31 Amazing Women CAS: Download Pt. 1
Took me a moment but these ladies are now up for download! ♥
TOU and notes:
You can play out the storylines I gave them, or you can ignore it and use them any way you like. I’d be happy to see it anyway!
They only have one outfit set. I would suggest changing their other outfits, otherwise you’ll probably see them around town wearing nothing but a towel 😅 Still better than the randomized madness I had to see them in though.
Please, don’t change their pronouns, gender and sexual orientation.
Don’t change their genetics. Feel free to give them a makeover - new hair, new clothes, makeup etc. Don’t claim as your own, don’t reupload or use as a base for your own sims.
Download links and CC list linked under the cut.
CC LIST HERE.

Regarding complexity and mental load:
One of my friends in our playgroup has given nearly identical feedback about complexity and power creep, and a handful of content creators / doomsayers have echoed those same notions.
I am the opposite. I love new mechanics. New Capenna was a fever dream of connive (which is a 5 star ability), blitz, casualty and what have you. These terms were overwhelming for the first ten minutes of our first precon matchup, but then we talked them through at the table and everyone got it.
Sefris / dungeons is my favorite commander deck, so much so that I’m looking to build an initiative/monarch deck with Vela the Night Clad at the helm.
And I’ve been enthusiastically been trying to make my Myra commander deck work too. Again, I explain in clear terms to my spell table group how attractions work, and everyone gets it within a turn or two, and good times are had.
I hear the complexity feedback, but also I always wonder what the alternative is. Simple vigilance and haste and reach keyworded creatures every few months from here to eternity?
The nature of a trading card game is we have to keep exploring and trying new things. If complexity is an issue, there are a lot of formats that can cut it down for you. Ones that use (almost) all the cards are just going to continue to rise in complexity.

Curls of Smoke (update)
I’m still alive, I promise! I might actually have managed to work out a schedule for my writing and my university work that... that works! I finally have time to do all the things I need to do while still making time for my walks, and a little bit of Netflix here and there.
Just this last week or so, I’ve watched The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix (based on the story by Shirley Jackson). It’s extremely exciting, and super spooky (apparently people have been fainting and losing sleep over it!), but I actually seem to be OK, watching horror (I don’t read all that much of it, but I’m about to start reading Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, so maybe I’ll get into it as a genre). I only had to send one message to the group-chat I have with my housemates, apologising for shrieking at a jump-scene, and it hasn’t given me any trouble sleeping.
I think we’re safe to say it’s affected my writing, though. What do you think?
Behind her, harsh light spilled in from the corridor, cutting a deep shadow across the floor. Scarlet hair spilled from her head like a river of blood. A glow Florian whose source couldn't find lit her face, illuminating her brow and her cheeks and her nose and her jaw, but leaving her eyes dark, like the empty, staring sockets of a skull.
Myra moved soundlessly towards him, white hands stretching out like the obscene skinless bones of a skeleton's. Then her mouth fell open, and a deafening hiss tore its way out, filling the room until Florian was drowning in it. She grabbed him. Her fingers dug into his arms, tore at his skin, drew blood...
This is just a scene where a character has a nightmare, but I’m starting to wonder if I might like to try writing more horror. I’m a big fan of the work of @n-o-ramos (That’s my recommendation, right there! Go and check out her blog; she’s brilliant!), and I like horror films and shows, so I might give it a go, to see if it’s a good fit for me as a writer.
Curls of Smoke is coming along very nicely. My current wordcount is 37,231 (33,990 since 1st October), so I’m still on track to reach my 50,000-word target on 30th October - just in time for Hallowe’en! Maybe I’ll take that day off writing Curls of Smoke, and challenge myself to write a short horror piece before I pick my novel back up for NaNoWriMo.
I’m still thinking about it; to tell the truth, I’m a little worried I’ll like the horror piece too much, and accidentally expand it into a whole book (as has (sort of) happened with Curls of Smoke, much of which I’ve already written as short stories for my Creative Writing A’ Level class and exam). Maybe I’ll save it for when I’ve finished NaNoWriMo. I’ll need a new project anyway, to keep the brain goblins happy.

That Saturday night, Luna and her roomies headed to Pepper’s Pub. Savanna and Harper decided to drink both of their drinks at once and I was like alright 😂
Edit: Oh yeah, I changed the legal drinking age to 18 in-game

"I hope so," Mirage replied coolly, leading her through the hall to the open-plan living space. It was immaculate and chic, un-homely for some. But at least there were wine glasses.
She kept the side of her eye on Myra, for no reason other than... well... Mirage, too, waited for the penny to drop. There was always businesses to discuss, wasn't there? Mirage hoped, at least, that she wasn't being sent for in this instance. That this was simply conversation.
Setting the wine glasses between them, Mirage made haste on uncorking the bottle and pouring them a drink.
"Luckily I've always been excellent at walking in heels," she replied, joking. "I'm sure the mess wasn't intentional, but... what do you make of it?"
Replying to Myra x Mirage from here. @imattractedtopower
"I'm sure that would be quite impossible," Myra said softly, it threatened to be a whisper. She smiled at the invitation, moving past Mirage carefully, aware of the space between them. The penthouse Mirage was currently occupying was pleasant but it gave nothing away. Myra had come to expect this of her. They both had their secrets, they both had their pasts.
Myra was more interested in now. She set the bottle of wine on the pristine countertop in the kitchen, waiting to follow Mirage's cue. She slipped her jacket off her shoulders, setting it carefully down. There was always business to discuss, their fates had been entangled for now. But did Myra really want to think long on Mr Borovsky when Mirage was in front of her instead? Absolutely not.
"There's been an awful lot of mess lately, hasn't there? I expect its kept you on your toes."

The lute in their arms nearly fell as they jumped as the very shadow of the castle manifested itself into the familiar shape of their cousin. Thankfully, they managed to catch the lute, hugging onto it tightly, fear almost immediately dissapating as soon as Myra's words found their way up to their ears, a recognizable glint of mischief sparking in their eyes. "A surplus, you say?" They swallowed thickly. Even though it hadn't been more than a couple of hours since they'd last eaten, there was always space left in the wolf's stomach for something sweet. He couldn't believe it. Myranda Karstark, stealing from the kitchens on their behalf. There was an overwhelming amount of pride washing over him as he smiled at his cousin. "I like the way you think, Myra. There is no doubtin' it. We truly are family." The mere thought of sneaking around and having a snack had their heart working overtime already. "Let us make haste before they set the tart guard on us."
closed for @ravasz
"A little bird may have told me that the kitchen has a surplus of custard tarts." Myranda tugged at the back of Martyn's sleeve, stepping out from the shadows like she was made of them. She had found herself making unlikely friends in Highgarden, but there were none so dear to her heart as her cousin, and when her mind felt clouded, there was no one else she trusted as much to clear it. And if, perhaps, a northerner had been seen fleeing the kitchen after making a special request... Well, she could only hope that rumours would not float their way back to the winter sun. With so many seemingly indisposed after the event, either too tired or too hungover to wander the halls, it was the kind of peace she normally only felt at home, or selected places in the north, rather than the ill feeling that struck her in the reach. "I thought, seeing it is such a nice day, and the gardens seem hardly utilised at all right now, perhaps we could... Relieve the burden from the kitchens, and find a quiet place."

We greet thee, O glorious Saint Nicholas, all-honoured hierarch, great wonderworker, saint of Christ, man of God, good and faithful servant, fountain of love, chosen vessel, strong pillar of the Church, shining lamp, star that illuminest and enlightenest the whole world!
Thou, O Father Saint Nicholas, art that righteous man who, according to the word of the Prophet, didst flourish like a palm tree planted in the courts of the Lord. Dwelling in Myra thou hast diffused the sweet–smelling fragrance of the grace of God in an ever-flowing stream of myrrh. By thy presence most holy Father, the sea was sanctified when thy miraculous relics were carried from East to West to the city of Bari, there to praise the Name of the Lord.
O marvelous wonderworker, speedy helper, fervent intercessor, good shepherd that savest the flock of Christ from all dangers, we glorify and magnify thee as the hope of all Christians. Thou art an ever–flowing spring of miracles, a defender of the faithful, a most wise teacher, a feeder of the hungry. Thou art the gladness of those that mourn, the clothing of the naked, the healer of the sick, the pilot of those that sail the sea. Thou art the liberator of prisoners, the provider, nourisher, and protector of widows and orphans, the guardian of chastity, the gentle tutor of little children, the support of the aged, the friend and advocate of monks, and the rest of those that labour. Thou, O Holy Bishop Nicholas, distributest riches in abundance to the poor and the needy who call upon thy name and beg for thy help.
