Happy Sammy Sunday!
This was supposed to be a drabble, but it quickly got out of hand. So! Enjoy this Sam & Lucifer ficlet: AU edition (now with dragons!)
Lucifer won’t allow anyone to ride him. The last five who tried were all gravely injured.
Sam is foolish number six, a rider without a dragon, a failure for a failure, and the last chance either of them have before they are cast down. Dragons are intelligent. Sam can’t help but wonder if Lucifer knows that he’s destroying himself.
(Just like he will never know if they gave Lucifer to him to tame because of Dean’s success with the oldest of his clutch, Michael, or because they would rather Sam die by a dragon than…)
Lucifer is the second largest of his clutch, and his wings eclipse the sun when he raises them at Sam’s approach. In the darkness, he’s an terrifying wraith of scarred white scales. Every breath he exhales is enough to threaten Sam’s balance, and his pale hide does little to hide the fire’s heat inside his throat.
If Sam had frozen in fear, he’s sure Lucifer would have burnt him up, his own fate be damned.
Sam forsakes caution. He drags his leather glove off his right hand. Lucifer watches him, neck curved towards Sam and head tilted. His tongue flickers out to taste Sam’s scent, revealing fangs larger than Sam’s arms. Lucifer’s massive foreleg extends, crushing the ground beside Sam as his claws flex into the rock below. Sam doesn’t stop.
He can almost hear Dean yelling at him to put his glove back on. It’s a stupid move, but Sam has a feeling Lucifer will take nothing but a true bond, the old way, to take all of Sam’s mind and give all of his own in return.
It’s going to hurt.
Lucifer’s heartscales are pale pink. This close, Sam can hear his heartbeat. It thumps like the stalking footsteps of a predator, and though each pulse sends tremors course through Sam’s body, he doesn’t run. He turns his palm over, observes the calluses and the wrinkles of his palm and the long-healed cuts that mar his fingers. He doesn’t allow himself to stall another moment, no countdowns in his head or deep breaths. He turns his hand over again and slams his palm into Lucifer’s chest.
Sam screams. He won’t let go.
Lucifer’s mind hits his like a comet, bearing down to see if Sam will break under the weight of him. He is not merciful, but Sam has tried to form bonds with other dragons and never felt anything like him before. For a moment, Sam’s body isn’t his own. Lucifer is behind his senses, taking them in, even the pain his own scorching hide rips through Sam. Lucifer is the one who presses Sam’s hand harder into his heartscales, but Sam- Sam is a towering beast with limbs he’s never felt before, with hungry fire burning through his entire being. Sam feels the rough crags of stone beneath Lucifer, the wind brushing over the thin membranes of his wings, even the leftover taste of blood from his last meal. Sam leans forward towards the small human body that is both Lucifer’s and his own, as Lucifer curls fingers around the heartscales that are both Sam’s and his.
Sam, Lucifer purrs, and the thought isn’t only Sam’s name, but his entire life, every thought he’s ever had, all of his anger and hurt and love laid bare and perused by this creature. Sam, in turn, is given Lucifer’s loss, his betrayal, his insurmountable pride.
Winchester, Lucifer continues with amused familiarity a moment later, when their minds have gone from two to one to two again, and Sam is left gasping and clutching his burnt hand. It’ll scar.
Lucifer bows to Sam as Sam puts his glove back on. The smooth leather still drags painfully over his injury. He takes a deep breath, grips Lucifer’s scales as firmly as he can, and hauls himself into the cradle between Lucifer’s spines. It’s only right if they’re doing this the old way that Sam’s first flight with Lucifer should be bareback. He can feel Lucifer’s muscles flex beneath his scales, every breath and heartbeat powerful enough to rock Sam on his seat. Lucifer stands tall again, head turned to the sky. He whips his tail with delight, and Sam feels it spread through his own mind, bright and overwhelming. He tempers it with focus, digging his heels into Lucifer’s sides, where his shoulders meet his wings. One wrong move and Lucifer could fling him off, but even thinking that leads to a possessive reassurance from his dragon that it won’t happen. Sam is Lucifer’s now, and Lucifer won’t allow anything to take Sam from him.
He spreads his wings. Sam braces for the running start most dragons need to take flight, but Lucifer sweeps them into the air with only a few thunderous flaps. The ground spirals below them dizzyingly as they take to the sky.

