huh. in most of the groups i've played in, there's just as much (if not more) rules-bending and dicking around as taz balance.
i would blame it on the fact that a lot of the friends i play with are *also* taz fans but... the worst offenders are actually the players in my irl group who have never listened to a single episode of taz
The opposite of the Mercer Effect (where people listen to critical role and have unrealistically high expectations for the immersiveness of a campaign and expect Matt Mercer's energy and skill) is what I experienced, the Mcelroy effect, where you listen to TAZ and expect there to be way less rules and a lot more fucking around
#taz#that irl group has me one other player and the dm who are all big taz fans#who goof around but take things semi seriously#one player who read a couple of the taz graphic novels but never listened to the podcast#who goofs around a bit more than us#and then the two who never heard any taz#who goof around so much it's almost teetering from fun to annoying#i play a nasty little gnome named sugnflower goldegnshowers#whose main goal is to get his ex to take his pathetic ass back#and somehow i'm one of the most serious characters in that party#second to boaz who is the cleric and token Normal Guy#then we have: CJ (short for Crispy Jam)‚ philll and his familiar weaselll‚ and sir angus from the house of steak#my other parties aren't QUITE that silly but there's still a good bit of Shenanigans that go on