Hearken unto us that pray unto thee and flee to thy protection. Plead on our behalf with the Most High, and obtain through thy God-pleasing intercessions all that is useful for the salvation of our souls and bodies; keep, through thy help, this holy monastery, every city and town, every Christian country, and the people that dwell therein, from all oppression, for we know, that the prayer of a righteous man availeth much for good; and after the most-blessed Virgin Mary, the all–holy Mother of God, we look to thee, O Father Nicholas, for help and, full of confidence, hasten to thy fervent intercession.
Do thou, as a watchful and good shepherd, keep us from all enemies, pestilence, earthquake, hail, famine, flood, fire, and violence. Protect us from the invasion of the godless, the perversions of the wicked, the contagion of illnesses, and from being destitute and penniless in the the hour of our need. In all our misfortunes and affliction do thou stretch forth a helping hand. Open wide to us the doors of God’s compassion for we, by reason of the multitude of our iniquities, are unworthy to knock at heaven’s door; we are bound by the knots of many sins; we have sinned again and again, and our hearts have grown hard and cold in disobedience to the divine commands.
Wherefore, on bended knee, we incline our hearts before Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore thy fatherly intercession with our all–merciful God. Lest we perish in our sins, deliver us from all evil and from every diabolical deceit; illumine our minds and strengthen our hearts in the pure light of the Orthodox Catholic Faith, in which, through thy mediation and intercession, we pray to be preserved free from all corruption, division, heresy, and shameful compromise with the enemies of the holy and life–giving Cross. Vouchsafe, O Father Saint Nicholas, that we may live a peaceful life in this monastery and, at length, rejoice to see the good things prepared for us in the land of the living, unto the glory of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God, praised and adored in Trinity, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

secret son part 3
A/N: please let me know what you think! If anyone has any requests please send them to me!
Summary: Matt is performing for his schools talent show, which Myra will also be present for.
It’s excruciatingly hot in the car, sweat dripping down Richie’s face making his body feel clam and gross, while he’s almost panting like a dog. It’s not summer yet, but it’s June and that means that it is summer in Richie’s mind, but even he hadn’t been able to predict this type of weather.
The sun is shining scorching hot, burning almost anything she touches, not a giving way to even a slight breeze, and it fucking shows. Normally, the trip from their house to Matt’s school is only a half-hour, but today, it seems all the odds are stacked against them.
Everyone collective decided to go on a trip this weekend apparently, causing a blockage of cars as far as Richie can see it, and they were late to begin with. Eddie’s gripping the steering wheel between his fingers like a vice, vibrating and his face a dark shade of bloody red, but that might not have anything to do with the heat. For a moment, his mouth turns into a sneer again, opening his mouth to yell at the drives before them, but then he shakes his head and takes a few deep breathes.
Richie contemplates calling Myra again, to let her know that they’ll be late so she can let Matt know, but that will most likely send her into another tirade, and that is the last thing they need right now. As they stop for the third time in 3 meters, Richie vows to buy Matthew a phone, whether it be against Eddie’s wishes or not.
The twenty-first annual middle school talent show is hosting its show tonight, and Matt had asked Richie and Eddie to show up. They said yes, of course, both of them more than excited to see their son perform on stage, even if the show itself will just be a bunch of middle-schoolers, dancing and parading.
Their son, a voice repeats in his head. Not deter by the atmosphere hanging around him and his boyfriend, Richie’s heartstrings pull together, making Richie feel breathless for a second. Cause that’s what Matt is to him now, his son. Maybe not biologically, but in every way that it counts.
Matt called his pops a few times as a joke whenever Richie would mirror Eddie’s ministration, like warning him to be careful in the park, or not to go with strangers, a testimony to how many times he had overheard Eddie say it, and a habit developed from there.
Sure, Matt still calls him; ‘Richie’ sometimes, mostly when Myra is around, or when they’re taking playful jabs at each other, but all in all, Richie has become pops. The name suits him, Eddie told him, but it still seems a little unreal to Richie, that he trashmouth Tozier, is a dad to a wonderful kid. Said kid also wants to spend as much time with him as possible, spending every week and weekend with them, expect a weekend every two weeks with his mother.
That’s a fair deal in Richie’s books, considering that it was Matt who wanted the arrangement to be like that, but Myra had to audacity of claiming that Richie poisoned his mind against her, and that he was the one manipulating Matt to make these claims. He hadn’t expected her to forfeit like that straight away, but he also hadn’t expected her to do everything she could to make Matt have to go to her. She fought Eddie for full custody, ignoring all of her sons own pleas to her.
She lost, but the whole thing resulted in Eddie being more aggravated to her, for trying to take away his son, whereas before, he was content to leave her be as long as she didn’t interfere in his life.
‘Motherfucker’, Eddie mumbles under his breath angrily, a grunt-like sound originating from him as he watches the car in front of them skid to a halt again, his face turning more sour by the minute.
Experience has taught Richie that he best lets Eddie rage inside his mind for a little way, at least until he has inwardly yelled at everyone and everything in his mind, before attempting to talk him down.
They’ve both gotten much better at that, both Eddie and Richie. Richie so he can stop his motormouth running a mile a minute, spouting out whatever comes to mind to stop the situation from exacerbating, usually leading to the situating exacerbating, and Eddie has accumulated hos behavior, not lashing out at people who don’t deserve it.
‘Hey fucker,’ Eddie seethes when they reach a crossroad, a car coming in from the left and cutting them off, even though that won’t make him get to his destination any faster, the flow of traffic still blocked like Eddies mom’s underwear.
‘Was that so worth it asshole? What you gonna do now? Speed away?’
Richie places his hand on Eddie’s arm that’s still wrapped around the gear stick that’s off no use, rubbing what he hopes are comforting circles on his upper arm.
Eddie’s eyes turn to his, a sigh escaping him as he takes his hand of he wheel, one of them interlocking with Richie’s hand.
‘You’re right, you’re right Rich. But I don’t wanna be late to my sons performance. You know how Myra is going to have him agitated, and I wish we could be there to calm him down.’
Richie does know, which is why it sucked balls that Matt was going over to her house this weekend of all times. Compromising had been no use, Myra kept insisting that it was her time and they weren’t going to take that away from here, even when Eddie promised her that Matt could go the weekend after.
A call from Matt’s teacher had informed them that Matt was in fact not present during rehearsals on Friday after school, and that told Richie and Eddie all they needed to know.
Contacting Matt was off no use, since he had no phone and Myra refused to let them interact with one another. Again, Richie made a mental note to gift Matt an iPhone or something alike, and no one was stopping him.
‘I know Eds, but that guy is not responsible for that. Stop reacting to other people in daily life like you do during our sexy times.’
The punch to his arm is hard, but he sniggers regardless.
Taking another peek out the window told Richie they were getting nowhere, so he exhaled harshly, preparing himself for the worst.
‘Okay, do your best Eds, give it to the speeding brake like I gave it to your mom every night.’
Richie expects a retort back, an angry fuck you maybe, or a middle finger, but instead he is gifted the sight of speechless Eddie, his mouth open in shock.
‘You’re serious?’ He asks, even though Eddie has already made up his mind, and is fastly shifting into speed gremlin mode.
With his head thrown back, Richie releases a loud groan, rumbling from all the way in his chest. ‘Yes, now hurry up before I regret it, lay it all on me Jesus.’
A menacing smirk that threatens to overtake every other feature in Eddie’s face, Eddie presses a short kiss to his mouth, pulling back before Richie even has a chance to reciprocate, and speeds off to the emergency lane on their right side.
Eddie is a monster while driving, which is why it’s Richie that drives most of the time, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
The clocks ticks on unforgivably, striking three pm exact when Richie looks at it, and let that be the exact time when the show is supposed to start.
They’re too late to wish Matt good luck, but at the very least he’ll see both of them in the audience in their designated seats, right next to Myra. If he doesn’t, Richie fears that he might panic.
Driving on the emergency line is highly illegal, but Eddie brushes that aside as he propels his way to the parking lot.