Alright. Now comes the doozy.
1.      What’s your preferred writing and reading genre?
Fantasy for both, though I like to read a lot of different genres
2.      What’s your favorite thing about your least favorite character?
Least favorite is tough. The character I’ve been having the hardest time writing recently is General Zhai from The God-Dragon’s Wife, mainly because I haven’t solidified her motivations yet, but if there’s one thing I know about her, it’s that she takes no shit. Which is very difficult for me, because she isn’t taking my shit either.
3.      What’s your least favorite thing about your favorite character?
Again with the favorites! Teconia is fun to write, but I feel bad about making bad things happen to her and making her sad. She gets sad a lot and then I feel guilty. Stop doing that.
4.      Which of your characters do you feel most indifferent towards? Why?
Right now, it’s Park. I don’t think we’d be friends if he was a real person (robot?) because our values are so misaligned, but he’s not a bad guy.
5.      Which of your projects means the most to you and why?
Firesoul, no doubt. It’s been an idea I’ve had since I first started writing, and the fact that I’ve been continuing to write it after all these years is a huge deal for me (i.e. a person who comes up with ideas and then abandons them forever)
6.      Is there a theme that can be found in all of your projects? Was it intentional or dd you realize after the event?
Usually there’s a theme of overcoming – whether that’s overcoming self, overcoming oppression, or overcoming adversity. I don’t do it intentionally, but I think it’s definitely informed by experiences in my life, so it would feel odd to not have it.
7.      What’s your favorite book to read? Does it have any similarities to your any of your writing projects?
The Inheritance Cycle is my favorite book series of all time and it absolutely informs my writing style. I’ve read the first book, Eragon, eight times, and seven of those times was before I turned 16. I’d be shocked if it didn’t.
8.      What have you learnt while writing that you hope everyone knows?
That I can write whatever I want, and someone will like it, even if it’s not the someone I thought would like it.
9.      What’s your biggest strength in writing?
Description, for sure.
10.  What about your weakness?
Too much description.
Seriously, though, it’s plot structure. I suck at that, and I’m awful at outlines.
11.  How many questions do you answer on character profile sheets when creating new characters?
I try to shoot for all of the ones that apply! But I don’t do a lot of character sheets so…
12.  What do you love most about your writing?
I love my worlds and settings. I pour blood, sweat, and tears into them, and I think it really pays off.
13.  What’s your favorite type of character to write?
Smart dumbasses, people who Can’t Handle Feelings, and people who Have Too Much Feelings. I have no middle ground.
14.  What inspires you to write?
Life. That’s probably the most cliché answer on the planet, but I’m very informed by the things I believe and the experiences I have. Even my horror pieces (short as they are) come from places of feeling helpless in my own life, struggling with an undiagnosed anxiety and panic disorder for most of my life.
15.  If you could talk to your protagonist, what advice would you give them?
I would gently hold Park’s metal robot face in my hands and tell him to Stop Taking All Responsibility For Everything. Good God. It’s not all about you, all the time.
I would tell Xinya that it’s okay to feel emotions sometimes. Yes, even that one.
I would tell Teconia that trusting people isn’t always a good thing.
I would tell Hayden that he is capable, no matter what he tells himself.
16.  If you had to do an escape room with one of your characters, who would you choose and why?
Park is a robot and therefore would be very logical about all possible solutions. This could either be a great thing or a terrible thing, but I’ll take my chances with the guy with a computer for a brain.
17.  How did you come up with the plot for your current wip(s)?
The God-Dragon’s Wife is inspired by a (perhaps not astoundingly written) fanfiction I read and said “Psh. I can do that.” That, and my deep held desire to marry a dragon.
Firesoul came to me at an audition for a role in my dance company’s annual Christmas show. I heard this epic, haunting music, and had a vision, essentially, of a scene from the book. Teconia herself is literally a D&D character that I liked so much I gave her a book.
Out of the Park is inspired from way back when I used to regularly play Overwatch, and my main, Zenyatta, had a skin release that was a baseball team. The rest is history/
Dragon Raising actually started as a novel that I never did anything with, because something always felt off about the delivery. When I took a comic writing class in college, everything clicked at once.
