Episode 5 of my school president really has everything. Full of TinnGun getting closer and bolder with their flirting, TiwPor talking, SoundWin annoying each other and the iconic rap battle (that I still skip) but also hugging!

Why was this episode so cute OMG. First we get Tinn’s constant and unwavering support for Gun even when Gun is doubting himself. The piggyback scene exists. So does Gun’s jealousy. Gun’s mom and crew singing about their love for music, and the SoundWin hug. Then they give us a confession scene with no warning and it’s so soft? Absolutely adorable? Like Tinn obviously let it slip by accident, but he doesn’t freak out or run from it. Instead he stays and lets Gun know he’s serious. I can’t with this show. It’s so good!

at first, sound didn't want to be around gun and his friends because he thought they were taking advantage of him. then, he wanted to take advantage of them to feel like he was winning over tinn. but in the end, he understood that they were good people who didn't want to hurt him and they really appreciated his talent, he didn't want to use them either anymore, so bit by bit he has been able to open his heart to the chinzhilla boys.

the sound of ep 4 that didn't smile, now smiles at his 5 friends, he is able to laugh with them.

his character development can be seen if you compare the way he treats gun, initially, he did not care about gun’s feelings when he became the leader of the band, but now, he has accepted gun and he even told him about his wrist’s pain cuz he was worried that their performance would go wrong because of him.

his change can also be seen with the rest of the band members, win included, but they have handled it differently. his relationship since the beginning has consisted of fighting, it seems like their personalities don't match at all. but in episode 6, even though they fight, at this point they know they don't hate each other, and they try to support each other because they are in fact friends but it's hard for them to show it. win bugs sound at first cuz ever since he met him, he felt that sound was better than him and he finally felt that he beat him at something. but sound felt bad about it. when win came back that night to play badminton with sound, ofc it wasnt because of the wallet, he wanted to help him and it was his way of apologizing to sound. sound understood.

it is difficult for them to show concern at first because it may seem that they will look weak because of it, because they have only known how to fight, because they are afraid of being mocked.

in ep 8, win is upset at first because he feels that sound doesn't care about them. he tries to fight him but he feels that there is something off, sound doesnt fight back, sound is a picky person when it’s related to music but suddenly he isnt. win has a hunch.

he follows sound, and seeing that he has hidden his pain because he cares about them, fighting doesn't seems important anymore, he doesn't need a facade to show his concern anymore. win really worries about sound. he wants to support sound because he’s important to his band but deep down he can't deny that it is also because he's his friend.

after seeing that sound is better, win and sound can fight again, but for now they are just joking with each other. their “fights” are to joke with each other, it doesn't seem like they are to upset each other anymore.

i think that deep down both of them should feel that they can finally breathe, that they don't have to fight anymore, that they can be friends who behave the way they treat their other friends. i am not sure how their relationship will develop because it is still very recent, and they have fought since they met. but at least they are both aware that they are friends and they care about each other. if any of them feel sad, they will be willing to be together to support each other in their own way.

I just don't think i'll ever get over how Tinn didn't hesitate at all before picking up Gun to grab that leaflet that was stuck on that tree. How they somehow ended up staring at each other while hugging with their hearts beating like crazy. How they got lost in each other's eyes as if the world had stopped. How Gun was looking at Tinn's eyes, then at his lips, then at his eyes again, only to start panicking once he realized what was happening. How he broke free from the hug, still panicking and immediately tried to rebuild the walls that he had previously let down when they were having their little moment. How he got so flustered and was so desperately trying to catch his breath. How Tinn was smiling to himself but still hadn't realized the effect all of this had on Gun.

Aaahhhhh. I keep thinking about that last scene in E5 of My School President. Tinn’s accidental confession to Gun was so well handled. And Gun’s response was consistent with how he reacted earlier in the episode when Tinn tried to ask him directly if Gun liked anyone (him) to date after Hot Wave.

Gun still isn’t ready to verbalise and acknowledge what is growing between them. Flirting and teasing is easy - it is fun and the banter between them is non-threatening. You saw it in E4, when they were practicing Tinn serving cake to Gun, and it comes up just before Tinn’s confession here. Gun is asking Tinn about who he likes, but because he isn’t ready to say his feelings out loud, he gets taken aback when Tinn does. Gun finishing that sentence “the one you like …is me” is as scary to him in that moment as Gun saying he likes Tinn too. Not because he doesn’t feel things - I would say his actions and the way he has accepted Tinn into his life are testament that he knows something is there. But by speaking it out loud, it becomes real, and the relationship moves from being Hypothetical to a real thing.

