"can i talk to you, dear?" reyes warm tone made you smile, you sat up from your deck chair and made some place for the woman. she sat next to you and smiled. she was so kind to you, even though you met a few hours ago, she welcomed you into her family with open arms. "are you enjoying yourself, bella?" the nickname made you chuckle as you nodded, you didn’t know why but next to her you felt like a kid. "don’t be shy!" she laughed, pushing you slightly with her shoulder. "sorry. spain is amazing i really like it." reyes nodded. "great, because it seems like you’re going to be around here often now." she winked at you which made the both of you laugh.

"you know, you’re the first girl carlos brings home." that actually surprised you, carlos always had that don juan image in your mind which made you think he’d have way more exes. "believe it or not but carlito is pretty shy, and before you he always declined the blind dates his father would set him up for." the woman smiled and looked at her son who was fishing with his father a little bit far away from them. "he told me about you way before you two started dating though." "really?" she nodded and took your hand. "it was love at first sight for him." you could feel your cheeks getting hotter and red, you looked up at carlos who was now dancing with a big fish in his hands, he turned around and showed it to you and reyes. "look what i got!" he shouted, you clapped for him while his mom was laughing. "when i see him like this, it reminds me of when he was a little kid, running around and messing with his sisters." you didn’t know what to say so you just squeezed her hand. "you like him a lot, i can tell. if my son has been in love with you for so long, that means that you’re a good person too. so i trust you with him."

hi!! i just wanted to try and clear something up with you bc i really need to know? what are your thoughts on eridan as a whole? bc i love your art and i love all your equius stuff (youve made me rethink him as a character that i initially wrote off, a lot like how i used to do with eridan before i re-read the comic) but the hitler joke in one of your humanstuck doodles really rubbed me the wrong way and i couldnt decipher if it was just supposed to be taken as a write off joke or if it was supposed to be exaggerated. theres a really massive misconception within the fandom that eridan is/would be a neonazi and tbh i cant keep following you if you believe that. he's my favorite character and it just makes me upset to see popular artists in the fandom still not reading further into him beyond the surface level and perpetuating fanon that makes volotile people in the fandom harass ampora fans. nothing against you personally, as i dont know you personally. i just would really like to know your full thoughts on him as a character.

hello! no, i don’t think humanstuck eridan (edison) would genuinely be a neo-nazi. i do think he’s definitely falling down that alt-right pipeline, but he’s not too far gone.

i do think he might actually say things like this, but a lot of what he says he doesn’t really understand or mean. he’s trying to sound smart, or cool, or edgy or whatever, but it’s not really working, and it only makes him look like an asshole. he’s mainly echoing things he’s picked up from his environment, namely the spaces he hangs out in online. in homestuck, every troll is based off of a specific type of internet archetype. (angry screaming guy, leetspeaker, roleplayer, etc.) each of them, at the beginning of act 5, is a parody of different annoying or strange types of people you meet online. this is his.

as for my thoughts on eridan’s character as a whole, as a troll in homestuck, i still don’t think he’s a genuine nazi. i think he’s similar to equius in that, again, he says a lot of things that he doesn’t really fully mean. they’re just ingrained in him due to his highblood upbringing.

i think that something that bears repeating is that all of these characters are 13 years old. i think that hussie did a pretty good job of writing them based on this fact. when you’re 13, you’re pretty much at the peak of insecurity and self-consciousness and desire to seem cool and interesting to others and society as a whole. you’re really just starting to try and explore your identity and establish yourself as your own person. all this considered, you still really don’t know what you’re doing at all when you’re 13. you’re desperate to prove yourself, to seem capable and strong.

i think a lot of the highbloods’ (vriska, equius, gamzee to an extent, eridan) behaviors make sense when you consider their environments and upbringing. they don’t think the awful things they do are actually awful, in fact, this is the behavior that’s expected of them. society’s told them their whole lives that this is the way they’re supposed to act, so they act accordingly. i’m not saying it makes their actions excusable, but i think it makes them make sense, given their circumstances.

sorry if my point started getting away from me at the end there. in conclusion, no, eridan is not a nazi. i think to say so would be a little silly. even the people eridan kills, he doesn’t do so because of their blood color (to my remembrance). he kills them because he perceives them as a direct threat, and because they’re in his way. (and i believe feferi technically attacked him first, right?) the solution he jumps to is violence, because that’s what he’s been accustomed to. it’s the first and easiest thing he can think of.

again, of course this doesn’t excuse his actions; it doesn’t excuse any of their actions, but it does explain them.

