I didn't really notice any of this the first time I watched because I was so invested in the Shakespearean tragedy playing out in the courtyard outside, but I have to say it's interesting how anonymous and inconsequential Sambong is in this drama. Poeun's exclusion makes sense because his largest contribution to the foundation of Joseon is his death, and he does keep haunting Bang-won in every way but the physical, but Jeong Do-jeon, on the contrary, is kept forever just out of reach, as blurred as a female-presenting nipple. Given the fact that Taejong will soon forbid anyone to read his books or speak his name for centuries to come, it does seem fitting.

Ugh. The whole point of playing Doomed had been to take his mind off of strategizing and enemies.

He really should've known better.

With this level of destruction, GAME PHANTOM had probably racked up a high score already and gathered all the power-ups in the level.

Doomed didn't sound as fun anymore.

"You know what, I have a lot of homework to do anyhow. You two can keep playing if you want," Danny typed.

"You sure?" FRYERTUCK asked.

"Yeah. I really should try to raze my grades."

"I think you meant 'raise'," CHAOS said. "Unless you Mean what GAME PHANTOM's been doing."

"Hey, why don't you two come over to my house and we can work on our homework together," CHAOS said.

Danny smiled at the offer. His friends were always there for him. "Okay, thanks for the help, Sam. See you in a few minutes."

FRYERTUCK responded, almost at the same time, "Sure. But only if I can bring my own snacks."

Danny started to turn off the game, when GAME PHANTOM's chatbox updated.

"You're just going to leave?"

How did he...?

Danny slapped his forehead. He'd forgotten to switch back to the private chat after he'd said something to GAME PHANTOM earlier. Of course the jerk had overheard Danny say he was about to log off.

"Yeah. You win. Have fun blasting everything."

I didn't see this until late, but I see @residentdormouse do stuff like this so often that I figure I might as well actually share some of my writing sometimes. Maybe. fjkdla;sfd (Also thanks for the tag, you're a beautifully terrible influence as always) Looks like the rules (as I understand them?) are to post a snip from whatever you're working on? I've got a bunch of projects sitting open, but I'll share something from the one that Mouse influenced me to open I was looking at and editing the most recently -- a Game of Thrones fic I'm tentatively calling "Fool's Gold" until I've got something more clever to refer to it as. XD

And they don’t know that we don’t have Arya.” “I can’t promise her.” Tyrion rubs at the bridge of his nose with a sigh, leaning back in his chair. “Cersei knows that she’s too good of a pawn to barter for anyone less than Jaime. And that’s if Father will let her make the trade without the other Stark girl in hand.” Another roadblock made of Lannister foolishness, Percy thinks, deciding to keep that particular opinion to herself. It seems like Tyrion had done enough to blame himself since this meeting, and she knows he will take that one to heart more than she means. He continues to speak, talking himself into and out of ideas as she leans over the papers, brushing a few aside to see a page of names and illustrated banners apart from the list he had pulled from the pile. She doesn’t recognize half of the sigils, but one stands out…a red lion on a silver field. “Another lion…” She mutters, pulling the parchment closer. “House Reyne…I know that name.”

prompt #33: "Ew, Andrea..."

July 2039

“Ew, Andrea,” Beatrice grumbles, leaning away from her brother with a scowl, “Can you shower before you sit on the furniture?”

He sighs, tipping his head onto the back of the couch as he closes his eyes, exhaustion radiating off him in waves. “In a minute,” he mumbles, already half asleep.

“You smell like a dog,” Beatrice mutters, shuffling down the cushions to curl up against the arm, desperate to get away from him and the stench.

“You smell like a dog when you come in after practice,” Andrew refutes, folding his arms across his chest as he gets more comfortable. “This is just… oil and grease.”

“And sweat,” Beatrice adds. She frowns, tossing the TV remote onto the coffee table as she turns towards her brother. “Why did moms make you get a job?”

The question makes Andrea chuckle. “They didn’t.”

“Then why are you spending your summer making fries for a bunch of tourists?”

Andrea laughs again, cracking one eye open to have a look at his little sister. She’s gotten more tolerable in the last few months – less like a pesky little brat and more like a reasonable human being he doesn’t mind hanging around with.

She has her moments, of course, but she cracks a good joke and she’s stopped tattling every time she catches him deep in Mom’s secret stash of snacks.

“It’s money,” he offers by way of explanation, knowing it won’t be the answer she’s willing to accept. She’s good at that; digging until she finds the truth. Mama does it, too.

“Moms give us money,” Beatrice argues, “Why would you waste your free time making it?”

He sighs again, accepting that she’s not going to let him catch a couple minutes of slumber and sits up to look at her properly. She doesn’t see in herself what the rest of the world sees, he knows; the brand name clothing, the high-end running shoes, the unlimited access to food and shelter and all the training she desires.

She doesn’t realize, at thirteen, that they’re privileged.

“Do any of your classmates have jobs?” he asks.

She frowns, shaking her head.

“Mine do,” he tells her, “Most of my classmates do.”

“So, you got a job because everyone else did?” Her face pinches up at the concept, the very idea of following the pack so completely foreign to her way of life. She likes to be different, even if different at thirteen is mostly just listening to music her classmates have never heard of and not fawning over whichever boy they’ve all deemed the cutest.

