I watched TLOU last week with some friends, and they told me how much they loved Pedro Pascal and how they were very excited for The Mandalorian season 3.
I was never blind to the hype around that series, and it always intrigued me. It looked very cool, but the Star Wars legacy that came with it was scary to me.
I have never seen a single Star Wars movie. I had never seen anything Star Wars related before ! Sure, I've been on the Internet. I've seen the memes the reference. I know what a lightsaber is, but I never truly felt the need to actually watch the movies. They felt old and boring to me.
Then The Mandalorian came and won the Internet heart, and I felt left out. I wanted to see it, but I had no friends or family members who were fans of the universe, and I didn't want to tackle the journey of 9 movies all alone.
So I didn't.
That's how I came to tell my friends. " I'd love to watch The Mandalorian, but I have zero Star Wars knowledge, so I wouldn't understand anything."
This was the reason I stubbornly waited 3 years to start this series, and I hate and love myself for it. I hate that it took me so long, but I loved being able to watch 2 seasons in one go, and being this close to season 3 is a blessing.
As a non star wars fan, I had no expectation and no attachment to the world, and it still won my heart. I knew of "baby yoda," but I didn't know he would appear in the 1rst episode and would be the main character of the series !
I didn't know the main trope was badass. Man finds a child and fights to protect it ! I love that trope ! I loved it in the whitcher, in the last of us and now I love it in mandalorian.
I didn't expect how much I'd like the other character and the adventure aspect of the show. I love D&D and book adventure, and it really felt like you were discovering planet after planet and doing fun side quests to contribute to the main quest.
I also found so much fun in watching Star Wars fan reactions to the show and comparing it to my viewing experience. I had no reaction to the reference or iconic characters. HELL, when Luke appears in the last episode, I wasn't even sure who that man was. I was like "damn that an old haircut who's this. Why is he stuck in the'70s?" Also, I learned a lot by watching those reactions, and it gave me a new appreciation for the series.
I also watched episode 5 6 7 of Boba fett (I watched the first one as well, but I was bored, and I dont care about boba 😔 sorry) so I could be up to speed for season 3. I personally like where the story is going and am very excited for the new season!!
Still, I have no plans to watch the main Star Wars movies ... I'm not against the idea, but I can't be bothered to do it these days.
The next Star Wars series I'd be most likely to watch is the animated Clone Wars series, but it's not in my priority watch list right now.
