Updated!! Pixies-Love-Envy Introduction
Tumblr media
About Me
I go by Peach (She/They) but I’m writing under the name A. T. Mitchell
I’m a professional nanny based in the US
I love reading and writing, and I’m a dedicated book collector. I have over 400 books in my library, and my goal is to have 1,000 books.
Writing
I’m using this blog to post about and document the progress of my romance novel. I’m also hoping to get honest opinions about it from people who don’t know me personally.
I’m also writing a portal fantasy and I’m using this blog to document my world building.

Too Sweet Masterlist
Summary: March is an optimistic do-gooder on his way to Redwood University to start his master's degree. He's far from home and misses his brothers deeply, but he still feels like the world is at his fingertips. Cricket is a high school dropout going nowhere fast. Her toxic ex won't leave her alone, and she's deeply unhappy with her job as a bartender at a tavern frequented by Dungeons and Dragons larpers. They can't help but feel drawn to each other, but is he too sweet for her?
I’m uploading completed chapters of the story on Wattpad but it’s just the first draft so I expect when I’m ready to self publish after several drafts it will be VERY different lol.
Read the Story Here

Nights of Chaos Masterlist
Summary: When Andromeda was eighteen her big sister, Orion, mysteriously disappeared. Five years later she’s a private investigator obsessed finding out what happened to her sister. Andy is grasping for straws and is about to give up when she remembers the stories Orion would tell her about a world called Nykhos. Her sister claimed to have a journal that transported her to the other world whenever she wrote in it. She always thought the tales of her sister’s journeys there were made up until she writes in the magical journal and ends up in the fantasy world of her childhood.
It’s just a Narnia-esque idea that still requires a well thought out fantasy world. So, It’s a long ways off from a first draft.

Masterpost of Finished Fanfics, Current WIPs and Future WIPs
Everything listed here is a (mostly) fully formed story with at least some kind of plot going on. I have many, many story concepts in my head that could turn into actual stories, but for the moment, these are the fully formed ones that are most prominently bopping around in my head.
Current Work in Progress (CWIP) = The story I am currently posting or working on as my main wip.
Future Work in Progress (FWIP) = The story I hope to work on next.
I will be separating these by fandom under the cut.
Dadneto/XMCU
1. pictures in my head [COMPLETED] Erik arrives at the school for the first time since he left after X-Men Apocalypse. Peter struggles with becoming comfortable around his father and with the idea of telling him that he’s his son. Also there’s a new Brotherhood that’s forming in the meantime.  2. We don’t talk about Erik (CWIP): Loosely based on Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” song. Not a songfic. It takes a look at Peter and Wanda and their relationship with the concept of their father when they were young. Kind of a Maximoff family character study. Featuring a much bigger Maximoff family with uncles, aunts and cousins.  3. Untitled Dadneto fanfics: Three different fanfics, each focusing on Peter, Wanda and Lorna and their relationships with Erik. Set in the far future where Peter is married to Crystal and Luna is 5 years old.  4. you’re the one I wanna go through time with (CrySilver Romance): A prequel to the above three fanfics focusing on Peter and Crystal’s relationship going from their initial meetings to their marriage and having Luna. It also includes Wanda’s introduction into the XMCU. (Disclaimer: Crystal is much different than her comic book counterpart, and Wanda is not MCU Wanda, she is my own character more based of her comics version.) 5. Untitled Lorna and Peter fanfic: When Lorna shows up at the mansion revealing that Erik is her father, Peter is shocked to find someone in the same situation as him and is glad to have a sister again. Will Lorna be able to convince him to also come clean to Erik? Focuses a lot on Lorna and Peter’s relationship. Wanda is dead rip 6. Untitled First Class AU (FWIP): What if Erik knew about Peter and Wanda and had to babysit them for a day at the mansion while the X-Men are training in First Class? 7. Father and Son: A Dadneto Anthology: This is just a bunch of Dadneto reveals. I have so many different ideas for reveals and I figured I could just put them all in one place since not all of them have turned into fully fledged fanfics.
Miraculous Ladybug
1. The Color of Your Eyes [COMPLETED]: Marinette writes a letter about her date with Adrien to Chat Noir late at night. A songfic. Originally posted on my main blog. 2. A Kitten for Chat Noir: Chat Noir feels lonely and finds himself bonding with an abandoned kitten one snowy night.  3. 20 Questions: Ladybug and Chat Noir decide to reveal their identities and start by playing 20 questions.
Marvel Comics
I do have another sideblog @just-a-local-lunatic where I will be posting most of these first since that is my Marvel Comics sideblog, but I will be reblogging them here.
1. Untitled FrankLuna series: All of the fics listed below are part of this story. Basically it is a long series that will follow Franklin Richards and Luna Maximoff and how they develop and fall in love. 2. Kidnapped...Again [COMPLETED]: Franklin Richards and Luna Maximoff get kidnapped...again. Posted originally on my FrankLuna sideblog.  3. Of Siblings and Sea Monsters: When the Fantastic Four are taken by a sea monster, Franklin and Valeria must enlist the help of Namor the Sub-Mariner.  4. Home Alone: Franklin, Valeria and the Future Foundation get left home alone. Disaster strikes. Obviously.  5. Of Latveria and Libraries: Franklin and his first crush, Sara Jessen, do a school report on Latverian history.
Miscellaneous
1. burning stars: A Narnia/Silver Chair fanfic about Prince Rilian adjusting to life after being rescued by Jill and Eustace and learning how to live and love again.  2. Untitled Jeyna fanfic: A story where Reyna fights Death to get Jason back from the Underworld based on the concepts of myth of Alcestis.  3. Untitled Post TROS Reylo fanfic : Rey goes on a long quest to find a way to bring Ben Solo, the other half of her soul, back to life. Along the way she makes new friends and runs into old ones. Not a retcon of The Rise of Skywalker, mainly canon compliant.  4. In Which Megan Comes To Ingary: Set in the Howl’s Moving Castle book universe and set after the third book, House of Many Ways. About Megan and Howl’s relationship, their past and their future as siblings. Also a bit of mystery around who their father was.
Side Note:
I also have a writing account on Instagram where I write my original stories if you’re interested. Here is a link for it. And here is a link to my AO3.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So if there is a certain story you’d like to ask me about or that you’d like me to write next, please use the ask box! I would love to hear from you!
With all that done, currently, I am in the process of  drafting ‘We don’t talk about Erik’.