It takes the barely five minutes after that. They got honked at countless of times, but they made it on time, so Richie counts it as a win anyway. Jumping out of the car before it has even come to a complete stop is dangerous, but discarded on the side when they rush inside the school.
The show has started, but Matt was not the first one on, thankfully, so all they’ve missed is the speech that the principal always gives at the beginning of these kind of events, and a kid who thinks she can play the flute, but really all she’s doing in blowing air into the instrument.
Richie claps animatedly anyway, her moment over when they get in, since he knows what it feels like to be laughed at for something you like the do, and she’s also a kid, so she deserves a pass.
Eddie claps too, snorting when he sees the absolute ridiculous movements his boyfriend is making.
‘What the hell are you doing Rich?’
‘I’m just granting this little girl what you and the rest of the losers deprived me off. Validation for my talents.’ Eddie whips around lightning fast, his laugh loud and uninhabited while he raises his middle finger to Richie.
‘Do those talents include humor?’ While they’re talking, both of them carefully tiptoe around other parents and grand-parents, trying to find a way to get to their seats. He nearly steps on someone toes, offering them a short apology and hopes they except it, but he is too busy avoiding every one else to see if they’re angry or not.
‘Well yes of course Edward. You as young lad should have seen the absolute hidden potential that was harvesting in me.’
Eddie laughs so loud that his knees nearly buckle, several people shushing him even though there’s no one left on stage, and they’re waiting for the next person to make an appearance.
‘Oh please, you’re still not funny now what makes you think you were then?’
In their haste, the knowledge that they would have to spend the entire late afternoon with Eddie ex-wife had disappeared off into the background, but then Richie makes eye contact with her, and it back with much vigor.
Richie wants to slouch, dread already pulling him down towards the ground, but he refuses to let Myra drag him down, and he has Eddie with him anyway, so it’s not that bad.
As soon as their eyes meet, Myra, like a cliche, turns her nose up and looks away, acting as if she is the one that is ashamed of them. There are two empty seats next to her, who will be occupied in a second by them, but Richie still searches for another vacant spot, without luck.
It’s ridiculous anyway, since the seat were granted two weeks before today. It’s a mystery to Richie who organized the seating arrangements, but man did they fuck up bad.
Eddie, who is walking in front of him, reaches out to grab Richie’s hand, squeezing two times for strength and asking Richie for protection, despite him not needing any. His not fearful of his former wife, but she gets under his skin, and not in the good way that Richie can, make him struggle to remain his composer.
Remorsefully, Richie says goodbye to his sanity, a polite and cheerful face covering him like a mask, even when all he really wants to do is yell in her face.
He stills Eddie by placing two of his large hands against his arms, effectively stopping him from walking any further, and moves to stand closest to her.
Someone else has made his way on stage, this time the kid is dancing, and his music is loud enough that Richie can speak in a normal voice, which still means he has to keep it down.
He ploughs down in the middle seat, right in between Myra and where Eddie will be in a second, like a wall between the two of them. Eddie shoots him a grateful smile, sitting down in his chair much more gracefully than Richie, with his hands in his lap.
‘Hello Myra,’ Richie greets her, to establish to her that they were not planning on being rude to her. If anyone was going to start a ruckus, it would be her.
‘Richard’, she greets, followed by ‘Edward.’
Hearing his full name sound absolutely ridiculous to Richie, but he ignores to avoid creating an argument, god knows Myra only needed one slam word and she would blow off.
‘Myra’, Eddie too nods at Myra, Richie bites his lips to stop himself from making a fool of the situation, but by the knowing look in Eddie’s eyes, he knows that Eddie knows what he wanted to say.
After the boy, there are two more children, then a group, and then a little girl comes up. Boredom is starting to take it’s toll on Richie, who can’t sit still if it could help save his life, so his knew has been insistently bouncing since the dancing act.
Eddie helps somewhat by hooking his leg under Richie’s, their ankles linked while his hand plays with the bracelet on Eddie’s wrist, made by Matt when he was being babysit by Ben and Bev.
The girl is shaking all the way through her body, the microphone she’s holding swaying dangerously. Her face is ashen white, and she looks about two seconds away from vomiting, which Richie can relate too. Being on stage is scary, especially when you’re that young, a pang of sympathy for the girl embracing him in it’s warm hold.
The song she has chosen to sing was let it go from frozen, but she only made it past 1/4 of the song, when she forgets her lines and makes up her own lyrics.
The lyrics do not make any sense, she’s mostly naming things she can see, ranging from things like curtains, to teachers, the mortification on her face revealing how embarrassed she is.
It’s that that makes Richie stand up resolutely when the final note dies out, leaping to his feet to applaud her as much and as loud as he can.
‘This is I folks, the best act of the night. Nothing can top this. The way that she improvised is a talent that is rarely seen in anyone ever before.’ Richie whoops, preening when other parents join in on the applause, and the little girls face lits up like a Christmas tree.
He’s only half kidding. He’s going to find Matt the best no matter what, call it a part of fatherhood, but the girl was really inventive, and she did not give up. Besides, seeing the tears in her eyes blinked away is enough to make Richie smile in delight.
When everything dies down and he retrieves his seat again, a woman taps him on the shoulder. She’s holding a camera in her hands that she puts away and grins.
‘Thank you. That was my daughter, I can’t tell you how happy this will have made her.’
Richie is touched, but he also can’t take credit for something he has nothing to do with.
‘It was all your daughter ma’am, she’s a natural.’ Eddie presses a kiss to his cheek, conveying what he’s not saying out loud; ‘I’m proud of you.’
‘Are you always like this?’ Myra inquirers curt, her face stuck in a permanent sneer. Eddie tenses beside him, but he won’t allow her to ruin the afternoon before they have even seen the person they came for.
‘What do you mean Sonia?’
‘My name is Myra.’
‘Same difference. Am I always this awesome and funny and caring towards others?’ He’s not being serious, but to Myra that doesn’t matter. She opens her mouth to say something else, but Richie has already turned his back sideways to here, his entire being focused on Eddie when the latter taps on his arm.
Eddie is staring at the stage however, and when Richie follows his gaze, he sees why. It’s now Matt’s turn, the boy scorching over every head in room, until he finally spots Eddie, Richie and Myra and grins from ear to ear.
He never told Eddie nor Richie what his act would be about, saying that it was supposed to be a surprise, so Richie has no idea what to expect.
His clothes, a yellow t-shirt with a cat on it, and blue jeans that look a bit to dirty to be knew does not seem like something Myra would have let him wear. If anything, Richie was expecting to see him in something not unlike a suit.
His suspicion is conformed when he hears Myra complain next to him. ‘That’s not what I dressed him in.’
‘Hi, my name is Matt, and today I’m going to be telling you a bunch of jokes my pops taught me.’
Even though Richie will adamantly deny it, and Eddie will confirm it to anyone who asks, Richie starts crying.
He hasn’t even heard any of the jokes, but he already loves them and he loves him.
‘Jean goes on a walk with grandma in the park’, Matt begins his story, ‘and on the way back from the park, he sees a banana peel. When he goes to pick it up, his grandma tells him that he can’t do that, because everything that’s on the ground is dirty and he shouldn’t touch it. Two days later, Jean and his grandma go back to the park, and his grandma trips over the banana peel. When jean’s grandma asks him to help her up, Jean says that he can’t do that, because everything that’s on the ground is dirty, and he can’t touch it.
It’s not even that funny, but Richie loses his shit regardless. The laughter pours out of him relentlessly, making him shake from trying to hold it in.
When Matt thanks the audience for listening, indicating that his act has come to an end, Richie still can’t stop cackling. Eddie is in the same state as him, holding his stomach like it’s hurting and actual tears stream down his cheeks. They’re a stark contrast to Myra, who’s sour look has only worsened, and is just clapping politely like the rest of the parents.
Matt has never been prouder of himself, bowing once and then waving while he gets of the stage, just like Richie does.
When he gets himself under control, a few children later, Myra is has yet to stop her dead glare which is pointed his way.
‘Pops? He calls you that? You are not his father, you’re nothing but filth that has corrupted my Eddie bear and my son. A boy should spend more time with his mother, not with a confused father he thinks his’, she chokes over the words. ‘gay.’
