ARCHIVE: Neat dream I had
The following was written several months ago. It was written just for my friend, but I thought it interesting enough to add to my archives.
Ok I don't normally do this, but I just had this dream that I really wanna tell you about before I forget. Basically, it was a dream about a theoretical new The Legend of Zelda game.
So, Hyrule in this game is far flung into the future after what's essentially a bad ending version of BotW. Ganon in BotW was never defeated, and now the kingdom is very broken up and divided. Many towns of people formed where people don't know if others are even alive. Essentially each town believed that they're the last of humanity. No one ever wanted to leave their towns as Ganon's monsters are more deadly and more numerous than ever as they essentially rule most of the open map. But that's the backstory, as this game takes place in the future. Now in the present (many years later) the people in these towns just grew up thinking that this is the way the world is.
So what about the Royal Family? Well, BotW Zelda lived despite failing and the royal family kept going. Now the royal blood is more meaningless than ever. Since the kingdom is a mess, the only people even AWARE of the royal family are the people in the town that the royal family lives in.
So, as the game begins it's seemingly focused only on this game's next reincarnation of Zelda. We play as her as she grows up, meanwhile her father oddly insists on her learning how to fight despite protest and confusion from others (like her mother). This serves as a combat tutorial, and this game's combat is similar to the Arkham games but with swords instead of fists. Eventually she matures into an adult, and on her birthday her father was about to reveal a secret to her when suddenly calamity strikes (figuratively and literally) as nearby monsters suddenly become more violent and start targeting their village (aiming for Zelda in particular).
Many people begin fighting to protect Zelda and the royal family, but Zelda insists on going out and fighting for herself. Her mother desperately pleads with her to stay inside but her father says to go out and fight. The two parents argue as Zelda grabs a sword and shield and runs out into battle. Most others have already been knocked out by the monsters as Zelda begins to fight. The fight was played in real time as you worked through the violent crowd of monsters.
Her parents watched from a distance as suddenly a monster got a good hit on Zelda. She gets knocked over as monsters start dogpiling on her. Her mother watches on in horror when suddenly Zelda starts emitting a bright light. She brings herself up to her knees despite the monsters's ongoing attacks as her whole body glows like a lightbulb. Then boom, a huge flash of light. Zelda is standing sword in hand (not glowing anymore btw) with all the monsters blown back. However, Zelda’s clothes are suddenly different. Her golden hair is now tied up in a ponytail, her royal dress is now switched out for something much shorter, her high heels are replaced with thick brown boots, and on top her head rests a familiar green cap. While confused by the new attire, Zelda has no time to question it as she continues to fight, suddenly stronger than ever.
You finish off the battle and Zelda stops to take a break. Her father walks up to her and finally reveals what he was going to say. Essentially, either by accident or by fate, when Zelda and Link were being reincarnated, they ended up reincarnated as the same person. This battle finally awoke the hero’s spirit within her. Her father knew this as he was encountered by a spirit in his sleep while Zelda was a little girl. The spirit told him this as well as that when she turns 18, her quest will be ready to begin. Her father kept this a secret as he feared that if anyone found out, word might spread to the monsters and thus Ganondorf who would surely have Zelda hunted down and killed in an instant. However judging by today’s events, it seems Ganon might have already known about this.
The king tells Zelda that they now have no time to waste and Zelda must leave immediately. He gives her a royal sword, shield, and bow as well as a map of the kingdom with markings on it indicating where Zelda (and the player by extension) has to head. He also sent with her a fairy as a guide. You see, this fairy actually made that map by flying safely over the kingdom. Her parents say their goodbyes as Zelda and her new companion set out on their journey.
And then I woke up. What a crazy dream right? Some stuff happened after but I can’t really remember. I’ll admit I may have dressed the dream up a bit in this, but it’s true that this was truly a dream I had. I basically woke up thinking about it and immediately ran in here to write down what it was. This meant to be a quick Discord post but I ended up writing over a full page lmao.