WIP Anouncement: Thereafter
As I'm putting the final touch on the first draft of His Impossible Brushstrokes, I've come to realize something important about myself. I like writing, I like it a lot. Ok, not exactly a deep dark secret, that, but it has some implications as to how I'm going to do this one so I figured I should mention that up top.
The thing I came to realize is that the way things are going, I'm going to make what is hopefully one final pass on The Clockwork Boy to shine up the dialog a bit, and while editing is a fine and indeed neccesary part of writing, I have a need to keep writing-writing these days. Speaking from a purely practical standpoint, I also need some way to pace myself, as losing my mind in writing frenzies isn't doing my brain any favors.
So, with that in mind, I have decided to write and release my newest project, Thereafter, myself in the style of serial fiction. I'm going to set up a newsletter service to send my subscribers individual chapers of the series and host the backlogs on some apropriate site, looking like Cohost at the moment. After a period of outlining and writing up character bios, I plan to start at a slow but hopefully manageable clip, releasing two chapters per month, possibly ramping up to three if I find the workflow suiting me.
I don't really plan on earning any money from Thereafter at the time of writing, but considering hosting costs for the newsletter side of things, I may set up a patreon or other crowdfunding page if I ever start getting close to the 100 subscriber limit of the free plan I have my eyes on. It would be nice to get paid for this thing even if it's just the hosting costs, but honestly I just want to get the project out there and get some eyeballs on it, and if it catches on it catches on.
Thereafter is a bit of a appraising look, perhaps even deconstruction of the Portal Fantasy type of narrative, think your Narnias, your Warriors of Virtue, Your Pagemasters and what have you. In it, we meet 4 souls in their thirties who saved a secret magical land from a great evil as children, and have been struggling to make everything work in the aftermath of that. Now solidly among the ranks of the adult, these ex-heroes of legend find themselves, each in their own way, long for the magic, freedom and purpose of their adventures. When the strange wind that once whisked them away to their magical lands finally comes for them again, our heroes learn that they should have been careful about what they wish for.
The magical lands which our protagonists saved are all gone, shattered into fragments by something so vast and terrible not even the survivors could describe it, leaving the magical realms as floating pieces of flotsam and jetsam in the void between worlds. In this void, what scant few survivors there were from the calamity band together to build a refuge out of the broken pieces of their old worlds. It is to this refuge, a town called Thereafter, that our heroes arrive, learning that not only are these worlds they bled and suffered for destroyed, but they were destroyed centuries after their departure, their exploits turned into legends.
It is this legendary status that their summoners, the de facto ruling council of Thereafter, wishes to exploit. Plagued by a scarcity of resources and a truly wild variety of cultures, species and levels of magical ability, the desperate masses of Thereafter seem poised on the brink of panic and/or revolt. The council of Therafter prop up our heroes as having returned to save the world once again, hoping that their utter failure to do so will take long enough that someone will be able to come up with a better plan in the meantime. Our heroes, on their side, are ambivalent about pretending to be these larger-than-life personas that their legends have been turned into, but recognizes that their only way home is through the good will of the council, and so play along, at least until it becomes clear that Therafter's problems are far from over, and that it is impossible to rule the unwilling with clean hands and a clean conscience.
I'm pretty excited about this one. The idea of not getting to go back once I'm finished to make the style uniform is terrifying to me, and I'll have to get used to a kinda different way to pace the story, but I have decided that this is a good way to keep myself writing while leaving enough room in my schedule to keep the editing more or less consistent. Also, I can make it every bit as queer and political as I want to, so that's nice. Worst case scenario, it'll be a fun distraction while I work on getting The Clockwork Boy published.
A more detailed plot synopsis and some talk about the characters will follow at a later date.

twenty questions for fic writers
tagged by @feralkwe - thank you! I feel like I've done this before but if I have it's been a minute so
1. How many works do you have on AO3? across pseuds I have 1,010 works. with my "current" one I'm at 607. that is more or less my entire oeuvre, though there's a fair number of short fics on tumblr I haven't gotten around to crossposting though I'd ostensibly like to at some point. eventually. maybe.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 4,873,723. aYIKES. but hey closing in on 5 million! wonder when I'll hit that. I bet I would if I posted my unfinished wips for the mcu tbh
3. What fandoms do you write for? ever or currently? the list of fandoms I have written at least one fic for (not counting ones where the one fic was a crossover) is [deep breath] the mcu, the untamed/mdzs, supernatural, the silmarillion, a song of ice and fire, black jewels trilogy, wheel of time, doctrine of labyrinths, death note, the caliban leandros series, avatar the last airbender, kinnporsche, doctor who, buffy the vampire slayer/angel, gentleman bastard sequence, marvel comics, harry potter, temeraire, good omens, code geass, realm of the elderlings, greek mythology, dragon age, sandman, dexter, lymond chronicles, the firekeeper saga, lucifer (the tv series), crimson peak, kushiel's legacy, the x men movies, chronicles of narnia, twilight, and a couple other small book fandoms.
i used to be a lot more multifandom than i am now in terms of what i wrote for, and have been writing fic for which is how this happened.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? Not my favorite fics, for the most part. They are:
Life in Reverse (MCU)
With Absolute Splendor (The Untamed)
some good mistakes (The Untamed)
half a league onward (MCU)
The Villain Wrangler (MCU)
5. Do you respond to comments? I do not. I feel bad about it, but (a) I don't know what to say, (b) I feel unbearably self-conscious/self-important trying and (c) I already have too much I'm trying to do in my limited time/too many obligations I have placed upon myself to add another one that will just stress me out. Again, I have all kinds of guilt about this, though, which probably kind of defeats the (c) purpose of not doing it.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Almost certainly Mercy, though it's possible I could dig up others; that's the literal murder-suicide one, though, and I'm pretty sure I've only written one of those. I've written a lot where one character dies but another survives and has to live with the grief, which is arguably worse? but I still think Mercy wins. once there was a way to get back home might give it a run for its money, though.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I've actually written a fair amount of fic with happy endings! just mostly they have to suffer to get there. but trying to think of fic with a straight happy ending...I feel like I wrote some fairly fluffy fic in Black Jewels Trilogy fandom that I don't want to link to because I don't think it's very good. Maybe Life in Reverse, honestly? That's a fic where I tied up most things and resolved them in a pretty happy way.
Oh, or actually With Absolute Splendor might qualify.
