WWE Royal Rumble 2021 - Initial Thoughts

I know I’m late, but employment is still a thing, and I had to prioritize that over an all-nighter, but it’s time for the Royal Rumble, one of the more exciting shows of WWE’s schedule, so let’s get on with it!

Spoilers for Royal Rumble, you have been Warned

I might not invest too much in kickoff matches but the Women’s Tag Match was not a good time

It was fine before the end, but who the hell decided that Charlotte should control 90% of the champions’ offense and have the hot tag!? Asuka is the RAW WOMEN’S CHAMPION, not Charlotte. After the tag Asuka literally had one spot and she was dead, completely taken out of the match for *checks notes* being thrown over the Announcer’s Table...you know that thing several wrestlers come back from easily.

The finish was just too much too, Ric distraction didn’t work, Lacey distraction didn’t work, Kirufuda Clutch didn’t work but then the brass knuckles did. Too much.

And why TF are we putting titles back on Nia!? We should’ve just given the titles to the Riotts, or the winner of the Women’s Dusty Classic. It also cuts me deep that Asuka and Shayna are treated this way, even as champion Asuka is a side character to Charlotte T_T

Main show though and I don’t like the package and interviews between entrances

Drew vs Goldberg was just...meaningless.

It was cringy enough that Cole had to spout drivel to make 60 year old Goldberg seem strong but to have Drew be ‘injured’ by a barricade spear - something much more tired wrestlers have and will get back up from in less time and continue a longer match - was daft. Also saying that Goldberg’s spear or jackhammer is the best move of all WWE is stupid, it was a WCW thing

Thank God Drew Won, but the post-match does remind you of the meaningless circumstances this feud came about. Suddenly Goldberg is okay with Drew’s same manners of respect

I mean, Carmella’s entrance and gear is cool, but do you think it eats at Corey a little that Carmella’s ‘behind the curtain’ bit is a tad...red light district?

Sasha’s promo didn’t hit for me unfortunately

Reginald didn’t deserve to be ejected for that! He caught Sasha and get beaten up for it

Jesus Carmella! Sasha got barely any of that dive

Screeching and faffing aside, Carmella got a good showing...I do hate quick tap outs in title matches though

Sami cuts a good promo, but his content wasn’t exactly the best. New Day are hardly the management’s faves, it’s taken this long for E to get a singles run, Fans literally had to Yes Movement their way into giving Kofi the world title.

New Day’s Brodie gear was good though

Bad Bunny as the ‘Biggest Latin Artist’? Is Cole for real? I didn’t even know who he was before today

If the song is about Booker T then why is he dancing around GI Bro?

I get that the narrative is that Charlotte has beaten both Bianca and Rhea before, but to hang against both of them after already being in a match and hanging on from two apron attacks was daft. Stop making her super strong, she’s mega talented yes but giving her the Brock Lesnar energy does her no favours

That close call though with Rhea and Bianca was great, need more spots of two wrestlers about to be eliminated at the same time

The final bit of chain wrestling too was great, that’s what you need at the final part of a rumble, the mini-match

I had Rhea as my win prediction but am more than happy for Bianca, who was my second choice. Winning at No. 3 is great and her emotional promo just gets her more over. Bianca vs Sasha’s gonna be wild too

Overall the Women’s Rumble was good, most of the women got shine and there were a few mini stories too, do wish that more time was given to some women and that Sonya was in the rumble but the returns were good and most of the eliminations got me good

Miz talking about guaranteeing a championship run like he didn’t lose the last cash-in and didn’t have a chance to cash in previously this night when Drew was ‘reeling’ from the barricade spear.

I reiterate that I wish Sonya was in the rumble, but do like her endorsement of Bianca

I didn’t forget about Orton, but the finish was good, that Orton tease got us good

It was a decent rumble, in hindsight you could tell Edge was winning given how they put express focus on Michaels winning at number on in the stat attack, Edge being face in peril for the first 10 entrants and Cole reminding us how long Edge has been in there

I don’t at all hate the end result, though I do question whether it was the best choice in the long run. Edge had his rumble win returning from injury already and throwing more legends at Drew does imply a heavy lack of depth in the current roster. Edge didn’t really need the win, but I’m not disappointed in him winning

The Men’s Rumble itself wasn’t as good as the women’s I don’t think, a lot of favourites of mine were unceremoniously dumped out quickly, any layered storytelling didn’t get enough time and it did feel a little by the numbers, almost a microcosm of modern WWE booking

Overall it was still a decent PPV, happy with the winners of the rumbles and that’s mostly all we need from a Royal Rumble. The Road to Wrestlemania starts here

Sendai Holiday 2019, Part 3:  Home rink and Olympic monuments

(Parts 1 and 2 were on ice shows ‘Fantasy On Ice’.)

