An unappreciated problem with being a fan of both Very Old Stories (I dont know how to quantify this any other way I'm sorry) and Lord of the Rings (plus associated lore) is that I regularly get Gilgamesh and Gil-galad mixed up. And you would think this would not be a major problem, just an amusing quirk.
You, however, are not the one currently looking at a midterm where I wrote about the Epic of Gil-galad and its significance in our understanding of Ur.
That's not even CORRECT, it's about the city of URUK.
#the way my brain works under test-taking conditions should be studied scientifically#like technically i didnt say anything incorrect in my analysis but i did manage to get about every single name wrong#like yeah this IS significant to our understanding of their mythology and how the social hierarchy was constructed#but not of ur goddammit. of uruk.#im more mad about mixing up ur and uruk than i am about confusing gil-galad and gilgamesh. at least thats a funny mistake#my professor didnt actually take points off for calling him gil-galad which was very nice of her#and also makes me wonder if this is a problem she's had before#but you know what i did lose points for. mixing up ur and uruk. fuck me.#it would be one thing if i liked reading Very Old Stories for fun but nope this is part of my degree
