More “immorality” thoughts but I was amused by the idea of Calem and Volo meeting up and bonding way down the line once the burden of the curse has started to wear on Calem (in a route where Xerneas made him immortal during XY). Chain smoking together since all the depictions of modern Volo as such have influenced my vision of him. For Calem it’s always been a thing he smokes during XY (is my delinquent youth protag, afterall) but mostly hides it. Still smokes some even once he’s working for Sycamore but goes through phases where he’ll cut back for a bit but then get bad again.

But if he had the curse of immortality thing going for him. Would def start to care less since not like this is going to kill him. Why should he care if it’s somehow fucking up his body over time. I don’t necessarily see Calem and Volo being compatible in the longterm but if Volo gets re-involved with Lucas in any capacity, it would eventually lead to him and Calem getting introduced. If for no other reason than for Cleo and Casimir’s connection. Obviously if Calem is immortal Casimir is going to be affected in some capacity, and since I’m picturing this as an alt version of Mainverse, Cleo and Casimir becoming friends is to their advantage.

Honestly gives them doomed to become a couple vibes (Casimir and Cleo, so RIP Hale I guess. At least your man will have a fallback once you pass away). It’s just too good of a parallel for each of them to only have one (1) parent who’s immoral like them but everyone else in their family (younger siblings included) will die long before then. Casimir at least has the advantage of being raised by and close with his immortal parent but Cleo…

We’re spiraling into super AU territory here but was an amusing thought exercise and an excuse to reveal the smoker Calem lore.

Immortal volo looks tired pissed and chill all at the same time. Cool design :) got any other info on your version of him?

To sum up a bit of backstory (which is relevant I promise), Volo, though still bitter, ends up in a strange trio between him, Akari, and my other character Freya after post the post game in Hisui (important to mention Freya is in Akari's time travel situation, but she kept her memories and pokemon in tact). A bunch of shit goes down and Volo is both forgiven and punished by Arceus in a way and is granted (or cursed) with immortality. He doesn't actually find out about this an easy way and ends up outliving everyone he'd ever known in Hisui

Fast forward about 200 years into the future and into the modern era, Volo has calmed down a FUCK ton and kind of accepted his fate. At some point he finds out that he's in the space of time where Freya was originally from, and knowing that she was kind of sent home at the end of her escapade, goes to seek her out. Eventually he does find her and kind of sticks around as a friend of sorts. Who knows, those two have something going on between them but neither of them are sure how to handle it.

oh yeah, and he still has the same garchomp and cynthia has his spiritomb.