On my 1st trip to Sendai last year, I flew straight to Sendai Airport.  This time, I decided to take the bullet train.  The shinkansen ride from Tokyo Station to Sendai Station was just one and a half hours, very fast and comfortable. 

I booked the same hotel as last year and everywhere was friendly and familiar.  I felt so happy to be back!  And I knew exactly where to go. :)  First thing I did was to visit the station’s Tourist Information Centre where ‘young master’ Yuzu welcomes all to Sendai.  I needed to find out more about shuttle buses for the ice shows.

It looked the same as last year, except one more message has been added to his poster: “Congratulations on receiving the People’s Honour Award!”  Omedeto~!

Next, I bought zunda mochi from a shop in the station and boarded the bus for Ice Rink Sendai.   Haha, this was exactly what I did on my first day in Sendai one year ago.  

Ahhh.... my sweet zunda mochi, I have missed you. xD

Passed by Nanakita River and Yurtec Stadium; it means we are almost there!

When I alighted from the bus, I was surprised at the changes in the area.  There are new buildings!  To the right of Ice Rink Sendai is a cute pasta restaurant.....

and on the left, a huge D.I.Y. store.   They weren’t here last April. :)

I brought along Shampoo Neko's fan art (with her permission), wrote "Love and support from Yuzuru Hanyu International Fan Group (FB)" and gave it to the reception of the rink.  I told the nice lady at the reception that this art is drawn by a fan from Argentina and there are many fans from all over the world who love him very much. She smiled and said thank you.  (And I was extra happy to hear Yuzu say he loves fan art during his talk show with Shuzo-san. :D )

I took some photos of the reception area.  Compared to last year, it is much more "bare" because all the support messages for 2018 Olympics have been taken off the black wall.  The rest of it is about the same.   Our handsome 'young master' is still there and there is now a sign saying "Do not touch..." xD

As before, photography is not allowed for the rink area and the small gallery of photos and memorabilia.

When I was here last year, I rented skates and tried to skate.  This time, I didn't skate because I didn't want to risk any injury that would prevent me from going for the ice shows.  So I just paid an entrance fee and sat at the rinkside to watch the skaters.

I was happy to see Nanami Abe sensei again!  Last year, I saw her coaching a group of children/young teens. This time, I saw a different side of her.  She was teaching an older teenage boy and they seemed to be going through the choreography of a programme.  Since Nanami-sensei is a choreographer as well as a coach, I think she probably choreographed a programme for this skater for the new season.  She skated some steps and he had to do the same.... and one part was difficult for him and he couldn't do it properly.  She skated again a few times to show him and he tried it over and over again until he got better at it. Then she took her little music player and they did the steps with music. They were talking and laughing every now and then, and enjoying the whole process.  And Nanami-sensei is so graceful and light on her feet, wow, I enjoyed watching her.  After a lot of practice of that part, they moved on to the next section of the choreography. The student's mother was standing near me and she was using her handphone to record some parts, looking quite pleased.

As a non-skater, I’m glad I got to watch part of a programme being made.   So much hard work.  He was practising some steps that I have taken for granted in Yuzu and I didn't even know they could be so difficult (for a skater).  Watching this boy, I could see the work behind just a few "simple" steps.  I realised that even though I've read and watched so much about Yuzu over the years, I still know so little about skating.  Sigh. :(

The boy was tall and slim and wearing all black, so similar to you-know-who.  I was also thinking, how many times Yuzu must have practised like this with Nanami-sensei, in this same rink, with his mum recording at the side......  *goosebumps*

There were also a few other skaters having individual lessons, doing spins and jumps, pretty high level stuff.  I was very contented to sit there and watch them.  I also had a nice chat with one of the coaches who gave me a lot of help last year.  She remembered my name (omg I was so happy!) and she bought me a drink from the vending machine (she’s so sweet!).....  It was so good to see her again.   Thank you, Sensei! 

