THE SECRET AFFAIR (Jason DiLaurentis x Liar!Reader): ⚫️summary; one year after Alison’s disappearance everything in Rosewood went haywire. Y/n, Aria’s maternal cousin & now 1/5 of the remaining Liars, who had either an equal amount or possibly even more secrets than her childhood friends, had been dating her now presumed dead best friend’s brother. That’s right, since before the summer of Alison’s disappearance Y/n & Jason had secretly been hooking up & began officially dating due to her helping him sober up & help him through his toughest nights that now gloomed over his past. She was his main alibi for the night everything happened with Alison but, obviously couldnt tell anyone why she was with him. So why now, that they’re finally putting Alison to rest does it all go to shit? Because the whole town believes one of the liars did it. ⚠️warnings; swearing, age gap relationship (Y/n is the same age as the girls but one of the oldest, so 5-6 years younger than Jason), adult themes, murder, gore-ish?, PLL shit dude, it’s crazy, 18+ ONLY!
Y/N’s POV (first day of Junior Year):
A banging on my door, or what I registered as banging woke me up as my alarm clock blared out loud.
“Y/n! Time to get up! You’ve got 20 before you and Aria have to go!” My aunt Ella announced as I sat up, groggy but somewhat at peace? It was weird ever since I saw Jason again, I felt like I could breathe again. Like everything was falling into place. I felt like myself.
“Getting ready now! Thanks Ella!” She never asked me to call her aunt, she hated the idea of forcing the title on me so, Ella it was. I put on a casual yet stylish outfit and headed to wash my face and do my morning hygiene. Bumping into Mike who just rolled his eyes half asleep.
I scoffed as I let his tween gestures roll off my back, he took it the hardest when I had to move in with them, he stated he already had one sister to hate, now he would be forced to have two? Aria and I met out by my old DeVille that I inherited from my mom, hopped in and drove to school. When we arrived I spotted a familiar car half a block away and Aria elbowed me.
“Go get him, i’ll wait for you inside.” She smirked as she slipped out of the car and was soon replaced by Jason sitting in her seat.
“Happy first day of Junior year, doll.”
He pulled a small box out of his jacket and handed it to me. Red, like the old streaks I used to have in my hair with a white bow wrapped around it. Inside was a silver locket, shaped like a heart with a rose on the front and our initials engraved on the back. I opened the heart to find a picture of us from the last time we saw each other.
“Jason! You didn’t have to do this! I love it, thank you.” I reached over the middle console and placed a small kiss to his cheek. He smiled as brightly as i’d ever seen and it brought a warmth to my heart.
“I missed that smile. Really, thank you for the gift.” He locked eyes with me while grabbing hold of the locket and gestured for me to turn, allowing him to place it on me. It was surreal, a year ago we had our entire lives uplifted because of Alison’s disappearance and Aria and I moved around the world. Now, it feels like everything was looking up. Until a sudden ding on my phone. I grab it quickly thinking it was Aria but was surprised to see a name I hadn’t since the summer before everything with Ali.
‘Isn’t Jason looking nice. Maybe this picture should be sent to everyone who would care. Maybe like the cops? -A’
The photo attached is he and I kissing the day I came back to Rosewood. My hand begins to shake and Jason takes notice. I lock my phone as he reaches for it and clear my throat.
“Just a text from my dad, haven’t heard from him in a while. Anyway, I have to get to class, Aria is waiting for me.” I smile and he kisses me tenderly.
“Alright, call me when you get out, maybe we can go for dinner or you can come over? Okay?” I nod and kiss him once more before we both exit the car. We never hid, only because of the age difference but recently this last week was perfect. We were more public but still a bit nervous of what everyone would think. I head into the school only for Aria to begin cheesing at me like crazy.
“Multiple kisses!?! The double exit from the car, the necklace!? God, you are so lucky!” She touches the necklace before linking our arms. She was always so supportive of Jason and I and I could not be more happy. Well, I could have.. Until the goddamn text.. How was I supposed to tell Aria? What if the others were getting them too? What if Jason was hurt? The day flew by fast and before I knew it, I was back in my car heading home with Aria blasting the radio. What am I going to do?
A/N: SO SORRY FOR THE DELAY BUT AFTER ALL OF THE POSITIVE RESPONSES TO THE FIRST PART I HAVE DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE STORY!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!! MORE TO COME!! 🩷

Chapter 9 of "Just as the stars love the night"
Mira's pov
"Liz? Lizzie!" Someone shouted from the other side of the large helicopter cargo bay and came walking quickly toward us. It was Hibana. She dropped to her knees beside me, gently took Eliza's face in her hands and stroked her cheeks with her thumbs.
With moisty eyes, she then looked at me.
"Why is she so cold? Why is she still unconscious? Mira what's happening to her?"
It was the first time in months that I saw her so upset and it made me anxious too. Thank God Doc came to the rescue.
"She's weak and Finka gave her an adrenaline boost to get her through, her body is exhausted. When we get to Nighthaven, we'll know more."
"Why Nighthaven? She has to go back home to us, right?"
Obviously Yumiko was a little out of it, or so it seemed so I took her in my arms to comfort her, that was something I had to remind myself lately, Yumi and Eliza were like sisters. Of course it was just as hard for her as it was for me. Even though I wanted to stay with Eliza, I trusted that she was safe so I took Hibana and sat with her a little further away. My arm around her shoulder, she leaned her head against mine and closed her eyes and I closed mine.
I really didn't want to fall asleep, but I was so damn tired.
When I woke up the last ones were packing up everything and leaving the helicopter. I rubbed my eyes and looked around, she was gone. I jumped up and ran, only to bump directly into Yumiko and Jordan.
"Where is she, where did they take her?"
I quickly tried to run past them but didn't get very far because they stopped me together.
"Mira you need to calm down, they took her to the infirmary right away, she's probably already in surgery. Remember she is in good hands. Gustave will take care of her himself and Nighthaven has fabulous doctors too. There's nothing you can do now anyway."
And that was the problem, I was once again powerless. Anyway, this was all my fault, if she hadn't left instead of me, I would be lying there now fighting for my life.
"That's not fair. She didn't deserve that."
Somewhat confused, they both looked at me.
"Of course not and that was never the point. She was just damn unlucky but at the same time incredibly lucky, after all she's still alive and back with us now."
Now it was up to Yumiko, she took me in her arms and hugged me tightly and it felt incredibly good.
Together we went inside where Ela was waiting for us, she led us to the common room which was a bit crowded because Nighthaven and Rainbow Operator met there together. What an unusual sight. Yesterday we were two rival almost enemy units and today we had worked and sat peacefully together.
We sat down at a free table and took off our still wet and cold armor. That would have to do, I would have plenty of time to change later. Someone handed out hot coffee and tea to everyone and small groups formed which now chatted boisterously with each other. Again and again, my old and new colleagues came by to inquire about me and wish me well, which drove me crazy and again and again I looked at the clock. Time passed so incredibly slowly.
Suddenly a small bright scream, startled I looked over to the door. Pulse was standing there, holding little Maho in his arms, who hurriedly came towards me and threw herself into my arms.
"Aunt Lena!!! We haven't seen each other for so long. Dad told me that you are here and also mom and Jordan and.... And then... And there are soooo many here!"
She barely managed to put it all into words. She jumped around on my lap and looked at me with big, shining eyes.
"And Dad said that Auntie Lizzie is here?! He said something really bad happened and that's why everyone thought she was gone forever but it was all just a big misunderstanding. He said she is really sick and she has to go to the doctor now."
It was all a bit much at once, I loved Maho but I was overwhelmed. How could I explain to a child what had happened? I could hardly handle it myself.
Yumiko probably saw what was going on and took her daughter in her arms.
"Hey baby, Aunt Lena is really tired. She's been on duty all day and is just waiting to see Auntie Lizzie and then it's off to bed for her. Speaking of bed... What are you doing here?"
Maho blushed and tried to avoid her mother's gaze.
"I was supposed to be sleeping, but I was so excited so I snuck past dad and when he caught me I said "please" until we got here."
Yumiko gave Jack a quick glance and then turned her attention back to Maho.
She's grown so much in the last few months and seeing her now brought out feelings of guilt in me. Only half a year ago she had been with us so often, stayed over, been on trips with us but after Eliza's supposed passing I had withdrawn too much, had no time left except for work. Damn it! Another thing I had screwed up.
The room emptied more and more from hour to hour. Meanwhile it became three o'clock in the morning and except the small kitchen radio it was quiet. Most of the people had already gone to bed, Kali had also provided rooms for her guests. After all her base was big enough.
Only she, Hibana and I were still there, waiting for something to happen. Another hour later, there was a knock on the door and a visibly exhausted Doc was standing there. I jumped up and went to meet him. The other two followed my lead.
I imagined the most horrible things, he would say she had not made it and that they had done everything but it had not been enough in the end. I felt dizzy, I had been awake for almost 30 hours now, apart from my little nap in the helicopter. I hadn't eaten anything since then either and the stress. I closed my eyes and tried to brace myself for the worst. Doc's voice just barely got through to me.
"It wasn't easy, but she'll survive."

Totally Spies (Valkyries) Chapter 9
@sunshinebingo @aelinchocolatelover
“And then, when my parents saw that we were covered in soot, my mom forced us to go outside and hosed us down like we were animals.” Gwyn finished the story of how her mother caught her and her sister sneaking in through the chimney.
Emerie and Nesta laughed, finishing up the pizza that they ordered a while ago. “Oh shit, your mother was ruthless,” Emerie commented making her and the others laugh more. “Yeah. The only mercy we got was that we left our clothes on. If it was pitch black, we would’ve been as bare as the day we were born.” Gwyn giggled as Nesta spit her soda out of her mouth, not being able to contain her laughter. “Man, I feel sorry for you.”
“Sorry? Gwyn got off easy,” Emerie said. “When I was grounded, my parents used to take my stuff away and give me only technology that was used from the 80s.” Nesta and Gwyn looked at her with shock. “The 80s?!”
“Hell yeah. I knew what a typewriter was back then.” Emerie laughed.
The girls heard a knock at Gwyn’s door. “Gwynie sweetie. Your friend’s uncle is here to pick her up.” Gwyn’s aunt Lou called from the other side of the door. After they went to Gwyn’s house, Nesta called her aunt and uncle and told them that she wanted to stay there for a few hours to work on homework. They’ve agreed to pick her up at around 7:30pm so she could get home. Because Emerie’s father was unable to drive, she also asked them if they could drop off Emerie first before they went home. Her uncle and aunt didn’t agree with the fact that they had to go to Windhaven, but if Emerie was her friend, they agreed.
The girls looked at each other with sadness. “Man, it was just starting to get fun,” Emerie complained as she and Nesta got up from the floor and put their finished homework in their bags. “Yeah. See you tomorrow at school, Gwyn.” Nesta said as Gwyn smiled. “See you tomorrow.”
----------------
“There, that’s the house,” Emerie claimed as Nesta’s uncle Fender drove them up to Emerie’s house. It was just like Nesta remembered. Dirty, dusty, and has likely been condemned for a long period of time. Grabbing her purple backpack, Emerie opened the car door and got out. “Thanks for the drive mister Archeron.”
“No problem, Emerie. Any friend of Nesta is a friend of mine.” Fender replied with a warm smile as he drove off. Emerie sighed and walked over to the front door and pushed it open. The house was a mess. Dirty dishes were still in the sink. Messy clothes all over the floor. And empty beer bottles cling to one another in a chorus of soundwaves. The smell of alcohol reached her nose like a slap to the face. “Dad, I’m home!” she called out, not bothering to hide the choke in her voice.
No answer.
Emerie felt her heart race. He couldn’t be gone. It was way too early for him to have a drink at this time of night. It was only 7:34pm.
Emerie rushed to her dad’s room. His room was the size of a college dorm. Small, with one twin bed, a nightstand to the left, and a lamp. She didn’t have to look further to know that he indeed was gone. “Maybe he was just getting food.” Emerie thought to herself, but she knew better than to know that. Her father never stepped out of the house unless it was for a drink. Emerie had to hide whatever money she could find from her father so she could spend it on food.
Emerie sat down on her father’s bed. “Maybe he’ll come back.” Mr. Keen always came back to his daughter. Or at least that was what Emerie thought. The longest he was gone for was 3 days. After that, Emerie couldn’t waste her time anymore and went out in search for her father. The first time she found him, he was hiding out under a beach house. Apparently, the police had come to arrest him for not leaving the property during curfew, but when they realized that he was asleep and didn’t hear the sirens, they let him off with a warning. Mr. Keen was able to walk back home, but when Emerie told him about what he did, he only brushed it off.
Emerie didn’t want to find out if he’d stay out longer, but a soft spot in her heart told her to wait a while until he returned. So, she waited for one hour. Then two. Three. The time was now 10:48pm. She hadn’t moved from the spot she sat in. She couldn’t take it anymore. She had to find her father. So, she called the only two people she could trust.
Whipping out her phone, Emerie dialed Nesta first. “Hey Nes, you awake? Good. Can you help me with something?”
--------------------
At around midnight, Emerie, Nesta, and Gwyn were all standing in front of one of the most popular clubs in Beverly Hills. Rita. This was where Emerie’s father would be. It was the first place he’d gone before he went to the gym. That was how Emerie was able to find her dad. She tracked his every move ever since she saw him drunk the first time. Emerie and her friends met up with her at her place wearing nothing but black. She told them that she’d promise to pay them back later for all of this, but Nesta and Gwyn only shrugged and said that they were more than happy to help her out.
Now, the three of them were all in black. “Are you sure we can get in, Em? We’re not even in high school yet.” Gwyn questioned as Emerie nodded. “Don’t worry. There are too many people tonight. And they’re all drunk so they won’t think we’re kids. So just stay close to me, don’t interact with them. And whatever you do, don’t accept anything these assholes give to you. It’s nothing but smoke and alcohol in this joint.” Emerie finished explaining as Nesta nodded in understanding. Gwyn gulped but held her head up high. “Alright, let’s do this.”
Nesta walked up first and opened the door to the club. The club was filled with drunk people like Emerie said. They were either dancing, singing, or having sex. Nesta averted her eyes from the sex part and turned back to her friends. “s. “I don’t think they see us,” she said as Emerie and Gwyn walked in after her. “C’mon, my father always sits in the same spot,” Emerie said as the girls followed her to the back of the club.
As the girls made it through the crowd, Mr. Keen was there, sitting near the booth and with- Emerie froze. It was a woman. She looked no older than 21 like everyone else. She was wearing a stripper outfit and was kissing her father, lip, and tongue. Emerie covered her mouth to keep from gasping. She knew her father was a drunk, but she didn’t that he’d-
She shook it off. Her father needed to get home. “Em? You, okay?” Nesta asked with sincerity. Giving them a slight nod, Emerie walked up to her father. “Dad?” Immediately, her father and the stripper froze to turn to her. The stripper looked at her father with disgust. “You have a kid?!” she cried as Mr. Keen chuckled. “What’re you talking about? She’s not mine.”
“Daddy, please!” Emerie pleaded as the stripper got off of her father. “Gross.” she spat at his face, turned her heels, and left the booth. “C’mon baby, come back.” Mr. Keen tried to call out, but the stripper paid no attention to him.
Sighing out of frustration, Mr. Keen turned to his daughter. “Now look what you did. That girl was gonna give us our next rent,” he complained as Emerie glared at him, her pleading and fake tears gone from her face. “Shut up dad,” she said as she grabbed his wrist. “We’re going home.” Mr. Keen, furious, pushed his daughter to the ground, startling her. Emerie landed with a thud as Gwyn and Nesta came to check on her. “I don’t wanna go home.” Mr. Keen whined as Nesta growled at him. “Can I please punch him?” Nesta asked rather politely even though she was trying really hard to control her answer. As much as that would be satisfying, Emerie shook her head and stood up. “Dad, you’re drunk. It’s a work night. Come on, let’s go home.”
“I said I don’t wanna go home.”
“Yo, Keen!” The girls and Emerie’s father turned to the voice. It was a man. He was tall and bald and was wearing a waiter outfit. Emerie immediately recognized him as the bartender. “You know the rules, no kids allowed.”
“She isn’t my-”
“Quit lying dumbass. Now leave before I kick you out for life.” The bartender commanded as Mr. Keen groaned and grabbed a half-empty bottle of beer. He turned to Emerie. “You’re lucky you get to stay in my house. You’d be on the street if it weren’t for me.” Neither of the girls bother to comment as they led Mr. Keen out of the club.
-------------------
As they walked out of the club, Mr. Keen turned to the girls. “I can’t believe you would do something like that. Embarrassing me in front of my friends.” Emerie opened her mouth to speak but Gwyn beat her to it. “You don’t have any friends.” Gwyn gasped and covered her mouth, too late to take back the words she said. Mr. Keen glared at her with threatening eyes. “Stay out of this, midget.” he insulted as Gwyn turned away to try and dry her tears before he could see her cry.
Nesta stepped on the man’s foot. “Don’t call her that, asshole.” she threw back as Emerie’s father rubbed his foot on his back leg. Emerie put her arms in front of her friends. Only rarely does her father get mad whenever he was drunk. When he was made, he would smash the house with glass and anything that was breakable. He had only been violent with her a couple of times, but during those times, he had only pushed her and sometimes grabbed her wrist too hard. She didn’t know what he would do to her friends. “Didn’t anyone tell you to respect your elders?” Mr. Keen fired back as Nesta stuck her tongue out.
Mr. Keen drank the bottle he was holding and smashed it to the ground, making the girls flinch. “Dammit, it’s gone. It’s all gone!” he cried talking about the beer he finished drinking.
Nesta rolled her eyes. “You drunk it all idiot.” Nesta meant to say it in a whisper, but Emerie’s father heard her. He snapped his neck up and grabbed Nesta by the collar of her neck. “What did you just say to me?”
“Dad, stop it!” Emerie cried, as her father pushed her down again. Nesta didn’t appear intimidated. She only smirked. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were hard at hearing.” Nesta said, the anger in Mr. Keen’s eyes fuming with rage. Emerie noticed that her father was clenching his fist. She gasped. “Dad don’t!” she cried fearing that he would actually punch a child. Mr. Keen raised his fist and stopped short.
The punch was in midair, frozen. As a matter of fact, Mr. Keen’s entire body was frozen. After a quick second, he lost his grip on Nesta who fell to the ground landing on her feet. “Uh, dad?” Emerie said as her father’s entire body fell to the ground hard. After a moment, Gwyn spoke. “Um, what just happened?”
“I happened.” The girls turned towards the figure to see their friend, Azriel.

A Day to Ourselves
This happens so infrequently that it must be documented any time it does.