“No,” he promises, trying not to laugh out loud when relief washes over her face. “But some of my classmates… they don’t have a choice, like we do. They have to have a job while they go to school, to help pay for stuff their family needs.”

“I know about low-income families, Andrea,” she huffs, folding her arms and jutting her chin forward in that indignant way she always does when someone challenges her. Or assumes that she might be sweet and innocent and dumb just because she’s blonde.

She’s like their mom that way, he supposes.

He shrugs, unwavering beneath her fiery gaze. “I don’t know what you know.”

“We volunteered at the SFD Food Drive like, two months ago,” she mutters, fixing him with a glare that screams you’re stupid.

“I’m just saying,” he presses on, ignoring her comment instead of admitting that he doesn’t even remember her tagging along to the Food Drive, “We’re really lucky to have everything we need. But that might make it hard for us to relate to other people sometimes.”

He tries not to grin as the self-righteous smirk falls from her face, replaced by yet another frown as she tries to track his train of thought.

“I might not understand,” he continues, “When one of my peers is discussing the challenges of juggling school and work. Or the difficulties of navigating customer service with unruly customers. But if I give myself those experiences, I can become a more compassionate human being and thus, a better, more well-rounded member of our society.”

Beatrice squints, silent for a moment as she processes what he’s said. “You got a summer job,” she murmurs, “Making fries in a trailer at the Pier, so that you’d seem like less of a jerk?”

Her assessment makes him laugh, the sound bursting out of him before he has much say in the matter. Good at cracking jokes. “Yes,” he chuckles, “Exactly.”

“You’re more stupid than I thought,” she goads as she turns away, reaching for the remote once more. He doesn’t miss the way her brows furrow, though, clearly thinking over what he’s said, ingesting it slowly as she usually does.

He pushes off from the couch, trying not to groan as his legs yell out in protest. “Guess I better shower, then,” he acquiesces as he heads toward the stairs in exhausted defeat.

“I think it’s too late,” Beatrice calls after him, “We might have to burn this couch.”

Also rewatching MC:TNA because I'm still trying to make a SFD crossover, which is harder than you'd think. For example, Hwi and Bang-ji are basically the same character (happy street urchin turned sad disillusioned swordsman), and so there's really only space for one of them in the same universe. Same goes for Madame Seo and Cho-young, Yeon-hee and Hui-jae (but I made them spy friends anyway. Because they would be), and to some extent Hong In-bang and Nam Jeon. One also has to choose which iteration of the princes to adopt: the older, deadlier Bang-won or the wavering, more anguished Bang-won; warrior himbo Bang-gan or sneaky trickster Bang-gan; the gullible Bang-seok who loves his hyungnims or the scared shitless Bang-seok who looks like he's about to pass out after every state assembly. Suffice to say I am struggling.

But anyway, here is Sambong's mysterious side profile in the one (1) scene he's in. I do like that his main job in this show is to be the king's Most Favorite Little Guy who is always mentioned and never seen, and who is the source of all of Nam Jeon's resentment. Die mad about it Jeon-ah <3

Kaoru (they/he, 18) is the SHSL Daredevil. as u would expect from a lovechild from a guy that has all the talents and another guy who has luck cycles. Yes, they do have the ability to get new clothes. will they? no. They enjoy fighting sharks and annoying their little sister to death. As a sibling should. They zone out a lot and are basically an older sibling to all the other kids on Jabberwock island, considering he is.. kinda the oldest. Sometimes they have to ask people to repeat themselves multiple times because they just. Zone out about daredevil/adrenaline junky fantasies in their head and their auditory processing is... not so good. But that’s okay, though he is sort of embarassed about it. Sometimes he can have a bit of a creepy demeanor because of his thing with zoning out??? But they really are a nice guy if you get to know them! Also if you ask them a question be ready to literally HEAR the AOL startup noise as they try to figure out what you said and then think of an answer. (Mans has 2 do logic dive anytime he answers a question :pensive_cowboy: tragic.) They have probably almost given Hajime a heart attack over 50 times by now.

Riye (she/her, 16) is the SHSL ???. I’m not sure if i should like. reveal her ultimate but i think it’d be funny if i revealed it over time. which i know will eventually just fizzle out when my hyperfocus dies KJLFHA.SKDJFLKAJF. She’s narcoleptic and because of that she has a parasomnia (keep in mind i’ve not done... a ton of research on this so please tell me if i’m wrong or anything!!). She sleepwalks sometimes and had a nightmare so bad that when she woke up she thought she was still dreaming and scratched Nagito. Did i mention she gets frequent nightmares??? yeah, homegirl is NOT having a good time. When she was younger and still had the hope of being an ultimate (yeah, she doesn’t know she’s an ultimate), she would do a lot of research on what ultimate she could have and has a lot of just nifty little talents from it. She enjoys reading in the library a lot and would always make Nagito (or Hajime, if Nagito wasn’t there.) read her a bedtime story until she turned 13 and deemed it “cringe” to be read to before bed. (But sometimes.....sometimes it’s okay and not cringe if she’s having a rough night or had a really bad nightmare). She also taught herself piano! It calms her down a lot. She also doesn’t really ever.... get angry at people?? Sort of weird. The only person she ever gets angry at is Kaoru because he annoys her to tears. Also don’t make her cry....do NOT make her cry. Consequences will be had.
