They didn’t think we’d ever come back home to the other side of the Atlantic. #Repost @regineromain with @get_repost ・・・ “Brooklyn to Benin: A Vodou Pilgrimage” begins with an aerial view of the Route des Esclaves (Slave Road) in Ouidah, which terminates at the Atlantic Ocean. Millions of captured Africans were shipped off into slavery for hundreds of years from this location in Benin (formerly Dahomey), West Africa. In tandem to the shifting gaze from the road to the ocean, a traditional prayer is spoken in Fon, an indigenous language of the region, and is performed by Adissowé, a Vodou high priestess. As the invocation honors the four corners of the earth and offers reverence to the mysteries of nature, a woman emerges into view. She is a daughter from the other side of the water, who has now returned to the original homeland of her Haitian ancestors." words by: @regineromain ---------------------------------- These sequences were shot with a DJI Inspire 1 drone for the aerial images and the Sony SLT Alpha 77 by Olatoundji Fagbenro @Gravity390, the Assistant Director/Editor from Benin 🇧🇯 ----------------------------------------- Please watch the complete - "Brooklyn to Benin: A Vodou Pilgrimage" (2016) Link: https://youtu.be/EWUt-9-fiT4 ------------------------------------------- For lectures, film screenings and other booking inquiries contact: Gigi [email protected] ------------------------------------------- #Vodou #Pilgrimage #BrooklyntoBenin #team229 #travelnoire #Haiti #okayafrica #MelaninMajority #RegineRomain #Youtube #BKReader #NYTimes #BitchMedia #theRoot #KweliTV #Instagram #InstagramAfrica #Vodoucestbon #mySpiritualSojourn #HaitianinAfrica #DiasporaDiaries