The kids’ aunt came by this morning to scoop them up and take them our for lunch, then swimming at the lake, and finally, dinner. That meant it was just the two of us for the majority of the day. What ever would we do with ourselves?
I’ll tell you: absolutely nothing. I don’t remember the last time we had a day like this where there was absolutely nothing on our to-do list. No one to take care of, no tasks to complete, nothing. So we took not one, but TWO naps. Pretty wild, right? We found ourselves so incredibly tired that we laid on the bed and passed out.
When we woke up, we headed to Toyota so PJ could test drive this truck that might just be the one. TBD, but we both do love it, and it’s a really great deal, so we’ll see what happens. After that, we drove around town and went for a late lunch at our favorite local spot.
When we got home, the clouds started to roll in and the wind picked up, making every single tree branch sway so hard I thought they were about to break and fall on top of our house. Luckily, they didn’t. The storms just brought a ton of rain and wind and some of the most stentorian thunder I’ve ever heard. My favorite kind of day. I turned on all the lamps and lit a candle and we both just relaxed on the couch for a while as the storm came through.
As it slowly passed, PJ started making potato salad for our day on the river at my brother’s tomorrow, and I ran to the store to get all the food to cookout. By the end of the night, the kids and PJ were at his mom’s house next door with his older sister and her kids and his younger sister. I met them over there when I got home and we all hung out for a bit before dragging ourselves home, utterly worn out for various reasons.
And now we are sitting on the couch about to turn Netflix on, and I am feeling grateful for today and for family and for my guy. Sometimes it just feels best to do absolutely nothing at all.

January 4, 1992
Dear friend,
I’m sorry for that last letter. To tell you the truth, I don’t really remember much of it, but I know from how I woke up that it probably wasn’t very nice. All I remember from the rest of that night was looking all over the house for an envelope and a stamp. When I finally found them, I wrote your address and walked down the hill past the trees to the post office because I knew that if I didn’t put it in a mailbox that I couldn’t get it back from, I would never mail the letter. It’s weird how important it seemed at the time.
Once I got to the post office, I dropped the letter into the mailbox. And it felt final. And calm. Then, I started throwing up, and I didn’t stop throwing up until the sun came up. I looked at the road and saw a lot of cars, and I knew they were all going to their grandparents’ house. And I knew a lot of them would watch my brother play football later that day. And my mind played hopscotch. My brother. Football. Brad. Dave and his girlfriend in my room. The coats. The cold. The winter. “Autumn Leaves". Don’t tell anyone you pervert. Sam and Craig. Sam. Christmas. Typewriter. Gift. Aunt Helen. And the trees kept moving... they just wouldn’t stop moving. So I laid down and made a snow angel.
The policemen found me pale blue and asleep. I didn’t stop shivering from the cold until a long time after my mom and dad drove me home from the emergency room. Nobody got in trouble because these things used to happen to me when I was a kid when I was seeing the doctors. I would just wander off and fall asleep somewhere. Everyone knew I went to a party, but nobody, not even my sister, thought it was because of that. And I kept my mouth shut because I didn’t want Sam or Patrick or Bob or anyone to get in trouble. But most of all, I didn’t want to see my mother’s face and especially my father’s if they heard me say the truth.
So, I didn’t say anything. I just kept quiet and looked around. And I noticed things. The dots on the ceiling. Or how the blanket they gave me was rough. Or how the doctor’s face looked rubbery. Or how everything was a deafening whisper, when he said that maybe I should start seeing a psychiatrist again. It was the first time a doctor ever told that to my parents with me in the room. And his coat was so white. And I was so tired.
All I could think through the whole day was that we missed my brother’s football game because of me, and I really hoped my sister thought to tape it. Luckily, she did. We got home, and my mom made me some tea, and my dad asked me if I wanted to sit and watch the game, and I said yes. We watched my brother make a great play, but this time, nobody really cheered. All corners of all eyes were on me. And my mom said a lot of encouraging things about how I was doing so well this school year and maybe the doctor would help me sort things out. My mom can be quiet and talk at the same time when she’s being positive. My dad kept giving me “love pats.” Love pats are soft punches of encouragement that are administered on the knee, shoulder, and arm. My sister said that she could help me fix up my hair. It was weird to have them pay so much attention to me.
“What do you mean? What’s wrong with my hair?”
My sister just kind of looked around, uncomfortable. I reached my hands up to my hair and realized that a lot of it was gone. I honestly don’t remember when I did it, but from the look of my hair, I must have grabbed a pair of scissors and just started cutting without strategy. Big chunks of it were missing all over the place. It was like a butcher’s cut. I hadn’t looked at myself in the mirror at the party for a long time because my face was different and frightened me. Or else I would have noticed. My sister did help me trim it up a bit, and I was lucky because everyone in school including Sam and Patrick thought it looked cool. “Chic” was Patrick’s word. Regardless, I decided to never take LSD again.
Love always, Charlie.

Oh Brother
Pairing: Peter Parker x Flash’s sister!reader
Requested by @forlaughingoutl0ud : Peter has a crush on you, despite how much your brother torments him
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Flash was known to torment Peter.
You, being Flash’s sister, were known to defend Peter from your brothers antics.
“Morning, Penis Parker.” Flash came up to Peter at his locker. “What did you have for breakfast this morning? Food stamps?”
Before Peter could respond, you appeared behind Flash and grabbed his ear.
“Ow! Ow ow ow ow!” He whined as you pulled him by the ear, dragging him away from Peter. Peter watched you with a smile as you dragged your brother away.
“Let’s go.” You sighed. “If you’re late to homeroom, Mrs. Weiss is gonna send a note home. Again.”
It was an every day occurrence.
“Nice shoes, Parker.” Flash snorted. “Dumpster diving is so amazing these days, isn’t it?”
“Oh my God, you’re so funny.” You whipped around in your seat and narrowed your eyes at your brother. “Tell us another one. Please?”
He liked it to keep it consistent.
“Can anyone tell me what this number is?” Your teacher asked as she wrote the digits of Pi, 3.14, on the board.
“It’s Parker’s annual income.” Flash called out, earning a few laughs.
“Why is it that no one ever wants to hear you speak and yet you’re always talking?” You piped up in Peters defense. The class “ooed” at your comeback and Peter smiled shyly to himself.
“Whatever.” Flash scoffed. “You look fat today.”
“I’m sorry, Peter.” You directed your attention to Peter. “He’s a little cranky this morning.”
“It’s okay.” He smiled sheepishly. You smiled back and shot him a wink before turning around in your seat.
And that was when Peter realized he was whipped for you.
“Can anyone tell me what an impulse is?” The teacher asked the class one day. “Yes, Flash?”
“It’s something you really want to do and have no control over.” Flash answered. “Like when I give Peter a wedgie during gym class, I did it on an impulse. That means I can’t be held responsible.”
“No.” The teacher signed. “Can anyone else tell me what it is? Yes, Peter?”
“A change in momentum.” Peter said, just a little smugly. “Ft equals mv minus mu.”
“Thank you, Peter.” The teacher smiled. “That’s right.”
“I was technically also right.” Flash spoke up. “You didn’t specify what context it was in.”
“This is a physics class.” You laughed. “That’s your context.”
“Whatever. You don’t have to defend him just because he has a giant crush on you.” Flash shot back and the class reacted accordingly. It was common knowledge that Peter had feelings for you and Flash liked to use that to his advantage.
“What? No I don’t.” Peter stammered. “That would be stupid.”
“Why would it be stupid?” You looked at him curiously, sending a flush across his face.
“Ladies and gentlemen. Can we get back to the lesson, please?” Your teacher asked through a tight smile. “You three can sort this out in your free time.”
“Lucky for us, Peter never has anything but free time.” Flash taunted. “Being poor really opens up your schedule.”
“Leave him alone, Eugene.” You snapped. “This is why mom doesn’t love you.”
“She does too!” Flash took the bait. “You’re the adopted one.”
“I know.” You shrugged smugly. “Our parents chose me. You were just an unfortunate accident.”
“My existence is not unfortunate.” He stated.
“Aren’t you a Gemini?” You raised an eyebrow.
“Yes.” He said.
I’m a Gemini too I’m so sorry
“Then yeah, it is.” You scrunched your nose. The class stopped laughed at Peter and directed their attention to Flash. Peter looked at you in amazement and you winked at him.
“Thompsons.” The teacher interrupted. “I want you out of this class. Both of you. Now.”
You glared at your brother angrily as you grabbed your bag and headed towards the door.
“This is all your fault.” He growled at you as he opened the door.
“Oh, please.” Your argument was muffled as you made your way down the hallway.
Peter’s leg bounced in anticipation as he waited for the bell to ring, springing out of his seat as soon as it did. He immediately went to your locker, where you were busy putting your books away. Peter took a deep breath before he approached you, nervously making the first move.
“Hey.” He spoke up, making you turn your head in his direction. You shot him a smile that heated his entire face up.
“Hey, Peter.” You greeted. “Did I miss anything fun in physics?”
“Not really.” He shrugged. “Unless you like learning about momentum.”
“You know what, Peter? I can’t say I do.” You chuckled as you took a notebook out of your locker.
“Thanks for sticking up for me before. I’m sorry you got kicked out of class.”
“Don’t be sorry.” You shook your head and shut your locker. “It was totally worth it to put Flash in his place. Plus, I’m totally gonna dip his toothbrush in the toilet later. Walk with me.”
He began to walk with you out of school and in the direction of the residential buildings.
“Do siblings do that?” He wondered. “I’m an only child.”
“Are you? You’re so lucky.” You sighed. “Do you know how many times I’ve fallen into the toilet because he left the seat up?”
“Yeah, thats never happened to me.” He laughed gently. “I take it you guys don’t get along.”
“It’s weird with siblings.” You shrugged. “One minute we hate each other, the next minute we’re talking about the stupid games we used to play on long car rides. There’s no way to describe it.”
“I can’t imagine living with him. It’s hard enough to spend 8 hours a day with him. No offense.” He added quickly.
“None taken.” You smiled at him. “It’s not fun to live with him. The amount of times I’ve walked into the bathroom after him and choked on his body spray is unacceptable. I think he’s trying to kill me.”
“I would be very upset if he did that.” Peter said softly.
“Did what?”
“Killed you.” He looked at you and held your gaze for a moment. You smiled shyly at each other before looking straight ahead.
“What did you mean before when you said it would be stupid to have a crush on me?” You wondered out loud.
“Oh, I don’t know.” Peter rubbed the back of his neck. “Flash has just been bullying me since first grade. It would be stupid if the girl I decided to pine after was his sister.”
“I don’t think that would be stupid.” You shrugged as you snuck a glance at him. Peter blinked in surprise as he made eye contact with you. You both stopped, standing alone in an alleyway now.
“You…you don’t?” He looked at you shyly.
“Not at all.” You shook your head slowly as you took a step closer to him. Peter looked at his shoes for a moment as he gathered some courage, just enough to do what he’d been meaning to do for years now.
“Would you wanna go out sometime then?” He blurted. “Like, on a date?”
“I’d love to.” You smiled. “You still have my number from that group project right?”
“Yeah.” He nodded, still swimming from the fact your said yes.
“Then you should text me.”
“I will.” He promised.
“Good. I have to walk back to school before Flash notices I’m gone. I’ll be waiting for that text.” You winked at him and he let out a flustered laugh. You took this as an opportunity to lean forward and press a kiss to his cheek, feeling his skin heat up beneath your lips. You pulled away and squeezed his hand before leaving him alone in the alley.
Yeah, he was definitely whipped.
“Penis Parker.” Flash slammed an open hand against the lockers next to Peter the following day. “Do you want to tell me why I kept seeing your name on my sister phone last night? Why were you texting her? Are you trying to colonize my families bloodline or something? No white men allowed.”
“What? And no.” Peters face heated up at the accusation. “We’re just friends.”
“You don’t have friends.” Flash snapped.
“Yes he does.” You appeared behind your brother and pushed him lightly. “That’ll be all, thank you.”
Flash narrowed his eyes at you before returning his attention to Peter.
“If you go near my sister again, I’m gonna turn your innie belly button into an outie.” Flash whispered.
“How?” Peter asked with genuine curiosity.
“You don’t want to find out.” He said through gritted teeth before storming away.
“He’s so annoying.” You rolled your eyes and leaned against Peters locker. “You look cute today.”
“Thanks.” Peter chuckled shyly as he looked down at his outfit. “I, um, I have a dilemma.”
“Is this about our date?” You worried.
“It’s just, your family is rich and my family is just me and my aunt. I know Flash makes a lot of jokes about me being poor, but they’re not really jokes.” He explained sheepishly. “I don’t think I can give you the kind of magical date you deserve.”
“Peter, I don’t need a fancy date. I just want to be with you.” You assured him as you stroked his cheek. “Why don’t you bring your favorite snack and I’ll bring my favorite drink and we can lay on top of your building and stargaze?”
“That sounds kinda perfect.” He admitted with a sly smile.
“Does tonight work?” You asked hopefully.
“Yeah.” He nodded. “I’ll text you my address.”
“Okay. I’ll see you in Physics.” You squeezed his hand before walking away.
You walked into your living room that night, all dressed up for your date. You stopped in front of a mirror to check your makeup, accidentally catches Flash’s eye.
“You look nice.” Flash said as his eyes flicked from you to his phone. “But you know, prostitution is still illegal in New York. It’s a damn shame, though. Sex work is still work.”
“You know, every once in a while, something intelligent comes out of your mouth. Gives me goosebumps every time.” You teased him as you applied your lipgloss.
“Wait, where are you going?” He put his phone down. “It’s a Wednesday night.”
“I’m going to a friends building to look at the stars.” You told him most of the truth.
“Are you walking there?”
“Yeah.” You shrugged. “It’s not that far.”
“Let me drive you. You have your mace on you, right?” He asked from the kitchen as he grabbed his keys.
“Always.”
“Okay.” He reappeared with his keys. “Let’s go.”
You kept light conversation as you drove to Peters apartment building, careful not to reveal who you were meeting. Flash parked out front and looked at the building in disdain.
“Your friend lives here?” He grimaced. “Is she poor?”
“Shut up. Those jokes aren’t nice.” You shoved him lightly. “Thanks for driving me.”
“It’s okay.” He nodded. “Text me when I should pick you up.”
“I will. Get home safe.” You told him as you got out of the car.
“Whatever. Don’t get pregnant.” He pointed at you. “I mean it.”
“Drive away.” You rolled your eyes as you shut the car door. You walked into the lobby and found the elevator, letting out a nervous breath as you got in. You were standing in from of Peters door in no time, anxiously waiting for him to open it.
Finally, he did.
“Are you ready to stargaze?” You asked as you held up a jug of apple juice.
“Are you ready to eat this entire box of goldfish?” Peter responded as he held up a carton of goldfish.
“You know it.” You laughed and grabbed his hand. “Let’s go.”
An hour later, you were lying on your backs in opposite directions with your heads pressed together, staring up at the stars.
“I don’t think there’s anything more beautiful than a night sky.” You sighed in content.
“I know something.” Peter looked at you, though you were upside down from his perspective.
“If you say me, I’m going kick you in the throat.” You laughed as you looked at him.
“Why?” He laughed as well.
“I don’t know.” You covered your face with your hands. “I’m not good with compliments. I don’t know how to respond.”
Peter turned his head so he was looking at you, eyes trailing over your side profile.
“I think you’re beautiful.” He told you, loving the way it made your draw drop. You rolled onto your side and looked at him before rolled on top. You rested your arms on either side of his face, admiring his face in the starlight, even if it was upside down. Your eyes flickered from his lips to his eyes and before he knew it, you were kissing him. He tilted his chin up so he could kiss you back, finding the position a little awkward as your nose bumped his chin. You both giggled into the kiss before continuing, only breaking away when you needed air. You flipped back on your back and let out a happy sigh, covering your face with your hand to hide your smile.
“That’s one way to respond.” Peter joked, breaking the silence. You laughed and rolled onto your side, him doing the same.
“I really like you.” You admitted, scrunching your nose at how weird it felt to say out loud.
“I really like you too.” Peter told you before leaning in for another kiss.
And that was the beginning of your relationship. You both knew Flash could not find out that you were dating, at least not yet. You had to cave and tell him you and Peter were friends around your second month of dating after he caught him in your room, but you didn’t tell him the full extent of your relationship. You disguised dates as casual hangouts, to which Flash heavily objected. He made his disliking for your “friendship” with Peter known.
“Ugh. You two.” Flash grumbled when he came into the kitchen to find you and Peter making cookies. You gave Peter a pointed look that told him to ignore your brother as Flash got food out of the pantry.
“Cracker.” He looked at Peter with a box of snacks in his hands.
“No thank you.” Peter said politely.
“I wasn’t offering. I was insulting.” Flash blew him a kiss before putting a cracker in his mouth. Peter looked at you for help and you gave him a sympathetic smile.
“How are you two friends?” He wondered. “You’re the worst people on the planet.”
“I beg to differ.” Peter began. “I think-“
“The beg.” Flash snapped before winking at Peter.
“We’re friends because we have similar interest.” You shrugged as you stirred the ingredients. “For example, we’re both very interested in you leaving the room.”
“Whatever. I was just making sure Parker doesn’t steal anything.” Flash shot daggers at Peter as he got a drink from the refrigerator. You and Peter stood in silence until you were sure Flash was gone, sighing in relief when he disappeared.
“Do you think he knows?” You whispered to Peter out of the corner of your mouth.
“He doesn’t suspect a thing.” Peter shook his head before pulling you into a kiss.
This was how it continued for month. You posed as friends and dated in secret, never letting your brother know the truth.
“Guess who?” You felt hands cover your eyes from behind. You immediately recognized Peters voice and turned around in his arms.
“What are you doing here?” You looked at him with wide eyes. “Flash could walk in at any minute.”
“I wanted to surprise you.” He smiled. “Happy three month anniversary, princess.”
“Happy anniversary, lover.” You smiled back at him before pulling him into a long kiss. For once, you didn’t care if your brother walked in. All you cared about was Peter.
“I have something for you.” Peter smirked once he pulled away.
“What? You didn’t have to get me anything.” You told him.
“Course I did.” He shrugged as he took a small box out of his pocket. “It’s okay if you didn’t get me anything.”
“I didn’t say I didn’t get you anything.” You winked at him before disappearing into your closet. You returned with a large carton of Goldfish with a bright red bow on it.
“Goldfish!” He lit up. “You remembered.”
“Of course I did, lover. How could I forget the taste of your goldfish breath the first time I kissed you?” You teased him as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Well you must’ve like it since you’ve come back for more everyday since.” He shot back before kissing you. “Open yours.”