Moon phos is probably my all time favorite character to draw 😓

Some panels of moon phos for my reference, Ik the way i draw them doesn’t reflect their attitude in the manga- but i do love their design!!! Especially their moon clothes theyre so pretty the collar and sleeves…. One of my favorite things to draw.

Another part of moon phos is their pearl eye!!!! In the manga phos get their left eye replaced by a camera pearl eye and it glows in the dark and never closes which is the reason whenever i never draw them with both eyes closed…

Hellooooo! I’m working on a clangen blog of my own, so I’m going around asking my favorite clangen blogs some questions. I’m happy to get answers to whichever you feel like answering (or none at all if you don’t feel like it!)

What program and file size do you use?

If you use a font, what font is it?

How far ahead do you recommend playing?

Do you have any advice for layouts?

Do you have any tips for lighting/drawing fur?

Do you have any tips for making cats look more unique?

hi hi! Thank you for the questions 1. Clip Studio Paint, my comic pages' size is 1600x2900 pixels when I'm working on it, but that includes empty space on the sides where my lines can go over the limits when needed

2. "HP Simplified Hans Regular"... I sort of want to hand-write all of my text tbh, but I thought I shouldn't make things too energy-intensive for myself

3. Depends what you want the structure of your story to be like. For me the important part was the setting that was generated for me so the moons going forward & the brisk pace that that gives you have less importance for my story than they would for most Clangen stories, and therefore I didn't go very far in the moons before I started sketching down pages

4. nah, i'm a newbie on that

I think looking for uniqueness itself can be kind of a trap, and i think it's most important your characters are distinct from their surrounding cast of characters than them looking unique when looking at the wider art community. Any kind of design can be recognizable if it makes an impact. I think using patterning especially can be something people might fall back on too easily to make characters distinct. These are the other ways I like to try make a cat character recognizable and interesting (among their cast): - Experiment with different, even subtly different whiskers, ear sizes and shapes, fur texture (sleek, puffy, curly, spiky, flowy etc) and where that fur might be most prominent in each character (one fluffy cat might have a huge puffy chest fur, another long hair cat might have their long coat look more heavy and pulled by gravity, another cat might have the puffiest tail but less in the chest, etc). Also of course the usual, like different eye and nose shapes. - Use color contrast to make the character demand more attention to itself. If a cat has a big white patch on their face when the rest of their body is dark, it immediately brings your attention to their face. I often like to play up and heighten the contrast of a warm-toned body against cool-toned eyes like Whisperingpaw's reddish body against his deep blue eyes, but it works just as well in reverse or with other color contrasts. This can be muddied though if the design is full of highly contrasting small elements in unimportant places of the body which instead can just become confusing to the eye. It's why I don't really like designs from for example Genshin Impact

^ Whisperingpaw, I even made his grey pawpads more cooltoned than usual for some extra contrasting details - Try designing two characters at once instead of one at a time. When you design two at once, especially if they have some connection to each other, you can already start laying out some opposing or just different physical traits to them. If you make a huge cat next to a small cat, both of their sizes are immediately noticeable traits about the cats that you can perceive and build on. If you only drew one huge or one small cat, you might not really even register their size as part of their design because there is nothing to compare it to. Let their relationship & direct comparison be something that contextualizes them and gives them something more than an empty paper to relate to - Continuing on the "let the characters have something to compare to", a character will always look more beautiful if they are surrounded by more bland or even "ugly" characters. A character's intricate patterns will be more noticeable if surrounded by very simple-style characters. Use this to your advantage and let things like beauty or cuteness be character-specific traits instead of something expected of each design. This is just another benefit to having a diverse cast, it doesn't just give representation to less charismatic styles of characters (which already has so much value by itself), it lets the "beautiful" designs be more convincing to the eye.

Okay so I like finding songs of one artist or genre and finding one to dedicate to each ikepri character but I keep struggling trying to come up with ikepri characters connecting to (specifically) Disney love songs. I'm cool with leaving the love songs area but here's what I have so far if anyone wants to suggest songs or changes I'd love to hear it :3

Jin: Strangers like me from Tarzan - because I think the theme of him learning how to love and actually accept himself is kinda connected to the song. Also I just love him sm

Chevalier: Evermore from Beauty and The Beast (liveaction) as much as I hate live action, this is so good. It screams Chev. He knows Emma is always gonna come back and he doesn't know why but it makes him happy 🥺

Clavis: I won't say I'm in love from Hercules. Is it my favorite song? Yes. Is he my favorite character? Yes. But its so 'Emma being totally in love without realizing it and feeling horribly conflicted about her feelings because of her duty' coded. This is her song to him 1000%

Leon: a whole new world from Aladin. Man. Play the first chapter of his story if you don't already see it lmao. Mr. "Take my hand and I'll show you a whole new world/life" sounding ass

Yves: kiss the girl from the little mermaid. Just the sweetest boy, man. Licht, Jin, Leon, and Rio are DESPERATELY trying to make him make the first move.