It’s also a reality check that that there is more to life after Hot Wave. He’s been able to hide behind music and the competition as a way of avoiding dating up until this point, and probably has never had an interest in anyone serious enough to want to date - not all high school kids do. But here is Tinn, making his heart race, supporting him to achieve his goals, helping out whenever he has doubts or issues at home. Tinn is someone he could see himself wanting to date, but he doesn’t have any experience with opening himself up to that. Tinn being a friend he flirts with is one thing. Tinn being Gun’s boyfriend - he still needs time.

We may joke that Gun is an idiot (affectionate), but he isn’t actually - it’s just that he only pays attention to what is most important to him. Before Tinn, the only thing important to him was Music and Hot Wave. But as his final school year flies by, he knows that he needs to start facing reality. He can do well in school if he wants to. He helps his mum at the cafe and can recognise the shop is struggling when his mum gets sick. And he has picked up that Tinn likes him since their study dates and Tinn confessing that part of the reason he joined Student Council was to help him. I don’t think he is going to misinterpret the second poolside confession as Tinn liking someone else in the club.

Tinn and Gun move from being a safe zone to mutual affection. Colors are the most important feature to underline that change and the central colors are blue and pink.

Blue is associated with words such as loyalty, trust, honesty, confidence and peace of the mind and soul.

Pink is associated with words like unconditional love, romance, affection, intimacy and empathy.

Episode 4 definetly marks a turning point because the café is very pink and they share moments of deep staring and dumbfounded grins. They both have fallen in love, Tinn even more than before.

But when they were dancing in tuxedos in Tinn's imagination, there was some pink light in the background as well. It just wasn't that intense and I think it's because this scene is about Tinn and how he sees Gun. He loves him but now Gun loves him back, which makes their whole lovey vibe even more intense thus the pink overshadows the whole scenery.

It's only in episode 4, I noticed the color but throughout the other three episodes, there were a few moments the color blue was established as something very ensuring. It's used to show the beginning of something. Episode 1 had a pretty bland appearence because we didn't know the characters yet and there wasn't something going on between them. But as soon as they start spending time together, the colors slowly and steadily shift in the slow pacing that mirrors the development of their relationship.

We have Tinn singing to safe Gun's voice and he is shining blue. The blue is so intense because Gun feels safe and calms down from the stress of performing. Tinn is his savior in that context and his presence is ensuring Gun he's not alone in this.

And we have these two dancing at the swimming pool. The scene is very calm, they talk about some intimate things and thoughts about their choices. It's very soft and the water is just a side effect but it still represents something calm and steady. Something relaxing especially Gun discovers in Tinn and Tinn finds in Gun.

But it's not only the colors. What also draws lines between Gun with Tinn and Gun with others are the calm scenes. Tinn and Gun bond when they eat on the stairs and spend a whole week tutoring and studying, yet they flirt in the café. They flirt when they are outside and they bond when they are alone which is such an interesting way to portray two people finding love. Because many people are different when they are among people. Not, that they want to show off but socializing while being with your crush pushes you to another level of cheekiness and Tinn and Gun can't help but flirt. Brushing hands, half embraces, staring, coming close, being lost with each other. I always love it when shows or movies draw those lines, it's once again inside vs outside which is always a great choice of directing to show two real characters everyone at least partly relates to. The way they fall in love and the given circumstances feel realistic and legit.

wow episode eleven was truly elevening

I’m guessing it annoyed the fast-forward-through-singing crowd, but I loved the random OST music video dropped into the middle of the episode. At first I was excited to hear Gun’s mama singing; I’d seen on MDL that she was a famous singer and I’d wondered if they’d ever use that. And I’m glad they did because she has a beautiful voice! And then the fabulous singer from the fantasy dance joined in. Who is he? And who is the character? Because he seems to have become a character now, with the sad piano playing and the unseen person on his couch. Ohhhh. I just now figured out that that was Por, the band member whose parents think he is in physics club,* and that was him telling his mom he wanted to be a musician. I was not expecting that fantasy-land singer to be one of the friends. His voice is so good!

*unless it was Phat? I’m having trouble keeping all the friends’ names and storylines straight. Let me know if I mixed them up, it’s hard to tell from the little headshots on MDL. No, it was definitely Por.

And then Sound has his moment, then Win sings and even gets to rap a little bit (sorta), and then Tinn finally joins in. I quite like all their voices! I can’t tell if they’re auto tuned to hell and back or anything, but as an amateur appreciator I enjoy listening to them.

It was kinda random. But I liked it. It worked I think because the show has already done a lot of switching into fantasy worlds, so it didn’t feel jarring or out of place.

Also, how cute is Sound hyping up Win at the rap battle? (So sweet.) I was not expecting an enemy-to-lovers romance for those two, but I’m here for it. I feel like Sound is not really a consistent character in is own right, just becoming whatever the story needs him to be, but eh, whatever. Still cute.