Richie is stricken, hurt despite him knowing that that is just the person Myra is. A hurt emotion that he tries to keep under wraps at all times peaks it’s head up from the darkest part of his soul, but before it has any chance to come up and out, his head is turned, and Eddie connects their lips.
It’s a bit messy, Eddie having knocked his lips on the first area he could find, causing the kiss to be a little off balance, while he brushes at the nap of Richie’s neck. Richie replies by setting his arm on top of Eddie thigh, not high, just above the knee.
They’re in the same position as they were in when they shared their first kiss, and it makes Richie a little dizzy with love and devotion.
Eddie pulls back first, chuckling when he sees the hazy look Richie’s eyes have, and then steels his expression to address Myra.
‘I’m not confused. I’m gay, and yes Matt calls Richie pops, because he wants too, not because we asked him too. Why don’t you wake up Myra? Neither Richie not I are trying to replace you. You’re his mom, no one can do that, but if you continue to be disregard him, he might not be as friendly in the future.’
Then, Eddie stands, pulling Richie up with him, who still dreamily is unaware off what’s happening, his brain not being up to speed yet.
‘Come on Dickwad, pull you head out of your ass, we’ll wait outside until Matt comes.’
He shifts his gaze to Myra; ‘I’ll see you in two weeks.’
Outside, Richie laughs breathlessly. ‘I can’t believe you just did that in front of all these people.’
It’s still insanely warm, but it gets ever warmer when Eddie leans up, and presses his forehead to Richie’s.
Suddenly, Richie is transported back to many summers ago, when Eddie and him were still kids and they had yet to confess their feeling for one another. They shared a moment like that one too, where it was so hot yet they still huddled together.
Richie had thought then that that would be the peak of his life, smelling the scent of warm water and grass, and Eddie colon that stuck to every piece of clothes item he was wearing.
He was wrong, adding Matt to the equation, made it only better.
They must have been there for a long time, but Richie was unaware of that, until he heard Matt call out to them.
‘Dad, Pops, I missed you.’
He leaps into Eddie’s awaiting arms, just small enough for Eddie be able pick him up, while Richie envelops both of them in his arms.
‘We missed you too bud.’ We’ve missed you our entire lives.

Family Fights - Chapter Twelve
Summary: Even the strongest bond, the most loving family, can be broken by nightmares, and the librarian is soon to learn this. As she learns sinister things about a person who she had thought was lost forever, she realizes she will need the help of another witch to get her family back.
Notes: Another short chapter but this time I’m proud because I wrote all of it in a single day! Also I’m going to take part in my country’s Student Science Olympics today, so wish me luck!
(chpt1) (chpt2) (chpt3) (chpt4) (chpt5) (chpt6) (chpt7) (chpt8) (chpt9) (chpt10) (chpt11) (chpt12)
Biting wind turned her cheeks pink, the sun quickly dying out as Maven stood under the trees of the Huldrawoods. Aside from draping her cape over her shoulders, she hadn’t changed the clothes she’d worn all day. There hadn’t been any time. As soon as Alfur had declared that the Thunderbird knew where her sister lived, she’d hurried to fetch him a map so that he could point out exactly where he’d seen her.
It felt like she’d been moving in a haze. She was certain that she’d told Hilda to stay safely in her house, but everything else she’d done in the last few minutes seemed like a dream from which she’d only waken up when she arrived at the spot the Thunderbird had circled. Now, as she looked at the ramshackle tend that had been built between two tall pines, she felt her clouded mind becoming clearer, making her cringe at her own impulsivity. In her haste, she hadn’t even brought anything to protect herself with. Now, however, she was too close to back away.
Her hands clutched her cape tighter around herself as she walked closer. As warm as the day had been, dusk was bringing about an unexpected chill, which combined with the fear and anticipation running up and down her spine, did not result in a pleasant sensation at all.
The tent was livable, but only barely. It leaned against one of the trees, and wooden stakes helped keep it upright. One single cutting of cloth made the ceiling and the walls. Whichever magic the marra had, it was no use in construction, it seemed. This tent was only a little better than the ones she and her sister would build as children.
Maven couldn’t sense her sister inside, so she found the area where the cloth had been cut to allow passage and allowed herself in. Once inside, the first thing she noticed was the abrupt change in temperature. In contrast with the cold outside, the tent could easily have had modern heating, and she attributed that to the oil lamp which hang from one of the stakes. Though judging from the green fire that burned inside, it was more likely that the lamp ran on magic rather than oil.
The shelter was very clearly Myra’s. The makeshift pallet bed wasn’t made the usual way. Instead, the blanket has been folded and put on top of the pillow, like her sister liked to do. The hairbrush that seemed to have been thrown on the floor without a care had no strands of hair in it, and Maven remembered how insistent Myra was in cleaning her hairbrush after every use.
Emboldened by these discoveries, Maven set out to look for more signs of Myra’s presence. She did find enough reasons to be certain that she lived there, but was also concerned by the lack of basic necessities in the tent. She could find no food at all, even though she knew her sister to snack a lot during the day, and the complete absence of clothes reminded her of how Myra had been wearing the same clothes as years ago when Maven last saw her.
Those things could probably be due to the marra’s magical nature. Though they looked like everyone else, Maven thought she would do well not to forget that they weren’t human, and thus probably didn’t have the same necessities as them.
It was when Maven was going over a notebook she’d found, apparently filled with descriptions of nightmares her sister had inflicted on people, that she heard a gasp from the entrance of the tent. Startled, she dropped the notebook and turned around to find Myra herself staring at her with shock on her features.
Both of them were paralyzed for long moments, doing nothing but staring at each other in incredulity until Myra shook her head like she was trying to wake up from a dream.
“What are you doing here?!” She shouted. Remembering that she shouldn’t consider herself safe just because this was her sister, Maven took a deep breath, gathering magic on her fingertips in case she needed to defend herself.
It took her long to find an answer. She hadn’t even thought about what she would accomplish by going after her immediately, she’d just been driven by the urge to see with her own eyes that Myra had somewhere to stay. That she was alive and well.
“I came to find you.” She said eventually, debating whether or not to raise her hand to her sister. She wanted to touch her, find proof that she was really there, really in front of her, but she knew it wouldn’t be welcomed. Myra continued looking skeptically at her, her body locked with tension.
“I wanted, I want to bring you home. You don’t need to stay here, Myra. Come back with me. I can forgive everything.”
Maven could pinpoint the exact moment when her sister went from mistrustful to furious. Green shone in the depths of her eyes and her fists balled as she bared her teeth.
“You can forgive everything?! Nothing about you changed, Maven. You really do still think that everything is about you.”
Before Maven could think up a spell to summon, Myra sent out tendrils of green magic in her direction. They seized her arms and legs, leaving a burning sensation in the spots where they curled around her limbs. When the marra made a sharp gesture with her hand, the tendrils send Maven flying out of the tent, hitting the ground outside painfully.
Groaning because of the impact, Maven tried to sit up as Myra chuckled at her.
“How pathetic. Why would I want to go back to being this meek?”
“Myra… this isn’t you. They have twisted your mind, haven't they? Please, sweetie, our parents-”
“Can’t you get this?!” The marra interrupted her, her magic feeding off of her anger and making her levitate inches above the ground as she spoke, in a way that soon she was leaning over Maven menacingly “I don’t care about mum, dad, or you! You are all weak, and I’m over you!”
“If you’re really over us, why haven’t you cursed some poor widower to take you in? Convinced a couple that you’re their child?” Maven said with as much strength as she could. Some time ago, she’d be mad to hear those words coming from her sister’s mouth. She’d seethe and cry out her hypocrisy, but it felt like something had changed in her. She’d come so close to failing Hilda that she could now see all the ways in which she’d failed her her sister. Not in not being able to stop her from becoming a nightmare spirit, but way before that.
The only effect her words seemed to have was to make Myra more angry, and she growled in a way that Maven was sure no human could. Nevertheless, Maven continued.
“Why live like someone who’s lost their home if you say we weren’t yours?”
“I should kill you!” She shouted, but Maven knew her too well. Those were nothing but empty words, and she didn’t believe the Marra even had enough power to murder someone. Not a trained witch, at least. Surely enough, when Myra realized that Maven was neither going to press her further nor plead for mercy, her fury deflated enough that her sister could see the reluctance in her eyes.
“But I’ll give you this chance to run. Go away and never come for me again!”
Maven shook her head.
