I just finished: Inscryption!
I was a big fan of Daniel Mullins other games, Pony Island and The Hex - both fascinating games in their own right, and I'm happy that Inscryption seemed to finally get widespread recognition the others didn't, it really deserves it. When I first heard that this was coming out, I was a little tired of playing deck building games - recently I've got back into playing them again, though I think this game could have hooked me even through my apprehension.
The game is an excellent deck builder, and unlike some others it doesn't feel overwhelming at all - with some games you can become lost with all the options, that you must be missing some amazing combos or strategy. I had fun discovering all the different card interactions, which of course are designed for the player to work out, but it manages to make you feel good nonetheless.
Aside from deck building, the game is of course largely focused on a meta narrative that explores differing attitudes toward game design. The game begins with you playing for your life against a mysterious figure in the dark of a cabin, of whom you can only see the glint of their eyes. The stranger narrates your adventure through the wilds and the struggles you endure, the game play at this point focused around sacrifice of your creatures, painting a visceral picture of your journey of survival.
Once you manage to escape this stranger, the game ends up in a very simple setting, similar to something like the Pokemon TCG for the Game Boy, now allowing you to build a deck from a set of cards you collect before each match. Once you through all the hoops that have been set for you, another character takes over control of the game, a robot.
Unlike the stranger, the robot seems to struggle greatly at creating any kind of compelling narrative, focusing purely on the mechanics of their game. While the mechanics are generally more balanced, this section of the game is purposefully more hollow to show the difference in style.
crab
I have largely ignored a large part of the narrative of the game, the fmv videos of a character in the real world playing this game. While I wouldn't say i dislike this part of the game, I do find it less interesting. Daniel Mullins has and ARG which includes all of their games, and honestly it's something I've found compelling but also a little childish and simplistic. The good thing is whether you like it or not, it's largely optional, and it doesn't get in the way of a great game.
Significance: 2/3
Grade: A

I wonder how many people realize that the best way to support the cartoons they love is toā¦ buy the merch?
The official merch.
It really is that simple. Itās why Transformers and My Little Pony keep coming back. Itās why there are so many Barbie movies. Why Kevin Smithās Masters of the Universe failed but the 3D animated He-Man is thriving. Why Pokemon is the biggest money making franchise of all time and will never not have an anime. Why Bluey, Cocomelon, and other little kid cartoons are having money poured into them while other studios are being cut off ruthlessly. Itās why Frozen and Cars got fucking sequels while The Owl House was reduced to 3 specials for its final season.
Because, for those IPs, people buy the official merch.
Parents arenāt going on Etsy to get a hand-crochet plush of Bluey or Bingo. Theyāre picking one up at Target. The Transformers collector isnāt buying small batch stickers from a fanartist on redbubble, heās buying an official hasbro figure at the comic store and his kids a sticker sheet at Walmart. Hand painted cards are never going to replace the Pokemon TCG.
And thatās where companies make their animation budget back. Not through advertisements. Not through subscriptions. Merch.
And it doesnāt matter if the fan stuff is better made. It doesnāt matter if you can commission exactly what you want. As much as it sucks, fan merch is copyright infringement, and the animation companies donāt see a single red cent from it.
You can sign all the petitions you want. You can stream every single one of these cartoons in the background on a repeat to falsify watch numbers, you can post all the fanart and fanfiction you want in an active fandom of millions and it wonāt save your show. So long as the cartoon isnāt justifying the expense of animation from official merchandise sales, the companies have no incentive to keep making them.
Iām not saying those actions never work. But the surest way to make sure these companies stay invested in your favorite cartoon, is to make sure their investment in your favorite cartoon pays off.
Edit: itās in a reblog, but Iām adding it here too.
Iām aware that these companies arenāt making that much merchandise for some of these shows. Definitely not at the level a bunch of shows from my childhood were. In which case we need to be asking three important questions:
Why do they not think these shows are marketable?
Why are they making these shows if they donāt think they are marketable?
How do we let them know we will buy official merch in a quantity that will get their attention?
Money talks to these corporations, so why are they cutting off their ears?
#animation#cartoons#merch#it sucks#I get not wanting to support Disney and the like#believe me I get it#but itās a fact of reality#that the shows that sell official merch stay around#and the ones that donāt#regardless of popularity#tend to get cancelled or reduced seasons#because animation is expensive#itās profit model is different from live action shows#itās all about the merch#the owl house#toh season 3#rise of the tmnt#rottmnt#infinity train#I honestly don't watch enough tv to know what other shows are currently being culled#but this is a trend I've noticed#because I do know what's sold in the toy section of Target#(nieces and nephews y'know)#and kids cartoons I've never heard of fill the aisles#but the shows I see trend on Tumblr rarely even have one item on the shelf

