he hypnotized Kalim for a bad thing, but in reality he only did it after that massive fail of whatever was the final exams. Usually, Scarabia and Octavinelle would be like,, neck in neck in final exams. I just see Jamil as someone who really truly honours tradition/reputation and would rather not have it tarnished. (Like how he reprimands Leona on his sitting position even though he’s a prince, or like how much he truly cares about Kalim enough to prepare his ceremony clothes and literally everything else in his life. Like,, in his ceremony clothes story he was so anxious about Kalim? And you can’t even say that was for show because there was. No one. There. Like come on he thought he was hallucinating Kalim until he realized oops. It’s Kalim. Trust me, if you have a poker face there are only two ways to break it. One; if you’re alone, and Two; if you’re with someone you really trust and love [for me, that’s my cat. Shh.])

Also, in all honesty... with him and his logic, it’s kind of rational to not betray Kalim for something on selfishly personal demands. Like,, for upholding the Viper family values. That had really really long roots and I really really doubt that whatever Jamil hypnotized Kalim for was for something wrong, or else Jamil is going to have a lot of explaining to do as to why the Viper Family was fired from their traditional workplace.

I literally rewatched Aladdin for this, but Jafar mainly had two character development series of sequences. One of them was the revelation that he does not like to be second to anyone, and this was the last one revealed. But his character plot line developed into that point because he didn’t want to be replaced as a suitor to Jasmine to become sultan. This is the really icky part everyone wants to forget because... come on, no 16 year old is gonna marry to that. Anywho, he didn’t want to be replaced by Aladdin as the next viable suitor for Jasmine. To me, at least, this lines up with what I believe is Kalim’s character development. Many people have wanted to have him replaced as the next heir to the multi-millionaire bout of wealth; he was poisoned multiple times and kidnapped (which I think was for ransom? Leaving that out there tho). If whatever Jamil is doing to him manages to come within his circle of knowledge, he ah... might feel like Jamil wants to replace him. Either physically or through personality. Chances are, much like Jafar, he won’t be taking that idea lightly. Like,, at all.

I’ll edit this with more later because right now I want to keep staring at the Naga Sultan/King Cobra SSRs. Please let them be happy Yana ;-;

EDIT: I had a mini discussion with myself earlier and it was fun. And a bit boring. But I kind of want to talk a bit about what I think is Kalim’s backstory here too? A lot of things striked as red flags for me. Like,, a ton.

First off, I don’t personally think he has a great relationship with the older bunch of his younger siblings. If he did... well, who would want to off a brother that always plays with them? He mentions in his PE clothes story that he plays a lot with his siblings. I think he plays a lot with his younger ones to be honest. And this goes along with the fact that in one of his main story chats, although I have to find it, he says something along the lines of “something cute when something younger”. (I don’t know if he was referring to MC or his siblings...) This could literally mean anything because ah you can’t exactly refute that, babies are ducking cute, but um.

Back on track, I really have the feeling little babey cinnamon roll just wants some trustworthy friends. Like,, he’ll literally talk to anyone, and I have half a clue that that’s why he likes to party (to get along and build up relationships with others). He mentions his relationship with others a lot in passing, but it’s kind of obvious making relationships and emotional connections are important to him. If you make a good relationship/friendship with someone that’s mutual, where’s the danger of being poisoned because of them? And this is why Jamil thinks Kalim is being too trusting, because it’s very easy that someone is just staying on Kalim’s good side for the possible wealth/chance to take that wealth.

It was mentioned and speculated a lot that the Great Seven were a reference to the Seven Deadly Sins. (Remind me if I miss any posts, but there’s this post by @scaip). If this were to be the case, Kalim representing Lust makes a lot more sense... (please lemme explain xD) Jafar wanted the hand of Jasmine in what was a disgusting marriage built upon deceit and no trust or love, but like... he was one of those Disney villains that lusted for another Disney character. Lust usually just means sexual love, but Disney will definitely weather this symbolism down to just love, trust, and relationships in general. Kalim doesn’t lust for any specific person, nor do I believe he desires for any specified romantic relationship (he already has Jamil :p), but what he’s after is what a lot of people are after when it comes to a romantic relationship—trust and an emotional connection.

Random trivia time!! Not sure if anyone cares but hey. I know snake jay is more to do with Jafar than anything but I just remembered there was an episode in the Aladdin tv series where this cat goddess (can't remember her name or her grudge off the top of my head) tricked Jass into using some magic lotion to turn her into a Naga and they had to quest for a special fruit to cure it. It got weird in some parts and Al got poisoned by her on accident but that's 90's after school toons for ya.