Licht: Thats How You Know from Enchanted. Idrk enchanted very well and I don't know licht very well but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just silly Yves and nokto trying to get him to make a move

Nokto: a girl worth fighting for from mulan. This is where the "not a love song" problem comes in. I do think that if you take away the actual context you can make a connection between the beginning when all the guys are talking about what they want, that's just him messing with other women, but when things get serious its him realizing he doesn't actually want any of them, and that he has feelings he doesn't truly understand for Emma. Kinda a reach but I've never been one for accuracies in things like this lmao.

Luke: I see the light from tangled. Omg. "All those days, chasing down a daydream. All those years living in a blur. All that time, never truly seeing things the way they were." HIM REALIZING THAT HE SPENT HIS WHOLE LIFE WITH NOTHING BUT REVENGE AND HATRED AND AHHH. HIM CHANGING FOR EMMA. HIS WHOLE LIFE HAS TO CHANGE AND ITS SCARY BUT FOR THE BEST

Rio: so this is love from Cinderella? I really don't know for him tbh

Sariel: ma belle Evangeline from the princess and the frog. Idk it has old lovers vibes and thats what Sariel gives. Maybe it'd fit better for Rio? Idk I'm iffy on this one

Silvio: colors of the wind from pocahontas. Not exactly love but it fits well. Teaching him that value isn't purely monetary.

Keith: another one I really don't know. I love him sm but I really got nothing man. Please recommend something 🙏

Gilbert: once upon a dream from sleeping beauty. HE WANTS HER TO KNOW HIM. HES BEEN DREAMING OF MEETING HER FOR SO LONG. SUCH A 'we might not know each other now but I knew you once in a place so far back in my mind that it escapes me.'

dazai osamu. a name that can make fangirls eyes light up. he was known for his acting, how sly he was on and off camera and that stupid smile of his. you've been in the music game for a while now so you've met him here and there, you quickly realized he's an actor on and off screen so you made your mind up about him quickly. you didn't like him. so that's why you're pissed to hear that you'll be posing as a couple for a few weeks. another stupid publicity stunt pulled by your producer.

"you'll be meeting for coffee tomorrow." your producer spoke, making you roll your eyes and take another drag of your cig. "got it." you murmured. "this is serious (name). you both need to get to know each other. dazai's producer is a good friend of mine. he's too well known as a womanizer, and he needs to settle down for a bit. you both need to convincingly show that you know each other well. so get to know him! it'll be good for you too sweetheart" you huffed a bit and nodded. "okay, I got it. tell him not to be late." you spoke in an annoyed tone as your producer headed out.

the next day, you heard a knock on the door, and after a moment, your producer brought in no other than dazai osamu. "I figured you can have coffee at your place, more comfortable, ya know?" your producer spoke with no care as they headed off. .."I guess," you gritted out. great. not only will you have to talk to him. you have to make coffee, not a hard task, but it annoyed you. dazai didn't seem to mind this whole thing. In fact, he stood there with a smirk. you rolled your eyes. "cmon on in dazai." you spoke in annoyance as you led him to the kitchen. "call me osamu. we'll be dating after all." you rolled your eyes once again, something you seem to be doing more often cause of this. "fine, osamu." you said through gritted teeth as you sat on the counter and started to heat up some coffee. he stood on the side. your producer had given you a list of questions to memorize to get to know him. seems he got the same list because at the same time, you both asked, "what's your favorite color?" you scoffed slightly. "guess you got the same list.. alright, we'll have to look convincing, and this can't look like some hook up, so we'll say we've been dating for.. hmmm, let's say three weeks so far? I'll go to some events with you and you can come to some of my shows. coming up in october, I have a tour so we can stage a break up then. so there we go. you get a relationship so your fans don't think your a man-whore and I guess I get to say I have a boyfriend." you spoke quickly and sternly. you rolled your eyes at the last part. you weren't getting much out of this. dazai's eyes seemed to widen a bit at how simple you wanted to make this. "woah woah woah.. slow down." he walked closer to you till he was standing in front of you. "and what if I actually wanted to get to know you?" ..you were slight caught of guard.. you couldn't help but feel your face heat up. yea no snap out of it. he's just some womanizer and a fake all around. "not a chance."