8. Do you get hate on fics? I have in the past! Not a lot, but it happens every so often. Usually I just delete it, tbh; it doesn't feel worth leaving it there and I'm certainly not going to respond to it.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Sure do, primarily for pairings that are dysfunctional in one way or another, and for the most part I want the sex to say something about the inner life/psychology of the characters I'm writing. truly plotless smut does happen but I find it weirdly difficult. I have to do so much pre-justification work for my smut, at least in my head if not on page.
a lot of what I write at least has a little bit of kink or D/s flavor to it even if it's not explicitly written as such (and a lot of it is at least a little explicitly written as such). I also like to write about power dynamics (in sex) and sex that's sublimating some other emotion or desire, if that latter makes sense.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I used to, but not anymore, and I probably won't; I don't know why, but I'm just generally not a crossover fan these days. But I did write a Lord of the Rings/Cthulhu Mythos Morgoth/Cthulhu fic back in the day. No, I'm not going to link it, you can find it if you really want.
The Scarlet Pimpernel/Black Jewels Trilogy might be objectively weirder but it was because of an RP and therefore feels more reasonable to me.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I had forgotten about it until just now, but yes, actually. Including one that actually got reposted on AO3, which takes a particular kind of guts that's not the same as reposting on Wattpad or the like, imo. (I've also had fic scraped off AO3 and reposted on other sites.) The person took it down when I called them out on it.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I have been fortunate enough to have a number of fics translated into a few languages! I was curious which ones so I went and looked, and it looks like I've had fic translated into Russian, Chinese, and Japanese.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I've started co-writing a fic but never finished one.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? Might have to give this one to xuexiao, though there's a lot of room in my heart for many ships! that's just one that hit an incredible number of my favorite things squarely on the head several times, leaving me concussed and helpless. It's so much, you guys.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? There's a number of my MCU wips that I look at and am like "yeah what I have of this is good actually, too bad I'll almost certainly never finish it", among which is Dead Superheroes Walking, the fic about everyone who died in Infinity War being trapped inside the Soul Stone and having to work together to fix the ensnappening from the inside. I have about 3/4 of it written if not more and the remaining quarter will probably remain unfinished. It was Wanda POV and a lot about Wanda and Loki bonding.
another one is the one where Hela decides instead of fighting Odin to strategically back down and plan to overthrow him later, and therefore is around while Loki and Thor are growing up. I really liked what I had of this one, and really enjoyed writing Hela's POV, but again. don't think I'm going to end up finishing it.
I have a whole folder called "MCU Salvage" that's basically my MCU wips that I parsed out because I was like "these are pretty good actually, maybe someday I'll have the motivation to return to them", which is probably delusional but, well. one never knows.
16. What are your writing strengths? I think I'm pretty good at dialogue - I love to write characters having conversations, probably to a fault - and, when it comes to fanfiction, characterization.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Worldbuilding for sure is one. I hate it, I don't think I'm very good at it. also description - I feel like I lean heavily on dialogue in fic and tend to go light on descriptive language. this is probably partly because I'm not a very imagery-focused reader, so I don't think a lot about creating a "visual" with my writing, but also because I just don't like doing it as much as I like writing about internal thought processes and interpersonal verbal exchanges.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I almost certainly would not do it, as someone who is monolingual and has zero confidence in my ability to do it right in a way that wouldn't read absolutely awfully. The one exception to this is in Lymond fic, and that's because the canon did it first, so it is fully justifiable for me to have this guy spout off in five languages in one fic. Otherwise...not since I tried writing a fake Phantom of the Opera fic mocking bad Phantom of the Opera fics.
19. First fandom you wrote for? I always say Wheel of Time because that's the first fandom of my heart but technically I wrote a crack Harry Potter fic before I wrote for Wheel of Time. But in my heart it was Wheel of Time. That was certainly my first fandom in any meaningful sense of the word.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written? This question is my nemesis. My favorite fic I've ever written changes at least once a month. I have a series for this on AO3 that I'm going to link to as a lazy answer to this question even though that's sort of 50 of my favorite fics, so sue me, I've written a lot of things over the years and I actually do like a fair number of them, even if you have to make me say so.
tagging uhhhh @highladyluck, @curiosity-killed, @ameliarating, @gloriousmonsters, i'm not sure how many people i'm supposed to tag for this but if you want to do it, go ahead?

WIPS
MCU: the king and queen of Asgard wrt Valkyrie/Carol Danvers
MCU: the final conclusion of my winterbaron sugar daddy fic
LOTR: Doriath trash party wrt Melian/Galadriel
LOTR: “Sauron becomes a tree”
LOTR: dark Galadriel/Samwise and their garden of the world
LOTR: healing generational trauma with fourth age Arwen and her peepaw
The Matrix: Trinity and Smith as mirrors
Good Omens: Crowley haunted by his angel
Star Wars: A really scandalous dinluke sex pollen
Total number of completed works/fandoms written in: fifteen completed works in 2023 for a total of just over 32k words; six LOTR, two SPN, two Narnia, the rest sundry & various.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: ::taps the top of this car:: you can put so much monsterfucking in this bad boy, jfc.
PERSONAL FAVORITE: Getting unblocked by the most unlikeliest of sources and FINISHING MY SUPERCORP HATESEX. uncharted territory finished FIVE YEARS LATER. This has been a weight on my shoulders for years; I always knew it ended with a sadistic Lex Luthor torturing Kara (oop), but it was time passing and The Flash (2023) that got me where I needed to be to get that banged out. I’m really really pleased how that ended, and that I actually can finish a WIP.
MOST UNDERAPPRECIATED: Bound is really exceptional. It was part of my WIP amnesty week, and a revisitation and remix of a meg masters fic I wrote in 2013 after I had a terrible life-altering accident. My favorite 2023 additions are how she can only speak in the language of Sodom at the end. It’s not a GREAT fic, but I really love Meg and I love Meg & Castiel.
MOST POPULAR: Definitely Nimona (nothing can go wrong when you're in love) with 1,200+ kudos. Y’all, the teen/gen fic in younger fandoms hits hard. OOPS. re: my deeply funny stats for the little mermaid tentacles fic with over 3k hits and 86 kudos. AHAHHAHAH. welp.
STORY WITH THE SEXIEST MOMENT: OKAY, so this is sexy specific to me: in Crave, Galadriel taunts Sauron about how he has to fuck Ar-Pharazôn (a mini love letter to my beloved 5ummit!) and this, to me, is everything: “And you’ll never enjoy Ar-Pharazôn’s little prick again,” she says, drinking in the horror of his recent memories, a soured scheme. “Your play at feigned pleasure in service to a base creature will be ash in your mouth now. You will only think of the taste of my cunt with his cock shoved in your whore mouth.” The crass words burn on her lips but she can sense how he trembles, even in this form. “You’ll hunger for the taste of me. And when he’s dead, when you’ve sucked the miserable mortal life out of him, you’ll never take a lover again for the rest of your unnatural life,” she says. “You know where your dick should be sheathed. In me and no where else.”
