You can give one of your OCs a big hug – who do you choose? Do you do anything else while you’re at it? Stick a note on their back? Pickpocket them? Stab them?

Many thanks for the ask, Sam! I give Syndy a hug and she's like "yeah sure whatever if it makes you feel better" but 2.3 seconds later when she realizes I left a sticky note on her back I'm already gone.

All the note says is, "It was about them, not you." That is, the way Gweltsen handled their own death. She'll figure out what it means eventually.