“I can’t do that. I can’t leave you alone.”
Rolling her eyes, Myra sent out a burst of magic at Maven’s head. It made her vision spin and her mind feel hazy, and she collapsed against the floor once more.
“It wasn’t a question, idiot.”
_#_#_#_
“Maven!” Her eyes began to open as she felt someone shaking her shoulders. Everything was dark, and the first thing she was able to see was a head of blue hair.
“Oh dear, is she alright?” Another voice squeaked. She knew that voice, but her mind was so clouded she couldn’t link it to anyone.
“That was a really nasty spell. She might take a few minutes to regain consciousness.”
“‘M fine.” She drawled, trying to make sense of the situation. “Hilda? Is that you?”
The girl nodded and smiled nervously.
“Yes! Don’t worry, we’ll help you.”
The girl spent a few minutes trying to aid Maven to her feet, aided by a bird who the librarian soon remembered to be Hilda’s friend. The elf was also with them, unable to help but watching the scene from Hilda’s hair.
“Well, you seem to be recovering quickly.” The Thunderbird said when they began walking away from the Huldrawoods. Maven realized she’d woken up at the same spot she’d been before, but Myra was no longer there. “You are made of tough stuff, I’ll give it to you.”
“My own magic must have protected me. But I was lucky you were around to help me. ” She said, wishing that the magic would have protected her from heartbreak as well.
Maven stopped walking abruptly, turning to Hilda with crossed arms.
“And why were you around? I told you to stay at the house.”
“I couldn’t let you go alone.” To her credit, Hilda did at least look ashamed, fidgeting with her feet. “But I did stay hidden.”
Sighing, the librarian continued walking. “As long as you don’t tell this to your mother.”
“I promise.” She assured, content not to be lectured about safety and following orders. “She should be home by now. Why don’t you come over and drink something? You must need it.”
She raised her gaze to the night sky, now completely dark. The trees got on her way, making it so she wasn’t even able to take comfort in the calming sight of the moon. When she lowered her eyes again, she noticed Hilda shivering as she looked at her. The girl was still wearing the same clothing they’d worn to the beach.
Raising her hands to her neck, Maven unclasped her cape and draped it over her, hoping it was warm enough that she wouldn’t be cold anymore. When Hilda sent the librarian a questioning stare, she only shuddered and made a fireball appear on her hand, a source of both warmth and light to guide them.
“I have no better plan.”

Mermen were rare. Myra didn’t know a single person who knew a merman, except herself and Bo now. Her amber eyes scrutinized the street as they approached her apartment building. “Uh, well, I haven’t thought that far ahead, really. Right now I’m just thinking we get to the east coast, maybe somewhere north. So if we have to we can travel up into Canada if they follow us that far away.”
Myra turned to glance at Avery, “Don’t worry though, I’ve got th-” She was interrupted by the screeching of tires on the asphalt street. The multiple vans leaving black road marks in their haste to stop beside them. “RUN!” Myra shouted, throwing the groceries she held at the first van, hitting the man who was exiting the passenger side. She took off, pulling Avery along with her and trusting Bo to keep up. The dhampyr had trained for situations like this everyday since they were five. It was Avery Myra worried about.
“Skip going up into my apartment, we’re going straight behind the building to my car and we’re leaving.” The extra licenses plates were in the trunk, so they could change it once they were free of these goons. Due to it being mid day, the guards from the lab weren’t shooting at them, but they were quickly approaching the building they were running to.
“Don’t fight. Just run!” Myra ordered, not wanting the merman to get any ideas about using his powers here in the open. They also wouldn’t be able to win. The lab had sent a lot of bodies to come after them.
@avereyeus
Bo had disappeared 6 weeks ago. It had taken that long for Myra to find the trail and follow it to San Diego. Myra hadn’t expected to find it was a private lab that had taken Bo and not some nest of vampires. It was almost a relief, if it wasn’t so unsettling that humans may be kidnapping dhampirs. The 25 year old half vampire, fully loaded with all her favorite weapons: a wooden stake on her thigh (just in case there were vampires after all), a small sized sickle on her right hip (a joke based on her reputation within the vampire community. Dea Tacita goddess of death), a small hand gun in a holster on her waist, and a few small daggers, just in case.
It was dark, unfortunately she had to do this at night for stealth, and she approached the building quickly and confidently sticking to the shadows. She wore all black; black hoodie with the hood covering her mane of dark curls, black leather pants, and black combat boots. It wasn’t long before she had the lock picked, this obviously wasn’t a very wealthy, well known, or high tech lab. Lucky for her. What made her feel better as she silently walked the halls, wary of any guards or workers, was that there weren’t many people in any of the glass cages. She did pass one larger container that had a pool of dark water in it, the lights in the cage off. She thought she saw something moving in the water but couldn’t be sure. Myra soldiered on. Eventually they found their friend. No words were said, they knew they had to be silent to avoid any attention. The brunette eventually figured out how to get the cage open and unfortunately it was shooting the lock. They had less than five minutes to get out, Myra was guessing.
They hurried back the way the young dhampir had came from, quickly skidding to a halt when Myra’s amber eyes landed on what looked like the shape of a man in the dark pool they’d passed before.
“We can’t leave anyone here, it would be cruel.” Bo pointed out.
“I know, I know. Just...be lookout and don’t get caught again.” Myra quickly shot through this lock as well and entered the cage, not even considering for a moment that this creature could be hostile.
“Uh, hey, hopefully you speak English or this is going to be even more complicated, but lets go. Unless this is like a Hilton for you and you love it. Doesn’t look that nice though.” Myra pointed behind them with their thumb. “I’m Myra by the way. You can thank me kindly with a drink when I get you out of here.”

TWO YEARS LATER
Eddie Kaspbrak cringed as the stench of the place hit his nose. He turned his face away and tried to discreetly press the sleeve of his sweater to face to ward it away. Kay McCall turned to face him and grabbed hold of his arm. “What have I been telling you?” She said sharply. “Stop passing judgement before you’ve experienced anything.”
Eddie rolled his eyes. In the two years since he’d walked away from his relationship with Myra- or more accurately, forced her to walk away from it- Eddie had grown to accept that part of him he was sure he’d been running away from since his youth. There were dim, blurry memories of being a kid with sweaty hands and a pounding heart but he could never touch them. Sometimes, in his dreams, Eddie was sure he did- but they were gone when he woke up, leaving only a vague feeling of yearning left behind.
He’d met Kay McCall nearly a year and a half earlier at the community center when Eddie had been having meetings to help with some ongoing mental health issues. It seemed that over decades of repression couldn’t just be turned off by coming out of the closet and ran much deeper. Kay had been an irreplaceable piece of Eddie’s self acceptance. Without her persistence that Eddie go out, that Eddie experience all these positive things, Eddie didn’t doubt for a second that he would have been sitting alone every weekend for the last two years.
And he hadn’t been, that was a beautiful thing. Eddie had gone out, he’d gone to clubs and bars and parades. He’d painted his body in neon colours and danced under black lights. He’d had a few short lived relationship with men Eddie would have allowed himself to look twice at before. Eddie had come to trust Kay blindly in every activity she suggested. Until tonight.
“I fucking hate comedians.”
“So you keep saying,” Kay said. “But you refuse to give me any sort of reasonable explanation to why that is, so I’ve chosen to continue to ignore you.”
Eddie shook his head, and scowled at the ground. He wasn’t entirely how to begin to explain his animosity towards comedians. How could he explain the broken, faded memory of a comedian, a hotel room and a name that always seemed to be on the tip of his tongue?
“I’m only doing this for your stupid date.” Eddie said stubbornly. “You say this girl is the real deal, and I’m choosing to believe you. This better be serious.”
Kay rolled her eyes. It was, of course. Eddie knew that Kay had had many partners since they’d become friends, some lasting for weeks and Eddie possibly even getting a name, but Kay had never - not once- invited Eddie to meet one of her girlfriends before now.
“I don’t know anything about this guy. I Googled him, he’s some white dude. Reggie or something. Very mixed reviews.” Kay said simply. “Beverly seems to think he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to comedy, and I’m letting her pick the date so here we are.”
Eddie raised his brow but knew better than to say anything. Kay grabbed Eddie by the arm and didn’t so much guide him through the crowd as yanked him. This was fine. This was used to and expected. What wasn’t expected was the soft, almost bashful smile when a short, redhead girl pushed her way through the crowd and ran up to them.