18.  What’s one line/paragraph you’ve written recently that you’re proud of?
This is from a submission for a prompt month in a fandom I’m in:
Yugi didn’t believe in ghosts. It was fun to think about, sure, but he’d never seen any “real” evidence to support the idea. His friend Ryou claimed otherwise, but they’d long since learned to agree to disagree on the subject. Of course, they were both partial to a good scare – his second favorite genre for anything was horror – and they could talk about the coolest ghost stories they’d heard for hours. Still, he had never latched on to the idea of the “soul persisting after death.” It was ridiculous, for a lot of reasons. The idea of a ghost in his house – in anyone’s house – was almost laughable.
But he didn’t have a lot of other ideas to explain this.
19.  Do you ever draw concept art for your writing?
I can’t draw, but if someone made me art of my WIPs, I would die LITERALLY for them.
20.  What do you like most about one of your protagonists and what do you like least about them?
Xinya is a powerful woman. She’s capable and smart and will kick your ass in chess. But she’s so emotionally constipated it’s actually painful for me.
Teconia is kind, strong even if she doesn’t know it yet, and loyal to her friends and family. But she refuses to use her strength until it’s too late, which is frustrating for a lot of reasons.
Park is a dumbass. This is both the reason I love and hate him.
Hayden can do remarkable things, but he never gives himself credit for them.
21.  What’s the setting of your current wip(s) and why did you choose it?
TGDW takes place in a fantasy Imperial China, which I chose because I am so sick of Fantasy Medieval Europe #4564
Firesoul takes place in Fantasy Medieval Europe #a billion, but I’m not romanticizing it. Teconia is the poorest of the poor, a racial minority, and has to keep her mage identity a secret to avoid persecution. You see exactly what that’s like in Ethallia for the average citizen, and it’s not pretty, unlike most fantasy settings where Everyone Is Good Except Our Evil King, Who Is Evil For Vague Magic Reasons.
OOTP is my personal idealized Future America, which means there is So Much Socialism. Everywhere.
Dragon Raising takes place in modern day Chicago, which I chose because wouldn’t it be hilarious if someone had to raise dragons in the middle of Chicago?
22.  What are some of your strengths that make you a good writer?
I pride myself on my description and world building, as I’m sure people have picked up by now, but I’ve also been told I’m good at writing character interactions. I’ll take it!
23.  Do you listen to music/have playlists to get you writing?
I’m one of those people who can’t write without music to block out the sounds of the real world. I don’t have any specific playlists for writing – I usually just shuffle my whole library.
24.  Who is the character that is least like you and why?
Personality wise, it’s between Park and Yu-Qi who are the least like me.
Park thinks he has to be the one to change the world – him and him alone – which is just. Come on man. Dismount from your high horse.
Yu-Qi is closer to being the opposite of me because of our similarities, ironically enough. She’s obsessive, possessive, and in a true dragon fashion, she hoards and hoards and hoards. These are qualities I share, but desperately afraid of.
25.  What is the maximum word count you are hoping for your project(s)?
Oh, this is a good question. I’ve never sat down and thought it out specifically, but I think a good novel length is 80k-200k words, so I’ll shoot for that!
26.  Do you write better in the day time or at night?
Night owl. I blame it on being born at 1:30am
27.  What are your OC(s) zodiac signs?
Well, considering only two of them exist in our star system, I’ll just guess!
Xinya: Virgo
Teconia: Pisces
Park: Scorpio
Hayden: Libra
28.  Where do you fall on the beige to purple prose spectrum?
My prose is indigo, man. I am so close to purple it’s unreal.
29.  Are you well read in the genre you hope to go into?
Absolutely! I’ve been reading fantasy since I was in first grade.
30.  What are your goals for your writing career?
I want to open people’s minds and make them think about stuff that they might not have otherwise thought about. And entertain them, of course.
31.  How comfortable are you with critical feedback?
PLEASE give me critical feedback, I’m begging you. My life has been plagued by minimal to no feedback on my writing and it’s so frustrating.
32.  Do you enjoy reading or writing romance?
Reading it: depends. Writing it: yes, but I’ve only just gotten into it!
33.  Do you annotate your books?
Depends on the book. If I’ve read it enough times to quote direct lines, then yes. I’ll never annotate a new book.