āāā Ā BASICS!Ā
NAME!Ā Ā Tails PRONOUNS!Ā Ā Ā She/Her ZODIAC SIGN!Ā Ā Ā Cancer TAKEN OR SINGLE!Ā Ā Taken
āāā Ā THREE Ā FACTS!Ā
1!Ā Ā Ā Iām mostly self-taught as an artist, though I have taken a fair number of classes through High School and College considering my enjoyment of it. Though honestly since my drive tends to wax and wane I have not been able to really commit myself to actually be able to make something of it.
2!Ā Ā Ā Ā I love dabbling in different trading card games, even if I donāt find myself buying any cards outside of just a starter deck. I do seriously play the Pokemon TCG and have expended a lot of money into that. Iāve been taking quite a bit of interest into Exodus lately, but I also know how to play and have decks for Cardfight Vanguard, Magic, Force of Will, Final Fantasy TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh, weiss schwarz, My little pony TCG, and even a bit of the Megaman NT Warrior TCG.
3!Ā Ā Ā I actually happen to play the Euphonium, though in all honestly Iām really out of practice and havenāt really had any sort of thing to play it for in a long time.
āāā Ā EXPERIENCE!Ā
PLATFORMS USED!Ā Ā Ā Right now about 50% of my RP Experience is through tumblr, with about 35% being through Google Docs and the last 15% being Skype/Discord
āāā Ā MUSE Ā PREFERENCE!Ā
GENDER!Ā Ā Ā I donāt know why but I tend to find myself far more frequently RPing Male characters than any others.
LEAST FAVOURITE FACE(S)!Ā Ā Ā Are we talking about Faceclaims? Honestly Iām not super picky, though I tend to pick a lot of mine off of things that I know as well. Soo, I donāt think I have a least favourite, though sometimes I do try to pick ones that I donāt really see people use or are around all that often.
MULTI OR SINGLE!Ā Ā Ā Are we talking about muse or ship? While this blog is a single muse, with just a few side NPCs for certain verses, I have no problems with multi-muse blogs since I run a few sideblogs like that myself. As for ship, I tend to run multiship since I donāt want to lock my options at times, but some muses are very difficult to win over.
FLUFF / ANGST / SMUT! ā”Ā I really enjoy Angst a lot, and want to be able to write it more. Fluff things are fun still at times too. As for smut, sorry but I wonāt write it.
PLOT / MEMES!Ā Ā Ā Ā While I do enjoy the odd crack and memes here and there, I tend to want to use them more for a starter if plotting things have not been successful. But honestly I really enjoy and want to do more for large story plots and things that actually would bring about conflicts and character development...and a chance to be able to actually make a nice full story with someone instead of just little things here and there.