On this day, there were no group lessons as the rink was closing early for a special event.  Javier Fernandez was invited to teach a group of kids there.  As I was leaving, I saw the staff getting the place ready.  Everyone must be pretty excited!  Lucky kids!

Next, I wanted to see Yuzu’s new Olympic victory monument.  I took the subway from Izumi Chuo station to International Centre Station.  It was a beautiful day and I was greeted by a marvellous sight.

The view from the back was as gorgeous as from the front.

When I was here last April, the SEIMEI panel was not up yet.  After watching the ceremony on live stream recently, where Yuzu officially revealed the design, it was very satisfying to be able to see it for real.   And once again, I was reminded that the panels are much bigger than they seem in photos. :)

Congrats again, 2-time Olympic gold medalist, Hanyu Yuzuru senshu!   おめでとうございます！！

Of Duty and Love

The periodic repetition of a melodious fusion of flute and running water pervaded the quietness of a bedroom, disturbing the peaceful slumber of one of the two occupants on the king sized bed. After fussing underneath the blue comforter for a while in hopes of going back to sleep, a pair of dainty hands pushed it off of themselves, revealing a tangled mess of limbs. Obsidian eyes shot open in annoyance at the noise that had roused them from their state of rest and a pout settled upon the plump lips of one Momo Yaoyorozu. She found herself pushed to the taut chest of her boyfriend Shouto Todoroki, whose arms were lying securely around her waist. Wonderful! Usually she liked being held by him but not when his cellphone’s ringtone was blaring early in the morning and she was unable to reach it because of his tight grip on her, even when he was soundly asleep.

Soundly asleep.

As the thought slowly sinked in her drowsy mind, her eyes dilated in amazement. Shouto Todoroki was soundly asleep. Shouto Todoroki— the young man who never missed his alarms or calls, was never late for his duties as a pro hero, was always up and about without waking his girlfriend from her sweet dreams— was actually sleeping in?! With her years of training in stealth tactics, Momo raised her upper body as much as she could under his hold and picked up his phone from the side table. She disconnected what seemed to be the third call from his senior Burnin, switched off the device and went back to staring at her boyfriend in wonder. Although both of them are morning people, this is her first time rising earlier than him, her first time being able to gaze like this at his most unguarded form. It must be due to the successive late night patrolling duties he’d been doing most of the week along with regular missions in the morning. All this restless working was bound to take a toll on him sooner or later.

Her lips turned down and she looked worriedly at his face. Will it hurt him to take it easy every once in a while? Instinctively, she traced her fingers along his sharp jawline, going further down his long neck, finally coming to a halt upon his bare chest. She splayed her palm over his heart, feeling its recurring beating and placed a chaste kiss their so as to not stir him from his tranquil sleep.

Another thought crossed her mind as she watched the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest. How long had it been since she last cooked a meal for him? Probably a month? Well, its not like they really got any time for simple domestic things like those since they were both occupied with their hero work most of the time. She pressed her lips together, having an inner conflict with her own principles. She herself had never skipped a working day or requested a leave. She sincerely followed the rules and regulations set by her agency. But one glance at her innocently asleep boyfriend and she decided to break her code. She was sure people can live one day without the services of pro heroes Creati and Shouto.

With newfound determination, she sneakily wiggled out of his arms, looking back once to check if she had alerted him but luckily, his eyes were still shut placidly. She readjusted the straps of her silk, red slip on her shoulders and began crawling out of the bed. Her victorious smile however, was short-lived as the very same pair of arms she had pried away so smoothly, tugged at her nightwear, pulling her back. With a yelp, she landed clumsily atop a very conscious Shouto Todoroki who was staring pointedly at her.

“And where are you going?” he asked in his soft tenor, his disheveled crimson and snow locks making him all the more appealing.

“S-Shou..you..I thought you were..” She fumbled for words.

“Asleep?” he supplied and shook his head, “I’ve been awake ever since your lips touched my chest.” He explained gesturing at the spot she had kissed moments ago. “I was still kinda groggy so I kept my eyes closed. Also, I was curious about what you were up to.” He paused and looked intently at her, “Honestly, I had expected more kisses.”