Note
1, 2, 10, 12, 17, 23, 27, 31
Wow! Thank you so much for the ask, lovely!! ^.^
This got really long, so I’ll leave everything below the cut.
Ask My Top Three
1. Top 3 Heroes/Protagonists
- Yona from Yona of the Dawn
A princess all her life who witnessed her father being killed by her lover and then forced out of her own kingdom, but still manages to be a bad-ass heroine despite everything.
- Piper Halliwell from Charmed
Her older sister always took charge and had all the answers, so when she died, not only did Piper lose someone very dear for her, but she also had to take on an entirely new role. Not only that, but she took on the Elders and fought for her illegal love/marriage to her white-lighter (and won!). Down to earth and a power-house to boot.
- Sango from Inuyasha
This girl has been through hell and back, but continues to fight for the sake of her brother’s life. She literally has no other reason to live, and was even willing at one point to kill Kohaku and then herself, just so they could both stop suffering. Thankfully she had Inuyasha and the gang to support her, and having her as a comrade is definitely an asset.
2. Top 3 Villains/Antagonists
- Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries
Yes, we know he was a bad vampire turned good (but really good all along), but his character development and growth has always been one of my favorites. He willingly allows others to view him as a villain and will gladly play the part of villain if it means protecting those he cares about or giving others a reason to push him away. If Elena or Stephen needed somebody to blame, he was right there fueling their fire. If they needed someone killed or buried, he’d gladly grab a shovel. His bad-boy personality gives him an edge, but he’s really just a lonely teddy bear on the inside.
- Kira (aka Light Yagami) from Death Note
So here’s this guy who has a notebook that can kill anyone he writes down, but Light is a very moral guy. He decides that he will become god of a new world, free from criminals, and will kill anyone he deems bad in the world, thus allowing only those with fit morals to live. The cat and mouse game he and L play in who can find who first is so engaging and the thought that went into the plot is great. Keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end, in my opinion.
- Kikyo from Inuyasha
She has such a tragic backstory and plays such a vital role in the entire plot line. Not only is she the reason Naraku became the half-demon he was, but she plays a major role in Inuyasha’s life, as well as Kagome’s. She remains this aloof undead woman, struggling not only with her feelings of being brought back from the dead, but of forgiveness and revenge. When she first reappears, she’s angry and bitter and wants nothing more than to see Inuyasha dead. And at the end, she gives up her life for another’s. I actually really love her character dynamic.
10. Top 3 Child Characters
- Wendy from Fairy Tail
Can you say character development?? The first time she appears, she trips over air and then gives a shy little greeting without making eye contact. The most recent time she’s appeared, she’s ready to kick a dragon’s ass into the next millennium all in the name of protecting her friends. This little chick is phenomenal and hands down one of my favorites.
- Rin from Inuyasha
Because let’s face it: a little ball of sunshine that is the only one capable of thawing a demon’s heart. I think just about everyone has a soft spot for this cinnamon roll. Besides that, like Kagome, she is a warm-hearted person that has this way of making people open up, helping people to heal (like with Sesshomaru and Kohaku), and has this fearless disposition about her.
- Carl Grimes from The Walking Dead
This kid has seen some shit. He’s just this innocent little 12-year-old in the beginning, and he’s matured so much due to all that he’s witnessed, he’s one of the best defenders and fighters that they have on their little team. He is not the kind of person to back down, and is willing to do anything in order to protect his family. Even though his father tried to protect him from the horrors, he quickly made his dad realize that he was no longer a boy, but a man, and needed to be treated like one.
12. Top 3 Fictional Animals/Pets
- Happy from Fairy Tail
This sassy little cat gives me life. Seriously. We’ve all seen shows with supporting characters that are literally only there for comic relief (and are never, ever funny), but this cat not only has an abundance of comic relief with his sarcastic commentary, but he also serves a purpose. He is Natsu’s buddy and is relied on to keep Natsu out of trouble, as well as be a qualified member of their team.
- Balto from Balto
This stray wolf who nobody wanted goes above and beyond, risking his own life, and traveling miles through a tundra, all to bring medicine back to town and save one little girl he fell in love with (and of course all the other sick kids). He’s a hero in my book.