You took the box from him and opened it up, finding a hand maid needed bracelet with a moon decal that looked like Peter had carved himself.
“The moon?” You looked up at him with a curious smile.
“It’s a waxing crescent. That’s what the moon looked like the night you kissed me. I have a matching one, see?” He held up his wrist to show you his bracelet. You stated at it for a moment before your eyes went back to his gift.
“Peter.” You mumbled without taking your eyes away from the bracelet.
“Do you like it?” He bit his lip as he waited for your reaction. You looked up at him with a grin before throwing your arms around his neck and squeezing him tightly.
“I love it.” You said into his ear. “Thank you so much.”
“I’m so glad you like it.” He smiled at you for a moment before getting serious. As he was looking at you, he realized he had never trusted someone more. Something came over him that made him want to give you every thing he had, including his deepest secret.
“I have to tell you something. No, I, I want to tell you something.” He corrected. “I’ve wanted to tell you for a while, actually. Um, this is so hard to say, wow.”
“It’s okay, Peter.” You put your hand in his face when you saw how flustered his was getting. “I love you too.”
Peter’s face drained of color at your confession as that was not at all what he was about to say.
“What?” He squeaked.
“I love you too.” You repeated, not understanding his confusion.
“That’s…that’s not what I was gonna say.” He blurted and your face fell.
“Oh.” You withdrew your arms from around his neck, feeling embarrassment and disappointment all at once. Peter realized his mistake and tried to pull you back.
“No, no.” Peter said quickly. “I was gonna tell you I’m Spider-Man.”
“What?” You nearly screamed.
“But I love you too! I love you so much.” He took your face in his hands and kissed you repeatedly.
“You’re Spider-Man?” You pushed him away long enough to ask.
“Yes. But more importantly, we’re in love!” He kissed you again. “Happy three months.”
“Happy three months.” You giggled between kisses.
You stood with Peter outside of school a few months later as you waited for Flash to come out.
“This is my least favorite part of the day.” Peter pouted as he rubbed your hand with his thumb.
“Why?” You tilted your head.
“I don’t get to see you anymore.” He looked at you with a shy smile. You smiled back at his cuteness and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
“Marching band ends at 4 right? How about I come over after that? We can do anything you want.” You suggested as you played with the collar of his shirt.
“Anything I want?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah. I’m feeling generous.” You shrugged. You were about to lean in to kiss him when you noticed your brother in the distance.
“Oh no.” You sighed and stepped back from Peter. “Don’t turn around.”
“Hey Penis Parker.” Flash jumped behind Peter and smacked his butt before looking at you. “Sup bitch.”
“Hi Flash.” You smiled tightly at him.
“What are you losers taking about?” He asked. “How you’re never gonna lose your virginities?”
You and Peter exchanged a knowing look and he turned his head to snort.
“We’re talking about how grabbing peoples butts without their permission is sexual harassment.” You spoke up to cover Peters laugh.
“Oh, really? That’s cool.” He smacked Peters butt again. “Are you ready to go? My car is on and she’s ready to purr.”
“God, I hate you.” You sighed. “I’ll see you later, Peter.”
“See you later. Bye.” He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to your lips, entirely forgetting that Flash was there. Your eyes widened as Peter was about to walk away, but Flash held his hand up to stop him.
“Hold up.” He looked at Peter. “What was that?”
Peter furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and looked at you, only realizing his mistake when he noticed your messed up lipstick. He let out a small gasp before looking at Flash, who was shaking with anger.
“Um…physical affection?” Peter said weakly. You slammed your palm against your forehead and let out a sigh.
“Thanks for the run down, Penis Parker.” Flash snapped. “You’re dating my sister?”
“Yeah, Flash.” You put a hand on Peters shoulder. “Peter and I are dating.”
“Excuse me a minute.” He held up and finger before bending down as if he was going to puke. “BLEH.”
You rolled your eyes as your brother continued to make puking sounds.
“I cannot stand this man.” You grumbled. Flash stopped for a moment and stood up, looking eerily composed.
“Y/n, could you give Peter and I a minute to ourselves, please?” He said through a tight smile.
“Um, are you gonna kill him?” You scratched your ear as you looked between your fearfully boyfriend and your suspiciously calm brother.
“I haven’t decided yet.” Flash said, never breaking his smile.
“Don’t go.” Peter looked at you in fear.
“You’ll be okay.” You decided. “I’ll be right over there.”
Flash waited until you walked away until he started interrogating Peter.
“How long had this been going on?” Flash started out.
“Seven months.” Peter told him.
“Is it serious?”
“I love her.” Peter smiled shyly.
“Gross.” Flash gagged. “Does she love you back?”
“Yes.” Peter nodded. “She tells me everyday.”
“So every time I drove into the slums of New York to drop her off at the cardboard box you call an apartment building, I was dropping her off at your place? I was hand delivering my sister to you?” Flash realized.
“Yes.” Peter repeated. “Are you mad?”
“You know what”,Flash let out a breath, “I’m okay.”
“You are?” Peters jaw dropped a little. He had been expecting a beating, or at least a wedgie.
“Yeah.” Flash put his hand on Peters shoulder and rubbed it. “She couldn’t be in better hands, Spiderman.”
He had whispered the last part, making all the blood drain from Peters face.
“How did you-“
“I eavesdrop on people constantly.” Flash cut him off. “I can’t stop. My therapist says it’s because I didn’t get enough attention as a kid, but what does that bitch know? I overheard her husband on the phone telling her that their kid bit somebody again. Again! I never did that. The moon bracelet was a nice touch, by the way. She really likes it.”
“You just told me way too much about you.” Peter blinked a few times as he processed what he just heard.
“Now we’re even.” Flash smirked and shot him a wink.
“Are you gonna tell anyone?” He asked nervously.
“Course not. I would do anything for Spider-Man.” Flash stated firmly. “That secret is safe with me. I am, however, gonna tell everyone that you and her are dating.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s super embarrassing for her. Later, Parker.” He held out his hands for Peter to shake, pulling him in when their hands touched.
“Swing me around the city in your arms and I won’t kill you for dating my sister.” He whispered in Peters ear. Peter looked at him in fear as he walked away. You immediately ran up to Peter once your brother was gone and put a hand on his arm.
“What happened?” You asked. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Peter told you. “I think I have a date with your brother.”
“You - huh?” You asked for clarification but Peter just shook his head.
“I don’t know.” He sighed in defeat. “I’ll text you after band practice.”
“Yeah I’ll-“ You were cut off by Flash honking his horn and calling your name.
“I’ll text you later.” You grumbled and shot a look at Flash.
“Okay.” Peter kissed you before you began to walk away. “I love you.”
“I love you.” You called over your shoulder as you made your way to Flash’s car. Upon hearing this, Flash just had to chime in.
“I love you too Penis Parker!”

Dinos and Tigers and Donuts, Oh My!
Summary: Spencer wanted one thing this year: for your kids to plan his perfect Father’s Day Pairing: Spencer Reid x fem!Reader Includes: dad!Spencer, heavy mentions of Father’s Day, mentions and consumption of food Category: Fluff Word Count: 2.6k A/N: This isn’t my favorite, but it’s been sitting in my drafts for awhile all the same! Happy Sunday ♥️
When Spencer was called away on cases your house seemed to lose a bit of its charm.  Mornings felt more tiring than ever before, the afternoon slumps dragged on for what seemed like years, and dinners, even with babbling five and seven-year-olds at your side, were a little too quiet.
This time around though, things were different.  You woke up to your five-year-old daughter sitting by your feet, her mind preoccupied by one of the search and find books Spencer had bought her the week prior.
The space next to you was empty, a piece of paper lying where your husband previously was, and you knew exactly what it was going to say before you even picked it up.
Good morning, love,
I got called on a case this morning, but it’s local and the team thinks we can wrap it up by tonight.  The kids both ate breakfast- and PSA that they were a little too excited I was going to be gone for the day.  I don’t know what they’re planning, but good luck.  I love you, and I’ll see you soon.
-Spencer
Unlike Spencer, you knew exactly what the kids were excited for, and it had everything to do with Father’s Day being tomorrow- you just hoped he would be home in time to celebrate like he predicted.
You folded the letter and placed it in your nightstand along with the others you’ve found gracing his pillow in years past when your bedroom door opened just the slightest amount.
In walked your seven-year-old son, comically exaggerating his tip toe motions as he stage whispered to his sister.
“Is Mommy still sleeping?” He shifted his gaze in your direction, all effort to keep quiet out the window when he saw your eyes meet his.
“Mom! Guess what?” you opened your mouth to respond, but your daughter beat you to the punch.
“Daddy left for a work trip this morning!  So, we can make our plan today while he isn’t here!”
There was no denying that your kids loved their daddy, that was for sure.
“That’s so great!” you matched their enthusiasm with ease, getting ready for the day while they kept brainstorming in the background.
Just last week, you had asked Spencer what he wanted to do for Father’s Day over dinner, and the children were as attentive as ever, eyes wide and lips pursed as they waited to hear the plans for the big day.
But, to their amusement, Spencer’s only plan was that they plan the entire day.  His reasoning was that they were the reason he was a dad so they should be the ones to decide what to do, but really you knew the truth was that he overheard their whispers about having the perfect plan for his day.
A plan you were finally going to be let in on, so it seemed.
The three of you made your way down to the kitchen where you settled down with your breakfast, eyebrows raised in enjoyment at your children.  They were sat across from you with a stash of markers and fresh index cards, and they had a few stacks of previously filled out index cards resting along the center of the table.
Ah- so that’s where they’re going with this.
It had become a bit of a family tradition to have a family scavenger hunt whenever you had a full weekend together.  You and Spencer were all too familiar with the concept of cherishing the time you have with your loved ones, and there were many a weekend where Spencer was called away, or you were busy with a million other plans ranging from extended family gatherings to birthday parties or weddings.
It was all the more reason to make the moments where it was just the four of you count even more- and thus, family scavenger hunts were born.
When they were toddlers, the scavenger hunts centered around finding certain shapes or colors, be it in the house or at the park.  Once every item was checked off you would have a family outing of their choice: the go to choice used to be another trip to the park (the one with the ‘fancier’ slides this time), but with the upgrade to slightly harder scavenger hunts centered on science and math they’ve upped their prize to ice cream.
What could you say? They were Spencer’s kids through and through.
“Wow!” you exclaimed, relishing in the beaming smiles on their faces, “do you guys want to make a scavenger hunt for daddy?”
Two enthusiastic faces nodded eagerly in your direction as your son grabbed one of the red markers.
“Yes! And we can have dino pancakes in the morning and get donuts after our scavenger hunt at the zoo- all of daddy’s favorite things!”
Dino pancakes were a Sunday morning staple in your home- you would use a cookie cutter to cut out a dinosaur shaped pancake, and the kids would eat those while you and Spencer would eat the ones with the dinosaur outline in them (and a few regular ones for good measure).  But donuts instead of ice cream?  That was new.
“That’s a great idea, I’m so proud of you guys for working together to plan this,” you praised, “but why donuts?”
Your daughter peered up from the index card she was drawing flowers on to answer your question, “because they’re daddy’s favorite and it’s daddy’s day!”
“And for our scavenger hunt we want all the animals to spell out ‘best dad ever’,” your son tacked on at the end, already beginning the task of writing numbers and circling them on the front of the card.
That was another newfound tradition for your family.  Now that the kids were learning to read, the two of you would try to have the first letter of each answer spell out a certain word or phrase.  Sometimes, it would be something like ‘I love you’ or ‘hello’, other times it would be the name of a special someone that would be joining you for ice cream afterwards (so far ‘Aunt Penny’ and ‘Uncle D’ were their favorite ones to come across).
You grinned once more, moving to grab your laptop and pulling the Smithsonian’s National Zoo site up to look at their list of animals.
“Alright, my loves- let’s do this”.
***
Three hours, eleven index cards, one snack break, and two very patient children later, your scavenger hunt was finished, index cards clipped and ready to go for the following morning.
Each index card had blank slots, the number of which corresponded to the name of the animal, on the front of the card with three fun facts written on the back.  In retrospect, Spencer wouldn’t even need the slots (or more than one fun fact, to be fair), but you knew he’d make a show of trying to think of each and every animal tomorrow afternoon.
Yet another reason you loved him.
The rest of the day passed by in a blur, all of your energy going into spending time with your kids. But once they went to bed, that energy was refocused into prepping for tomorrow to take your mind off the fact that it was nearing 10 PM and your husband wasn’t there.
You couldn’t bear to think of your kids disappointment if he didn’t make it home that night.
Outfits out and pancakes ready to be made, you made your way to the couch when the clock struck 11:30 PM, ready to settle in for a movie while you awaited his return but there was no need- as you walked into the room your husband made his way through the front door.  He looked as exhausted as ever, but the glimmer in his eyes proclaimed what you knew to be true.
He was happy to be home.
***
7 AM the next morning found you face to face with two wide eyed children gently shaking you awake, joy radiating from them as they saw that their father was fast asleep next to you.
With much persuasion in the form of puppy dog eyes, you made your way out of bed and into the kitchen to start the first task of the day: dino pancakes.
Your little helpers set the table and brought Spencer’s gifts from the coat closet and into the dining room in the meantime, and as you placed the last pancake on a plate two arms wrapped around you and pulled you back tightly.
“Good morning, darling,” his raspy morning voice brought a soft smile to your face, and you leaned your head back to kiss his lips in greeting.
“Happy Father’s Day, Spence,” you laid another kiss against his lips, pulling back as the patter of little feet made their way into the kitchen.
“Daddy!  Happy Father’s Day!”
“Daddy!  Come see your gifts and eat pancakes!”
Two little voices fought for the spotlight, and Spencer kneeled to the ground to wrap the both of them in a hug.  You laughed at the scene, watching as they squeezed him just as hard before grabbing onto his arm and leading him to the dining room table.
“C’mon, Dad,” your son pulled his chair out and pushed his gifts closer to his seat, “let’s eat and open gifts!”
“Gifts?  You guys know I don’t want anything,” his brows furrowed as he looked at you, but you shrugged your eyes and took a bite of your pancakes in response.
“You always say that,” you rightly claimed, “and we always buy you gifts anyway- it’s practically tradition”.
You had a point, there.
Breakfast passed by in a blur of conversation, dad jokes, and present unwrapping.  And just like that, Spencer was the owner of new books to pass his time on the jet, a 5k puzzle you were sure he’d solve in an hour flat, and a homemade Father’s Day shirt with your children’s handprints decorating a globe, the words ’Best Dad in the WORLD!!!’ gracing the blank space.
His eyes sparkled when he saw the shirt, and you swore you’ve never been happier to call that man your husband and the father of your children.
Granted, that thought passed your mind no less than fifteen times a day, but still.
Within the hour, the four of you were out the door and on the way to the zoo, Spencer’s Father’s Day shirt proudly on display.
You drove with a grin, the radio turned off in favor of listening to your children explain today’s scavenger hunt to Spencer.  They were practically giving a word for word verbatim of what the two of you usually told them pre-scavenger hunt, all the more proof that your kids were sponges.
An equally exciting yet terrifying thought.
You were at the zoo within half an hour, your hand intertwined with your son’s while your daughter latched onto her father, everyone eager to start the scavenger hunt.
“Alright, guys,” Spencer began, “what’s our first clue?”
“Mommy can read it!” your daughter piped up and you nodded, grabbing the small pile from her hands before reading the first card of the day.
“Okay, so!  This animal has six letters in its name, and your three fun facts are: whiskers help this animal detect objects around them which helps them navigate the dark, they’re the largest rodents in North America, and when they’re in danger they slap their tail on the surface of the water” you finished your explanation and watched as Spencer’s eyes lit up in recognition, but just as you predicted he dragged the process out instead of guessing right away.
“Hm, it sounds like we should go to the rodent exhibit first!” He proclaimed, and your kids nodded, walking in a row like little ducklings to the exhibit.
The four of you took your time looking at each of the animals, until you came face to face with the animal in question.  “Aha! I think the animal we’re looking for is a beaver,” his answer was met with cheers from both of your children, and you wrote the answer in the blank slots before continuing with the hunt.
At the end of the hour you added an electric eel, sloth bear, tiger, dama gazelle, alpaca, and degu to the list.  Eight animals down, four to go.
Which was fantastic, considering that your kids were starting to get antsy for donuts.
“Okay, guys!  Are we ready for our next animal?” You were walking hand in hand with Spencer, your kids skipping directly in front of you and eagerly shouting in affirmation at your question.
The four of you stepped to the side, and you grabbed hold of the fourth to last index card before reciting the hints.
“Alright so!  This animal is two words, seven letters in the first word and seven in the second.  They have whiskers that look like mustaches, they’re native to the southwest Amazon Basin, and they have claws on each of their toes but the big one”.
“Hmm.. I don’t know guys, what do you think?” Spencer turned to your children, smiling wide when your son giggled in response.
“We can’t tell you, Dad! It’s a secret”.
Spencer laughed, sighing in defeat as your daughter gestured for him to come closer.  He did as asked, leaning down until she able to reach his ear, “I think we should go to the monkey exhibit!”
Her not so quiet whisper brought a smile to both yours and Spencer’s faces, and a grimace to your son’s but to the monkeys you went, where you came face to face with an Emperor Tamarin.
From there you crossed a Von der Decken’s Hornbill and an Eld’s Deer off your list until you had one animal left.
“Alright, my love- last one! This animal is two words, three letters in the first one and five in the second.  They mainly eat bamboo, their fur acts like a camouflage when they climb in trees, and they live in temperate forests in the Himalayas,” you finished your spiel with a quick eyebrow raise towards your children, both of which were not so discreetly pointing at the red panda exhibit just a few feet away.
“Is it a red panda?” Spencer asked, giving both your kids high fives when they jumped up and down in excitement.
“Yay Daddy, you got it! And guess what all of the first letters spell? Best dad ever!” your daughter jumped into his arms and Spencer chuckled, spinning her around and laying a gentle kiss on her head.
“Is that so?” he asked, “you three are too nice to me”.
Truthfully, you didn’t think it was possible to be too nice to Spencer.
“How about our last surprise for Daddy now, my loves?” your question was met with enthusiasm from your little family, and you were back in your car and on your way to Spencer’s favorite bakery in ten minutes flat.
As you pulled up to the bakery, two eager children and one extremely happy father made plans as to what donuts they were going to eat.
It was decided that Spencer would get a chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles, your son would get a glazed donut, and your daughter would get jelly.
And you? You had every intention to get your favorite too, but above all you were just happy that another amazing Father’s Day was in the books for Spencer.