‘Hey,” she said, almost out of breath. She and Kay held long eye contact until Eddie cleared his throat. When Beverly turned and met Eddie’s gaze, his breath caught suddenly in his throat and he wondered for the first time in many years if he’d need to use his inhaler. Beverly’s eyes blew wide for a moment, her mouth opened then clapped back shut just as suddenly. She seemed to almost shake herself, then offered her hand out.
“Beverly.” She said with a sweet smile. “My friends can call me Bev.”
“Eddie.” Eddie shook her hand quickly, and Beverly didn’t say anything when Eddie immediately pulled a small bottle of hand sanitizer from his jeans pocket. “Tell me more about this bozo, but Kay is not convincing at all.”
“I understand the skepticism.” Beverly said as she draped an arm around Kay’s shoulders. Eddie watched for a moment and waited for Kay to shrug her touch off, but no rejective motion happened. “But trust me, this guy Richie is actually good. He’s come a long way in the last couple years, and I don’t know, he talks about chicks a lot but I get a bit of a gay vibe-”
Eddie’s hearing buzzed out, brain seemed to float right out of his ear and out of the bar. Richie… comedian… his heart was suddenly at risk of exploding right out of his chest. He pressed his hand against his hand to his chest, able to feel his heartbeat through his shirt and sweater. Blurry memory began to ring into focus.
“I fucking hate comedians.” Eddie lied under his breath. Nobody listened. They moved to their seats that was being held by a tall, thin man with blonde hair that seemed to already be balding at the top and an orange stain on his shirt. Eddie stopped and turned to the two women.
“I didn’t agree to a double date.” Eddie said sharply. “Especially not a blind, surprise double date.”
Beverly glanced away, biting at her thumb nail but Kay held Eddie’s gaze without a flinch. “Eddie. You haven’t been laid in what- four months? Just give him a chance.”
Eddie glanced back at his supposed date and watched as wiped snot from his nose on the sleeve of his hoodie. Eddie and Bev pulled mirrored looks of disgust. “Not fucking happening.”
“Sorry.” Beverly said quietly to him. “He was kind of the only person available and Kay didn’t tell me until tonight that she wanted a date for you and-”
“And you don’t have to fuck that guy, because he’s pretty disgusting.” Kay broke in with exasperation. Eddie glared at him. “But are you getting some tonight, I’m going to make sure of it.”
Eddie thought of how his stomach had been in butterflies since he’d heard Richie’s name, and how his face was still burning, and wasn’t so sure that was going to be an issue. The lights began to dim before Eddie could give any sort of response, negative or positive, and they all quickly moved to their seats. Eddie silently thanked a God he wasn’t sure he believed in that there wasn’t time to introduce him to the dirty date before the show began.
In complete honesty, Eddie couldn’t tell you much about the show itself. He thought at one point, he’d noticed that Richie’s jokes had gotten better than what he’d listened to years before but he didn’t have enough memory of the old stand up to be sure. It still wasn’t good by any means, but the crowd seemed to eat it up. He thought maybe Richie seemed a little more passionate, a little more comfortable, and that made a world of a different even with shitty dirty jokes.
“That guy was hilarious.” Eddie’s “date” said as he wiped the barbeque sauce from their chicken wings his hands on his jeans.
Eddie looked through the crowd at nothing, simply for an excuse to not look at the date he hadn’t bothered to learn the name of. In his haste to keep his eye line away, it took Eddie a moment to realize where it had landed. Not until he realized that he’d accidentally caught the eye of none other than Richie Tozier himself.
Eddie as good as vomited his heart up into his mouth when Richie winked at him. His stomach fluttered and he broke out into a cold sweat across the back of his neck. Richie whispered something to the shorter man by his side- a boyfriend? His manager, maybe- and then he was walking towards them.
“Heya, Eds.” Richie said with an easy grin. “Long time no see.”
Kay turned to Eddie with wide eyes, mouth half open, and Beverly had a confused frown on her face. Eddie wanted the Earth to open up and swallow him whole. “Yep.” Eddie said begrudgingly. “Richie, this is my best friend, Kay, and her friend Beverly.”
“Friend?” Richie challenged as he took and shook Kay’s hand.
She raised her brow at him. “Girlfriend.” She said angrily. “Is that a problem?”
Eddie pursed his lips to hide a smile as Richie let out a soft laugh. “Trust me, ladies. It is the opposite of a problem.”
Beverly gasped and slapped at Richie’s shoulder. “Hey, hey! Careful, Red!” Richie said, but he was laughing. “If security sees you knocking me around, it won’t be too good for you.”
Beverly just laughed at him. “I knew you were gay. I fucking knew it.” An odd expression came over Richie’s face then, and Eddie almost felt bad for him. “We gays have a sense about this. You’ll get there. It comes with coming out.”
Richie’s face blocked them out. “I’m out to the people who matter to me.”
“And portraying yourself as straight asshole for the world to see.” Beverly said with a shrug. “Sure, it’s funny and it sells, but don’t you think it would be more impactful if you were a gay comedian?”
“I AM a gay comedian.” Richie said sharply. “And if I started telling jokes about being gay and fucking men from bars, I’d be an unemployed gay comedian.”
“Hey.” Eddie said softly. His eyes were on Kay and Beverly, put he hoped that Richie could sense that the words he directed at them were for his benefits. “It’s not an easy thing to do. You should know not to push people.”
A silence settled over them, the buzz of the bar behind them, and Eddie began to fidget where he stood. Richie cleared his throat and scratched the back of his neck. “Listen-” he said, pursing his lips. “I’m supposed to go to some sort of big name after party now, stupid publicity garbage.”
Eddie tried not to feel disappointed, but Richie kept talking.
“But that’s not really my thing. I’ve never cared about publicity before.” Richie said with a grin. “So, I’ve got a bunch of better ideas. If you guys are down.”
Beverly’s eyes blew open wide. “For real? Are you serious?”
Richie reached out and pinched Eddie’s cheeks. “Course. Any friends of Eds are friends of mine.” Eddie swatted Richie’s hands away, stubbornly refusing to look at Kay despite how much of an effort she was putting into meeting his gaze.
“Well, hell yeah!” Kay said as she pushed on a dazed Beverly’s shoulders. “Let’s fucking go!”
“Let’s fucking go!” Richie repeated, looking at Kay with a mixture of awe and wariness. Richie wrapped an arm around Eddie’s waist and squeezed his hip once. Then let go quickly, gesturing wildly towards the back door. Richie walked towards it and Beverly began to immediately skip after him, her face light up like that of a child.
Kay turned slowly to Eddie, brows raised and a soft smirk settled on her lips. “So… does he have anything to do with you hating comedians?”
Eddie frowned. Did he? Eddie hadn’t thought about Richie Tozier since… well, probably since Richie had gotten on that plane in New York that same day. He had vague memories of meeting a guy in a bar who prompted his spilt from Myra, a weird twinge in his stomach that told him it was the best sex he’d ever had, but until tonight he hadn’t been able to put that memory to a face. But now? Yeah. That face was Richie Tozier. But Eddie didn’t hate that experience, not at all, it was a good one. A life changing one. Not one that prompted hatred or hard feelings.
“No.” Eddie said with a roll of his eye. “I hate comedians because they make their living being not funny about minorities and as a marginalized person,-”
“Alright.” Kay tossed an arm around Eddie’s shoulders and started guiding him towards the back door. “We all get it. You’re a big-time activist now, we did a good job with you, Kaspbrak. Now our next task is getting you to let your hair down.”
“My hair is always down.” Eddie said with a smile. Kay bounced on her toes and kissed him on the cheek. They pushed out the back door at Eddie’s mouth dropped open at the sight of the limo parked out back. Beverly was inside, her head poking out the sun roof. Richie was leaning against the car door, smoking.
“Hasn’t anybody ever told you those things will kill you?” Eddie asked, knowing his voice was all too cheerful. Richie looked up at him and grinned.
“With the lifestyle I live?” Richie asked with a wave of his head. “Something is going to kill me long before my smoking habits do.”
Eddie didn’t like the twinge that settled in his stomach at Richie’s joke and he forced a smile. Richie clasped Eddie on the shoulder and he helped usher Eddie into the back. Kay dove in after them, and Eddie found himself pressed right up against Richie’s side. He could feel the heat radiating off him and Eddie’s heart began to race in his chest. He fought the urge to lean up against him completely, telling himself that he needed to maintain at least the slightest hint of dignity in this situation.