- Kirara from Inuyasha
Selflessly goes into battle over and over again for the sake of her friends. She’s also the only other family Sango and Kohaku have left, which makes her even more important. Not only is she a great ally in battle, but she’s good to those she cares about (like bringing Kagome home or saving their lives in the nick of time).
17. Top 3 Non-human characters
- Kouga from Inuyasha
Yes, his flirtationship with Kagome can get rather old, but above everything else, he is fiercely loyal. The entirety of his plot in the series is to avenge the deaths of his comrades no matter what, except in the risk of losing the comrades he has left (like when he wanted to Goraishi, but not at the expense of Ginta and Hakkaku’s lives). He also has some humility, believe it or not. When he loses the power of Goraishi and his Sacred Jewel shards, he knows he’s no longer a match for Naraku, and will ultimately slow everyone else down. So instead of holding onto his pride, he steps down and basically says “good luck”. He doesn’t want to get in the way. Of course, his banter/brotp with Inuyasha is pretty great, too.
- Elijah from The Originals
One of the original vampires created, but he’s probably the best of the group. He’s a very moral person, to a fault, and his word is everything. Not only that, but he’s probably the only one whose sane among his siblings, and wants nothing but for them to be a family again. He doesn’t usually let his emotions control him, like Rebecca and Niklaus do. One of my absolute favorites of all time.
- Castiel from Supernatural
This sassy angel whose beyond social inept feeds my soul. I’ve only binge-watched up to season 7, so I’m really hoping he comes back and kicks ass. I need more of him in my life. And his brotp with Dean is beautiful.
23. Top 3 Books
- The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
I’ve talked about it before, so to save space, I’ll simply refer you back to here if you’d like to read up on it :)
- The Eragon series by Christopher Paolini
I’m not usually one for dungeons and dragons kind of fantasy novels, but I thought the movie was decent, but when I told a friend about it, he shut me down. He said the movie was trash and completely ruined the book, so I of course was curious and started reading them. Still haven’t started the last book, but it’s waiting on my bookshelf for me. Wonderful description and dialogue, amazing story weaving, and overall great plot.
- The Divergent series by Veronica Roth
The movies are pretty great, but of course never give as much details as the books. And damn, those books put you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Poor Trish.. My heart absolutely breaks for her. Also, the entire plot line and story is amazingly done, and I really enjoyed the separation into Factions and the revolution. Now that I’m thinking about it, I really want to reread the series!
27. Top 3 Musicals or Plays
- Wicked
I’ve seen this musical several times in two different states. And no matter how many times I see it, when Defying Gravity comes on, I get goosebumps. I’m actually planning on seeing it again this upcoming winter when it’s back in town.
- Book of Mormon
Okay, when I went to see this musical it was by a friend’s request. I had no idea it was by Southpark creators, or really what it was even about. So you can imagine my surprise when the first few lines of the show were derogatory and vulgar. I couldn’t help but laugh hysterically.
- Disenchanted
Summary: Poisoned apples. Glass slippers. Who needs ‘em?! Not Snow White and her posse of disenchanted princesses in the hilarious hit musical that’s anything but Grimm. Forget the princesses you think you know - the original storybook heroines have come back to life to set the record straight. (Love, love, loved it!!)
(P.S. I also plan on seeing Rent and Aladdin in the next few months)
31. Top 3 Heartwarming Moments in Fiction
- The ending of Charmed
After 8 years of constant battling, the Power of Three goes up against one last major evil. The creators were able to bring back most of the major original cast that has made appearances over the years, sending the show off with a family-esque bang. I cried the entire last 10 minutes as I said goodbye to my childhood.
- Rainbow Sakura, the 73rd episode of Fairy Tail in which Lucy has a cold and has to miss out on the Rainbow Blossom festival. It was her first time being able to go, so she’s really disheartened to have to miss it. Luckily, her best friend Natsu is there. He uproots a rainbow blossom tree and ties it to a boat, allowing it to float down the river right outside her window. I absolutely loved that moment.
- That time when Meredith confessed her love for Derek in Grey’s Anatomy
“Pick me. Choose me. Love me.”  ‘Nough said.
Okay, so I’m really sorry this is so long, but I just like to talk about things that make me happy?? Thank you so much for the ask!! ^.^
