Celia: Can I come in?

Max: Huh, yeah-yeah… come in.

Max: Sorry for the mess…

Celia: What happened once I left?

Max: [shrugs] Nothing important.

Celia: Hmm. And you got these falling down some stairs?

Celia: How afraid of your friend should I have been?

Max: Very. 

Max: You were only interesting to him because you were standing between us. I had to make him believe he won.

Celia: So… you didn’t mean what you said or you figured what we had wasn’t worth the trouble? 

Max: I’m not worth the trouble.

Celia: What? What is this about?

Max: I’m not a good person. You shouldn’t have to deal with threats and lies and… You should be going out with guys like Lucas or Chris.

[paper ruffling]

Celia: Max, that’s just not true. Could I live without the threats? Absolutely. Am I starting to see why you lied? … Yeah, I am. And I get the feeling you kinda have to. I understand I don’t know much about your past, but I have a pretty good idea of what drove you to do the things that were bad. And they don’t make you a bad person. Would you just stop for a minute so we can talk?

Max: What else do you want me to say? You said it yourself: you have no idea- [puffs] You know nothing about the real me.

Celia: The real you? If you think I haven’t met him already, show him to me. Show me how naïve I am to think there’s good in you. 

Max: Everything Jason said, except that crazy stuff about your grandfather, is true. I did all those things. I enjoyed it.

Celia: Then why’d you stop? 

Max: [Pauses] I didn’t like who I was becoming.

Celia: You hide. You lied to me to hide the parts you didn’t like about yourself. But you didn’t hide everything. You showed me parts of you, the ones that live here. I should have trusted these from the start.

Max: I did terrible things…

Celia: Max, if you want me to leave, if you want us to go our separate ways, I’ll respect your wishes. But I don’t want to go anywhere. I want to understand the parts of you you keep hidden, if you’ll let me.

I love how unsanitized The Terror feels. Like there’s grime everywhere. You can tell those men smell bad. When they do surgery you can hear the bone being cut, when they get sick they look genuinely ill. The main character’s actor even has pockmarks, he LOOKS like he could be from the 1800s! And idk, I think it’s cool that we’re so aware of the characters’ carnal desires. They’re hungry, thirsty, freezing, etc, and it is so obvious that they have a body with needs!!

I think this also accounts for how horny the show feels, even though everyone is bundled up 90% of the time and there are no real romantic subplots. Besides the fact that it’s a very carnal show, it just has the intimacy and grime of true horniness. Is this thing on

Jason: Max, open up!

Jason: I’m just here to talk. I swear. Come on, it’s freezin’ out!

Max: What d’you want?

Jason: Can I come in?

Max: No.

Jason: I see you haven’t lost the trailer. Does it mean the old man forgave you? 

Max: I rent it. He’s my landlord. 

Jason: I should move here, then, where the landlords give their tenants money. 

Max: He was paying me for work I did around his house.

Jason: I came to make peace. But I’m starting to reconsider.

Jason: I guess you haven’t changed your mind. Last chance to come back. I’m leaving in an hour.

Max: No. I’m staying. 

Jason: What do you see in this place? It’s driving me crazy, it’s so quiet. 

Max: I like quiet.

Jason: What did they do to you? The Max I know gets fuckin’ riled up over nothin’. He gets fucked up every other night of the week. He doesn’t go to bed as soon as the sun comes down and he certainly doesn’t get heartbroken over a clueless pretty rich girl.

Max: Whatever changed me happened before I came here. 

Jason: Was it the job?

Max: It’s part of it.

Max: You said you came to make peace. What are the terms?

Jason: You know, these people, they’ll never accept you for who you are. They’ll never understand. 

Max: I just can’t do what you want me to do, Jace. 

Jason: Okay. This is it then. 

Jason: I’ll let you live your miserable life here, but don’t come beggin’ for what you had. You’re dead to me. Never show your face in Newcrest again.  

Max: [deep exhale]

City of Tears. But Mini.

I wanted to make an atmospheric art piece with Dewi. And the City of Tears is one of the most sorrowing, beautiful, and grand places to do that. This is a lot of firsts for me regarding the architecture and lighting. The shadows cover a lot, and it may have been too much. I'm happy with how it turned out tho.

No idea how Dewi found his way into the City. Probably magic. Probably plot too :) But oh boy, he is experiencing childlike wonder in his raincoat!

This is a better show of the line detail I needlessly covered up in the final lol
