Some day, I should actually write that whole "How To Cope With Your Soul Mate Being Uncomfortably Younger Than You Without Ruining Or Grooming Them: The Awkward Uncomfortable Choices Of Chiba Mamoru And Why He Was Right" essay I've been sitting on since, like, 1998.

#my favourite difference between the original anime and crystal... well it's more Hotaru #BUT #my second favourite is crystal giving us a Mamo who can just be giddy and romantic #which only really ended up increasing my respect for original anime Mamo #brobro is doing his best even if none of the fourteen year old girls involved (protag or viewer) can understand yet why he's like that #I honestly don't understand why an age appropriate Mamo would go to the US for Cosmos #but even at the time I viscerally understood why twenty mumble Mamo did #he wanted Usa to grow into herself not into the wife she thought he wanted her to be
