Have you seen the movie gifted? It never fails to make me cry, Chris does so well in it and so does Makena god that girl knows how to act.

Honestly one of my favourite movies to date, father daughter duos are my fave. Chris acting as a parental figure is so sweet!! And who doesn't love a rough exterior guy who's good with kids.

It always loops me around to thinking about Steve having a kid dropped on him and having to navigate being a father, maybe a one night stand turned baby mama 9 months later who wants nothing to do with a baby.

Steve would be such a good dad too, I know he'd want the best for his kid. He'd have a big freak out initially and struggle but once he gets used to it a bit more he just loves it. He loves his kid and he knew that as soon as he laid eyes on the kid but now he actually has time to sit and just FEEL it. His little baby has his eyes and it makes him want to sit and cry.

One winter soldier saga later, Bucky is back and finds out Steve has a kid, maybe 2 or 3 at this point. Bucky is nervous staying with Steve while he's healing to begin with but with a kid in the house? No way. Steve manages to wrangle him to stay and Bucky and the baby actually form a little bit of a cute connection.

When Steve and Bucky find their romantic side again and Bucky is free from the hydra shit in his head, they really form their own little family. And god the domesticity of it all makes me want to cry and sob and cry. They'd both be such good dads and sooo protective, the best protected kid around I'm sure you can imagine.

I can totally see Steve and Bucky being the type of parents to be anxious messes when their baby starts school and their kid is as confident as ever, not even looking back as they run off to find friends.

Ragggh it just makes me wanna cry.

I haven't seen Gifted (note my tag "watch? party?" lol). But, from the clips/gifs on Tumblr, it seems really sweet and like, yeah, they both do wonderfully in it!

Even though I haven't seen it, it's still wild to me whenever I realize just how old McKenna is now, haha. Like, she's still acting, but most often, because I'm not an avid consumer of movies/TV/series, I come across her in the music scene and like... when did this little girl turn into a teenage punk rock icon? 💀💀

I am so amused by the idea that Steve either continues to have accidental children with one night stands because, one, that's just funny to me, two, how carried away can you get, wouldn't you learn your lesson after one misstep, no matter how much you love your baby, wrap that super dick up, Steven, and, three, not so funny, but I can actually see that happening because if this is canon Steve, why would people stop at trying to steal his blood? Oh, for sure, they're anxiety ridden parents. They both got to therapy ('cause god they need it), and they go to therapy together, and their therapist is constantly, gently reminding them that they shouldn't be so overprotective or helicoptering their kid(s). Like, sure, it's logical for the kid(s) of Captian America and The Winter Soldier, but it's only logical to a certain extent. Their baby needs to be able to have alone time and develop their own independence, too. They're teaching their kid(s) and learning themselves, too.

Crash course into Finnish music.

So you've listened to Käärijä and you're curious about what other kinds of music Finland has to offer? I'm here to help.

First off, learn to use Lyrics Translate. A lot of Finnish song lyrics have been translated there, so you don't have to wonder what the song is about.

TL;DR: Here's a Spotify playlist by Japanese-Finnish comedian Gen Takagi of Finnish music where you can start from. It has some classics like Tiktak and Maija Vilkkumaa, but also newer hits like BESS's Ram pam pam and Benjamin's Hoida mut. It's also very hiphop-leaning which is good because that's one of the genres that I'm not super familiar with.

I also have a playlist of Finnish music that I've collected, but it's mostly my personal favourites. Expect some metal and rock.

I also invite my fellow Finns to add and shamelessly promote their favourite bands on this post. I'm just one person and I only listen to the genres that I like lol. That leaves me huge holes in my genre repertoire.

Also noting that I'm limiting this post to Finnish artists and bands who sing in Finnish. We all know about Nightwish, Darude, Children of Bodom, Poets of the Fall and Sonata Arctica already.

I'd like to recommend the kind of beauty that moves by queenpeletier!

"Green and gold, it glimmers in the sunlight, and he almost wishes he’d found some red jasper instead. Green isn’t really a colour she wears – but it is a colour he likes. It reminds him of the woods, the sunlight through the canopy of leaves. It is warm and calming, and maybe if he can somehow say all of that to her – she’ll learn to love green too.