it's been a few weeks since then. you've gotten used to going in public to get pictures of you guys together, going to his red carpet walks, him being at your shows, pretending to be all sweet in public.. you've honestly grown quite used to him. he actually wasn't as much of a fake as you thought. he could be quite genuine when he wanted to show it. this was one of those times. you were freaked out. dazai was in your backstage room as you smoked a cigarette and tapped your foot fast. it was a big show, a lot of people.. you'd be lying if you said your heart wasn't racing. dazai had stepped behind you as you looked out the balcony smoking the cigarette. you weren't showing all the signs you were nervous, but dazai could hear your foot tapping and the way you bit your bottom lip and how quickly you were blinking. he paid attention. as he stood behind you, he brought his hand to your hips. he snaked his other hand around you to take the cigarette out of your mouth. "this won't help with how you're feeling, you know that, right?" you rolled your eyes. "there's no cameras, so stop touching." you muttered, but you couldn't hide how your face heated up from the touch. instead of replying, he rubbed soft circles in your hip. you leaned into the touch unconsciously. "you're going to do great. you have to know that you're going to be great out there." he whispered against your ear, sending shivers down your spine. you were at a loss of words as his hands moved to your waist and rubbed softly. you felt yourself calm down a bit.. he held you like that for a few minutes, telling you how he knew you were going to do well. until you had to go onstage.

you did indeed do well.. after what felt like all night, you tiredly made your way back to your backstage room and laid down on the bed. after a few minutes, dazai came in and laid on the bed next to you. you turned to him. "...thank you." you whispered to him. "no need to thank me.. that was all you pretty girl.." you felt your face heat up once again. you didn't realize how close his face was to yours until he said that. you reached out and ran your fingers softly over his face. octavinelle trio and heartslabyul duo + grim are like the honorary uncles (jas's favorites are floyd, ace, and grim bc they sometimes enable her with shenanigans)

even though jas has favorite uncles, najma is the favorite favorite. i imagine she's just the cool aunt

if mama yuu is "shrimpy" then jas is a "tiger prawn" (bc rajah)

jas LOVES doing people's hair including her own; would rather do them by hand rather than by magic

jamil showed jas how to breakdance once and it became ingrained in her personality ever since

I just wanna say that your ability to make this whole comic is really amazing. The quality is so consistently high and I have no idea how to do it, especially since you do it by yourself (as far as I know) and for free, with a job on top of it all.

One thing I really liked is in the season 3 finale (I think?) The color of the panels shifted with each character showing up so seamlessly (green for ship, red for jasper, purple for sugilite, teal for adventurine etc.) that's one of my favorite chapters just for that (and the content of the chapter ofc.) I also was surprised by how well you drew the stairs of the moon base. They look super complicated.

sanghyeok entered the cafe, headphones playing his recent favorite music. he sat down at his usual spot, in the corner of the room. that way he always had a view for the whole place.

his routine was always the same: order, busy himself until you come in. you either talk or ignore him and then… right. then what? then sanghyeok kind of blacks out, he can never remember how he got home so late.

therefore, he’s stirring his vanilla latte and counting the navy colored sprinkles on his donut. it clearly wasn’t fresh – and naturally, bought from a store. he abhorred this cafe. the sweets were usually old and hard as a rock and their coffee was bitter, too watery for his liking. actually, he hated coffee.

but yet, somehow, he was always here.

he was always here ordering this awful food and horrendous coffee (hell, even their lemonade tastes like water from washing machine after cleaning it with lemon soap). waiting for you. just to look at him. to chat with him.

to kiss him.

“hyeok!”

his eyes shot up and met yours, scrunched in a smile. he straightened his back and waved at you, signaling you to sit down.

but you came up to him and pressed a soft kiss onto his cheek. due to your close proximity he took a deep breath to enjoy your scent. you always smelled like fresh laundry, almost like his pillows and duvets.

“how are you?” you hummed sweetly, voice far more sugary than the donut he ordered. sitting in front of him, you didn’t wait for his answer.

riwoo opened his eyes, body jolting forward. he fell asleep.

shaking his head, he blinked away the remains of sleep. reattaching the hand from his chin that he used to prop himself, he felt sore. staying too long in the same position again, he looked around.

the cafe was almost empty. a couple of people he could swear he had seen before and some employees.

riwoo looked at his non-touched order, coffee cold and the foam completely dissolved.

with a heavy sigh he packed his belongings and put his earphones in, heading home.

empty streets were soaked with darkness, only occasional street lamps guiding him home. there and here shadows of passing people followed him, some of them morphing into various shapes rather than being human alike.

he finally slipped back home, too tired and devastated to change into pyjamas.