MOST FUN STORY TO WRITE: Okay, I traveled for work a LOT this year and one night I was feeling down and angry about the world and asked on twitter that for every like, I’d write a soft haladriel headcanon and by the end of the night, i had the bulk of a little touch in the night and I was such a happy delighted lil soul. Such a highlight of the year.
HARDEST: A tie between Crave, which was writing on hard mode since I’m violently anti dominant Sauron (oop), and uncharted territory since I had been blocked for years.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: The delicious lush connection of Celeborn/Sauron in somewhere in the haze that STARTED AS A JOKE and now I’m full rarepair conspiracy theory into it.
DID YOU TAKE ANY RISKS IN WRITING THIS YEAR? Posting SPN in 2023, lol what was that. And neither of them explicitly destiel. Girl. Both tanked but I love those two fics.
MOST UNINTENTIONALLY TELLING STORY: Okay, one of my yuletides this year is really too close to something I’m working through in therapy. Oop.
FAVORITE LINES/SCENES: Okay literally everything in atomic blonde, that fic is nonstop bangers imho. I love this especially:
“Ah, there it is,” he replies. Stops, and turns to look into her eyes. To drink in her fury. “This isn’t your world, Daughter of Eve. Take your cursed horn and your beautiful face and take the little shieldmaiden too for all I care and leave Middle Earth to me. Grow old and find joy in women’s work.” He blinks, nonsense words emerging out of him: “In Christian Dior dresses and Chanel lipstick, in Italian leather handbags and silk nylons, in handsome British officers and those American boys who offer more than kisses, in the rumble of a Jaguar and the cries of healthy babies who do not fear war. Live and die on an island far, far away.” He blinks again. “I do not want you here.”
MY FAVE PART OF FANDOM IN 2023: Repeatedly saying “you hear me, baby? hold together” at the haladriel fandom like Han Solo does to the Millennium Falcon and we did! We made it another year!!! Let’s go, 2024!!!! (YOU HEAR ME, BABY. HOLD TOGETHER.)
2024 WRITING AMBITIONS: same as last year’s: Write more steadily and consistently. Get back into the drabble mode. Make time, take time, just do it. It doesn’t have to be groundbreaking, it just has to be creating something. The joy of creation is like nothing else. Chase that high.
2024 FICS ON THE IMMEDIATE HORIZON: Jan 1 - htp trash fic exchange Feb 3 - rffa exchange March - haladriel exchange!

Note
For the WIP game, would you tell me about "The Founder" and "Morgoth Wins AU", please?
oh you've asked about the two biggest ones in the idea phase, wohoooo here we go! I haven't even started typing the rest of the answer to this ask but this will be longgg lol
---
The Founder -
The founder is a working title at the moment, if it ever becomes post-able then I'll certainly re name it. I will try my best to explain it in as few words as possible - last time I explained it to someone in full it took an hour and a half and 2600 words. This one is very indulgent but I love it.
Unfortunately, the Founder has also been a white whale for years. I'm not sure if it'll ever get in completely postable form, at least how I want it. But Veil of Starlight, my Elured is Gil-galad fic, actually had it's start in this fic! The concept was originally part of this fic, but it branched out into it's own. The concept will still be in this fic.
It starts with the main character. I haven't decided her name that she'll have at this point, but her name through the rest of it is Merldë.
She was a "normal" human from earth, current day, when she discovered a strange piece of technology that fell out of the sky. Of course she touches it. It turns out, it's a prototype device to travel through time or to other universes. So Merldë gets a fun, impromptu introduction to the multiverse and time travel. Through these little journeys, she also learns about her heritage.
Earth's universe has a strange entanglement, reaching out to other worlds, and the space in between worlds. This entanglement could draw in souls as they traveled between worlds to the one they are meant for. Merldë was one of them, she was supposed to go to the 1st age of Arda, and to be an elf. Not just any elf either, as she discovers her elvish heritage, she also discovers that she was to be the child of Elurin, and Gwingloth, (Irime/Lalwen's daughter, born in Gondolion.) She also discovers some maiar powers.
Over time, she decides to establish her own kind of artificial "bubble world" in the space between other worlds. Kind of like inter-dimensional Rivendell! It's named Oudawor.
Oudawor has two purposes. It's like a half-way house. They rescue people who were fated to die, or who were in bad situations and needed help. For those who were fated to die, they can find a new home, or figure out how to avoid that fate without changing time too much. Oudawor is also like a base of operations, they don't just rescue individuals, they go into all different worlds to help. For example, in conflicts or wars, bringing medical supplies or aid. It is done very carefully, so the timeline is not too changed, or dangerously changed.
Many of those worlds are ones we know, like middle earth, the MCU, the chronicles of narnia, etc. People on Earth know about these worlds through stories from the entanglement mentioned earlier, humans can pick up on it and other worlds subconsciously, which is where some of those stories come from. They are not always true to how the events really happened.
I don't have much written yet. Most of what I have is set in Arda, but I think that would be much later in the story, it would be the last part really, because Merldë was afraid to go, because Arda has one of the most fragile timelines, and because she is so closely related to so many there. And because I figured out how to end the story, it was pretty hard to find an ending that I liked and was satisfying. Now if only I could find a beginning... lol
The part of this fic that I'm passionate about really is that part, based in Arda, but I think it would cover a few other fandoms. Really, it could go into any! I have a lot of concepts for the Arda parts that I really love, some things in the first and second ages, and a few things before then. If you'd be interested in some more of the details, I have a few scenes figured out, and some world building and such, please let me know if you'd be interested!
---
Morgoth Wins AU -
This one was inspired by this song! I was listening to it one morning on my way to class and this entire idea just hit me at once.
I haven't quite worked out the years yet, but (obviously) Morgoth wins. How did this happen? Well, the Feanorians won the war for him. I'm not 100% sure on the details for a few parts, but here we go!
This starts with things generally going a good bit worse for most of the first age. The Feanorians were lured away from their respective strongholds, and Morgoth's forces surrounded and sieged their strongholds. Morgoth held all their people hostage, and presented a choice. He kills and enslaves all their people, or he lets them live in peace and comfort... if the Feanorians serve him. If they agree, he will also return the silmarils, fulfilling their oath. I think there would be a LOT more pressures and factors in them taking his deal, but ultimately, they do. And one by one, the people of Beleriand fall to their swords.
