had the really fun experience of going to see the shoresy fall classic at the gardens (what remains) last night. it was soooo much fun - they play alumni in various cities. so they got a collection of leafs alum.
but oh my god. the most fascinating thing about the whole game was just seeing -- the level of play. you get so used to watching these incredibly talented men play each other on the ice, they make it look so easy sometimes!, that it's easy to forget. just how fucking good they are.
not ALL of the alum are ancient, but a fair few are. Vaive and Clark especially are on the old and grizzled end of things. But oh my god. The alum danced around these boys. And a fair few of the shoresy cast were good enough to draft, remember! even play in the show a bit! but phew!!
the game was two periods and a cute little shoot out and you could tell that part way through the second the alum practically felt bad for the guys lol. I fully watched Clark just tap the puck up to the goalie's pad once, just a hey, here you go <3!
so: recommendation. Any time you are like. SOOOO frustrated with your teams boys, go find yourself an exhibition game. or even just some like. low tier hockey. just go watch some guys play who are like, pretty good for a bunch dudes on skates. just remind yourself a little how fuckin' good these guys gotta be to make it.
#my second favourite part was keeso and vaive swapping jerseys#so that there was a “Trade” mid period#btw then keeso went out on the ice with antropov and i think williams#and scored twice#they set him up so beautiful that it just. boop! in it went#and then when vaive came to celly with them they shoved him away lmao#but also just genuinely heartwarming#watching this guy play with heroes#imagine being keeso 15 years ago#and telling him#one day you're going to swap jerseys with rick fucking vaive on the ice of maple leaf fucking gardens#and leaf alum are going to set you up for two goals
