‘What We’ is a masterpiece I will never shut up about

I love that it was ALL Richonne, no one else, no distractions. Just them, sorting out their shit. I love that Michonne refuses to give up on him, because even though he’s hurting her, she can see that the man she loves is still in there somewhere. And Rick, for all his protesting, he can’t let her go.

And my God, to have it be CARL that brings them back together??? Rick loves his family; he wants Judith to be safe, and I honestly think the revelation of RJ just broke him further (he couldn’t ask about him to begin with because it hurts). He has missed too much, and he truly plans to miss the rest of their lives too. But Michonne keeps talking about them because HER Rick that she knew eight years ago would do anything for his children. But the genius of this episode is what really brings them back together, what brings Rick back to himself again; and that’s CARL. Not Judith, not RJ; Carl. And isn’t that what Carl has always done? Carl brought Michonne back from insanity when she first joined the group. Carl brought Rick back to a place of mercy and sanity during the Saviour war. And Carl has brought Rick back to himself, to his wife, to his two remaining children. I honestly started bawling when Michonne handed him that phone, it was such a beautiful moment.

HONESTLY if this show doesn’t end with them reuniting with their children I’ll be physically ill.

And for real, Danai deserves all the awards. Andy too (his performance was impeccable), but Danai wrote this shit from the heart, and performed it masterfully. I felt her pain, her anger, her confusion, her frustration, and above all, her LOVE for the stranger in front of her.