The seventh of many.

When you were younger, you loved it. You loved looking down at your ankle and seeing the small butterfly just beside your ankle. You’d had it your whole life, though you still weren’t entirely sure how a tattoo grew up with you, but you accepted it. After all, it’s all that you knew.
Everybody’s born with a tattoo on their ankle, a small tattoo that has theirselves embedded into it. However, the older you get the more you realize that it’s not the tattoo you’re born with that makes the biggest impact on you, it’s others’. Every time you fall in love with somebody, your skin makes room for their tattoo on it. Your mom’s tattoo, a small star on her left ankle, shined bright from its place on your father’s wrist, somehow separate from the couple tattoos he collected over the years.
You remember the day you found out about the tattoos, perched in your mom’s lap and listening to her talk to your aunt about it. You remember tracing their tattoos with your small fingers while they told you various stories about their loves and how they grew up collecting tattoos on their skin. You were scared, asked your mom what happened if you never got any more than your single tattoo on your ankle. She told you that you would, that anybody would be lucky to collect your small butterfly somewhere on their body.
You remember the day you got your second tattoo, the paper plane that sat on the back of your left shoulder that now held the role as a painful reminder of your first love. You loved Cory, but the time for the two of you had come and gone. The paper airplane, though never in your line of sight, was still a painful reminder of the times you shared with the boy and how he broke your heart at the end of it all just before moving to college.
You had to go through senior year alone, newly broken up with and with your best friend hours away from home. You couldn’t blame Nolan, not when he was out doing the thing he loved so much. Being in Brandon was good for him, it was all that he wanted, and it wasn’t all that far away from Winnipeg anyways. You still drove out to see Nolan’s games, even if it ran up the miles on your car and had you spending late nights driving back home by yourself. You would’ve done anything for Nolan, and it truly showed during your senior year.
Nolan’s draft day was a rude awakening for you. You jumped up when his name was called, hugging him as tight as you possibly could before hiding your giddy expression behind your hands. You were excited for him, even if he was going all the way out to Philadelphia. You wanted him to be happy, and you could tell within seconds of his name being called that he was going to do just fine in Philly.
You didn’t notice until you got home and your heart sank into your stomach. Your adrenaline high had worn off, and the reality of everything around you began to sink in. You knew what it was the second you laid your eyes on it, black lines etched into the skin of your sternum. You thought it was an odd placement, though it was hard to miss it when you stepped out of the shower and it stood tall and proud and ready to be found.
You knew what it was, you’d seen the shape etched into Nolan’s ankle far more times than you could count. It mocked you, the snake coiled up the same way your memory sketched it out in your brain, and now it was imprinted perfectly into your skin. You touched it, rubbed it, tried to wash it off. You had just taken a shower, just washed the day off of you and down the drain and now you were standing in the middle of a hotel bathroom, rubbing at the spot between your breasts mercilessly. This couldn’t be happening, not to you, not when Nolan was about to move thousands of miles away from you.
But it was happening, because the black line that followed no real pattern never faded, despite the skin around it turning raw from your insistent attempts at washing it off. It was here to stay, no matter what happened in your life down the road. It didn’t matter that you had no heads up, no warning that you were falling head over heels in love with your best friend.
You knew it wouldn’t wash off, but that didn’t stop you from trying. These tattoos were forever, you knew that. You learned from a ripe, young age about obtaining your love’s tattoo. You learned about it growing up, you talked about it with friends and family, hell this wasn’t even your first tattoo that wasn’t your own. You knew the drill, you knew the routine, but that didn’t make it any easier to deal with.
You were 18, watching him sign contracts and make agreements of his big move in a few short weeks. You couldn’t believe it, that you were losing him in a time like this. It made dropping him off at the airport all that much harder, cheeks wet and eyes bloodshot as you clung to him for dear life. You knew his parents wanted to say bye, that his sisters were waiting patiently while you cried into his shoulder, but you couldn’t let go.
He didn’t know about the snake on your sternum, nor did you plan on telling him. You couldn’t drop a bomb like that on him just before he moved to a different country, finally living out the dream he’d had ever since you could remember. Nolan wasn’t Nolan without hockey, and you were aware of that. You were painfully aware of that.
So you didn’t tell him.
You spent too many nights curled up in your bed, clinging to your pillow to muffle the whimpers and whines that pushed through your lips and out into the air. You tried to ignore the sinking feeling in your chest at any given moment, and you did everything in your power to keep everything under wraps. You couldn’t tell anyone, no matter how bad it hurt to be in love with your best friend that now lived so far away from you.
It was hard, hiding it. You had to hide it from your family and friends, and sometimes that was easy. During the cold months you were seemingly off the hook, but when summer rolled around and your friends dragged you out to the lake every chance they got, you were in a bit of trouble. You had to carefully choose what bathing suits you wore and had to make sure nothing slipped or faltered throughout the day.
You’d made it three years without a slip up. Even on nights when Nolan came home and you were mere inches away from him, you couldn’t find it in you to tell him. Even when he was curled up into your side and holding you against his chest in the most comfortable way, you couldn’t say anything. You couldn’t make a move on him.
And now you were in Philly, standing in an arena that had you shivering but smiling brightly from the opposite side of the glass. You smiled every time Nolan skated by, even more when he assisted Travis in the first goal of the game and scored one of his own late in the second period. You were buzzing, adrenaline pumping and excitement shining deep in your chest. Watching Nolan do what he loved would never get old, not when the smile he wore was enough to wash away any fear or worry you’ve ever had.
You remember nights when you couldn’t sleep and Nolan would hold you. You remembered nights when you were crying over the phone to him and he snuck out of his room and into your own. You remembered fights you had and the way he made you walk home one night after one of your bigger ones.
You were walking out of TIm Horton’s, mere feet away from Nolan’s car before you tumbled into an argument you’d been trying to avoid for a few days now. You were dating Cory at the time, and Nolan couldn’t believe you were telling him that you couldn’t go to his game on Friday night, regardless of the fact that you’d promised him for weeks now that you’d be there. It was hard for you to catch games during the week, but this one was on a Friday night with plenty of time for you to finish the school day and drive over to Brandon.
But now you were telling him that you couldn’t go, and no matter how sorry you were, Nolan couldn’t forgive you. He said you’d blown him off for Cory more times than he could accept anymore. You had to call your sister, figuring she was the only one that would pick you up and give you a ride home without threatening to leave you in the parking lot in favor of beating Nolan to a pulp.
None of that mattered though. None of it mattered when you were faced with the boy you’d fallen in love with doing the thing he cherished most. When he left the locker room with a smile brighter than any of his teammates had seen in a long time that was directed straight at you, you knew none of it mattered.
Your feet left the ground, hanging in the air while your best friend clung to your frame tightly. He thanked you for coming, told you that he scored the goal just for you, that he scored every goal for you. You figured it was the adrenaline talking, that he was just basking in the big win against their biggest rivals. That plus the fact that Nolan could barely come to terms with the fact that you were here all for him.
You’d been in Philly before, had visited Nolan a few times over his years with the Flyers. You’d met practically everyone there was to meet and had gotten fairly close with his closest friends by default, seeing as they were always around when you were. Everything was going well this time around, everyone was having fun and getting along and it almost seemed like nothing could fall out of place.
You were standing in the kitchen with Nolan and Travis when Nolan’s name was called, beckoning him out into the rest of the house while you and Travis rallied drinks for the group. He tried to ignore them, tried to help you pile up on wine and beers for the rest of the group but Travis practically kicked him out of the kitchen. Travis said he could help you, that the two of you didn’t need Nolan’s help and that someone else clearly did.
It took all of five minutes for Travis to spill red wine all over your shirt. Thankfully for him, the few glasses you’d thrown back throughout the night washed over any sense of anger or annoyance you’d usually pick up and you simply laughed it off. He felt so bad, begged you to forgive him and let you buy him a new shirt, but all you did was insist that he find you a new one for now and that you could figure out the rest of it when the two of you weren’t tipsy and surrounded by your friends.
Travis ducked out of the kitchen for a second before turning back up and leading you into a hallway on the other end of the house. He told you that Claude never really let them wander his house without a little supervision, claiming that they break everything that they touch, but this was a special case. Claude loved you, and he wasn’t going to let you walk around with a wine stained shirt for the rest of the night, especially when it’s Travis’s fault in the first place.
You laid back on the bed in the room you were unfamiliar with, smiling up at the ceiling and humming to yourself while Travis dug through Claude’s closet.
“I know Ryanne has a stack of those shirts somewhere.” he spoke gently to himself, refraining from throwing clothes all over the room and instead digging for one through multiple piles. You laughed to yourself, not even sure if he knew that you could hear him.
“Just pick one, Teeks!” he huffed and chucked one at you, laughing loudly when it landed directly on your face.
You whined and sat up, reaching for the hem of your shirt without much thought surrounding the subject before peeling it off. All you could think about was how sticky your stomach had gotten from the red spot.
It was the small gasp that got you, the one that brought you back down to Earth and tore you out of your wine-induced haze. It was Travis’s eyes locked in on the spot in the middle of your chest that triggered every panic siren in between your ears.
“Is that-”
“TK you can’t tell him.” you rushed out, pushing yourself to stand up as you pressed a bright orange Flyers shirt against your chest. Your hands were shaking, and Travis’s eyes were glued to the spot of the tattoo even without being able to see it anymore. He knew what that snake was, he knew it all too well. He’d known Nolan for a long time now, and he’d seen the snake enough times to commit it to memory.
He was sure you had Nolan’s snake in the middle of your chest, and now Travis knew you were in love with Nolan.
“Trav, I’m serious.” he shook his head, trying to clear himself of the intrusive thoughts and nodded gently. He couldn’t tell Nolan. He wasn’t entirely sure how he was going to keep that from him, especially when he had been looking for your tattoo on Nolan’s skin for years now.
Travis wasn’t dense. He saw the way that Nolan looked at you, heard the tone he used when he talked about you. He saw how excited Nolan got when he knew you were about to fly into Philly, and he saw how upset Nolan got when you left. He might not have been the brightest bulb in the box, but he knew that there was something lying under the surface of you and Nolan’s friendship.
He tried to have this conversation before, had tried more times than he could count at this point. The only difference now was that there was hard proof, there was evidence that he was right all along. But now he couldn’t use that evidence, not when you were looking at him with wide eyes and begging him to keep it between the two of you.
“Fine, but we’re talking about this before you go back home.” you nodded, figuring that it was good enough for you if it meant he never told Nolan about it.
Except, there was one small problem.
The door swung open, dark and narrowed eyes landing on you and Travis, less than a foot between the two of you with you topless, a single shirt held between your hands and in front of your chest.
“My best friend?” the disappointment in his voice tugged at your heart and punched you in the gut simultaneously. The guilt hanging in your chest was barely justified, given this was one large misunderstanding, but the look on Nolan’s face was enough to have your shoulders falling.
“Nolan, it’s not-”
“My best fucking friend? Of all people you had to choose him?” his eyes were wide and glued to yours, anger mixing with disgust in the back of his mind. He couldn’t believe you’d do this to him.
“Pat, you don’t understand-”
“Fuck you.” Nolan spoke slowly and clearly, shooting Travis the sharpest glare he could produce. His voice sent a chill down your spine, unsure if you had ever heard him speak with such malice. “Both of you.”
Nolan spun on the balls of his feet and left the room, but you didn’t let him get far before you were following him. You tugged the shirt over your head, not even bothering to turn back to Travis to apologize before you were running after Nolan, calling his name down the hallway.
“Nolan, please-”
“I don’t want to hear it, honestly.” he threw over his shoulder, but you weren’t accepting that. You weren’t going to let him walk away right now, not when you didn’t do anything wrong.
“Just listen to me!” you stopped walking, stopped running. You stood in the middle of a hallway that had pictures lining the walls around you. Smiling faces and cheery laughs suffocated you in a time where you stood toe to toe with your best friend, the same one who was looking down at you like he’d never known you. “You don’t get to assume things and just walk away!”
“Yeah, well you don’t get to come out here after not seeing me for six months and sleep with my best friend! You don’t get to do that to me! You don’t get to use me to sleep with professional athletes.” any words you had swimming through your mind halted at his accusation. They fizzled out, unable to produce a coherent thought after you heard your best friend accuse you of using him.
“After all this time, you think i’m using you? You think that I came here to sleep with Travis?”
“You want to know what I think? I think you’ve always used me. You used me to escape your awful boyfriend in high school and you used me to leave home when things got bad. You used me to get over your shitty boyfriend when he left you in the fucking dust and here you are now, using me to sleep with my best fucking friend.” you were in shock, lips parted and throat constricting as you tried to let his words sit.
“If you wanted to whore yourself out to NHL players, you should’ve just said so, puck bunny.” The nickname weighed heavily in your chest, bringing you back to a time where Nolan went on and on about how much puck bunnies got under his skin. It brought you back to a time when Nolan would never call you that, would never even put you and the name in the same conversation.
“Patty!” Nolan’s eyes left yours, casting over your shoulder and locking with another pair that he might have been more furious at. Sure, he was angry at you. He couldn’t believe you’d do something like this, not after growing up with him just a few houses down. He couldn’t believe you’d stoop this low, but Travis? Travis knew how Nolan felt about you. Even if he didn’t admit it, even if he’d never say that was all true, Travis knew. He knew better than anyone how Nolan felt, and that made it all the more worse.
“Don’t talk to her like that.” you bit down on your bottom lip, hard enough to sting slightly but you couldn’t look away from where your eye level left you. You couldn’t look up at Nolan, not when he was this angry at you, and you surely couldn’t look at Travis. You knew that’d only make things worse.
“Now you get to tell me how to talk to her? Does that mean the two of you are a thing now? That’s funny, seeing as you have a girlfriend, Teeks. Didn’t know you were into home wrecking, y/n.”
“Fuck you.” you spoke softly, not even sure if he had heard you before he looked down at you with a puzzled look stretched across his face.
“So I can pick up TK’s sloppy seconds? No thanks, angel.” you shoved him then, shoved him hard. He didn’t move much due to the way his feet dug into the ground and he had muscle on you, but you got your point across by the force delivered to his chest.
“You’re a dick, you know that? You walk into a room and think you know everything that’s going on, but you don’t, okay? You don’t know what happens when you’re gone. You don’t know what happened in there or what happens at home when you’re here. You don’t know anything, okay?”
“That’s bold, given that I just walked in on you topless, seconds away from kissing my best friend, y/n-”
“Is there a reason you feel the need to keep reminding me that Travis is your best friend?”
“Because I need you to know that you’re not.”
The world titled on its axis then, the rude awakening you’d walked into becoming all too much for you to handle. With the realization that Nolan wanted nothing to do with you, you nodded once and walked around him so you could leave. It was only then that you noticed the audience you’d gathered, the better half of the Flyers roster circled around the room with a few of their significant others. You flashed everyone a pained smile and thanked Claude and Ryanne for inviting you before leaving the house.
You weren’t even down the driveway when your lungs gave way, gasping for air while tears streamed down your cheeks. Your heart hurt and your stomach turned, and you knew it was going to be a long night.
“You really are a dick.” Travis was going to walk past him, was going to avoid the lot of people and follow you outside. He knew you didn’t know where you were, nor did you have a way to get to or from anywhere else. You could order an uber to Nolan’s, but then what? Kevin might let you into the apartment but where would you stay? On the couch in a living room you weren’t welcome in? Not likely.
“I’m the dick? You know how I feel about her!”
“Nothing happened!”
“Bullshit, TK! I know that look on your face and I know that she sure as hell looked embarrassed-”
“I spilt wine on her shirt, you fucking idiot! I knocked into her when we were in the kitchen and I made her entire glass of wine spill down the front of her shirt, so I went to get her another one. I didn’t want her to sit in a soaking wet, stained shirt for the rest of the night so I went to get her another.”
“And she changed in front of you because-?”
“Because she was drunk and knew I wouldn’t make a move on her. Because she knows that I respect you and care about you far more than I care about making a move on her. I don’t look at her that way, Pat. You know I would never do that to you.” Nolan sucked on his teeth then, casting his eyes away from Travis’s and looking down at his feet.
“Do I?” Travis scoffed then, not bothering to give Nolan a response before walking past everybody else and out to his car.
After a few minutes of driving around, he found you at the park just down the street, leaning against the chain that supported the swing you sat on. He couldn’t see your tears from his car, but he could see the way you flinched when he shut the car door behind him.
“You okay?” you shook your head, eyes filled to the brim with tears that blurred your vision and broke Travis’s heart.
“I’m in love with him, Teeks. I love him more than anything in this entire world and he thinks I’m using him. He t-thinks- he thinks I-”
“Hey, it’s okay.” Travis pulled you onto your feet and into his chest, wrapping his arms tightly around you in order to attempt to calm you down.
“He thinks-” your sobs rang through the air, piercing through Travis’s heart and resulting in him squeezing you tighter, letting you get all of it out while no one else was around.
“He doesn’t think that. He knows you’re not using him, he just can’t bear to think about you with anybody other than him.” you shook your head, not allowing yourself to believe Travis, even though he knew Nolan pretty well. If there was anything to know about Nolan, you or Travis would know about it.
“He loves you, okay? He loves you more than he knows how to handle and he can’t handle losing you before he’s even had you.” you flinched when a car backfired, jumping inches off of the ground and making Travis laugh gently from beside you when you let out a shaky breath of relief.
Your eyes found the familiar car drive by, slowing down the slightest bit by the park only to take off towards the entrance of the neighborhood quite quickly. You knew it was Nolan, you knew that car by heart.
You ended up on Travis’s couch the night, wrapped in a warm pair of sweatpants that Travis threw in the dryer for you before giving them to you. You tied the drawstring in a tight knot so they’d stay up and pulled on a hoodie that he offered to you shortly after. He listened to you reminisce on all of the memories you had with Nolan. He learned more about his best friend and who he was growing up, but also learned a fair amount about you as well.
He felt for you. He couldn’t believe Nolan said all of those things to you, but he also knew that Nolan must not be doing well right now. He texted Kevin when he got back to his apartment, saying that you were safe with him, and that he’d text Nolan but didn’t for obvious reasons. Kevin assured Travis he’d let Nolan know you were safe, despite Nolan not asking about your well being. Not that he hadn’t thought about it, but he figured if he asked he’d be left with a less than likable answer.
Nolan didn’t sleep well that night, replaying how bad he fucked up over and over again in his mind. He didn’t believe you at first, didn’t even believe Travis when he told him what truly happened. He did, however, believe his captain when he said that Travis asked him for a shirt for you just a few minutes before it all happened. Ryanne brought out your wine soaked shirt after the two of you had left, and despite Nolan coming to terms with the fact that he was wrong, he couldn’t forgive himself for the things he said to you.