Celegorm and Caranthir hold Menegroth under siege. Maedhros and Maglor take Hithlum. Maedhros and Maglor hoped to get Fingon out of Hithlum. They fail, and Fingon is taken prisoner before they can get to him.
Curufin leads a force to Nargothrond. Curufin falls at Finrod and Celebrimbor's hands. There are no tears. Only anger, fury. How, why? No one but the Feanorians know why they switched sides. After a few more years, Nargothrond falls, and Finrod and Celebrimbor are taken.
Most of the house of Finwe actually survived Morgoth's victory, but became thralls in Angband. The house of Fingolfin endured the worst treatment. Finrod's fate was a bit different from the rest of those captured. He became a spectacle. After some years locked up, he is forced to be a direct servant and minstrel to Morgoth. His every defiance turned against him, and onto his family. He doesn't eat? They aren't fed. He refuses to cooperate? They are not allowed to sleep.
So how long until he stops? Until the only defiance is in his gaze? He is well fed and dressed, so when Morgoth sends him on errands that take him right by where his family is laboring and being tortured? Well, what they think of him is the real torture for Finrod.
How long until Finrod completely breaks? Not yet, but this fic will certainly find out!
The rest of Beleriand continues to fall in the next decades, until only Cirdan's people in Balar stand, and they are preparing a desperate escape.
The Feanorians are just... broken. Hollowed out by all they have done, they have obeyed Morgoth's commands for years without needing any further threats to their people to "motivate" them. They begin preparations for the final attack.
And at the same time, an escape plan is taking shape.
What happens from here? Well, that would be too many spoilers. I think it's going to be a bit before I start proper, post-able writing for this fic unfortunately. I have 6 or 7 things that are in the real writing phase, so this one shall have to wait until that number goes down lol
Thanks for the ask!!! I am constantly rotating the Founder, and I am so excited about the sheer amount of angst in the Morgoth Wins AU, I am cackling evilly.

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by @just-here-with-my-thoughts!! Thank you!!
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
13 (meshurkaan) and 88 (the_problem_with_stardust)
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?
111,654 under meshurkaan! I have no idea about the_problem_with_stardust since some of those fics were cowritten :D
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now Star Wars, but I’ve also written for star trek, the witcher, teen wolf, marvel… maybe some others?
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Under meshurkaan:
sand in the hourglass codywan, 2224 words shovel in the dirt crosshunt, 1366 words any way to baffle death (Part 3: ESU), foxfives, 27786 words close out the sun (Part 5: ESU), foxfives, 12114 words (WIP) a flint and a fire (Part 1: ESU), rexfox, 31627 words
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to! I love responding to people's thoughts and reactions XD
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hehehehehe a flint and a fire :) It’s part of a series though, so it’ll get fixed soon!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably one bright morning? I wrote it the night before TBB series finale and I just wanted them all to be HAPPY
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Ah yes the mortifying ordeal of having your buddies read the porn you wrote. Um I think most of the time it’s fun and a little silly?
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t think I’ve written any crossovers?
11. (I kept your question XD) Which fic are you proud of but wish had gotten a bigger response from your readers?
Maybe only a call? It has some of my favorite moments in the ESU but it is also mainly worldbuilding so it might have only been fun for me XD
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A few! Mostly teen wolf stuff from WAY back in the day
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I did some round-robin type fics, but I am not a good writing partner since I struggle a lot with schedules and deadlines
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I’m a chronic multishipper so it’s honestly the ship I am writing for at the moment (this morning it was RexFoxFives, this afternoon it is TechPhee)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I always plan to finish WIPs, no matter how old they are (stares at across the stars) but there is a codywan fic I started for the 2021 codywan big bang and didn’t finish. I still think about it ALL the time
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hmmm one thing that I've worked on a lot is structuring plot. In long fics I like to include off-hand details that then become relevant later. And I do put a lot of thought into characterization so hopefully that comes through in my writing >.<
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Endings! I sat on trying to find my way home for three weeks before I added like twenty words to the end and just posted it
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It depends. I used to do it a lot but now that I primarily use screenreaders to edit, I don’t love it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
First published on Ao3? Star Wars (FinnPoe my beloved) But I was definitely writing little epilogues to each of the Chronicles of Narnia books at the age of 8
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Ummm maybe take the old, make it new? Or intersecting foliations? All of endless space unfurled? It’s hard to pick ^^’
No pressure tags: @whiskygoldwings, @cacodaemonia, @wolveria,
@catbuir, @loverboy-havocboy, @kartaylirnaak, and anyone else who would like to play?

20 questions for fic writers
I was tagged by @isagrimorie - thank you darling <3333.
1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 234
2. What's your total Ao3 word count? 364,199
3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently: The Tudors (TV), Shadow and Bone/Grishaverse, Tamora Pierce (largely Tortall at the moment but also Emelan), West Wing, Hunger Games (mostly in the form of a lot of Fandom AUs set in the Hunger Games) and Narnia. But I’ve written for a lot of others including Criminal Minds, Pundit RPF, Band of Brothers, Scarlet Pimpernel (1998), Spooks/MI5, The Hour, Doctor Who (Nu!Who) and Star Trek Discovery.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Undertow (co-authored) (Criminal Minds, Rossi/Hotch) - The very short version: Dave gives Aaron a back-rub.
It’s not because of you (it’s because of me) (Ted Lasso, Jamie Tartt) - Brian Symonds was - fuck is one of the best youth talent coaches in the country it’s just he’s also been arrested and all Jamie can think is fuck (one take on Jamie’s backstory)
Five times out of many david rossi realised he was happily doomed (Criminal Minds, Rossi/Hotch) - Basically what it says on the tin. Five ways David Rossi knew that he was totally totally doomed in the best possible way in regards to the way he loved these kids
To dwell in enchantment (Criminal Minds, Rossi/Hotch) - It doesn't make the world any less messy, but it does make a balance, this family he has. David Rossi, coming home from work.
If i could go back (co-authored) (criminal minds/ncis/csi: ny, rossi/hotch) - It's the day of Derek's high school graduation, and Jason Gideon is standing at the bottom of the porch steps, trying not to hope.
5. Do you respond to comments? I do my absolute best (sometimes sadly spoons :/) but I appreciate every single one of my kind comments.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think it might be Hope Deferred Maketh Something which features Jason Gideon/Toby Ziegler, an apocalypse set in a diner in New York (I actually think the larger world is hopeful but these characters specific corner of the apocalypse is Very Much Not).
