Put them together for comparison. I sure love playing paladins and priests, they can fit so much guilt and heresy!
Imagine a world in which you believe the light itself talks to you, urging you to commit unspeakable atrocities. Would your faith not tremble at the stark realization that the light remained silent while your comrades were driven to the brink of madness by the dreadlord masquerading as one of its most devoted paladins? Or at the unsettling possibility that the light may have never spoken to you at all? You took an oath to eradicate the undead, and now you find yourself fulfilling that vow by slaying those who were once your brothers in arms, now risen from death by the dark magic of the lich king. What hurts you more: the shame of betrayal or the gnawing awareness that you forsook the light's virtues when they no longer aligned with your desires?
Imagine being a priest of the church of the holy light, a healer of both body and soul. No matter what you do, it's never enough. You promise your flock the light’s protection, yet it it does nothing while they die. In desperation, you tap more and more into the dangerous realm of shadows, convinced that only through embracing monstrosity can you hope to vanquish evil once and for all. You bear the weight of guilt for unleashing a formidable void entity upon the world, yet in truth, the only true threat lies within you. There was never an external entity; rather, it was a fragment of your own shattered mind, fractured by haunting whispers and visions of both tragedy and triumph. You perceive yourself as unworthy of the light’s grace, yet it still responds to your pleas, never tearing you asunder. The light has not forsaken you; it is you who turned your back on it first.