He couldn’t believe he accused you of it all before going on to accuse you of using him for your benefit. He knew it was stupid, since you’d been around far before the NHL. you were there when he got drafted, you were there when he was named captain of the Wheat Kings, and you were there when he almost quit hockey when he was younger. He remembered having you by his side through everything growing up and even now, even while living so far away from each other. If he called, you answered. If he needed help, you helped him. Hockey had nothing to do with that.
He looked down at the butterfly on his thigh, the one that took residence right beside another one of his tattoos, one that he had to keep hidden from you for well over two years now. He traced his finger over the small image, let his mind wander over all the possibilities of where yours could be if you had a snake somewhere inked into your skin. It’s a thought he often had, wondering where you’d want it, if you’d want it.
By the time Nolan came to his senses, it was too late. He’d already gotten through an entire practice and by the time he got back, by the time he got home, he realized you were gone. Your things that were piled into a corner of his room were gone. The jersey he’d given you for the game against the pens was folded up nicely on the pillow of his bed and a sticky note with your unmistakeable handwriting on it left a hole in his chest.
I’m sorry I ever made you doubt me.
He couldn’t reach for his phone fast enough, couldn’t call you enough times to break your voicemail box. He called Travis, pained to hear that you were already on a flight back to Winnipeg. He wanted to leave, wanted to drive to the airport right this second and catch a flight back home to tell you he’s incredibly sorry, but he couldn’t. He had a roadie in a few days and a game tomorrow night and he couldn’t just leave.
He did his best to contact you, tried to call every person in your family and was disappointed every time. Even when both of his sisters sat down and called him to collectively tell him that he was the biggest idiot either of them had ever met. Nobody could believe Nolan blew you off like that, not even Nolan himself.
He knew he fucked up, but he hadn’t realized how bad he fucked things up until one of your friends from back home posted a picture of you on social media a few months later. It had been at least four months since he’d spoken to you, since he saw you. It had been too long of him having nothing but the sliver of content he got from social media. He hated that his friends had chosen your side in the thick of it all, though he guessed it was easier to do that with him in Philadelphia and the rest of you in the same place.
But it wasn’t until a picture of you with a wide smile and a new bathing suit popped up on his phone that he knew the true weight of the situation in front of him. There you were, in a baby blue bathing suit that showed the same shape between your breasts that he’d grown up with beside his ankle. His tattoo was committed to memory, ingrained into his brain with no room to forget about it, especially when he saw it on you, etched into your skin the same way it had been etched into his.
He thought back to the paper airplane on your shoulder, the mark that had haunted him for years. He hated your boyfriend, hated the sight of his tattoo on your skin. He hated everything that had to do with the sheer thought of you with somebody else, even if he didn’t know how to deal with that. And now, with his thumb sitting on the butterfly on his thigh and his eyes on the snake on your sternum, he knew he had to fix this. He knew he had to fix things because these tattoos, though permanent themselves, didn’t guarantee him a life as your boyfriend, nor your husband.
Nolan remembered a time when he thought these tattoos were stupid. He remembered when he thought it was a thing for soulmates and you told him that thought was wrong, that it just reminded you of a love you felt, even if it was eventually lost. He remembers you telling him that you were scared you’d never be loved forever, that you were scared to only be loved momentarily.
But that wasn’t the case. Nolan would never stop loving you. He couldn’t forget about the way your laugh brightened his day without question, or the way your nose scrunched when you laughed. He couldn’t forget about the way you bugged him for ice cream on a bad day, or how good you looked with his name and number stretched across your back.
He couldn’t remember a day he wasn’t in love with you.
So Nolan flew to Winnipeg the second the Flyers’ season was over. He didn’t bask in getting knocked out of the playoffs like some of the other guys, didn’t dwell on the loss in the sixth game of the series because he couldn’t. He couldn’t dwell on a loss when he was so focused on trying to prevent a second one.
He had called everybody he could think of once he got off the plane. Some didn’t answer, some didn’t know the answer to his question, and some just flat out refused to humor him. You weren’t home, he knew that much by the absence of your car in the driveway and your sister telling him that you weren’t there, and that she wouldn’t let him inside even if you were. It wasn’t until he rounded a familiar corner after a phone call he’d been thankful for.
Jordan told him where you were, unable to lie to his childhood friend when you were hanging out with everyone. You were wearing a bathing suit again, though it didn’t matter for a while. The sun was high in the air and you weren’t the only that had shed yourself of your coverup earlier in the afternoon. You were playing basketball with Jordan, oblivious to the fact that he’d given you up just ten minutes prior to the gate door swinging open and Nolan letting himself into the backyard.
Your eyes found him easily, as if he was a magnet you could never repel. Your shoulders fell for a moment, your instinct of wanting to comfort him seeping in before you could tell it not to. Of course you kept up with his team, watching every game you possibly could until the very last one. You knew he’d been knocked out of the playoff less than 48 hours ago, and you had no idea he was coming home.
You hadn’t realized the weight of the situation until you noticed his eyes locked in on your chest. You folded your arms over your chest in an attempt to cover the snake, but it didn’t make Nolan look anywhere else.
“Who told you I was here?” your voice was soft. You knew he didn’t drive around the entire town looking for your car, though you weren’t sure it was something too far out of his reach. Nolan would do just about anything to get something if he wanted it bad enough.
“Bo did.” you glared at the boy not far from you, the one that you shouldn’t have trusted with something like this in the first place. You should’ve known Jordan would do something like this.
“Patty, what the fuck?”
“Just shut up, Bo.” Jordan rolled his eyes and tossed the basketball to Nolan who smacked it away and into the grass.
“Well, I don’t want to talk to you.” you tried to stand your ground, even with Jordan giggling to himself before walking over to your friends not too far from where you currently stood.
“Just give me five minutes.”
Nolan’s eyes bore into yours, the same pair of bright blue eyes that you had been avoiding for months. You wanted to answer every call and every text, but how could you? How could you pick up the phone and listen to his voice through the speaker after all he’d said to you in front of his entire team. And then on top of it all, he left you stranded in Philly, in the middle of a city, country even, where you had nobody to turn to and nowhere to go.
“I know you don’t want to talk to me-”
“Then leave, Nols.” he shook his head, taking a step towards you. “I don’t want to talk to you.”
“I know I hurt you-”
“You’re right! You hurt me! You hurt me so bad Nolan and I can’t go through that again so if you’re here to let history repeat itself, then can you just go?” he shook his head, firmly planting his feet into the ground and refusing to move.
“I know you don’t want to see me or listen to me or give me the benefit of the doubt but I need you to hear me out.” you sighed, letting your arms fall to your side. You weren’t sure how he seemingly broke down all of your walls without even lifting a finger. You watched his eyes flick down to the image on your chest, you even let him raise a finger once he stood in front of you and trace the shape of the snake. “It suits you, y’know?”
“Did you really come all this way to tell me that this suits me?” there was a hint of amusement in your voice, enough of it to bring a smile to Nolan’s lips.
“I know I fucked up-”
“Big time.” you cut him off, shooting him a gentle smile and nod that told you you’d stop interrupting him. “Sorry, continue.”
“I know I fucked up and I said a lot of shit I didn’t mean and that’s not an excuse but- look, I know i shouldn’t have said all of that shit. I should’ve believed the two of you. I should’ve believed you when you told me nothing happened and I shouldn’t have said you were using me. I know you’re not using me. There was no way you could’ve known that I was going to be in the NHL, and you wouldn’t have stuck around all this time just to be a puck bunny.”
It wasn’t like you to forgive all that easily. You drew lines in the sand and refused to let someone fuck you over twice. You weren’t big on second chances, especially when you thought people didn’t deserve them. You were a straight shooter, no bullshit. But those walls cracked for Nolan, they fell for Nolan. None of your boundaries were drawn in place with Nolan in mind. He had broken down every wall, overstepped every boundary since the day he met you. You couldn’t block him out, couldn’t lead him out of your life.
As much as you hated to admit it, you needed Nolan Patrick. You were in love with Nolan Patrick.
And the little butterfly on his thigh told you that he loved you all the same.
Your lips turned up at the sight, your eyes locked in on the place where his shorts had ridden up and the small image danced happily on his skin.
“How long have you had that?” you pointed down at it, barely noticing the way his eyes stayed trained on you through the entirety of the situation. You were looking at his tattoo, but he was looking at you. He was always looking at you, which only made it that much more surprising that he hadn’t picked up on the snake on your chest.
“Since before I got drafted.” he spoke softly, hitting you with a force you didn’t know existed. You were floored by the realization, somewhat thinking that he’d only had it for a small bit of time. You’d seen his thighs, seen his tattoos and you’d never seen the small butterfly etched into his skin.
“How long have you had that?” his finger traced over the snake one more time, sending a chill down your spine that you had felt more times than you could count when you were around Nolan. It was a feeling that was never expected but always welcome.
“Draft day.” you breathed out, feeling the weight of the world lift off of your shoulders. You were finally admitting it, finally letting the love of your life know just how long you’ve been a mess for him. Little did you know how much of a mess he was for you.
“I’m so sorry, y/n.”
“It’s okay.” you spoke softly, a smile gracing your lips at the realization that things were falling back into place, even after all this time of not talking to him.
“It’s okay?” you nodded, taking another step toward him so you were chest to chest.
“As long as you don’t fuck it up again.” he let out a small laugh, his hands finding the sides of your face just before pressing his lips to yours.
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”

When my daughters were children and first went to sleepaway camp, my wife would send them a card every day. She suggested that I do the same, but I had no idea what to write until I came up with the idea of writing about “when I was a little boy”. I’m pretty sure I produced the letters using a computer and a dot-matrix printer
#2 in the series of “When I was a little boy” letters. I have edited them to remove some personal information.
I remember being called in from playing outside to watch  a rocket being launched. I'm not sure who was inside, possibly John Glenn. He was the first American to go into space in a rocket ship and orbit the earth. Now the space shuttle goes up all the time, but back then, early 1960s, it was something new and exciting.
My sister and I were in different Kindergartens, but we were in the same first grade classroom. The only thing I remember was wanting to have our desks next to each other. I don't think that the teacher allowed it. In second grade I got my glasses. I was blinking a lot, but I don't remember if I had any trouble seeing the blackboard or not. Anyway, my mom took me to get my eyes checked, and I ended up with glasses. From what we now know, the doctor was not very competent, so it is possible that I didn't really need them, and wearing them made my eyes worse, but who knows. I have worn them ever since.
At some time in Center school, we saw a student production of a Gilbert & Sullivan play. Pirates or Pinafore, I don't remember which.
One day, while playing on the jungle gym or the monkey bars, I decided to try to swing and jump off. I figured that I would swing out and land on my feet. (Something like my idea about the sled.) Well, I was wrong. I swung out all right, but landed flat on my back, knocking the wind out of me. I was quite embarrassed as I picked myself up and walked back in to class.
Connecticut had hurricanes once in a while. One came through and when it was over, a huge old tree on the woods on the side of the house had fallen over, pulling the roots right out of the ground. We spent many hours climbing all over that downed tree.
Christmas at the house on Sugar Loaf Drive were magical. The living room had doors that could be closed, so you couldn't see into the room. We would have gone out in the weeks before Christmas to choose our tree. We didn't cut it down ourselves, but went to a pre-cut lot that was owned by friends of my father's. On Christmas Eve we would go to bed early (?). My mom would be starting to prepare the turkey for Christmas dinner. I remember one year being sick on Christmas Eve, and not being able to go to church. I don't remember going to church on other Christmas Eves, but I do remember being sick. I don't remember being sick on Christmas Day though. Christmas morning we would wake up early and go in to the living room. We would open the door and there it would be, the tree. It was not even inside when we were put to bed, but now it was all decorated, with lights, ornaments and tinsel. It was magical. My parents, and Aunt Mary some years, would have stayed up almost all night wrapping presents and decorating the tree, with help from Santa of course. When we were older, they told us that they had barely been asleep more that a few hours, when we would wake them up yelling, "He's been, he's been". We would drag them out of bed so we could open our presents.
One summer day, I think school was over, but I'm not sure, Mom came out while I was riding my bike and asked  if I wanted to learn how to swim. I said sure. She signed me up for a "Y" day camp at Camp Brown. I don't remember if we took a bus, or if she drove. I remember making stuff out of popsicle sticks and learning to swim. The camp had a small lake with a raft anchored out in the deep part. I think we started the day with exercises like jumping jacks and the like. The last day of camp was an overnight camp out. I do remember setting up my sleeping bag on the ground, with no tent. I remember waking up in the morning, but that's about it. I think I went there more than one year, but I'm not sure. I do remember that when it rained, we were bussed to the "Y", where we swam in the indoor pool.
We were still in the house on Sugarloaf Drive when I had my tonsils out. I remember because I can picture myself on the couch in the living room, asking to eat chili. Big mistake.

a/n: 18+!!!! SMUT!!!! NO MINORS!!!! I wrote this in like two hours because I really wanted to add a new update for this fic. I couldn’t stop thinking about how this would play out. I had so many ideas but I finally narrowed it down to one. So I really hope you like this fic!!!
Tumblr media
You hoped that Bucky wouldn’t go through with it. You hoped after the shared nights you two spent was enough to have him call the whole thing off. Boy, were you wrong. He went through with it. The son of a bitch married your mother and you had to sit there with a fake smile on your face.
It was the day of Bucky and your mother’s wedding. Your mother woke you up at an absurd time and dragged you into the car. You were crammed into the backseat with your aunt, Jessica, and Bucky’s sister, Rebecca. Your mother drove you guys to the hotel the wedding was being held at.
It was a beachside resort, and they were having the ceremony on the beach. Yeah, your mother was using Bucky’s money to hold your dream wedding.
Your dream wedding was a beachside wedding, with a man exactly like Bucky. You dreamed about it since you were nine. You always dreamed of marrying a tall and handsome man and running into the sunset. Happily ever after. Well, life kinda fucked that up.
So there you sat at the front in a white wooden chair. You watched your mother walked down the aisle in a big white dress. It took everything in you to not let the tears fall as you locked eyes with Bucky. It was only for a second but it was enough to make you sad.
Your mother stood in front of Bucky as they said their vows. Then they kissed and god, your heart shattered. Everyone cheered and clapped, you gave a small sad smile to Bucky. He looked at you with guilt filling his face as he watched the one tear fall down your face. You quickly wiped it away and clapped.
During the reception, you downed flute after flute of champagne even took a few shots of tequila. Anything alcoholic went down your throat, but after five years of college, you could handle your liquor. You weren’t even buzzed. Damn, your mother for not having the strong stuff at her wedding.
You had a glass of merlot in your hand as your mother and her new husband came up to you. Your mother hugged you and kissed you on the cheek, and Bucky gave you a hug and you placed a fast kiss on his cheek.
“How are you enjoying the wedding?” Your mother asked, and you placed a fake smile on your face.
“It’s beautiful, mom. I loved the beachside ceremony.” You said and took a small sip of your wine.
“I’m glad.” She smiled, and Bucky nodded. Then their song came on. Your mother grabbed Bucky’s hand and pulled him towards the dance floor.
You gripped your wine glass tight as you watched them dance. You walked over to the small bar and grabbed the bottle of merlot and chugged it down. The people at the bar looked at me weird but I didn’t care. I finished off the bottle and set the empty glass bottle on the bar surface. Still, you weren’t fazed.
“Fuck.” You muttered and walked away from the bar. You were sitting at your table when Bucky approached you. He held his hand out to you.
“Do you wanna dance?” He asked, knowing that if your mother saw you dancing with him, she wouldn’t think anything about it.
“Sure.” You faked smiled, and he pulled you to your feet. You two walked out to the dance floor. You placed your hands on his shoulders and he placed his hands on your waist, as you two swayed to the music.
“I’m sorry.” He muttered, and you looked up into his blue eyes.
“Why’d you go through with it?” You asked, and his eyes darted away from yours and to the side.
“I don’t know.” He sighed, and you couldn’t help but dig your manicured nails into his shoulders. He stifled a groan and looked at you confused. “Why do you care so much. We were just a fling.” He stated, and you scoffed and pulled away from his arms.
You stormed off and found your mother. You told her that you were heading to your room because you were tired. She smiled and nodded and told you to get some sleep.
You took the lift up to your room and walked in. You slammed the door shut. You fell on the bed with a huff.
He had a good point. Why were you mad? It was a fling. Of course, you didn’t mean anything to him. It shouldn’t have meant anything to you. Why did it though? Then it hit you like a fucking freight train. You were in love with your mother’s new husband.
You sat up on the bed as a tear fell down your face. You quickly wiped it away and started pacing the length of the room. You were in love with Bucky. Are you fucking kidding? You took a large sigh and ran a hand through your hair.
You were knocked out of your thoughts when someone knocked on your door. You knew who it was so you ignored it. You sat on the edge of the bed waiting for him to leave.
“Y/n, I know you’re in there. Please let me in.” Bucky said through the door. You huffed and walked up to the door. You opened the door to reveal Bucky still in his tux and breathing heavily.
“Did you run up five flights of stairs?” You asked, and he had a crooked smile on his face.
“The elevator was taking too long.” He shrugged, and damn, he looked so cute. With that stupid smile and his hair never looked fluffier.
“Oh, fuck it.” You mumbled, and grabbed him by his tie and smashed his lips on yours. You pulled him into your room. You pulled back from the kiss to close and lock the door. You then pinned him to the door and jumped on him. You captured his lips in another kiss, he caught you by the backs of your thighs as you wrapped your legs around his waist.
“You that needy, sweets?” He asked mockingly, and you yanked his head back by his hair and nipped and sucked on his neck.
“Watch it, baby.” You growled against his skin, and he quietly moaned as you tightened your grip on his hair. “You think it’s easy watching you walk around in that damn suit. Playing house with my mother. You aren’t hers.” You sucked a hickey on his collarbone. “You’re mine.” You growled in his ear, and he moaned. “Bed. Now.”
He carried you to the plush bed in the middle of the room. He sat on the edge with you still in his lap. You ground your panty-covered pussy into the bulge growing in his slacks. You untied his tie and used it to tie it around his eyes to blindfold him. You pushed him back and his back hit the mattress. He laid in the middle of the bed and you hiked your dress up.
“What are you doing, sweets?” He asked as he felt you slide up his chest.
“You are going to eat me out, baby boy.” You purred as you pulled your panties off. You straddled his face backward and immediately he dived into your folds. He sucked your clit in his mouth and nipped on it. You moaned and ground your cunt on his tongue. He thrusted his tongue in your sopping hole, his tongue licking along your walls.
