Unpopular/controversial opinion, speaking as a lesbian myself:

While in theory I'm in favour of lesbian headcanons for woman characters who are cishet-coded or who don't have a canon sexuality, I do not like it if the main or only purpose of headcanoning a woman character as a lesbian is to get her out of the way of an M/F or M/M ship. Doubly so if the person who makes such lesbian headcanons is not a lesbian themself.

If you primarily ship an M/F or M/M ship, when you headcanon a woman character who in canon is friends with a man from your OTP as a lesbian, but you barely talk about or create content for said woman character other than using her as a prop for your OTP, I strongly suspect that you make her lesbian in your headcanon so she won't interfere with your OTP, and you don’t really care about her character.

And things like this reminds me of why I really hate shipping fandoms sometimes.