Oh no wait also In Pardoning That We Are Pardoned which is a Spooks fic in which a certain episode The Thing Is Real.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hi Tudors OT3 Verse. Just in general. It’s not that there’s a conflict free path but it’s very very much a happy ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Very little but I have, yes and I will be honest it did get to me. And I am still working through it but moderating comments has helped a lot. And it was honestly barely anything compared to what so many people have to deal with.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes and also kind of no. I used to write it more and then uh, Trauma Brain. I can’t have sex because of CPTSD reasons and apparently writing sex is also triggering except sometimes the fictional people (or the fictional representations of fictional depictions of historical people) still do in fact have sex and so I write it. But it’s Weird (I think I do okay for never having had consensual sex though).
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I think I actually write more fusion AUs than crossovers in some ways but I have in fact written a Sherlock-L&O: UK-Thick Of It-Pundit RPF-Modern Tudors-Criminal Minds Multiverse cc @bibliothekara
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I was going to say I have but I actually don’t know/recall for sure so I’m going to say no. I have had podfic made of my fic though which is So Cool. (I would be delighted if anyone wanted to translate though).
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I have! Fantastic experience. Also just tossing AUs/ideas back and forth in general is So Much Fun and one thing I really loved about LJ fandom.
14. What's your all time favorite ship? I mean there’s Faramir/Eowyn my beloveds.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Into The Fire (The Tudors Scarlet Pimpernel AU). It’s going to get so dark and I’m not sure I actually want to go there because a bunch of people are going to die.
16. What are your writing strengths? Characters and like, description and emotion.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Dialogue.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I’d want to double check really carefully with someone who actually speaks the language in question (I’m currently checking about thou/thy formal versus intimate usage and that’s for English which I speak) before I did.
19. First fandom you wrote for? The first fandom I published fic for was The Bill. It was, perhaps not surprisingly angst and whump centric (before I knew what that was but) and may survive somewhere on the internet via the Wayback Machine.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Several:
With Snow Far Below (Band of Brothers, Roe/Renee) - Renee thinks in terms of snow and chocolate
Monuments, Historical & Contemporary (Criminal Minds/Pundit RPF, ensemble) - How they could build statues and memorials and think that by paying homage after the fact, they were doing an honor.
I Am A Princess On The Way To My Throne (Skyfall 2012, Severine) -Severine. And the way it could have been (written because aspects of her story are mine and I unashamedly wanted a different ending for her)
Such A Time As This (Tudors, Anne Boleyn) - "You have come to your royal position for such a time as this" or a retelling of the story of Queen Esther with Anne Boleyn as a Mizrahi Jewish lady.
We Rise Together (TWW, CJ Cregg) - CJ was kidnapped, not Zoey.
Once I Fall In Love (It’s Forever) (Kushiels Legacy, Phedre and Delaunay) - She loved him as she did me. The realisation had come suddenly, a shock [AU mini fic for Kushiel's Dart]
Karma Is My Family (Grishaverse, Inej) - Inej smiles at her friends who are her family, warm and full of love. Smiles at her husband, who has never possessed her or owned her - has never thought of their love that way - only as two hearts shared. [Inej and her power, her kindness, her love and the way karma comes for Tante Heleen]
Rewrite The Stars (Tudors, Anne/Henry/Thomas) - In another world this is how it might have gone between the three of them. The story of how the love between three extraordinary people change the world for the better and made it the kindest. The story of a fight for a fairytale. [An expanded version of the Tudors OT3 verse fic Rewrite The Stars]
Tagging: If you want to (and if you want to do consider yourself tagged): @bessemerprocess @endoftheworldhere @unseenacademic @emilykaldwen @shes-a-voodoo-child @onekisstotakewithme @claudiajcregg @holy-ships-x-red-lips @quillington @theladyelizabeth @naurielrochnur @eidetictelekinetic @dr-dendritic-trees @boleynecklace @nocompromise-noregrets @herawell @sarking

20 Questions for Writers
Tagged by @batrachised! Thank you friend! I am glad we are both mildly unhinged about the same 1900s Canadian author.
How many works do you have on AO3? 39.
What’s your total AO3 word count? 81,156. Which I did not realize.
What fandoms do you write for? Currently, I have written for: Stargate Atlantis (13) Harry Potter (8) Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (7) Girl Genius (5) Baldur's Gate III (3) Bob's Burgers (1) The Story Girl (1) Chronicles of Narnia (1)
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Falling For The First Time (DND:HAT) Troutblight Blues (DND:HAT) Five Times Marcus Woke Up Audrey (And the One Time She does It Back) (Harry Potter) [ed.note: How???) Hearts Worth Breaking (DND:HAT) Exit Wounds (SGA)
Do you respond to comments? I try to! Sometimes it takes a while, but I do try to reply to most, if not all.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? When I Come To The End Of The Long, Long Road for sure. Though that might be my angstyist fic just in general. Though Like Two Sparrows In a Hurricane isn't exactly chipper either.
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Most of 'em. I am a purveyor of cotton candy! It's fluff all the way down!
Do you get hate on fics? Not really? I've gotten one or two hmm comments, but I'm mostly in chill fandoms/write really niche things in unchill fandoms, so there are just less eyes in general. Which is fine by me.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have dabbled in smut. It is all very soft, very vanilla, and mostly exists as a way to practice a different way to analyze a character.
Do you write crossovers? I write random tumblr crossovers, if that counts. L.M Montgomery and C.S Lewis, BG III and DND:HAT. Things with thematic similarities, but nothing wild or cracky, alas! Thought one day, I might. One day. Because Anne Shirley, Girl Genius style Spark?? The potential!
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge?
Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not a fic proper, but I'm spitballed a fair few fic ideas with other people enough where it counts, I reckon.
What’s your all time favorite ship? The HMS Dreadnought; or, Anne Shirley/Gilbert Blythe.
What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? It hurts me to say, but Sir Yendar and The Blue Knight. But then, you never know! I might watch The Green Knight and the words might return!
I just suspect I need to just rewrite chapter 2 entirely. I don't want to! But.
What are your writing strengths? Brevity! I get to the point. I am so good at cotton candy.
What are your writing weaknesses? Well, sometimes I am too brief and skip a lot of useful detail. I also used to have a vocabulary? No idea where it went. Maybe to Ibiza with my motivation and my brain I guess.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? If I knew any others I would possibly have more of an opinion? But as of now it's never come up.
First fandom you wrote for? Oh boy.
So many, many years ago, I was into Digimon. Like, really into Digimon. Sora was my girl. I hated Mimi because ten year old Sparrow had some weird-ass internalized misogyny she didn't pick up at home, let me tell you!