He moaned against your pussy as you rubbed his bulge. You unzipped his slacks and pulled his cock out. You stroked his shaft up and down swiping the pre-cum off the slit. He groaned in your folds as he continued his assault on your clit.
“Oh, god!” He moaned in your pussy, and you smirked then moaned, as he sucked your clit in his mouth. You licked the palm of your hand and stroked him up and down.
“God, you eat me out so good!” You moaned as he stroked the inside of your pussy with his tongue. You thumbed under the crown of his cock and he cried out in your folds, and that sent you over the edge. You writhed above him as your orgasm washed over you. He continued to eat you out to prolong your orgasm. Once you came down from your high you removed your pussy from his face and turned around to face him. You laid over him then removed the blindfold.
“That was new.” He said, with a smirk and you leaned down and kissed him. You reached back and lined his cock up to your entrance and sunk down. You two moaned in unison as your walls fluttered around his length.
“Fuck, baby. You stretch me so good.” You moaned, and he bucked his hips up. You started riding him hard and fast trying to reach your second climax. His hands gripped your ass as you rode him. He captured your lips in a searing kiss. He groaned in the kiss when you clenched around him. The head of his cock slammed into your g-spot every time his hips met yours.
“God, I forgot how tight you are.” He groaned, and he smacked one of your asscheeks. You squealed in delight loving the sting that came with the smack. He smacked your ass again as his cock hit your g-spot and you went hurtling over the edge. You cried out his name in his kiss.
He hit his high when he felt your walls flutter around his cock. He filled you up with his hot cum as he fucked up into your harder. He fucked you into another orgasm and you started squirting on his chest. Soaking his dress shirt. You slumped against his chest. You took a minute to collect yourself before climbing off of him. You walked over to where your panties were and picked them up. You looked at Bucky who was still breathing heavily on the bed.
“You okay?” You asked as you leaned on the desk across from the bed. He sat up and tucked himself back into his slacks.
“Yeah, yeah. Better than okay.” He nodded, and you smiled walked up, and kissed him as you tucked your panties into his suit jacket pocket.
“Something borrowed.” You winked, and then pulled back. “You better get back down there before my mother comes looking for you.” You shrugged, and he looked a bit disappointed but shook it off.
“Yeah, right. I’ll see you around.” He smiled and then walked out. You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding. You flopped on the bed extremely aware of the throb in your heart. Good job, you just broke your own heart.

Derek- Unlikely Allies
A/N: Hey guys, this is a rewrite of something I made a really long time ago. I wanted to mess around with some old concepts that I feel I didn’t flesh out enough. Let me know what you think, or if you want a part 2 of this one!
You raced through the pitch black corridor, shining your flashlight back and forth. You caught glimpses of grimy cement as you ran, narrowly dodging debris on the floor of the old rail depot. It was littered with rusted metal and broken glass, no doubt remnants of Beacon Hills’ abandoned subway cars.
It was fitting for Derek to have his hideout here, you thought. He seemed to have a habit of living in abandoned places. It must have been working pretty well, because finding him had been difficult. You had torn up your father’s office trying to find the place, knowing Allison must have discovered Derek’s location somewhere in the maps cluttering his desk.
Your father had narrowed down a couple locations, one of them being the abandoned rail depot on the outskirts of town. When you took a chance and drove out there, a glimpse of Allison’s car out front confirmed your suspicions. She was here to kill Derek.
You cursed yourself as you searched the depot, wondering if you could have stopped Gerard from getting into her head. Maybe if you had paid more attention, you wouldn’t have had to try and reverse the damage your grandfather had done.
A light up ahead caught your attention. There was a staircase to your right, dimly illuminated from the floor below. You clicked the flashlight off and crept closer.
“Wait, stop. You don’t know what you’re doing.”
That was Derek’s voice.
“Shut up!”
And that was Allison’s.
You swore under your breath. As you crept down the stairs, you saw Allison standing in front of one of the old subway cars. She had her crossbow raised, and Derek was lying on his back in front of her. He held one hand up defensively, while the other gripped an arrow that was sticking out of his right thigh. Blood was pooling around the wound, which wouldn’t be able to heal until the arrow was removed.
“You killed my mother!” she spat. Her voice was trembling.
“Your family’s little honor code killed your mother,” Derek snapped.
You rolled your eyes. Leave it to Derek to still be an ass, even with a crossbow trained on his chest.
Allison’s finger moved onto the trigger, and you bolted down the stairs. “Wait!”
She glanced over her shoulder, and when she saw you approaching, her brown eyes widened. She turned back to Derek, keeping the crossbow steady.
“You shouldn’t have followed me, Y/n.”
“I’m trying to protect you,” you told her.
She let out a bitter laugh. “From what? The monsters? I think we’re past that.”
“Allison-”
“You hid this from me!” she spat. “And now you want to try and protect me? Mom is dead. Maybe you should have protected her.”
You looked down and met Derek’s eyes. He knew that Allison was willing to pull the trigger and so did you. He seemed to be asking the same question you were. Could you stop her?
“I’m trying to protect you from yourself. Killing him won’t bring her back, Allison.”
“No, but it will make me feel better.”
“You sure about that?” Derek asked.
“Yes,” she snarled, moving her finger back onto the trigger.
She might have actually pulled it if you had given her the chance. You couldn’t have been sure, but you weren’t willing to risk it. Derek was an ally that you needed, whether Allison knew that or not. If saving him meant Gerard would be stopped, you had to do what you did next.
Allison froze at the sound of you cocking your gun behind her. “Put it down.”
“Or what?” she asked bitterly. “You’ll put me down?”
A chill ran down your spine. It was the same thing your father had said to Kate on the night she was killed. Allison’s words brought back the bittersweet feelings your aunt’s death had caused.
“If I have to,” you finally said.
“I’m your sister.” Her voice was uneven, as if she was trying to stop herself from crying.
“I don’t know what you are anymore. All I see right now is the monster that Gerard created.”
Her hands were trembling. The crossbow was shaking in her grip. For a moment, you wondered if you had said the wrong thing.
Then the weapon fell from her hands, clattering to the cement floor. Allison bolted, running out of the room and up the same stairs you had come down. You could see the tears dripping down her cheeks as she left. Guilt washed over you, but you knew you couldn’t go after her.
You holstered your gun and walked toward Derek.
“I’m sorry,” you apologized, holding out a hand.
Derek glared up at you from the dirty floor. He yanked the arrow out of his thigh with a grunt. He didn’t take your hand as he got up, but he did mutter gruffly “You’re not the one who shot me.”
You watched as the  wound in his leg began to close up, leaving nothing but a bloody stain and a slight rip in his jeans. He began to turn away from you, heading toward one of the rickety subway cars.
“I need your help,” you blurted out.
Derek paused, and turned to raise an eyebrow at you. “With what?”
“I need to kill Gerard.”
“You think that’s gonna save your family?”
You didn’t falter under his gaze. “It’s going to save Allison.”
He crossed his arms over his chest, staring at you for a moment. You looked exhausted, and the dim lights of the old subway station hollowed out your face. Your eyes were still full of life though, sharp and gleaming. Derek could see how desperate you were.
“What if it can’t?” he asked. “What if she…?”
“What if she turns into Kate?”
He nodded solemnly.
“Then I’ll kill her myself,” you said softly. “But she doesn’t understand that he’s manipulating her right now. She thinks she’s doing what she wants.”
“And how do I know I can trust you?” he asked.
“We have a common enemy. And right now, I couldn’t care less about you being an alpha. Bite as many kids as you want. Hell, bite me if you want to. I just want my sister back.”
Derek’s lips twitched. Was he actually smiling at you?
“You’d let me bite you if I helped you?”
You felt your breath catch in your throat. “If that’s what it takes.”
Derek raised his eyebrows. “Really?”
“Yes.”
“Fine. Give me your arm.”
You cautiously held out your left arm. He reached out and took it, stepping toward you so that your chests were almost touching. He raised your arm to his mouth, and his teeth were so close that you could feel his breath on your skin.
He gazed down at you and grinned, revealing his abnormally sharp canines. You swallowed, and suddenly, he chuckled. That broke the stillness in the air, and you realized he was only messing with you.
You wrenched your arm out of his grasp as he laughed. “What the hell is the matter with you?”
He grinned. “You should have seen the look on your face.”
“You’re such an asshole,” you spat. “Forget I asked.”
You turned to go, but he grabbed your wrist. “Wait. If you want to stop Gerard, we need to talk to Scott.”
You turned back, shooting him a skeptical look. “Why Scott?”
“Because we have a plan,” he told you. “And it might be the only chance you have to save your sister.”
“How do I know you’re being serious?” you questioned.
He shrugged. “Like you said, we have a common enemy.”
“And after that?” you asked.
“We can go on hating each other. Just like old times.”
He was right. The werewolves helping you kill Gerard didn’t necessarily mean you would continue to be allies. As soon as he was dead, you could go right back to the vitriol and violence.
Deep down though, you knew things in Beacon Hills were shifting. Without Gerard at the helm of the Argent empire, maybe fighting wouldn’t have to be the only option.
“What if things could be different?”
“Like if we didn’t hate each other?” Derek asked.
“I’ve never hated you.”
“I can’t say the same,” he admitted. “But...I don’t hate you anymore.”
“There shouldn’t always be a war going on between us.”
Derek tilted his head. “That’s the way it’s always been.”
“Maybe...maybe it doesn’t have to be.”
Derek’s gaze was skeptical, and you suddenly felt embarrassed for saying it. Of course the idea of peace sounded ridiculous to him. Then he spoke, his words catching you off guard.
“We’ll see,” he said softly. “Hey, what’s wrong with your arm?”
You glanced down, just now noticing the purple bruising that was blooming along your right forearm. It was throbbing with pain, but in the chaos of trying to stop Allison, you had barely noticed.
You had been headed out of the house after her when you ran into Gerard in the foyer of your home. He was blocking your exit, and when you tried to move past him, he snatched you by the arm. His fingers had gripped you so tightly that you swore the bone was about to break.
“You’ll never catch her in time.”
“Let go of me,” you spat at him.
Gerard had simply stared at you with those dark eyes of his. “You’ve always been my greatest disappointment.”
Without a second thought, you slammed your knee between his legs. “Good.”
He had grunted in pain, and his knees buckled. You wrenched your arm out of his grasp and ran. You sped all the way to the rail depot, paranoid he would chase after you and stop you.
“It’s nothing,” you told Derek. “I’m fine.”
He wasn’t buying it. “Did Gerard do that to you?”
“Does it matter?”
“Here,” Derek told you, reaching for your arm.
“What are you-”
“Trust me?”
You didn’t say anything more, and he took that a yes. He placed one hand under your wounded arm to steady it, and the other one over the bruise. His movements were tender and soft, something you wouldn’t have expected from Derek. You gasped as the veins in his arm began to turn black, and you realized your pain was ebbing away.
When you looked up, there was a hint of a smile playing at his lips. “I bet the hunters never told you we could do that, huh?”
You shook your head, still stunned as he gently held your arm in his hands. “Why did you do that?”
“Maybe you’re right,” he said softly. “Maybe things can be different.”
You looked into Derek’s green eyes, and for once, you saw something similar inside of them. You and Derek  were both struggling under the weight of your families’ bloody past. You both needed to prove them wrong. If anyone could understand you, it was him.
You pulled away, but a part of you hesitated for a moment. Something was stirring inside of you, but you refused to acknowledge it while there was so much going on. By the way Derek was looking at you, you could tell he felt it too.
Finally, you cleared your throat. “So we need to talk to Scott?”
“Yeah,” he said, awkwardly bringing his arms back down to his sides. “We’ve got a homicidal maniac to kill.”
For now that was the plan. Kill Gerard, take back your family, and save Allison. After that, maybe you and Derek could be something more than unlikely allies.

Babysitting was supposed to be easy. You loved babysitting. You did lots in your youth. You worked very well with kids. Well, at least that’s what you thought before your sister dropped her kids off.
“Lacey needs to be in bed by 7, otherwise she just won’t sleep the rest of the night. The only thing Noah will eat are chicken tenders. You have those right? Try to get him to eat some carrots, too, okay? Thanks,” Your sister, Monica, said.
She handed you a duffle bag full of baby supplies and games for Noah.
“Oh, and Noah likes to watch Paw Patrol, but if you want him to calm down, put on Aladdin or The Little Mermaid. He likes the monkey and Ariel. Oh! And-”
“I got it, Mon. I used to babysit when we were younger, remember?” You said.
“Right, right. Okay, well if you need to know anything else there’s a little folder Dan and I put together.”
“Noted. I doubt I’ll need it, though,” you chuckled.
“You probably will,” Monica laughed breathily. She then bent down to Noah.”Be good for Aunt Y/n, okay, my loves? Mommy and Daddy will be back in the morning.” She got back up and kissed Lacey on the cheek, causing the baby to babble.
“Bye, Mommy!” Noah exclaimed.
“Bye, honey!” Monica waved. She then left, picking up her dress and heading over to her car.
“Have fun!” You shouted as the drove away. You then shut the door and smiled at the baby in your arm and the 5 year old on the ground.
“Hey, so what do you guys wanna do?” You asked.
Noah looked around, spotting your cat. “Kitty!” He shouted, running full speed to the cat.
“Oh, Noah, please don’t! Hazel doesn’t like it when people run at her!” You exclaimed, running over to him with Lacey still in your arms.
You saw Hazel jump to the ground and run upstairs. Noah pouted and looked to you.
“Kitty didn’t wanna play,” he said. “Well, cats generally don’t like to play with people they don’t know, Noah. Why don’t we watch some TV and play with some of your toys. Kitty might come out if we are calm,” you smiled at him.
“No! I want Kitty now!” Noah screamed, running up stairs.
“Noah!” You shouted. You went to run after him, but Lacey giggled in your arms, reminding you that you had another kid to look after.
“Alright uh, why don’t we put you in your playpen, okay?” You suggested.
Lacey babbled again in reply.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” you smiled.
You carried her to your living room where Dan, Monica’s husband, had set up the playpen. You set Lacey in, setting in a few toys. You then turned on a baby monitor, setting it right beside the playpen. You took another monitor and clipped it to your pants so you were able to hear Lacey at all times. You then started to go upstairs, hoping that Hazel didn’t attack Noah.
“Hazel? Noah?” You called out.
“Are those your other partners, darling? I don’t think I agreed to an open relationship with you,” a sexy, Australian voice sounded from behind you.
You stopped in your track, holding the railing as you turned around.
“Kol?! What are you doing here?” You asked, a big smile on your face.
“Well, I was taking a stroll around the neighbourhood and couldn’t help but be curious as to why there were two children being thrown into your house,” he explained with a smile.
You chuckled and climbed back down the stairs, walking over to him. “They’re my sister’s. That one is Lacey,” you said, pointing to the baby in the playpen.
“Oh, my. She is adorable!” Kol exclaimed, walking over to the baby.
“Yeah, she is,” you nodded. “I uh, I have to go and check on Noah. He’s my sister’s 5 year-old. He was chasing Hazel.”
“Want me to help?” Kol asked.
“No, it’s okay. I got this. I’m great with kids,” you reassured.
“Oh, I bet,” Kol smirked. “What?” You asked, crossing your arms around your chest.
“Nothing, nothing. Now go, I’ll stay with Lacey,” Kol smiled.
“Alright,” you sighed, turning around on your heel.
You ran up the stairs, going straight to your bedroom, knowing that that’s where Hazel liked to hide. You busted through the door, groaning as you saw Noah on his stomach, reaching under your bed.
“Hey, Noah, leave Hazel alone, okay?” You asked.
“I want to see see Kitty!” Noah exclaimed. “Well, Kitty needs to some to adjust you,” you explained.
“Why?” Noah asked. “Because cats are shy and reserved, unlike dogs who like people,” you answered.
“C’mon, why don’t we go and get you a snack,” you suggested, getting on your knees.
“I’m not hungry,” Noah grumbled. “Then how about we watch a movie? Your mom told me you like Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, right?”
“Yeah, but I wanna play with Kitty,” Noah said.
You rolled your eyes, your irritation building. “You have to let her come to you okay. I know it’s a little annoying, but that’s just how cats are.”
“Noah, why don’t we go and play with your trains,” Kol said from your doorway.
Your head snapped up to him, glaring. “I told you I got this.” “Yeah, it sure sounds like it, darling,” Kol chuckled. He got down next to you, smiling at Noah.
“Who are you?” Noah asked, looking at him.
“I am Kol. Y/n’s boyfriend. I didn’t realise she was watching you and your sister today,” Kol smiled.
“Yeah, she’s my Aunt,” Noah said. “I know, she told me. So, what is the problem you are having here?” Kol asked.
“I want to pet Kitty, but she’s hiding,” Noah pouted.
“Ah, well cats are pus-”
“Kol!” You slapped his arm. Kol rolled his eyes, “Cats are annoying. I prefer dogs, myself. Why don’t we just bring your toys up here and wait until the cat comes out?”
“Okay!” Noah smiled. He got up to get his toys from downstairs.
You scoffed, “Why does he listen to you and not me?”
“Because boys listen to other boys. Unless it’s their mother,” Kol explained.
“Wow, so even 5 year-olds are sexist?” You asked jokingly. “No, not like that,” Kol rolled his eyes.
“Mhm,” you hummed. “Well let me get Lacey since we are staying up here.”
“No, no. Why don’t I deal with Noah, you go and watch Lacey,” Kol said.
“Hm, alright. You have fun in your little boy’s club,” you smirked, getting up.
“Will do,” Kol smiled at you. He got up with you, putting his hand on your waist and pulling you in.
“Kol, no,” you giggled. “Just one kiss, love,” Kol said, looking deeply into your eyes.
You sighed, knowing you wouldn’t be able to resist him. You put your arms around his neck, leaning up to press your lips against his. You melted into him immediately, kissing him chastely. You pulled away after a few moments, hearing Noah’s footsteps approach your room.
“Have fun, gorgeous,” Kol winked at you. “Will do,” you chuckled.
You went downstairs, going over to Lacey who was standing up in her playpen.
“Wow, you’re stronger than I thought,” you chuckled. You went to the duffle bag, pulling out the folder Dan and her made. You went to Lacey’s feeding schedule and looked at the clock.
“Looks like it’s time for dinner,” you smiled.
You got out the bottle of breast milk that Monica had packed and heated it up, going back over to Lacey. You set the bottle on the coffee table, grabbing Lacey out of her playpen and laying her down in your arms. You then grabbed the bottle and attempted the feed her, but she kept resisting.