It’s time, he thinks, to stop bringing her inconsequential things – time to try to give her something as beautiful as what she gave him, so long ago."

Some things we know about our fave duo: (1) Daryl is observant (2) Daryl has a memory like an elephant and (3) both Daryl and Carol aren't great at using their words. They are masters of "show, don't tell" when it comes to affection and that's what this whole fic is about. Basically, if you liked the friendship bracelet scene in S10 you'll like this story.

Collecting things for Carol feels like a very natural way for Daryl to show he cares. He can hide behind practicality, so it's not like his defences are totally down in the beginning. But he's still going out of his way for Carol, like he always does.

queenpeletier always writes beautifully, there's A+ characterization, great use of side characters, and lovely attention to detail. Plus, I'm always a sucker for soft, domestic versions of Caryl - this fic ticks all the boxes for me!

Yes, 4 weeks of daily recs! I just can't believe, it's a small milestone, but a very happy one. Thanks one more time for your support, @notalkingbusiness, I adore your recs. Today's no exception, and it's been a while since I last read this fic so it's a treat for me too! I'm a firm believer that Daryl's main love language is 'acts of service' and our dear author queenpeletier/areyoumarriedriver nailed it completely on one-shot the kind of beauty that moves, posted both on 9Lives and AO3.

Summary: “Ed never let me wear nice things like this,” he hears her as he strides by, intent on looking for some gas and a way the hell out of the traffic snarl they’ve landed themselves in. He thinks it’s a waste of time – but Rick is hell bent on heading to Fort Benning and fuck, it’s not like he has any better place to be.

Her words bother him as he works. They niggle at him for days, weeks, months after they leave that pathetic strip of concrete – the last place they saw that little girl alive. He thinks about it – the drab tans and browns that blend into nothingness that he’s seen her in. He thinks of the smile on her face as she’d pressed that red fabric against her chest and held it there. She’s quiet – pale and colourless since they left the farm. Monthly Fandom Faves: January 2023 (ALOTO Edition)

I want to get back into reccing this year! I previously did themed rec lists, but I'm going to experiment with unthemed recs of a few things I loved reading each month, split into separate posts by fandom. Here are my inaugural ALOTO recs, which are all Jess/Lupe this month. (No one is surprised.) They're also all WIPs, which I promise won't always be the case. I hope you enjoy!

Jess takes a final drag and maybe she performs a little, because she wants to see what’ll happen: maybe she licks her lips before, maybe she leans so the jut of her collarbone stands out underneath her shirt, maybe she makes a point to catch García’s eye when she inhales, when the smoke pulls into her chest, when she hitches her breath to keep it there. Because García is watching, she has Jess pinned with her eyes, and this is probably a goddamn catastrophe of an idea (come on, don’t shit where you eat, McCready) but something about it feels alive to Jess, feels jittery and itchy like the buzz of a radio, like a snakebite under her skin. It feels right when the whole fucking day has felt wrong.

relief is a devastating, atmospheric, and visceral immersion in Jess's mind if she and Lupe were casually sleeping together from the beginning, slotted very precisely into the spaces between canon. It encapsulates everything that I read fanfic for—emotional depth, evocative prose, and nuanced characterization—both for our main duo and for the fic's secondary characters, especially Greta, who add so much richness to Jess's life on the team. Jess retains her fierce protectiveness even amid her uncertainty about where things stand with the magnetic enigma that is Lupe García. I've reread each chapter many times and never fail to notice something new. Also, uh, it's incredibly hot. Trust me.

The reality of Lupe García, her brother, this person who shows her iron shell to the world and yet incomprehensibly and inconceivably shows her softness and delicacy to Jess, whose walk is an echo of Jess’s own and who strides through life like she’s carrying the whole thing on her shoulders, like she’s resigned to her solitude, and yet for some reason allows Jess to see the strain of it, just sometimes—like one day she might let Jess share the load of it.

Note: the first chapter (roughly 6k) was originally posted as a one-shot, so you can still give that a go even if you aren't interested in committing to a long WIP!

Lupe and Jess end up in New York City for the off-season. Most confessions can be made over a good ballgame. New York is the prime spot for those few exceptions that can’t.