“i ordered. okay, now tell me, where are you taking me tomorrow?” you asked excitedly, sparkles in your eyes.

“tomorrow?” sanghyeok repeated in small voice, scanning your features. he had to blink twice so they sharpened in his eyes.

“yeah! we have our one year anniversary tomorrow! come on, hyeok” you whined, tugging his sleeve. “you told me you have a surprise!”

Concept;

The au is pretty self explanatory!! Nirei wants to help Furin, but because he lacks the same fighting skills as his peers, he feels like a weak link. tbh i haven’t decided exactly how he gets the compass but I’m kinda thinking about including an antique store opening shop in Makochi and using that as the main setting for that specific encounter……

Makochi’s Magical Boy;

Nirei’s magical boy persona was so very much inspired by his theme song “Navigator” and as such, shares the name. This eventually led to some key motifs in both his design and abilities such as the following…

Star Motif!

Numerous stars can be found on Nirei’s costume !! The primary reason for this was based on the idea that sailors used to use stars and constellations to figure out where they were and how to navigate the ocean. also it looked cute lmao

Compass!

The magical trinket that Nirei uses to transform is a compass. The arrow is essentially stuck to only face one side of the dial (ie. The sun or the blue star as shown above). However, if moved to the opposite symbol, Nirei will automatically transform into the corresponding form. For example, if arrow was swapped from the sun to the star, Nirei would change into his costume. If the opposite occurred, he would be changed into regular clothes.

There is one downside to this however!! Anyone can physically mess with the compass. This means that if the arrow were to be moved at all, Nirei would still change forms, regardless if he was the one tampering with it or not.

Notebook Paper Pattern + Pens!

Seen on both his bow and the fabric around his waist, Nirei’s costume dons a pattern replicating notebook paper. Not only is this a reference to the notebook he uses so frequently, it can also be seen as a reference to map making. lil bit of a stretch but you get the idea

On top of this, the over the shoulder belt holds numerous pens of various colors that can be used at Nirei’s disposal. These pens can have various functionality, but that will be further explained later <3

As mentioned and implied by the functions of the compass, Nirei has two main “forms” (though more may or may not be added). The current forms he has are as follows:

Borfurin Form!

Essentially just og nirei. Normal (?) guy !! Just nirei as he usually is <33

Represented by the sun on the compass

Navigator!

Magical boy form!! Represented by blue star on the compass

Powers And Weaknesses;

ngl this is probably one of the more wishy washy parts of this au that may or may not be be altered as time goes on. I didn’t want to make nirei too op but I didn’t want to make him completely defenseless either…… Some of these im fairly confident abt keeping, others may be altered or cut out entirely!!

Magical Energy;

The main tool at Nirei’s disposal. Though it can be used across all forms, it is strongest and easiest to control when presenting as the Navigator. It is incredibly flexible and bends to the imagination of the user, allowing them to use it as a weapon or tool in of itself.

Overuse or large scale use can have physical and/or mental strain on the user. At best, it can cause minor aching and minor headaches. At worst, the user may be bedridden or may even require hospitalization from resulting injuries. On top of this, over complicated or large scale uses of magic can make effects/attacks weaker as the energy is spread far too thin. For example, assume nerei were to use magic for a bow and arrow esc attack. While magic could be used for both the bow and the arrows, if nerei were to create too many arrows at once, the damage that it can do would be significantly weakened.

Pens;

Though they can serve as regular pens, these pens are excellent supports for magic usage. For example, think back to the bow and arrow situation. If the magical energy was only used to create the bow while the pens act as the arrows, the energy would be used upon maintaining just the bow and not numerous objects at once. This creates less of a strain on the user, is easier to maintain and control and also does not sacrifice the strength of the attack itself!! To add onto this, the ink within the pens replenish as Nirei gets adequate rest ^^

Since the pens are physical objects, they can be taken away from nirei. Though he can easily find them in the chance of ever losing one, pens stolen from him may be harder to retrieve as it would require forcibly taking it back from the thief, including any allies or peers that may have snagged one from him.

Doodles;

Doodles in Nirei’s notebook can be turned into real objects using only a fraction of magical energy. For example, nirei can use pure magic to create a weapon, but doing so would require additional energy in order to keep the weapons shape. However, doodling in his notebook to create the weapon would only require the amount of energy needed for the creation; the doodle would be able to maintain the shape of the weapon by itself. This saves magical energy for nirei and reduces the likelihood of straining himself !!

Doodles are a lot more fragile and easier to destroy due to the replacement of magical energy with paper.

This is all the main stuff i have for this au…… can you guys tell that i rlly like nirei