Beverly kept her head out the sun roof for the first several minutes of the ride, and her hair was a bird’s nest when she dropped back inside, grinning from ear to ear. Eddie couldn’t help back grin back. “So where are we going?” Beverly asked, messing with her hair in a furitious attempt to tame the mess. “Never did tell us.”
Richie let out a long, exhale of smoke from the joint between his fingers and grinned lazily at her. “You get into car’s with strangers and it takes you nearly fifteen minutes to ask where they’re taking you?”
Beverly shrugged, still grinning. “I’d get in anybody’s limo, stranger or not.”
Richie shook his head, eyes half open. He offered the joint over to Eddie, who’s breath caught in his throat. “Oh, no, I have-”
“ASTHMA, ASSHOLE.” Eddie cried, smacking at Richie’s shoulders. Richie laughed, and fell backwards against the dirt and grass. They were sitting up at the top of the Quarry, feet dangling over the edges, as the sun went down in front of them. Richie had been working at a joint for the better part of a couple minutes, and Eddie had been choosing to ignore it until Richie had offered it over to him.
“I think we both know that you don’t.” Richie replied, and there was something all too appealing about Richie when he was high. Eddie supposed he always found Richie appealing, though he’d never admit it to another living, breathing human (and certainly not to Richie) but the way Richie almost seemed to turn into lower power mode when he was high just held Eddie’s interest so intensely. It was Richie he was still getting to know, barely beginning to understand. And that captivated him.
“Put that shit out.” Eddie demanded. “Put it out or I swear to God I’ll throw it over the edge.”
“Oh, really? And you’ll buy me more then.” Richie said and waggled his eyebrows. “For all you know, Eds, this could be all I’ve got left.”
“I don’t care how much you have!” Eddie cried. “And I would not be buying you more because it’s illegal and you shouldn’t even have this in the first place, you know? You know all about the health risks just as well as I do!”
“Nobody knows any health risks as well as you do, Eddie Kaspbrak.” Richie pointed out, before taking another hit of the joint. Eddie watched his lips intently as the smoke blew out through him and he tried to force his heart race to slow down. This was a new feeling for Eddie, over the last few months. Richie doing little things that made Eddie feel like he’d just run a marathon. It was harder to pretend that Richie Tozier didn’t affect him deeply.
“You know things people tell you about health is bullshit, though.” Richie continued, but Eddie was a little more focused on Richie’s fingers pulling on his own bottom lip as though he’d just remembered he had one. His legs and hands kept occasionally twitching and Eddie’s eyes followed the motion each time. “It’s just what the man wants you to think. Weed is good for us, and they want to keep it from us because they can’t make money off it.”
“You’re such a fucking a stoner, Rich, oh my God.” Eddie rolled his eyes but he couldn’t help the little giggles that were building up in his chest.
“So you really aren’t going to have any? Not even for me? Your bestest friend?” Richie held the joint out towards Eddie, and spending so much time with Richie, Stan and Beverly the smell of the weed didn’t bother him as much as it used to. That fact made him uneasy.
“Bestest isn’t a word.” Eddie replied, turning his eyes back to the sky.
Richie scoffed. “Oh, okay. Whatever. You aren’t gonna have any at all? Eddie? Eds? Ed-”
“Earth to Eddie!” Kay’s voice suddenly caught through his mind.
Eddie jumped in the seat, suddenly aware that the limo was moving and Richie was still holding the joint out in his direction. Eddie looked slowly over Richie’s face, his heart hammering in his chest and his brain reeling to find a grasp on reality. Real or not real. “What?” He asked, voice coming out almost a hoarse whisper.
“Do you want a hit?” Richie asked him lazily, the paper burning and wasting between his fingers has he watched Eddie.
“No, I have-” Eddie broke off again, brain buzzing inside his head and heart picking the pace back up.
Richie raised his eyebrows. “Have what?”
Eddie cleared his throat and reached his fingers out for Richie’s joint. “Nothing. Give it to me.” Richie handed it over willingly and as Eddie put the joint between his lips, something deep inside told him that this wasn’t his first time smoking weed.
Richie patted his back, and made soothing sounds as Eddie coughed and his chest burned. “It’s alright, dude. The more you cough, the higher you get.”
A familiar phrase. Familiar. A word that Eddie Kaspbrak would like to stop applying to Richie Tozier, because it never failed to make him feel on edge. Before Eddie could feel anything besides the tightness in his chest, the limo was suddenly taking a left and skidding across something that felt much more like dirt than any real road.
“Where are we going?” Beverly asked, from where she’d draped herself across Kay’s lap once returning inside from the sun roof. Eddie thought that maybe this weed was laced with something, because there was no way Kay McCall was just letting some girl lay in her lap and there was zero possibility that she was actually running her fingers through the girl’s long red hair. And yet-
“We’re not going anywhere.” Richie said with a grin. He popped the back door of the limo open before the vehicle had slowed to a complete stop, and Eddie rested his head against the seat of the limo to watch him. “We’re already here.”
Eddie tumbled out the limo on Richie’s tail, with Kay and Beverly following and whispering behind them. Eddie squinted out the darkness around him, unaware that he was leaning against Richie’s side. “Central Park after dark? So you’ve taken us here to be murdered?”
Richie let out a little awkward half-laugh, hand unconsciously going to spread around the small of Eddie’s back. “Nothing so sinister as that.” Richie said. “Just that most of the times I’ve spent in New York have been spent in a bar or in a hotel room.”
Eddie’s face burned, but even more than embarrassment over Richie speaking of the night they’d spent together, Eddie felt a weird sense of jealousy of the verbal acknowledgment of other people being with Richie like he had been. Before him, and worse, after him. Eddie knew perfectly well that he couldn’t be mad that Richie had slept with people before they’d met, and he had even less right to be mad about Richie may or may not had slept with after their literal one night stand. He had been the one to say no, to go home and ignore what he’d also felt.
Eddie shivered almost violently as he walked through the grass, knowing it was getting his shoes wet and likely ruining them completely. Oh well, Richie’s career was starting to really take off- Eddie could bill him for new shoes. Something fancy and expensive no doubt. He could afford it.
Arms wrapped around Eddie’s middle and he startled as he looked down at Kay, who grinned back up at him. “Oh, Miss Kay gets cuddly when high? Nice to know.”
She laughed, and squeezed Eddie’s middle until he coughed then released him. She turned away and moved over to Beverly, taking her back the face and kissing her deeply. Eddie frowned awkwardly to himself, and turned back towards the dark park. He felt Richie walk up beside him but he didn’t turn to look at him.
“You know, it’s kind of weird.” Richie said, but he wasn’t looking at Eddie either. “Until I saw you tonight, I don’t think I even remembered you. Which makes me sound like an absolute monster, but-”
“Nah, don’t worry about it.” Eddie said lightly. “I didn’t remember you, either. At least not… specifically. I remembered an intense dislike for comedians, but it wasn’t you that I remembered. Until your show started at least.”
Richie snorted and took a drag of a cigarette. Eddie watched the smoke flow through the dark, and tried to pretend he thought it was gross rather than attractive. “Don’t know why you’re walking around hating comedians. You’re the one who ripped my heart out at an airport, all I did was give you some sweet, sweet loving.”
Eddie made a rough noise at the back of his throat. “You sprialled my entire gay crisis and prompted me to have to change my entire life. I think I deserve a little bit of resentment here, man.”
“Man, I met you at a gay bar. I don’t think I started anything. You were already on your way there yourself.” Richie laughed. “Besides, don’t you feel better now? Rather than marrying some chick because you thought you had to, and playing the role of some straight husband when you were really miserable and craving some good dick. I think you owe me a thank you, actually.”
Eddie shook his head and finally turned to Richie. “You’re right. Thank you, Trashmouth, for being just hot enough that I confessed fully to myself that I wanted to suck dick.”
Richie grinned at him. “Well, you’re here with me now, aren’t you? There must be something about me you like. Besides the fact that I have a dick.”
“You also have a limo, and I didn’t have anything better to do tonight.” Eddie said slowly, letting the words roll off his tongue. Richie continued to look at him, head tilted with a goofy smile on his face. “Did it… I’m not going to apologize for not getting on a plane with a stranger that day. I still think I made the right call.”