“C’mon, Lacey. I know you’re hungry,” you said. “I know I’m not your mom, so it’s a little weird, but you can trust me.”
Lacey looked up at you, smiling and giggling. Her little hands reached out for the bottle. You breathed out in relief.
“That’s it, good girl, Lacey,” you cooed as you put the bottle gently in her mouth.
She drank for a good few moments before she pulled away.
“All done?” You asked as if she could answer. You set the bottle down, lifting Lacey up gently.
“Okay, do you wanna be burped?” You asked again.
Lacey looked up a you, a mischievous grin on her lips.
“What is that looks for?” You giggled, lifting her up to your shoulder.
As you were would to get a cloth, Lacey then spit up on your shoulder and in your hair.
“Oh, shi-sugar!” You exclaimed. “I must have fed you too much, I’m sorry,” you apologised to the squealing baby.
You set Lacey down in her playpen, going over to your kitchen to get a washcloth. You came back to the living room to find Kol with Noah in his arms.
“I heard you shout, you okay?” Kol asked. “Yeah, I’m fine. I just got spit up on, though,” you groaned, gesturing to your hair that was now sticky due to your sister’s breast milk.
“Yikes. You must have fed her too much,” Kol said.
“Well obviously,” you rolled your eyes. “It’s been a while since I’ve taken care of a baby, you know?”
Kol chuckled, “Are you sure you’re prepared for this?”
“Yes. I am CPR and First Aid certification. I have the Pediatrician’s number. I took 10 baby-sitting classes when I was 16 so I was able to do baby-sitting as a business, so I’m pretty prepared. It’s just some kids are more difficult than other’s,” you shrugged.
“Wow, I never knew you did all that to be able to watch children,” Kol said, genuinely surprised.
“Yeah, well, if a kid dies on your hands, you can go to jail,” you sighed.
“Americans are so weird. Back in the day, if a child died while you were taking care of them, it probably means they were weak and didn't deserve to live,” Kol remarked.
“Don’t say that in front of the kids!” You scolded. “And yeah, that was in like, ancient times. I’m glad it’s changed.”
“Are you calling me ancient?” Kol asked. “Hm… yeah,” you smirked.
“How rude. I know why these kids don’t like you, then,” Kol teased.
“Who’s the rude one now?” You challenged, going to your laundry room to put the washcloth in the dirty basket.
You came back to Kol and Noah sitting on the couch with Lacey on Kol’s lap.
“I think you have competition, babe,” Kol laughed. “Well, she’s cuter than me, so I’ll let it pass,” you laughed, sitting down with him.
“Can we watch little mermaid?” Noah asked.
“Yeah, of course, buddy,” you nodded. You turned on the TV, going to Disney+ and starting the movie.
“Did you guys get to see Hazel?” You asked.
“No,” Noah shook his head sadly. “Aw, well, I’m sure she’ll come out now that we’ve given her space,” you reassured.
“Yay!” Noah exclaimed.  You couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. You watched half of the movie before you started to feel tired. You had your head on Kol’s shoulder and your arm locked with his. Kol had one of his hands on your knee, his other on Lacey’s back and supporting her as she was sleeping on Kol’s chest.
As you felt yourself start to doze off, Noah then started to talk.
“I’m hungry,” he whined.  You yawned and sat up. “Do you want chicken fingers? I’ll fix some for you.”
“Yeah!” Noah smiled at you and nodded.
You went to get up, but Kol’s hand on your thigh brought you back down.
“What are you doing?” You looked to him. “Let me do it. You’ve been running around trying to take care of these children,” Kol said.
You rolled your eyes. “I’m fine. And I’ve barely done anything.”
“Yes, you have. And I can tell you were about to fall asleep before Noah announced his hunger. Let me do this,” Kol insisted.
“Ugh, fine. What about Lacey?” You asked, gesturing to the sleeping baby.
“You can have her,” he said, picking her up and setting her on your lap.
“Alright,” you sighed, taking Lacey into your arms.
“I’ll be back,” Kol said. You smiled up at him and nodded, turning your attention back to the movie.
Not even a minute later, Lacey started to cry.
“Oh, no. Lacey, what’s wrong?” You asked.
As she wailed, she pointed to Kol, who was placing fries on a baking pan.
“Oh, you gotta be kidding me,” you muttered. “I’ll be back, Noah.”
Noah nodded, his eyes focused on the movie. You got up, taking Lacey with you.
“What’s up?” Kol asked as he set the pan in the oven.
“You seriously didn’t hear her crying,” you gestured to the sniffling baby.
“I did, I just thought Noah did something,” Kol shrugged.
“Hm, nope. She wants you,” you said. Kol shut the oven with a smile.
“Really? I feel so honoured.”
“Yeah, yeah. Just take the baby. I feel bad enough she spit on me. I don't want her to keep crying because she doesn’t want me to hold her,” you frowned, holding Lacey up.
“Maybe she needs her diaper changed,” Kol suggested.
“No, I changed her diaper in the beginning of the movie, remember?” You said.
“Yes, but babies poop and pee all the time. Let’s check,” he said and held up Lacey to his nose.
“Oh, yeah, she needs to be changed,” Kol cringed, handing her to you.
“What! Why me?” You asked. “Well, because she obviously wasn’t crying because of you,” Kol said.
“She’s gonna pee on me. I know it,” you said, taking the baby back.
“That’d be funny,” Kol chuckled.
You glared at him, making him apologise.
“Sorry. Fine, I’ll stand there with you. I’ve never changed a baby’s diaper, anyways,” Kol said.
“Yeah, and you probably never will,” you sighed. Kol frowned, “Well, you never know. We can always adopt.”
You smiled, “Yeah, true.”
You two went to the living room, grabbing the duffle bag and going to the bathroom. You cleaned up Lacey successfully, Kol clapping.
“Wow, I would never be able to do that,” Kol said.
“Next time I’ll give you a chance,” you smirked, lifting Lacey back up.
“Alright, let's go back and relax,” you said. Kol nodded and walked with you to the living room.
You were pleasantly surprised to see Hazel there next to Noah.
“I see you’ve got the Kitty,” you smiled.
“Yeah! She likes me,” Noah giggled. “I bet she does,” you nodded.  “Kol, can we play with the trains?” Noah asked.
“Yeah, of course, buddy,” Kol smiled. You went to the couch with Lacey, Lacey sitting up and babbling while pointing to Kol.
“I think someone wants you, babe,” you chucked.
Kol got up and took Lacey, setting her down on the floor in-between his legs.
“Need any help?” You asked laying down on the couch.
“Nope,” Kol said. “Okay,” you sighed, closing your eyes.
And before you knew it, you were fast asleep. Kol smiled fondly at you, getting up quickly and placing a blanket over you. He then grabbed all the pillows and another blanket, creating a little play space for Lacey.
“Alright, you sit right there and if you fall, the pillows will be there to support you,” he said.
He then started to play with Noah.
“How long?” Noah asked. “How long what?” Kol asked.
Noah pointed to you and then back at him.
Kol chuckled. “Oh, I see. Well, we’ve known each other as friends for 2 years. I asked her ask out 2 years ago and we’ve been dating ever since.”
“Do you love her?” Noah asked, looking up at Kol with big, innocent eyes.
Kol chuckled, staring at you as he spoke. “Yeah, I love her. I love her a lot.”
Noah giggled. “My daddy says ‘i love you’ to us and my mommy every night.”
“He’s a good man,” Kol said. Noah nodded, going back to playing with his trains.
You woke up 2 hours later to faint singing and a dark room.
“Kol?” You called out once you got more awake. You looked around the room, starting to panic once you realised Noah and Lacey weren’t in the room.
“Noah? Lacey?” You called out. As you started to get up, Kol walked into the room.
“Kol? Where are the kids? I-I accidentally fell asleep,” you breathed out.
Kol gave you a smile and walked over to you, wrapping his arms around you.
“The children are fine, darling. They’re both sleeping,” he explained, pressing a soft kiss to your head.
“Oh,” you chuckled. You looked up at him with a thankful smile. “Thank you so much for helping today. I’m afraid my baby sitting skills are a little rusty.”
Kol shrugged with a smile, “No worries. I like helping you and spending time with you. Plus, I have discovered I’m actually good at taking care of children.”
“You are. Who would’ve known under all that murder-vampire-ness, you would have a soft spot for kids,” you smiled.
“I also have a soft spot for you,” Kol said, setting his hands on your hips and leaning in.
“Oh, is that so?” You smirked, entangling your fingers in his hair,
“Mhm,” Kol hummed, pressing his lips to your’s.

Porch Kisses~ Aaron Hotchner
Word Count:1.5k
Warnings: nothing it’s pretty fluffy. Hotch cusses once but that’s the craziest it gets.
A/N: I wrote this in second POV to mix it up so if it’s trash or there’s grammar mistakes I am sorry. I did try to proofread it. It is based off of this concept ask: Hotch taking jack to a birthday party for a friend from school and he meets the kid’s aunt and falls for her and it’s so fluffy ughhh
Tumblr media
This weekend was your nephew’s 7th birthday party. He was having a few friends over for his party and you came over early to help your sister with everything. She warned you that one of the dad’s was pretty hot and that he worked for the FBI. You’d be lying if you said that didn’t interest you at least a little bit.
You found out that it was Alex’s friend, Jack whose dad your sister was trying to hook you up with. You were busy refilling the punch when you heard Alex scream Jack’s name in excitement so you turned to see the small blonde boy and his dad. His dad was well over 6 feet tall and extremely attractive.
They had a gift bag for Alex that his dad walked over to the gift table then headed towards the drink bowl that you were still refilling with a potpourri of ingredients. “Can I get some or should I wait?” He asked. “I would wait, I haven't added everything so the proportions may be off. I’m almost done though” you explained. “Take your time” he said.
“Your Alex’s aunt right?” He asked as you finished mixing the punch. “Yeah, you’re Jack’s dad right?” You replied. “Yes, you can call me Aaron. It’s a little more specific than Jack’s dad” he laughed lightly. “Alright, Aaron. I’m Y/N” you told him. “I think I can remember that,” he smiled. “So my sister said you work for the FBI?” You offered.
“Yeah, the justice department. I love my job but I’m gone a lot so it’s difficult to be here for Jack as much as I would like to be” he explained. “Well I’m sure Jack’s mom takes good care of him when you’re gone” you said which you quickly realized was a big mistake. “His mom, my ex-wife passed away two years ago but her sister watches him when I’m gone. She’s usually the one to take him to these things. I feel so out of place” he admitted.
“I’m sorry for loss but I know what you mean. My sister asked me to help but I don’t know anyone but our family” you chuckled. “Well now you know me” Aaron smiled as he finally got a cup of punch. “I guess I do” you smiled back as your sister called out it was time for cake.
You and Aaron went your separate ways but you kept sneaking glances at one another and smiled or offered a small wave in the other person’s direction throughout the party. Jack was getting sleepy and Aaron had him tossed over his shoulder as he was getting ready to leave. It made you sad that you weren’t going to see this devilishly handsome man again but then he started walking towards you.
“So my schedule is kind of crazy but I was wondering if you wanted to go for dinner sometime?” Aaron asked. “I think I’d like that” you smiled eagerly. “I can call you when I’m not on a case”, he offered. “Okay, I can give you my number” you replied. Aaron reached his free hand down to his pocket and quickly realized Jack was sleeping on the side with his phone.
“Give me your hand, I have a pen and I can write it on your hand like we did in the 90’s before everyone had cell phones” you laughed as he gave you his large hand. You scribbled your number down then let his hand go. “I’ll talk to you later then” he said. “Sounds good” you responded.
After the party had died down you found your sister. “I saw you talking to Mr. Hotchner a lot today” she commented. “His name is Aaron and he asked me on a date, I gave him my number” you confessed. “Damn, sis. Way to go” she encouraged.
A couple weeks went by and Aaron had to cancel your date twice because of his job but you understood, telling him not to worry about it. You were starting to get nervous that he had changed his mind until he showed up at your door one night.
“Aaron what are you doing here?” You asked in confusion. “I decided that we were going to dinner while I was home so I didn’t have to reschedule again and scare you away” he replied. “It takes a little more than a couple rescheduled dates to scare me away” you told him. “I didn’t want to take the chance so we have reservations at eight” Aaron said.
“I’ll have to get ready”, you admitted. “You look beautiful but for where we are going you are a tad underdressed with the sweatpants” he chuckled. “You can come sit on the couch, help yourself to the tv. Give me 20 minutes” you offered. “Okay” he agreed.
You quickly twirled your hair into a cute little up-do that didn’t take too long, did a quick run through of a basic makeup routine, then found a beautiful black dress with some red heels. After looking in the mirror, you decided you were missing one thing. Lipstick. Rummaging through your makeup bag you applied the red lipstick that accented your makeup and your outfit perfectly.
You walked back out into the living and Aaron turned to look at you. “Excuse my French but you look fucking stunning” he complimented. “Thank you. Are you ready?” You asked. “Whenever you are”, he replied. We made our way out of the door as you locked it. Aaron was a couple steps ahead of you. Out of nowhere, you felt courageous, maybe it was the excitement or it could be the lipstick, who knows.
In a wave of confidence you called his name as he turned back to you. “Is everything alright?” He asked. You took a step closer, smashing your lips onto his. He was surprised at first, his body tensed but it quickly released as he melted into the kiss. You pulled away smiling. “What was that for?” He wondered. “I figured we could get it out of the way so it wouldn’t be awkward later” you smirked as you grabbed his hand pulling him towards the sidewalk.
You made it to dinner. It was an over priced restaurant that you had never heard of and you were shocked he was able to get a reservation so last minute but apparently one of his coworkers plays poker with the owner so they pulled some strings. You guys talked about your jobs, your favorite things, and even Jack and Alex.
It turns out Jack is a pretty funny kid. “So Jack asked me the morning after Alex’s party if I thought you were pretty” Aaron admits. “Oh yeah? And what was your response?” You teased. “I told him that I thought you were very pretty and then he asked if I was going to take you on a date and I told him that I planned to” He admitted. “What did he say about that?” You replied.
“He told me that if we got married that it would be really cool because him and Alex would be related. I told him not to get ahead of himself and we needed to see how dinner went before we started sending out any invitations” Aaron chuckled. “Kids are so funny aren’t they?” You laughed. “Yes, they are” he replied, smiling. “Well you can report back to Jack that the date went very well and if his dad is interested that I would love to go on another one when he’s not on a case” you confessed.
“I’ll be sure to let Jack and his dad know that”, Aaron smiled. “Sounds great” you agreed. Aaron insisted that he pay for the meal and then he drove you home. He walked you to the door as you both stood underneath the porch light. “You know I think the last time we were standing on this porch something exciting happened” you teased. Luckily, Aaron took the hint. “Yeah, if I remember correctly it went something like this” he said as he leaned down to connect your lips again.
His lips were soft and slow. His right hand was pressed up against your cheek as your lips melted together. Aaron pulled away first, “I hope you had fun tonight” he murmured. “I did, thank you. It was spontaneous and fun but simple” you told him. “Sounds tough to beat” he chuckled. “I’m sure you can manage”, you reassured.
“I’ll ask Jack what he thinks. We may end up going to a park and eating chicken nuggets” he joked. “Sounds like a good time to me” you laughed. “Goodnight, Y/N” he said. “Goodnight, Aaron” I said as I walked inside of my house and shut the door.
Tonight was a lot of fun and you had more in common than you expected. You looked forward to your next date whenever it may be. And as much fun as a park and chicken nuggets sound, you were sure Aaron would come up with something a little less kid friendly.

After I finished my post last night I ended up getting very upset about my dad. And cried on James for a little. And decided I should just. Go and see my parents today. And so that's exactly what I did.
The decision made me sleep a lot better. James got me a different blanket out and I slept pretty great. I did wake up before my alarm and felt pretty good. I always wake up easier when I have something to do. I got up and made the bed and went to get dressed.
Something scratched my eye and I couldn't get it to stop hurting for a half hour. Which was frustrating. But I used a bunch of eye drops and tried to wash my eye out. I couldn't really put mascara on because of it. But whatever.
James and me left here at 730. I drove us out to the museum to drop them off and went to great breakfast. I got out of the car to give them a big hug and kiss and then was off.
Except not really. Because when I got to McDonald's I realized I had James's coffee still. I texted them and they biked up to me to get it and I got one extra kiss. Very sweet. Love them so much.
I had a good drive out. It took about 2 hours and there was not traffic. I listened to lots of music. I did end up crying listening to some show tunes. Happens sometimes. I needed the catharsis I guess.
I was excited to be out of the car when I got there around 10. My legs kind of felt like jelly. But I was so happy to see my parents. And the doggies.
It was really great spending time together. We talked about my dad's leg. Which looked pretty scary and he looked pretty pale. But he was in good spirits. I did not like hearing him say 'if' around coming to my wedding. But I also just want him to be okay and whatever that takes is more important. I don't want to be selfish but I also. Have to have him there. It isn't acceptable that he wouldn't be there.
Around 11 my aunt Renee came over. She's not actually my aunt, she's my sister's mom. But she's always been my aunt and she's lovely. I really enjoyed all of us hanging out. I got to learn a lot more about my dad's younger life and there were lots of laughs. I don't think she's heard me talk so much before. I was kind of a standoffish kid. But man did she hear me today. I talk a lot and very fast. My grad school director used to say I talk through the trees. And it's absolutely true, I get there eventually but we are not on a path at all. I think she thought I was funny though and that is still positive.
We ordered lunch. And we compared jewelry. Talked about childhoods and memories. I told them all about art and stories from my life. Renee told us about the wild 21 day vacation she's going on. Which sounds amazing. And we talked about the wedding and how things are going to be. The decorations and the hotels and stuff.
We have to make some changes to the plan because of moving my dad around. But that is okay. So I may stay in the hotel on Thursday instead of James. But we will see.
Renee left and I spent another hour and a half with my parents. We talked about music and life and it was really nice. I wanted to stay more but I also wanted to get home before 9.
So I said goodbye. Mom sent me home with detergent and cat food. I let her know my dad's car windows were open? I got pictures with them and gave them hugs and then I was off.
The drive home was not as pleasant. It was directly into the sun the entire drive. And just horrible traffic. So it took almost 3 hours. Which was not ideal. I tried to keep myself awake and aware by having a full dance party. Which was a lot of fun and very silly.
I had the two pieces of pizza my mom gave me before I left. So at least I wasnt starving. I would take a break after 2 hours to stretch my legs. Mostly because my foot hurt really bad today. But I would just walk around the rest stop for a couple minutes before I was off and back on the road.
I got back here closer to 830 then I was happy about. But I got home in one piece.