1) Yes, I honestly do get a kick out of seeing some brands I enjoy on magic cards. I think the Forgotten Realms set will be fun, and the Godzilla cards had a certain gravitas that made them very cool (despite having never seen any Godzilla media). I'm feeling more and more concerned that Magic is taking a path of design philosophy closer to other contemporary CCGs and TCGs in a bad way, though. Stuff like relying on presumed knowledge about what a 'walker token' is, or what 'mill'ing is meant to be. Magic, in my opinion, should focus on its old design philosophies of not making joke cards for serious print,[1] of having a player be able to pick up any card and know what it does.[2]
2) Either they should either be like the Godzilla cards - a small selection of cards are given new faces and names, but are really the cards underneath - or they should be like the My Little Pony cards - silver border, even if mechanically the card could be put into black border. I never want to see a blackbs border card only exist in relation to an IP,[3] since Magic: The Gathering is a game about its own universe, with its own rules and characters.
[1] Un-sets, yay. Joke cards, or cards with a silly theme that can be played in standard, boo. Magic can already inherently make very silly scenarios, where a squirrel token is leading an army of dragons, or a random goblin has the blessings of gods. When you try to make intentionally silly cards for standard, it undermines that Magic is a serious, extremely well designed, competative and fun game. It's something I love about Magic over other CCGs, that it feels like it wants to lean into the epic fantasy. D&D would not get better if, say, a new clown subclass was added for bard.
[2] With some exceptions. I generally agree that mythics can have reminder text removed to make the card look more elegant, or to fit more text on in order to make it more complex. This is something else I really love about Magic, the continued insistence on having rarer=more complex, not rarer=more powerful. As we stray from the former to the latter, I can't help but feel like Magic is being made less by people passionate about implementing new ideas into the world's greatest card game, and more made by committees of people trying to make as much money from a captive audience as they can.
[3] This makes me sound like a bit of a hypocrite, since I'm genuinely excited for the D&D set. I don't have a clear answer about why I find that ok, but I'll try and explain my thinking. I am concerned that Adventures in the Forgotten Realms (AFR) is going to have the problem that Magic owes something to D&D upon its release. In D&D, Fireball must be viable as a spell basically because of tradition, and I'm worried that the design team for AFR has recieved a memo saying "Make sure Fireball is a card and sees play in standard". I can easily see a future where AFR comes out, Fireball is a mythic red boardwipe and UR or WUR control dominates standard, eventually resulting in Fireball being banned. Repeat for Magic Missile, for Hand of Vecna, etc. In fact, while having an entire D&D themed set is cool, I think it would be equally satisfying if it was released as a side product. AFR could easily be a small number of cards that are legal only in vintage and commander. There's no particular reason AFR needs to be a set in standard.
I think I've figured out why I don't mind AFR being an IP set, though. It's because D&D, and the Forgotten Realms setting, obeys Magic's rules. It's a serious, fantasy setting, that in many ways planted the seeds for early mtg. D&D is an appropriate setting where, say, the Walking Dead universe is not. When Magic does zombies, it's powerful necromancers raising armies of the damned, not a deep introspection into the relationships between people in an apocylptic scenario.
Iāve been getting a lot of feedback today. Iād like to ask the following two questions:
1) Would you like to see Magic have cards with other IPs on them, yes or no?
2) If, yes, how would you like us to do them?

So, Iāve been into this series for a little over 12 years at this point, and needless to say, it was literally my childhood. Ā When I turned seven years old, I got my first gaming system -a PlayStation 2- and the first video game I ever owned, Jak 3.
So I fell in love with the game, and I of course sought to own, and play, the whole series (when I was first playing the games, I played the third, fourth, first, and then the second game, in that order). Ā When I was about nine some things went down that caused me, along with my brothers, to have to move out of state to live with our grandparents, thus forcing me to leave my PS2 behind.
So for about eight years I've been waiting to play the games again, and of course, I lost my mind when I heard that they were being ported to the PS4. Ā They're literally the only reason I bought a PS4 to begin with! I've played all the games in the series except for Daxter and The Lost Frontier (the latter of which I'd only found out about last December, thanks to Wikipedia), but weirdly enough I couldnāt remember much of anything about the games after a year or two of not playing them (until I started playing them again in December 2017, of course!).
Currently, Iāve completed the whole trilogy, as well as X. Ā I'm more than open to discuss any of the three, so feel free to chat with me about them!
Sly Cooper Shitposts
Bio:
I got into the Sly series somewhat recently (July 3, 2018).Ā Since then, itās been one of my favorite series, and one of the only series I play.Ā I donāt really have much else to add here, other than this: if youāve never played these games, either play them or watch a letās play (play them if you can though).Ā The entire trilogy can be found on Playstation Now if you have a PS4 and donāt want to hunt down a PS2 and all the games just to play them.
Ratchet & Clank Shitposting
Bio:
Like the Sly games, I got into this series pretty recently (March 26, 2018).Ā At the time I was looking to try out some PS2-era franchises similar to the Jak and Daxter series, which is why I initially tried these games out.Ā My first R&C game I played was the 2016 reboot, and while the humor, characters and all that werenāt the best, it was really fun to play and got me wanting to play the older games.Ā After a couple months or so I played some of the earlier games on PSN (Quest for Booty, Crack in Time, and Into the Nexus) and enjoyed them a LOT more than the reboot overall (mostly CiT though, since although I played QfB I didnāt especially care about it, and I enjoyed the intro for ItN a lot but got bored with it).

