Sometimes I just want to call the Heroes of Olympus series: "Everybody improves on Percy Jackson's impulsive mistakes (and more importantly, Rick Riordan's loose plot threads)." Because that's literally how these books feel to me. There's a reason I like them more, and it's probably because I feel they improve on the original Percy Jackson series in every conceivable way. It's like Rick Riordan realised his original books never definitively addressed everything, so he had to use his new books to fix everything.
Think about it. The Heroes of Olympus series does everything the Percy Jackson series didn't. Calypso is rescued. The minor gods earn their respect. We get a camp that doesn't sort people based on godly parent. Said camp also proves that demigods can live in peace. Camp Jupiter is like ten times better than Camp Half-Blood (in every way except for Lupa). And Octavian (personally) makes for a way more sympathetic antagonist then Luke Castellan. And Leo, Jason, Piper, Hazel and Frank all feel way more relatable than Percy (again, no offense meant).