“Yeah, you probably did.” Richie said slowly. “I knew that even as you did it, but Eds… God, I still can’t shake the feeling that I knew you. That we’re somehow supposed to meet.”
Eddie didn’t say anything, keeping his eyes on Richie as Richie dropped his cigarette and crushed into the ground. Eddie didn’t even lecture him on the littering, waiting for Richie to finish whatever train of thought he was going down. “And what are the odds that your best friend would just so happen to drag you to see that comedian who asked you to drop your life for him two years ago? On the one night I performed at a small bar for nearly a year. Come on, that can’t be coincidence, Eds.”
“You’re a believer in the universe, I admire that.” Eddie said dryly. “You’ll ask a stranger to run away with you after one night. It’s sweet and it’s insane. Sometimes coincidences do exist.”
Richie looked at him, face suddenly somber. He reached out and took Eddie’s hand in his. Eddie tried to ignore the electric shock it sent running through him. “It’s not just any stranger, you know. There’s something about you, Eddie Kaspbrak. And I think, for you, there’s something about me, too.”
“Maybe.” Eddie agreed. “But I still don’t know you, you don’t know me. Our lives are so different, it’s like we have anything in common or even live on the same side of the country. We ran into each other twice in two years. That’s not exactly some great romance story.”
“It could be if we let it be.” Richie said wistfully. “But don’t fret, Eds. I’m not asking you to run away with me this time. I tried that, but it didn’t work. I don’t offer up potentially life changing decisions to the same dude twice, no matter how drawn I am to him.”
For whatever reason, disappointment settled itself in Eddie’s stomach. He’d already worked himself up, gotten himself ready to tell Richie no, and to find that Richie wasn’t going to ask was a let down. Why he wanted Richie to ask him, he had no idea. Probably the same reason he had no idea why he was more comfortable around Richie Tozier than he was around people he’d known most of his life.
Richie turned around and grinned at Kay and Beverly, who were running through the park fountain. “You’ve got a good thing going here. Much better than last time I met you. Good people in your life. You shouldn’t turn your back on that, and I don’t even want you, too. Like you said- you don’t even know me. And maybe I don’t know you. But they-” he gestured to Eddie’s friends. “They’re good people. Keep them around.”
“I plan to.” Eddie said, throat suddenly dry. “You’re good people, too, Rich.”
Richie turned to look at him, a soft smile on his face. “Thought you said you didn’t know me.”
Eddie shrugged one shoulder. “I’m good at reading people. You put on some big show, but you’re the kind of person who’d stopped to pet a cat no matter how late he was running… and he believes in romance. Soulmates. You’ll find yours, Richie. Someday.”
Richie let out a loud sigh as something in his suit pocket started beeping loudly. He rolled his eyes. “My team has officially realized that I haven’t made it back to my hotel yet. They’ve got me on a tight lease these days.” He held his hand out and Eddie took it without a second thought. “Hey, ladies! If you want a ride back, let’s move it.”
Beverly and Kay stumbled into limo, giggling, and Eddie tried to ignore their kisses as Eddie gave Richie the directions to Kay’s apartment- and Richie gave the directions to his driver. It wasn’t a super far drive, the streets of New York surprisingly calm as they drove through. Eddie kept his eyes trained out the window, and his hand resting on Richie’s bouncing knee.
He watched Beverly and Kay tumble back out of the limo outside Kay’s apartment and moved to follow them, but Richie’s hand wrapped around his wrist. Eddie turned back to him, and his heart fluttered as Richie leaned forward and tucked a piece of paper into the front pocket of Eddie’s jeans.
“If you ever find yourself wondering about the universe,” Richie said, his voice cracking through a dry throat. “Give me a call. I think I’ll be seeing you again, Eddie Kaspbrak.”
Eddie reached out, cupped the side of Richie’s face and kissed him deeply. He let their foreheads press together for a moment before pulling back and climbing out of the limo. He watched the limo drive off until it completely disappeared from view.

Double Crossing, Bird Bother, and a Total Idiot...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (14th-18th October 2019)
Mercedes and Liam’s hit and run secret was almost exposed this week when Joel discovered the message left on Harry’s phone. At the start of the week, Breda decided that, as he’d been such a good boy, Tony could have some of Harry’s possessions. However, when she caught him trying to sneak Harry’s phone, Breda took them away again. Later, in her haste to keep the items hidden from Goldie, Breda accidentally dropped the phone in The Dog car park, something which she and Goldie surprisingly failed to realise. Joel stumbled across the phone and was shocked to hear the message that Harry had left for Tony, dropping Mercedes and Liam right in it over Grace’s hit and run...
Rather than take the phone straight to the police, Joel, in his infinite wisdom, decided to confront Mercy with it, and told her that he would give her one last night with her family before handing it in. Of course, Mercedes wasn’t going to let that happen and she turned to Liam for help, telling him that she would leave the village with him if he beat Joel up. Liam was only too happy to oblige, however, he was spotted by Cindy following Joel into the alley, and Cindy wasted no time in giving the police his name when Joel was discovered some time later. Joel was rushed to hospital and Mercedes threatened him into handing the phone over, telling him that she would harm Goldie if he ever breathed a word to anyone. Luckily for Mercedes and Liam, Joel agreed, and so Liam was released from custody when Joel told the police that he couldn’t be certain who had beaten him up. Back in the village, Liam was busy packing his things to leave with Mercedes, however, when he went to meet her at the folly, he was both devastated and furious to discover a letter informing him that she’d never had any intention of leaving Sylver and Bobby...
Meanwhile, it was the week of Liberty’s first scan and she was desperate for Brody and Sienna to make up before the appointment. After Liberty tried, and failed, to glue herself to The Love Boat in protest, Luke offered to help, but instead, set up a party in order to tempt Brody away. Brody ended up kissing Cindy, and Sienna was devastated when she found out. In fact, she was so upset, that she headed straight home to pack her bags, leaving Liberty concerned about what this meant for the baby. Luckily, Sienna was stopped from leaving the village by Brody, after Damon convinced him to give Sienna another chance. The pair made up and headed for the scan, however, they were too late. As Brody and Sienna entered the hospital, they bumped into a tearful Liberty, who informed them that there was no baby.
Elsewhere, Peri discovered Romeo hiding out at the Maalik’s and was shocked to hear that James had hit him. The following day, Peri confronted James over his actions, leaving Marnie and Juliet disgusted. As if things weren’t bad enough for James already, he was later thrown out (of his own flat) by his family when Marnie and Romeo walked in on him shouting at Juliet...
Also this week, Cindy was raging after discovering that a rare bird nesting in The Loft yard meant that she’d be unable to build there. Not to be deterred, Cindy roped Charlie and Leah, who were working on a wildlife project for school, in to help move the bird. However, before the kids were able to come up with a solution, their partnership was under threat when Charlie overheard Leah calling him a nerd. Charlie was hurt by Leah’s words and told her that he’d only partnered with her out of pity, as no-one else wanted to work with a racist’s daughter. Charlie spent the next couple of days ignoring Leah, but the pair eventually made up when Leah presented Charlie with a home-made bird box. Charlie was touched by the gesture and Leah struggled to hide her delight when Charlie agreed to meet up with her before school the following day. Aww!
In other news this week, a delighted Jesse presented Liam with the adoption papers for Iona, but Grace could see that Liam wasn’t 100% sure about signing them. Mitchell remained torn between Cleo and Anita and, finally, with Walter needing a bone marrow transplant, Martine considered starting the search for her long lost child.
5 Things We Learned This Week:
1. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. Oh, Joel, mate. You’re an absolute plonker. When you find out something incriminating, you don’t go straight to the person you’ve got dirt on and tell them, giving them a chance to either do a runner or harm you! You take it straight to the police!
2. Liam is a very dramatic individual. He’s lost Mercedes, and now his life’s over apparently. Liam, we’ve been here before, haven’t we? You said all this when Eva died!
3. Nana McQueen once had a sexy dream about Emmerdale’s Lisa Dingle. Luckily, Lisa’s recent death means we’re spared from a cross-over featuring a live re-enactment.
4. Leah’s not the sharpest tool in box. Lovely idea to make a bird box, not such a great idea to make it out of cardboard!
5. Shredding a terrible mac is very therapeutic.