In thinking about how to describe this fic, I keep coming back to how Lupe and Jess's relationship ebbs and flows like the tides. Their life together in New York feels very real as the intimacy and domesticity between them grows in fits and starts as they transition from being teammates and housemates to roommates with Only One Bed. This story is a full-body experience to read, and I read it much more slowly than my usual so I can relish absurdcapybara's gorgeous metaphors. They really get Lupe, my beloved, and also address how Lupe's insecurities and guardedness have real consequences for Jess. The 1940s New York setting and all it entails are ever-present in the fic as well.

Lupe didn’t know what lines were left between her and Jess. She didn’t know if they were friends or ‘friends’ or brothers or soulmates or ships passing or cars crashing, and for one wonderful moment, she didn’t care that it was so ridiculously undefined.

A letter does not blush by summerdrive and talaricula

(Jess/Lupe, T, 18k and counting)

In the 1943-1944 off-season, Jess and Lupe settle in New York together. This collection of letters between them and Esti, as well as some of the other Peaches, tells the story of those few months.

The wealth of tiny details tucked into the letters and notes—from Jess's inclusion of detailed weather information such as the dew point in her letters to the use of real newspaper clippings and such from the era—make this an incredibly immersive and entertaining fic. I have so much fun trying to piece together what's going on behind the notes every time this updates. (And I'm ashamed to say I figured out the unfinished hangman game immediately.) Our hermanos' relationship with the delightfully perceptive Esti is a particular bright spot in this fic, especially the contrast between Jess's fatherly generosity and Lupe's hesitance after the events of last season, and the authors nail all the characters' distinctive voices. This is unquestionably one of the most impressive epistolary fics I’ve read.

I'm pretty much happy to write any time, to be fair. I found it more difficult to write after work when I was based in an office environment because I found myself so mentally drained and tired at the end of the day, but since the switch to working from home on a permanent basis (at least for now), I don't really suffer from that anymore.

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

I usually decide based on the prompt/idea. I just sit and think about what it would look like from each perspective, and then decide which I prefer in that moment.

48. Who is your favourite character to write for? Has this changed since you started writing for that fandom?

I am forever biased towards the members of my OTPs, so Anna and Bates, Suki and Eve, Daenerys and Jorah are the ones I spend most time with currently.

But I always have a lot of fun with friendship dynamics as well--Robert and Bates and Mary and Anna particularly when it comes to DA AU, and Stacey and Eve (EE) are my favourite friendship duo ever.

77. Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?

I'm not creative enough to come up with original characters and the likes, and I just want to see all my faves get the happy endings they deserve. It's cathartic for me to write about them getting to live the lives they deserve. It might be boring for some people, but I'm all about the mundane domesticity! <3

multi-chara post: take a prompt and think of it in different locations! he gives you his jacket? why? because you're outside and it's cold, because you're at his game/set/etc. and he thinks it'd be cute that everyone knows you're dating, because you want to sleep and you can use it as a blanket, etc etc.

^ just start naming random places in ur head and see if anything happens—get more specific as u go! house. kitchen. the walk-in pantry. boom: big party scene and person a walks into the pantry at the sight of their favourite snack, caught by person b who's the host. oh that's a good one actually. woah. LOL

and like,, it's so so cool to just.. do an idea that's been done before. remember that if u as a reader will eat up the same prompt/trope over and over again, that u as a writer can feel happy to write it too!! So Many of my own posts have been done before but i think they're still good in their own way ��🏻‍♀️ U writing it rather than someone else means that it'll automatically be special to U.

holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, firsts dance! in the kitchen? at a wedding? is it their first one? are they really bad at it? person a thinks person b is a worker and asks for help and they do! they do Not work at this store though. fogged up glasses person a saving b from an awful looking date / a no show a gets b smth from build a bear with a special recording both going to the movies alone but ending up next to each other. it's a comically bad movie a is asked what their 'type' is and describe b who's listening both cosplaying as a chara part of a duo/relationship, then spotting the other at a con :0 (hurt/)comfort: anxious reader, overworked reader, someone was rude, person a has a nightmare, person a accidentally injures themself and doesn't tell b package left at the wrong door "god the men you put on this earth to hunt and protect are ___" person a, who struggles to initiate physical affection, suddenly initiates physical affection (why? where? are they both flustered?) person a tries slipping a valentine into b's things as a secret, but is caught in the act strangers on an airplane watching the same movie next to each other (bonus: one is re-watching, the other is watching for the first time. the re-watcher pretends they don't know what's going to happen because it's endearing to watch the other) a accidentally reacts to b's ig story or posts the comment they very much did not mean to comment