Momo's face flushed a deep shade of pink. The young Todoroki always kept surprising her. She stared back at him, confused by his last statement. Did he like being kissed all over his torso? Was he really expecting that? If so, she would happily oblige, albeit slightly bashfully.

“Anyways,” he spoke, breaking her train of thought and flipped their positions so he was on top of her, “We both need to get to work.”

That said, he reached for his cellphone and frowned. Seeing as it was switched-off, he averted his questioning gaze towards his ebony haired girlfriend.

Momo bit her lip, her eyelids lowering in concern. “Overexertion is bad for health. You need to rest.”

“I can handle extra work.” He replied deadpan.

“I know!” she intoned in frustration, “I know, Shouto. You are strong, talented, hardworking and more than capable. But even you need breaks.”

“I’m supposed to run Endeavour Agency as its new Head.” Shouto reminded her, to which she narrowed her eyes.

“Exactly! You’re the one leading it now! You can make calls like these. I’m sure it won’t be a hassle for the Flaming Sidekickers to take care of the agency for a one day.” Momo reasoned weakly.

Shouto just stared at her, flashing her his best shocked expression. He wasn’t sure if his ears were functioning properly. Momo Yaoyorozu was asking him to misuse his authority to skip a day of work? The creation hero who had always been far more professional than him and the rest of her classmates at UA, was treating this as something so trivial? To say that it wasn’t amusing would be a lie but he didn’t want to be on the receiving end of his old man’s tantrums. He knew that Burnin and the other sidekicks will actually be partying over his absence from the agency because of their constant complaints about him never taking a day off but not his grumpy father. Yes, Enji Todoroki had stopped pushing his own wishes onto his son long ago as the older man had come to terms with the fact that his son wasn’t obligated to do so. Still, the retired man will lecture him about how nothing but the best was required of him as the heir to the Todoroki hero legacy.

Shouto noted the gleam of conviction in Momo’s eyes and discerned that he won’t be able to beat her. There’s no chance of victory once his girlfriend strived to achieve something. Hence, he wordlessly moved off of her and stood up from the bed, stretching his arms and cracking his neck. If he said nothing, he won’t have to face her logical arguments.

Momo shamelessly admired his naked torso, his rippling abs and the teasing v-line that disappeared beneath his low hanging shorts. She mentally slapped herself for forgetting about her real objective so easily and forced a serious countenance upon her face. The gears in her head began turning at a fast pace as she tried to come up with a plan to desist her boyfriend from leaving.

Just as the icy-hot hero turned around, an idea bubbled in her mind and she motioned herself forward towards him. Shouto froze (no pun intended) at the sensation of his girlfriend’s skilled fingers wrapping tantalizingly slowly around his abs. A traitorous groan escaped his lips as he let her pull him back onto the plush mattresses with little to no reluctance at all. He reveled in the touch of her soft lips trailing kisses along his nape and chiseled back. He closed his eyes and let his head fall back in pleasure as he felt her palms slide past his shorts, fingers ghosting over the elastic waistband of his boxers. He held his breath in anticipation of whatever more sensuous his girlfriend would do next.

To his utter dismay, nothing happened.

And just as he flicked his eyes open in discontentment, he felt himself being hauled onto the bed, an extremely serious Momo Yaoyorozu pinning him beneath her smaller frame. She entwined their fingers tightly, pushing his hands above his head and straddled him, puffing out a triumphant breath.

“Momo,” he called hoarsely, a hint of annoyance in his tone at being tricked.

She shook her head vigorously like a child and announced resolutely, “I’m not letting you go!”

Shouto watched her lie down next to him before she pulled him into an embrace and pouted. The aggravation in his form was immediately replaced by fondness and he chuckled lightly at how adorable she acted when she tried to act mad.

“What are you doing?” he asked, regarding her sudden peculiar behavior.

“I’m cuddling you till you give up on your intentions of going to work today.” She informed in a solemn voice, snuggling further into his chest.

“What?” he scoffed, finding her declaration completely childish yet cute at the same time.

it happened one night livewatch

last week this movie was on tv and i watched some of it in between classes, but was over by the end of school :/

luckily the library exists and i was able to get it! so in honor of my first half day of the year, i’ll be watching this classic movie!

first of all the dvd is cute :)