But my first fic, some twenty-five years ago, was probably Digimon, and it was probably awful. And if it wasn't Digimon, it was for Dragons of Autumn Twilight and man would baby Sparrow be devastated to know what had happened to Raistlin later on in that series. Teen Sparrow was miffed as is.
Favorite fic you’ve written? Right now? Like Two Sparrows In a Hurricane. It's certainly one of my best.

Sunday Excerpts, Home in Narnia, Ch. 1, Verity POV, pt. I
@vsnotresponding @olive-riggzey
It was the holidays, and Verity was home from her dreadfully boring all-girls boarding school. She wasn’t terribly excited to see her parents, they never liked to talk since her sister had disappeared, but she was excited to see her Lao!
Both she and Lao had tried to convince their caregivers to let them go to a public school that had boys and girls, but this had been turned down. Lao, Lee, and Ray all got to have fun at school together, and she was stuck all alone. Not even Aiko and Alina to cheer her up. They had disappeared a year ago. No one knew where they were, and Verity didn’t think that most people cared to ask.
With her luggage, Verity got out of the taxi that her parents had paid for her to come home. Most parents picked up their kids, but not hers.
In a letter, Lao had promised to be home when she got there. She was dragging her suitcase, when she saw his familiar braided hair in the distance.
Verity dropped her suitcase in the dirt, and she ran to greet Lao. “Lao!” She cried, tears coming down her cheeks. He turned around, and she saw a smile creep onto his face.
Her arms wrapped around him, and he hugged her back. “I missed you.” Lao whispered.
Verity wrapped her arms around him tighter. “Not as much as I missed you.” She said. Finally pulling out of the hug, she added “It’s completely unfair. You have Ray and Lee.”
“It’s unfair that I single-handedly have to keep them out of trouble. Lee is docile until Ray gets involved, and he always finds a way to get involved.”
“I bet it’s been worse since…” Verity’s voice trailed off.
“Yeah.” Lao said, but then changed the subject, as he often did when Ray’s rebellion got brought up. She hoped the boy wasn’t too hard on Lao, but she was too afraid to ask. “How was school without them?”
“Boring.” Verity said, and she blew a piece of hair out of her face. “Aiko wasn’t there to make fun of the teachers. Leia didn’t gossip about the popular girls with me. Alina wasn’t there to give people disappointed looks when they’re being rude.”
“She was quite good at that.” Lao said.
Verity’s face fell. “Where did they go?”
Lao paused, and she tried very hard to read his expression. He gave no hints to what he was thinking, so Verity waited. Perhaps his silence was better, because she wasn’t sure she wanted the answer of where her lost sister and friends could be. A chill crawled up her spine that had nothing to do with the cold.
“I don’t know.” Lao said after being quiet for far too long. “Do you want help with your luggage?”
“Sure.” Verity said, her spirits slightly deflated. Lao had a habit of keeping tight lips on his theories. She had asked Lee about it once, and he said that it was probably because Lao had dark thoughts that he didn’t want to worry her with. He did that a lot, it was why he didn’t talk about his deceased parents.
Lao picked up Verity’s small suitcase from the dirt. It was the only suitcase she had, and it didn’t carry much at all. Just a week’s worth of clothes, a notebook, and her stuffed bear that Alina had given her.
“I lied to Lee and Ray about when you were coming back.” Lao said.
“How come?” Verity asked, her head tilted.
A blush flitted across his cheeks. “I…um…I thought you know…”
“What?” She asked, not sure what Lao was going on about.
“Um…you’re…you’re tired, right?” Lao asked.
“Yes.”
“Ray is um…hyper. So I thought you might want a few hours alone.”
“I don’t mind–” Verity said.
“I can call him.” Lao said. “Unless…you don’t want me to, and then we can be alone.”
“What would we do alone?”
“Just…” His cheeks were getting redder by the minute. Excitement bubbled in Verity. Each time she made Lao blush made her toes curl. “Be together. Catch up. Like how friends do.”
Her arms swung around his neck, and he lost balance, nearly dropping her things. “You are my best friend.”
“Best friend. Right.”
She kissed his cheek, and his eyes widened, the blush becoming ever deeper on his brown cheeks. “I don’t mind being alone.”

Okay, I'm vibing at home procrastinating from writing so now's as good a time as any for this post that I owe @starbirdrising!
Behold: My Top Ten Fantasy Books/Series For When You Need Something With Magic And Kingdoms And Good Vs. Evil With Good Winning And Fun Adventures And Probably Dragons So Basically You Want To Read Narnia But Something New Would Be Fun:
"Valiant", by Sarah McGuire. I will recommend this book for as long as it takes the larger part of my followers to read it. It's a fantasy fairy tale retelling of "The Valiant Little Tailor", which is in the gray area between well known and "wait that's a real fairy tale??" where The Seven Swans and King Thrushbeard resides. The general plot is this girl moving to a new city with her dad, but due to unforseen circumstances she has to pretend to be a tailor to make a living. And then giants show up. And she accidentally gets involved. There is a bit of romance, but it's really, really good. Also the writing style is IMMACULATE and there's adoption. (this is one of the only single books on the list, the rest are series)
"The Dragon With A Chocolate Heart", by Stephanie Burgis. First of all, I should have asked for this for my birthday. Second of all, this is about a dragon who gets turned into a human. By a food mage. Have you heard of a food mage before? No, you haven't, but they're amazing. Especially when it comes to chocolate. So, said dragon sets off to seek her fortune as a chocolatier! Super fun platonic relationships, and there are DRAGONS
"The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship Of Her Own Making", by Catherynne M. Valente. How can you turn away from an incredibly cool name like that?? This is your classic portal fantasy-- girl travels by leapord to Fairyland, gets up to trouble with a Wyverary, and has to face off with an evil Marquess! Also it's a series, and the prose is freaking STUNNING. I reread the last one recently, and there was crying
"The Green Ember", by S.D. Smith. My sister just called this series "this generation's Narnia" and WOW is she right. The journey of two young rabbits as they discover their heritage and the war to save their world-- it's beautiful!! And also really funny
"Magic Marks The Spot", by Caroline Carlson. This one has PIRATES. It's about a navy admiral's rebellious daughter, who takes off to become a pirate instead of going to finishing school. It's funny and delightful and just such a good read!
"Breadcrumbs," by Anne Ursu. This rec is accompanied with a story, because I said so. So, when I used to actually have time and go to the library every week, I would always see this book. EVERY. TIME. It was weird. I ignored it for the longest time-- until finally one day I decided "may as well give it a shot" and brought it home with me. And HOLY HECK was it good. A retelling of The Snow Queen, this book is about friendship. And growing up. And it made me cry. And I love it.