as someone who is all caught up on both shows - they're both fun 😄

this ask is from three days ago when I talked about how stay by my side (taiwanese show about a boy who can hear ghosts and the guy who gives him a break through touch) had a very fun sixth episode. i wasn't into the show that much but ep.6 gave me some heart-fluttering moments and cute angst that I neither took seriously nor disliked - it was fun for me because of the execution, the fact I don't take anything happening in the show to heart and because the show is short enough so I sensed a resolution was coming very soon 😁

now ive seen episode 7 as well and I can say 6 is definitely my fave. the conflicts are predictable, theres nothing really new but thats what goves you the safe feeling - you dont risk breaking your heart watching it haha. i'd recommend this in case you want a quick sweet watch with "cute silly boy denying his feelings" and "cold rude guy turned passionate suitor". it's the lightest watch i've seen in a while and it's my palette cleanser these days (everything I watch is angsty apparently and the angst supreme™️ trio of loa, of and dr hasn't even reared its ugly head yet lol)

stay with me (the og title of which I find real cute: "gege, don't run") is as far as I know a remake of addicted - a chinese bl that was Very direct in regards to what it's about and therefore got canceled AND banned and the main actors - banned from interacting with each other on tv or at public events for years; I thought swm would be a story set in the same universe or smth but as I watched the first episode I kept getting deja vu until I realised it's the same plot lol

it's about two teens whose dad and mom, respectively, got together - the boys claim to hate each other before they even meet, then fate brings them together without them recognizing each other and shenanigans ensue. it's about found family, finding common ground with parents you can't communicate with, about forgiveness and acceptance. the characters are very lovable <3 the crew is doing their best fighting censorship so it's very clear that the couple are not just bros. they can't, however, do what addicted did so many might prefer the 2016 show. I, personally, was not a fan of the mains in that - wu bi is too possessive for me in this version but his predecessor was Something Else

it's a very standard modern mainland china show. the reason im mentioning this is because of clips on tt and having not seen a cdrama in a while, i had the impression itd be more like a taiwanese or korean bl. the editing, dubbing, bizarrely cut scenes - nothing new in cdrama land. i was wondering if I would recommend it but I think I would, yes. some coincidences and plot points are just so beyond belief that you'd roll your eyes but it's not smth unheard of when it comes to asian dramas haha and I think you'd get so caught up in the angst, domesticity and hunting down hints spread around like easter eggs that you just won't mind the convenient plots (if you would care bout such a thing in the first place)

I'm doing a bad job at promoting this show but I do want more people to see it. the cast is perfect imo (..except for duo duo, I'm sorry but that bby cannot act..her face and aura suit the character though), the sets are all amazing (I like the school, I like su yu's home, I like the shared space later on etc.etc., all decor is very well picked and pleasant to the eye) and the moral of the story is heartwarming, its execution too.

you get passionate hot-headed athletic rich boy who's crazy for his equally smitten furrow-browed genius humble guy - they both value family and each other very much and are willing to do everything for those close to them. it's very endearing and their dynamic is swoonworthy, they're a complete power couple.

(also, spoiler, you get enemies to friends to lovers which is pretty neat)(the spark is there from day 1 tho)