Bio:
Iāve known about Hamilton since mid-2016 (thanks to a former friend of mine), but IĀ actually kind of hated it for a while, because of said friend (letās just say that she constantly shoved Hamilton content in my face without properly introducing me to the musical first).
It wasnāt until last December (December 2017) that I finally got interested in the musical.Ā My brother who lives out-of-state was visiting for the holidays, and he literally blasted Alexander Hamilton and Non-Stop in the house several times during his stay.Ā After listening to them a few times I actually really liked them (especially Non-Stop), so when I got some free time (sometime on 1/14/18, since of course I still remember the exact day I got into Hamilton), I decided to listen to the whole musical, and I loved it.
Now pretty much all I listen to is Hamilton.Ā I know Iām going to say this at the end of all these other bios, but seriously, if you want to talk to me about Hamilton, message me.

So to start off, I thought Iād just say that Iāve only ever watched the films, but I haveĀ read a tiny bit of the comics as well.
I got into the franchise in early June last year (2017) when I saw Guardians 2 with a friend, and let me tell you, I really wanted to see it, despite not caring about the series at all. Ā If I didn't care about the series at the time, why did I want to see the movie so badly? Ā Well, let's just say that I only wanted to see it for that sweet, sweet "plot" if you know what I mean. š Ā I also just needed something to distract me at the time, since I had been going through some really difficult stuff around that time (I plan on making a post about what happened at some point, so if I do, then youāll be able to find it here). Ā Once it was over I fell in love with the characters, and the franchise overall, since the second film had not only far exceeded my expectations, but it also helped me cope with the bad stuff that had happened to me not too long before.
Feel free to discuss the series with me, since Iām usually more than happy to talk about it.Ā Thanks in advance!

Favorite Characters (Characters that are crossed out are characters that I donāt like):
Apollo Justice
Bio:
Iāve been into this series for about two... actually, almost three years now! (where has all that time gone?).
My brother actually got me into this series!Ā I watched him play Rise From the Ashes one night (I think it was somewhere around March 2015), and I was kind of interested in trying it out after that (although I kept my mouth shut about wanting to try it, since I was reallyĀ self-conscious about trying new things at the time).
I didnāt get to actually play Ace Attorney until mid-June that year, when my brother one day shoved his 3DS in my hands, telling me to play First Turnabout.Ā After playing through the whole case, I got obsessed, and I was also really excited, since he was going to buy the trilogy for me on our Wii (he didnāt live with us, so he couldnāt let me play the games on his DS).Ā I didnāt officially get into the series until July 2nd that year, which is when I started playing the trilogy on our Wii.
I completed the first game in three days, and I was obsessed with Ace Attorney for about a year and a half after that (I think thatās the longest that any obsession of mine has ever been my,Ā āMain Obsessionā).Ā I also had a huge overblown crush on Phoenix most of that time (which is surprising in hindsight, since I couldnāt care less about him anymore).
Iām now just a casual fan of the series, and Iām down to discuss Spirit of Justice any time (since itās my favorite game in the series), but I donāt really care to discuss the others (not usually, anyways).Ā So anyways, thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my blog!

Iāve been intoĀ PokĆ©mon for as long as I can remember.Ā I know that Iāve been into it for at least 13 years, but I feel like Iāve liked it for much longer.
I didnāt start to reallyĀ obsess over it until the age of 11, after getting Explorers of Sky for my birthday (one of the Mystery Dungeon games).Ā Once Gen. 5 had started, I only got moreĀ intoĀ PokĆ©mon.Ā I mostly collected the cards, but I did also play a lot of Rumble Blast.Ā And let me just say, I was honestly so into the TCG, that it was kind of unhealthy.
I lost interest in the franchise for a little over a year, starting at the age of 13 (thanks to My Little Pony), but once I stopped liking MLP, I just went right back to obsessing over PokĆ©mon, but with a bit less emphasis on the cards, and more on the games (Who am I kidding?Ā I was still immersed in the TCG world at this time!Ā Just, not quiteĀ as much as before).
After about a year of being addicted to PokƩmon (again), I started to become more of a casual fan of the series, turning my interest towards other things (i.e., Ace Attorney and Steven Universe).
It wasnāt until I started playing Sun (a month after it released) that I started obsessing over the franchise (for the third time).Ā I became a casual fan again soon after finishing the game, which was somewhere in early March of 2017.
Currently, Iām just a casual fan of the series (aside from my several characters, who Iāve had around for three years at this point).Ā I canāt really suggest you trying to discussĀ PokĆ©mon with me, since I amĀ just a casual fan nowadays (Unless if you want to know about my characters I mentioned!).Ā Thanks for reading!