"Storybound", by Marissa Burt. This one is a duology, and they're both amazing! The first one tells the story of Una, a girl who winds up in the world where stories come from. The sequel continues her adventures, and also introduces a character who I love so so much. He's so funny and carefree. Until he's not in which case holy SPADES IS HE COOL. Also I'm suddenly realizing this book may have inspired more of my WIP than I thought. I digress
"The Search For WondLa", by Tony DiTerlizzi. This is actually not fantasy. It is, in fact, sci-fi! It's about a girl who lives in an underground home with her robot caretaker. When their home is attacked, the girl escapes to discover that the Earth she thinks she was raised on isn't Earth after all-- it's another world entirely. It's got AMAZING found family, super cool world building, and it's just so fun!!
"Tuesdays At The Castle", by Jessica Day George. Okay it's been a while, so I don't remember the exact premise of this one. But as I recall, it's about a royal family who lives in a magical castle that can shift rooms and grow new parts as well! When the royal siblings' are under threat from foreign enemies, they have to work with the castle to protect each other. Super wholesome family vibes, and the series is really fun in general!
"Wizard For Hire", by Obert Skye. I could not tell you if or if not this is fantasy. But I can tell you that it's set in modern day, and it's about a boy who lived on his own from a young age after his parents disappeared. And one day, he finds an ad in the paper for a wizard, and hires him to find his parents. Shenanigans ensue (as well as really funny catchphrases and a lot of breakfast food. No one is surprised that I love this trilogy)
Well, that's all the room I have for now! This post was super fun to make-- I might make another bizarrely specific one like it someday! For now, thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy some of these book recs

I'm equally interested in After City and The Expedition, so you're free to choose which one you want to talk about~
It is hard to choose between my children, but The Expedition is in a kind of tricky limbo situation, and there are some unresolved questions tied to who's working on it with me and whatnot that I'd rather not get into. So After City it is.
After City is a take on the Adventure In A Magical Land subgenre of fantasy story where a child crosses from the mundane world into a magical one to complete some sort of quest before returning, changed in some small or large way by what they experience. Your Labyrinths, your Narnias, your Warriors Of Virtue, that kind of thing. This isn't a story about childlike wonder and fun adventures though, this is the story of what it's like growing up after something like this.
We follow five people in their thirties who all had a magical adventure of some sort in their childhoods. While some of them handle it better than others, they all share a melancholic longing for the realms and friends now lost to them. One night, the impossible happens as the magical transitions that took them into their childhood adventures happen to them again, but the world they find themselves transported to is different than the one they expected.
Turns out the magical realms they visited as children are all real, or rather were all real before a massive sentient-seeming calamity destroyed them all, shattering entire realms with terrifying ease. Those few who survived the calamity flocked together in the void left behind and built the city of After from whatever parts of their old homes they could salvage. Our heroes find themselves pressganged by the council of leaders and sages that summoned them in the first place. The council has made a desperate gambit to unite the disparate people of After in the face of both despair and the very real threat of starvation and further societal collapse.
The main characters realize that time flows differently in the magical lands, and while twenty years have passed on Earth, it has been centuries, or even a millennium in the Realms, and the stories about their exploits have grown into legends far too grand to ever live up to. Even so, our reluctant protagonist supergroup has to try, as their fate now is inextricably linked with the fate of After, and the impossible disaster whose return would doom them all.
I haven't gotten far enough into developing this WIP to decide on the exact plot past the initial state of things as described here, but the plan is to make this a bit of a commentary on the whole "child on a magical adventure" trope. Our protagonists are torn between their desire to be legendary heroes and the acute awareness of their own shortcomings and traumas they have developed as adults. This is further exacerbated by the idealistic good-and-evil worlds of the Realms being reduced to the more cynical, desperate world of postapocalyptic survival in After. I hope to produce a work that delves into darkness and despair, but that is not cowed or subsumed by it and ultimately carries the torch of childhood wonder and hope to the end.
Of the many things I haven't quite decided on for After is the format, and I am considering going with some sort of alternative distribution method, perhaps even publishing it as a web novel of some sort, but I have to decide how it all shakes out before I get that far.

Final Words Meme
Rules: Post the final line of your 10 most recently published fics. (Or as many as you have published.) You can either omit multi-chapter WIPs or include the last line of the most recent chapter (or several chapters). Up to you!
Tagged by @iamstartraveller776, thank you!
Technically I have written and posted a lot of stuff more recently than most of these, but I’m only counting real fics, not 3SFs. It’s less fun when the line is an entire third of the fic.
1.  Far away in the Dragonpit, Syrax calls, an ancient sound of longing, and Caraxes answers, a cry of triumph, of joy. (With a Blade and a Crown, HotD)
2.  “Darling, I thought you’d never ask,” he said, and that was the last we spoke for some time. (a thousand times a kiss, The Ivy Tree - Mary Stewart)
3.  Holds to the girl she will one day be, seated on her throne and great with child; holds to the man behind her, to his beloved face returned, and smiles, and feels only joy. (I’ll See You in the Thawing Frost, Narnia/GoT)
4.  Lying alone in her bed that night, sleepless and sticky, Aravis breathes in the smell of him, lingering on her skin, and knows she spoke the truth. (be known in its aching, Narnia)
5.  And this time, I’m staying right where I am. (There’s a joke here somewhere (and it’s on me), The Folk of the Air - Holly Black)
6.  Until there is only Alina, her bare skin flushed and sticky, and the darkness all around her. (Keep Us Together as the Lights Go Dark, Shadow & Bone)
7.  “I dreamed of you,” she murmurs into his skin, and his arms tighten around her. (The Tisroc and the King (The Hollow Dreams Slip Away Remix), Narnia)
8.  Beneath her, he stills, and it’s she who laughs into him, the smallest sound of triumph. (Grace bound in scars, Shadow and Bone)
9.  She’ll wait forever in perfect faith for Susan to arrive home; will hold onto her, always, until the utmost end. (There’s Nothing We Cannot Ever Fix, Narnia)
10.  In the godswood, flowers bloom, spring on their petals. (Use My Heart Like a Weapon, Narnia/GoT)
Wow, are my repeated themes obvious. Two of these are in the midst of sex, one is right before, two are right after. Two are a metaphor for a relationship; all but one are shipfic. Every single one is also an exchange fic! I very much like the words joy, sticky, and triumph.
Tagging anyone who feels like picking it up!