EDIT: i wrote this before the final two episodes were released so disclaimer - POST FINALE SPOILER: if you don't like open endings, esp distressing ones, i don't advise you watch it now - better wait for a secure second season

the performances this ep were definitely some long-time coming moments (DJ is my favorite tswift song of all time so i had been Waiting to drop that one, especially since farkle is no shade my favorite Performer in the series -- when he's bouta drop something, you know its gonna Hit essentially). and zc... can you believe its actually been so long since they were allowed to sing together? it boggles the mind. (and they haven't danced together as a performance since rewrite the stars, speaking of, but we won't talk about that lest it make both of us lose it completely -- but rest assured you're not alone in the ambition warrior verse of still thinking about that performance)

and yes to nigel and vanessa!! getting to explore both of their arcs this season has been very fun, both from the angle of a character we knew already and liked but not quite in depth (and not with all the flaws we come to see as he struggles to adjust) and from a character where we knew perhaps ONLY the flaws (from her feisty interactions in s3) and then got to peel back the layers over the season. they've both had their lows, and it's very meaningful to us that y'all trust us to take the journey and not immediately jump down their throats for being imperfect (basically, thank god no one on twitter -- or x, whatever it is now -- knows about ambition ahahhfsfskdg)

Bond should know better by now. He finds himself looking forward to sleeping in the same bed every night, beside the same person, knowing that he’ll wake up in the same place, with the same arms round him. It’s something that Bond never thought would be in the cards for him. But now he thinks things might be different. Q might be one of the few people in the world who truly understands him, someone he doesn’t have to lie to, someone he can trust in a profession where trust is hard earned and scarce given. Bond isn’t about to get his hopes up too quickly, but he’s not about to shut this down before it starts, either. So he stays when he knows that Q thinks he won’t and there is something about Q’s smile that tells him yes, this is where he’s meant to be.

carol had ‘ feelings ‘ for daryl for a brief moment but they weren’t.. real.  she liked the idea of him / of what he brought / of what he could do for her.  she just lost her husband who had done nothing but hurt her and her daughter and make her feel helpless & weak.  he didn’t care about them,  he never seemed to want them around,  he didn’t make them feel safe,  but daryl had been the opposite of that.  he fought to take care of sophia even though he barely knew her;  he refused to lose her for good even though he continuously risked her life trying to look for her when it wasn’t something he had to do.  carol found comfort in that because after so long of being with a man who didn’t protect her,  this was someone who was willing despite him having no real tie to her.  and obviously,  carol can protect herself,  but she needed someone to show her that it was possible,  that she was allowed to take care of herself  ----  and daryl helped her find that.  

there was a solace in daryl she hadn’t found in anyone else,  and it wasn’t because she had feelings for him  ----  it was an indication that she could find that in someone else.  he was proof that not all men were going to be like ed.  he was proof that there was a chance for her to move on ---- not with him,  but with someone.  and that’s why she flirts with him occasionally or hints at being together (  in the earlier seasons,  at least  )   ----  it’s teasing that she’s finally free to do.  she’s comfortable with him enough to do it.  she doesn’t have feelings for him and she never truly did,  but he was an outlet she had been searching for for a long time and finally got so suddenly and unexpectedly.  she might have thought for a moment that she did want to be with him,  but she eventually realized that it wasn’t like that.  she was learning how to have a true,  close friend,  something she never really had before,  and that person was willing to protect her and her family,  and that mattered to her.  he’s her best friend,  the closest person to her,  the person she trusts most,  and her family.  he has taught her to be stronger,  physically and emotionally,  and that it’s okay to be herself and see that in herself,  and she needed that.

@seungcy x mingyu: lucy is super chaotic whjkhdjksdjn and mingyu is just the type of guy who would be able to handle her level of chaos (which we love obvi). he'd kinda be the peaceful one like idk the otp trope that's like "chaotic w a soft spot" = lucy and the "normal and peace-maker" = mingyu. mingyu's also got a really flirty personality and i just think it'd be really cute how flustered he'd be able to make her <3

@hannietonin x jeonghan: they just make sense. in an ideal world, they’d embody the trope of e2l in a lawyer au bc <3 jeonghana <3 also their personalities just would work well together - jeonghan would “annoy” hana and she’d get brainrot but be a tsundere wbk she likes him and he knows it too. she’s also the only person i could see being able to handle his personality lol hewjfhdjk and his bull <3

@ohoshi x hoshi: not to be cliche and list everyone w their biases but.... IDK i think cora’s just v welcoming of chaos and w her taurus alignments and hoshi’s gemini alignments, they’d work v well together <3  they’d be a chaotic duo but they’d also just be a very fun duo and i love that for them <3 idk it just makes sense :)
