Good morning everyone. After a hectic weekend I'm playing catch up and thought although belatedly I would continue with @thebrand_stylist Instagram challenge #mybrilliantbrand. Today's topic is; Where I Find my Inspiration Fortuitously I was working on some beautiful autumnal flowers for a funeral last week, so I can actually produce a photo that reflects all that I'm about! Nature is my inspiration and I love to mix big blowsy English garden flowers with hedgerow finds to reflect the season. Final day of the #mybrilliantbrand challenge @thebrand_stylist . I almost posted every day of the challenge. It was a really great exercise. I feel we should all be comfortable talking about what we do and why we do it. . Writing my blog, working with artists and models, and teaching, has introduced me to amazingly creative people. I am very thankful for that because, as you well know, we creatives can be very much alone in our studios, and it’s not always the best thing. . For me collaboration key, competition is no longer valid. I always appreciate the chance to work with another artist or collaborate on a project, always open to the possibilities. How I build inspiration in to my work. Day 9 #mybrilliantbrand Books. I love to read and as a child checked out stacks of library 📚 books each week. Back then, at our local library, you could check out two or three books at a time. My mother asked them to make an exception and each week I would bring home half a dozen or so....and I read them all. Day 3 of the @thebrand_stylist Instagram challenge #mybrilliantbrand; The Experience I enjoy meeting prospective clients when they turn up for their first wedding consultation. It takes some time but we go through every aspect of the floral arrangements design, colour, style and budget for their big day, following which I'll put together a detailed quote showing photos, suggested seasonal flower varieties and of course a colour palette. Because most of my clients book me at least a year in advance we won't have a huge amount of contact until much closer to the date of their wedding or event, at which point I'll touch base to check numbers and discuss timings etc. From experience most of the changes happened in the 2 weeks prior to the event, which I'm quite used to and take in my stride! Day 2 of the @thebrand_stylist Instagram challenge #mybrilliantbrand; The Magic I Bring I'm sitting here wondering how I can continue to be part of this challenge but duck this particular question! Being a typical self-effacing English woman, self-promotion is extremely uncomfortable... not great I hear you say for someone who runs their own business! I find it hard to accept praise and I'm sure like a lot of other small business owners I'm overly self critical, always giving myself a hard time for what I haven't yet done, rather than giving myself that pat on the back for what I have achieved. So I'm going to slightly sidestep this question and say that I couldn't do it without the hard work of my fantastic team who put up with me. I suppose what I'm happy to admit, is being able to bring a fresh approach to floristry having originally trained in art and fashion and I have to put my hand up to enjoying creating the more theatrical installations, something that says 'wow' to the guests as they walk into a venue. I've only just realised that this coincides with my love of avant-garde fashion and designers who continue to push the boundaries any medium, many of whom continue to inspire me. What inspires me? . I am a light chaser and a time bandit. I am inspired by all forms and types of light, both in everyday life and in the art of others. I steal elements of texture, mood, and atmosphere from centuries of art and architecture, combining them in a way that feels timeless. . But I am most inspired by those I teach and work with. I see determination and drive and the willingness to learn and grow. We are fellow creatives and become friends and continue to inspire each other in so many ways. . I create space for inspiration by allowing ample time in any given month for my own creative process to grow and produce. I give myself time to dream … about new creative photography projects, to make or find necessary props and costumes, and to search new settings and locations. . I allow myself to create freely, to set myself up for maximum creative flow - that super conscious state where amazing things happen and you let go of control. This is the stuff that keeps me going year after year. Aside from the obvious (that she's a marvelous photographer) she's wonderful to work with and has a very calm and collected way about her that immediately put me at ease. We also talked quite a bit prior to the shoot and she was excellent at communicating how things would work as well as what ideas she had (and listening to my far less organized ones, too!) Day 3 of #mybrilliantbrand Today’s Prompt: The experience. What it feels like to work with me. The care I take to create an incredible and memorable client experience. . I want to you feel both capable and knowledgable, because, of course, you are! Whatever you need to accomplish you can absolutely do so. It’s just a matter of learning step by step. I believe anyone can be taught both creativity and technology. Whether we are working on a photo shoot, putting together your first website, or learning how to organize your files, my priority is to help you relax and freely create. This way, we can do our best work and enjoy the process. . This shot was taken at a branding shoot with jewelry designer Sharon Blomgren. I was so happy to see her thoroughly enjoying the process! Monday, Sept 10. #mybrilliantbrand @thebrand_styllist . So excited to begin the My Brilliant Brand Challenge! . Today’s Prompt: The work I do that I’m most passionate about. . As a creative business mentor, I truly love to empower women. Passionate about teaching. I help artists and small business owners with the technical aspects of making a website and creating imagery so they can show up in the world and tell the story of their amazing art. Many creatives find the world of websites and SEO daunting and difficult and need a patient and kind instructor to walk them through it. I am happy to be that person and thrilled to work with so many truly talented individuals. . As an artist, I am passionate about people. I love to capture the nuances of expression and emotion in the women I photograph. I work along with each person to create dreamy experiences unique to the individual. It it such enjoyable “work” and wonderfully fun! . This image was taken at a lifestyle and branding shoot for Rachel Libby @jadembir. We are currently working on a website to showcase the collection of beautiful shawls from around the world she will be offering.