I was really happy to see James. They were a little sad because they somehow lost their engagement ring. Again. I'm not upset but I feel bad that they are upset. It will be alright.
We both showered and that made me feel a lot better. Though I am pretty exhausted. I am also excited because I just got offered the grant position at the visionary museum! I hope it leads to more!!
But now is time for sleep. I hope you all sleep great. Take care of yourself! I have the garage sale with Anne, I hope it is fun! I hope you have a great night!! Sleep good!!

Drake
2008
When I was 12 years old, my mother took off with my little sister leaving me in Cordonia with my father's best friend. I reminded her too much of my father, too much of a life she would do anything to forget. That "anything" included abandoning her oldest son. I'd like to say I was surprised, but the truth is I wasn't. Bianca Walker had never been a motherly woman. The only reason she had taken Savannah with her was that my Aunt Leona adored her. I was sure my mother would dump my little sister on her and never look back. I hoped that was the case, Leona despised me, but she was great to Savannah.
A short time after that, Bastien passed away and my mother was nowhere to be found. That's when I started to go from one home to another. The first year and a half were the hardest ones. I lived with four different families, each one worse than the last. First, the Lockes, where the family barely talked to me. Then, the Ruiz that made me take cold showers and sleep on the floor. The Godwins where the “mother” used the check the state gave her to buy alcohol instead of groceries. And finally the worse, the Fields. They seemed nice enough when I met them. Not kind but polite. The first few weeks everything seemed normal. Then one day, I got in trouble at school, and Mr. Fields --the pastor of his community, beat me up to “teach me some manners.” His punishments became a usual thing after that.
Eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore, so I escaped. Better to be on my own than believe some family was going to love or adopt me. Obviously, there was something very wrong with me. My own mother had left me, and I had never found my place anywhere else.
I lived on the streets for 6 months. I did all kinds of jobs. Not a lot of them were legal but there were few opportunities for a 14-year-old runaway kid. The most money I got was when I stole car parts that I got to resell to a gang called the Mercy Park Crew. The boss, Mr. Kaneko was fair and paid well enough. I could’ve kept living by myself if something hadn’t got terribly wrong at my last job. One of the boys from a rival gang decided to teach me a lesson and I ended up in the hospital with a concussion. A nurse called social services so here I am in a car with another social worker on the way for another foster home. It doesn’t matter, I know it won’t last anyway.
When you’ve been in the system as long as I had, you learned to look for certain warning signs when placed in a new home. Drugs, ulterior motives, threatening fathers, drinking mothers. After an hour, we drove through a town looking like something straight out of a movie. Valtoria. I’d heard of it before. The family my dad had been protecting when he died lived there. The house we pulled up to, was a large two-story construction with dark brown siding and an immaculate green lawn.
Joelle, my new caseworker had popped up out of nowhere in the hospital and told me I was coming with her. Just like that. From the way Joelle talked about the new place, I figured it was some sort of transitional home for rejects like me. Too old to get adopted and too troubled for anyone to voluntarily take on. I didn’t ask her anything else because I knew I didn’t have a fucking choice. Besides, I knew words don’t mean anything. I was a kid in the system. I went where they took me. Sometimes, I hated it. Sometimes, I really hated it. This time was different. In more ways than one. Usually, I was dropped off by my caseworker, and the people receiving me were about as excited as they were about junk mail. No one has ever come out to greet me before. As long as the woman at the door wasn’t sizing me up for a skin suit, it didn’t matter.
The social worker got out of the car as I grabbed the trash bag that I used to carry my shit around. She rang the bell, and a small, older woman opened the door. Joelle had told me in the car that the woman fostered several boys and I knew what that meant. She wanted the money the government gave her for keeping us. Well, I wasn’t going to make it easy for her. If she wanted to cash a check at the end of the month it was going to cost her. I’d make sure of it.
I had seen it all, but I still was caught by surprise when the tiny woman opened her arms at me and gave me a one-sided hug. A fucking hug.
“I’m very happy to meet you, mijo,” she said in a strong accent. “My name is Angelica Ortiz but everyone here calls me Abuela. Grandma in Spanish.”
The woman was deluded if she thought I’d call her grandma. She was obviously trying to impress the social worker with her fake kindness, hugs, and stupid names. I wasn’t going to be fooled that easily.
I didn’t even answer her as we stepped into the house. Another woman, a younger version of the one staring at me was waiting for us in the living room.
“Hi, you must be Drake. I’m Elena. Welcome.” She gave me a smile. Fake, I was sure but at least she hadn't tried to hug me. The older woman was talking to Joelle about me. Probably about my problems with authority, anger issues, and lack of communication skills. I knew my file by heart.
I barely nodded at Elena, and the three women exchanged a look. “Let me take you to your room, Drake. You’ll be sharing it with Maxwell. He’s doing his homework with my daughter in our house across the street. You’ll get to meet all the boys and my daughter Lexie tonight.”
She walked me to a room on the second floor of the house. It seemed clean and comfortable. Another ploy for the social worker. Two bunker beds with blue blankets and a wooden desk full of books were the biggest pieces of furniture. The left side of the room was covered in posters of who I figured were famous boy bands. There were a few of David Beckham, the only guy I recognized. Other than that there were clothes everywhere. That Maxwell dude was a fucking slob. Great.
“I told Max to take down some posters so you can decorate half of the room to your liking; This is your room as much as it is his. He's usually much more organized than this." I notice she speaks with a sort of fondness. "It was picture day for the school yearbook and he took hours getting ready. ”
I shrugged. I wasn’t planning to stay long anyway. I couldn’t care less if that Max kid left his posters on the walls or not.
She glanced at my garbage bag. “Are those your clothes, mijo?”
I scowled at her. I knew what mijo meant and I was nobody’s son. “My name is Drake.”
She smiled. “Of course, Drake. So, are they?”
I didn’t bother with an answer. A nod was enough.
“I cleared you this part of the closet, so you can keep them there. When you’re ready come downstairs; my mom and I will show you the rest of the house. The boys are out but we’ll all diner together tonight. Do you like Mexican food?”
I shrugged.
The woman smiled. “Shrugging is not an answer, mij- Drake. Either you like it, you don’t, or you haven’t tasted it in which case I can tell you, you’re missing out. Especially when mami cooks.” She winked at me as if we were friends or something. The woman was insane. “So, what is it, Drake?”
I’d never had it before, but she wasn’t going to tell me how to answer a damn question. “I hate it.”
She frowned --clearly disappointed, and I almost felt bad for her. Almost. “I’m very sorry to hear that. We already made Enchiladas for tonight and we don’t waste food. You can tell us your favorite dish though so we can make it for you.”
I shrugged again. Generally, that's when the person talking to me loses her patience but Elena Ortiz only smiled at me again. “Think about it. Every Sunday night, we pick someone’s favorite and cook it. It’s really fun. Next Sunday will be your first here, so you get to pick. Mami is a great cook and she can make anything from a mean chocolate cake to the best cheese pizza. See you downstairs, honey.”
Great. I’ve only been in this house for a few minutes, and I already hated it. The only thing worse than a home where you were beaten up as a welcome was a home where people pretended to care. My third foster home had been like that. Ms. Godwin had been all kind and nice at first. I almost felt like she cared about us. A week later, she had gotten drunk. For two days, neither I or the two girls she fostered had anything to eat because she hadn’t bought any groceries. I had to steal a twenty euro bill from her purse to buy food. She got angry and called the social worker who had come for me and taken me to the Fields. The worst home I ever lived in.
I wasn’t going to go downstairs but I decided that if I wanted a chance to escape it was better if I knew the house. Before I could explore a little, I heard my name from what I assumed was the kitchen.
Elena was crouching in front of the oven. “Drake has such sad eyes, mami. He’s only 14.”
The woman that had asked me to call her abuela, answered as she chopped an onion. “This boy has been living in the streets for more than a year. Do you realize it? Pobre angelito. So young and he has already seen more horrors than most people see in a lifetime.”
“Joelle told me that he had escaped from his last foster home.”
The older woman scoffed. “Home? If that’s how you call people that foster kids only for the money, they get in exchange. I don’t want to imagine why he fled those places." She turned to her daughter who had finished whatever she was doing in the oven and was drinking a bottle of water. "Stop watching me work, Elena and help me with diner, por Dios.”
Why was she pretending she didn’t care about the money? It was obvious. No one did anything for free. There was always a catch.
“Dónde está mi venadito?”
“Lexie and Max are at our house doing homework, mami. Be careful, though, if Lexie hears you calling her “your little deer” she’ll kill you. The boys called her Bambi for months after they heard you the last time.”
“Nonsense. She’s my venadito and that’s that. You two will come to eat here tonight. I want Drake to meet everyone.”
Elena rolled her eyes but patted her mom on the back. “Yes mami. Lexie is dying to meet him, she and Max made a chocolate cake for him. I’ll call her in a minute. Where are the boys by the way?”
“Bertie is trying to teach Leo how to drive. Poor boy, I hope he makes it alive.”
“Don’t worry. I’m sure Leo will be careful. Bertrand will be fine.”
“Oh, it’s not Bertie I’m worried about, it’s Leo. Bartie has no patience with him.”
I left the kitchen before they said anything else. I was sure I was going to hate this stupid place. I was angry. More than angry. Furious. After a year of successfully running away, I was back in the damn system. Back in yet another home where people seemed to care about me in front of the social worker just to ignore me –or worse, once she left. I had to admit that my new foster “moms” played their part better than most. The old one had hugged me and the other one had given me a smile that seemed real. But I knew better. No one really cared for me. No one gave a shit where I slept, what I ate, or if I was ill or scared. Not that I was ever scared. I had seen everything.
The front door was locked so I went to the backyard. I saw a small wooden house on top of one of the trees. I decided it was a good place to hide and be myself.
I sat there for a few moments when I heard someone climbing the tree.
“Hi!”
I looked up and saw a girl a couple of years younger than me. She had the biggest pair of brown eyes I’ve ever seen and was smiling at me as if I was her best friend.
“I’m Lexie! I live across the street. I’m Angelica’s granddaughter. You’re Drake, right?” I didn’t think it was possible to smile more but the girl proved me wrong when her grin widened. I simply nodded.
“Welcome! I know that it must be hard for you to feel at home because you like just arrived but you’ll love it here. I promise. Valtoria is great. We have lakes and the mountains and when it’s warm enough we can go camping all night. You’ll love the house too. I mean between you and me the boys are kind of a pain in the ass but they’re pretty great when they want to. Or when they're not teasing me. Especially Leo and Maxie. Bertrand is a know-it-all. He thinks because he’s sixteen he knows everything." She rolled her eyes clearly offended by the idea that someone could know more than her. "Abuela, that how we all call her because she’s Mexican and would murder us if we call her grandma, is amazing. I mean don’t get me wrong, she's super strict, and as my mom says the woman is never wrong but she’s the best person I know.”
I blinked. I didn’t know a person could talk that much without taking a single breath.
“Do you camp?” She asked as she folded her legs in front of her.
I did before. Before my dad died and my whole life blew up in a million pieces. Not that I would explain any of that to the chatty girl, so I just nodded again.
“Great! It’s getting warmer and Leo wants to go to a new camping site next weekend. Don’t tell him I said this but he’s like the worst camper ever. I have to double-check everything he does but I don’t tell him anymore because my mom said it wasn’t nice.”
I wondered how could someone carry a whole conversation by herself. I hadn’t pronounced a single word since the girl had shown up.
“I want to be your friend but I can see we’re about to have our first fight.” She told me in a teasing tone. “You’re wearing a Liverpool t-shirt. We worship Barcelona in this house. Well, Abuela, Leo and I do. The others couldn’t care less about soccer.”
I looked at the shirt she was wearing. It read "If they don't have soccer in heaven, I'm not going."
She noticed I was looking at her shirt and beamed. "Abue said my shirt was disrespectful to God but mom thought that was dumb and bought it for me anyway."
"Do you like soccer?" I finally asked.
“Like it? I love it! Did abuela saw your shirt? She hates European teams. She thinks Tigres is the best.”
“Tirgues?”
She laughed, and the sound of it did something weird to my stomach. “Tigres. It’s a Mexican team. She goes crazy when they play.”
“What team you like?”
“Barcelona, obviously.”
“Liverpool made it to the finals of the last Champion’s league.” I pointed out.
She shrugged. “They lost so it doesn’t count. Do you play?”
“Sometimes.” I tried not to show how much I loved it. It was something else my dad and I shared that had stopped when he died.
“I play too. How old are you?”
“Fourteen.”
“I'm twelve. Well, almost thirteen, my birthday is in May.”
I frowned. “It’s November.”
“I know. I’m almost there.” She beamed. "I'm almost closer to thirteen than twelve anyway."
“Do you always talk this much?”
She laughed and my belly did that weird thing again. “My mom says I was a parrot in another life. I talk more when I’m nervous.”
“You're nervous?” I liked that I could make her nervous but I didn't know why.
She blushed and I liked it too. “A little. What happened to your eye?”
“I got into a fight.”
“Wow. You can’t do that here. Leo is always getting into fights and abuela has to ground him.”
She sure mentioned that Leo guy a lot. “Is Leo your boyfriend?”
“Gross!! Leo’s is like my brother. He, Bertie, and Max live with abuela. We’re a family. You’re family too.”
Fuck that. No matter if the girl was sort of cute. I didn’t have a family. “No, I’m not. I’m not staying.”
“What? Why?”
“Because I don’t belong here.”
“Yes, you do; I swear. Plus, I need someone to coach me, so I can get into the school team next year. Leo promised he would, but he never has time.”
“I suck.”
She shook her head and smiled at me again. “Somehow I don’t think you do.” Then she gave me a conspiratorial look as she pulled out something from her jacket pocket. "You can't tell my mom about this but I took this from her room." It was a white iPod. After scrolling a little through the screen she settled on The Beach Boys. She couldn't possibly know it but they were my dad's favorites. She passed me an earbud and we didn’t talk after that. We just sat together for a while hearing music until we heard our names being called.
“That’s abuela. We should go. She hates to wait. Plus, I'm starving and we're having enchiladas. You'll love them.”
Lexie ran to her house to --as she put it-- 'hide the evidence.' I went back to her grandma's house and stepped into the kitchen.
“Drake, pass me the salt, mijo. It’s next to you on the counter,” Angelica said as she kept on turning the sauce she was making. “You like enchiladas?”
What was with all these women asking me what I liked to eat? I leaned against the black counter while she opened the lid of another steaming pot on the stove, and stirred its contents with a long wooden spoon. I shrugged. I didn’t know if I liked it. But it smelled better than anything I ever tasted, so it couldn’t be all that bad. My mouth started watering, and my stomach growled. Come to think of it, it had been a while since I’d last eaten.
“You know, I know you feel weird now. And you don’t like to talk a lot. Soon, you’ll learn that this is a safe place. We aren’t gonna judge a single word that comes out of your mouth or any of them that don’t.”
I suddenly felt like I owed her a verbal response in exchange for her kindness. Fake or not. Besides, I just knew the chatty girl I’ve just met wouldn’t be happy if I was rude to her grandmother. “Yes, ma’am.”
She smiled at my verbal response. “But just so you know. We do have a few rules in this house.”
Here it comes. The catch. Angelica put the lid back on the pot and leaned over the counter on her elbows. “You just need to go to school, find a hobby or sport you like, don't swear, respect the curfew and keep your room clean. Every child in this house has chores but it’s too soon to figure out yours. For now, you only have to get to know us.” Her eyes crinkled as she smiled at me. At that moment the timer of the oven rang and Angelica took a huge dish out of it. She covered it with more steamy, tomato sauce, sour cream, and grated cheese and put it back in the oven. At least, I might get some good food while I figured what I was going to do next. Because no matter how nice and kind everybody acted, I was not going back to school. I used to be good at it without much effort; I had friends and a soccer team. But I had missed a lot in the last two years. I felt dumb and stupid.
Suddenly, the front door slammed open. “Cuidado muchachos! Be careful with that door against the wall, or you’re going be spackling and repainting this entire house,” Angelica yelled out. Three teenage boys filed into the house, followed by just as many apologies.
“Sorry.” “Oops.” “It was Max’s fault.” “
“These are Maxwell, Leo and Bertie,” Angelica introduced. “Boys, this is Drake.”
“Hi, man!” The blond one said with a shit-eating grin. “Abuela, Lena, you guys didn’t tell me you were buying a Liverpool fan.”
“Adoption is not a purchase of people, Leo” the oldest one --Bertrand, corrected.
“Yeah, cause if it was, then you got Leo from the clearance rack,” the youngest one joked, checking his reflection in the hallway mirror, smoothing back an out-of-place dark hair. “I hope you kept your receipt.”
“Fuck, off,” the blond one replied with a middle finger.
“Watch it, Leo,” Angelica warned. “Boys.”
Max kissed her on the cheek. “Sorry, abue.” She forgave him with a smile, then swatted at his hand with her spoon when he dipped his finger into the pot.
“I’m glad you’re here, bro” Leo said. I stood, and he gave me a fist bump without touching my hand.
“Me too! And we’re going to be roomies,” the kid named Max said. He grabbed a stack of plates from the counter. I followed him over to the long dining room table and helped set the table for seven people.
2020
I lost count of how many days I’ve been in the hole. It wasn’t my first time in here and it sure as hell it wouldn’t be the last. It was always the same routine. Days and nights blended into one making it impossible to know what day it was or how much time I had been in here.
I have been in jail for six excrutiating years. I had known from the day I heard the sentencing that the only way I was going to survive was if I didn’t think about her. It was the hardest thing I had to do but after a while, my routine was running smoothly and when my head hit the pillow at night, I was too fucking exhausted. She haunted my dreams and my nightmares, but I didn’t think of her beyond that. Except for the hole. Locked up there, cold, hungry, and utterly alone her face, my memories of her were the only thing that helped me go on.
I replayed in my head our first encounter, our first kiss, our first time. I obsessed about her full lips, her expressive brown eyes, her gorgeous smile. I could spend hours picturing every single corner of her soft delicate curves. Sometimes, I wondered if --maybe, I didn’t start fights in the hope of being sent to the hole where I could spend my time fantasizing about her. It was pure torture, but I couldn’t help myself. The memories I had of her, of us and our short time together were the only light in my otherwise bleak life.
She still wrote me every week but I hadn’t open any single one of her letters. I didn’t want to know if she was moving on with her life or worst if she was waiting for me. Because that was what Lexie didn’t understand. Even if nothing happened and I was released in one year, I would never be that boy again. The Drake Walker she had known and loved was dead and she wasn’t going to like the man that had been left in his place. I was damn sure about that.
