My fav SSR film (* *)….. This film reminds of my childhood days in Bangalore … Durin’ those days, I would roam around small streets out there for playin’ street cricket for hours…. there was a small gamin’ centre near my house run by a vro who used to play his fav Telugu songs ( which eventually became “ my go to “ songs ) in his computer whenever I go to his gamin’ centre ( most of the time I would not go there to play games… I just go to talk with that vro) … I would be roamin’ outside my house without any responsibility & pressure more than half of the day & @ the same time, I would score good academically….. but as the time progressed , in order to score like more than just 85 percent… I felt like more burdened, stressed & pressurised …. I would go to places other than my house & school only durin’ summer holiday (that too due to peer pressure )… I used to go to markets atleast before to buy snacks & stationery….. But online shoppin’ became normal in my house afterwards …. :)

AHHHHH you have no idea how happy i was to see this?? i was pleasantly surprised when i first saw that there was a popular hc in the fandom that james was indian?? its fun but sometimes its just very superficial - he celebrates diwali and throws in one or two hindi words, lol.

my hc:

Honestly the strongest point i have is that he is from telangana lol (warangal bidda if you will)

he listens to telugu music (only knows what his dad listens to tho). it was hard to connect to the telugu popculture (hogwarts doesnt have technology and he's in the U.K. anyway)

James would probably be a chiranjeevi fan (he was very campy and talented!) if he cared. He would crush on sridevi, it's just natural.

He didn't care for cultural festivals, and his parents are Christian, but he devoured Ugadi pachadi. (laddoos and kaja for Christmas?? anyone?? Sirius would be so fascinated with putharekulu and remus' sweet tooth would be happy with all the sweets-his fav is peda!)

I tried to be period friendly (even looked up media in the 70s lmao), but if it's just any era: James would be a hoe for 2000s films. probably loves okkadu if I'm being real.

his cousins in the mainland definitely gave him shit for his accent, and he doesn't care enough to code switch.

if he was a muggle in India, definitely would go to hps for school (very self-indulgent, lmao)

he uses dad and amma. (Nanna feels a little awkward, okay!!!)

saying "abbaaaaa" when things don't go his way, (any chance for an ABBA telugu pun shouldn't be left out, btw) and "cheeee" when disgusted.

he used to tease his parents for their 4 p.m. chai habits and call it unhealthy but would pick it up during the first war. just a reminder of normality in the chaos and would give a moment with loved ones. he finally understood why his parents always had their chai and biscuits out in the garden, at 4 p.m.

his mum would insist on oiling his hair (to somehow manage the messy mop on his head) during holidays. he'd fight back hard but give in when she threatened to do it with magic. (he'd be super relaxed cause of the massaging but will never admit). he misses that later and cries hard into lily's shoulder one day, when she casually rubs his scalp in a way it reminds him of his mother (and how she'd never oil his head now!)

Chittamma, I made an entire google doc about the films I liked (linked in my intro post), you need NOT stop with yours believe me. Because I'm full of love and opinions about telugu cinema. (I feel like S/O Satyamurthy and A... Aa! are the last Trivikram movies I could stomach. I bawled my eyes out in Oh! Baby like Buddy in Manam with DDLJ. I can practically recite Bommarillu, I'm just that talented. Nani's films are mostly good in my eyes and I wish I was in the writer's room for Hi Nanna. Ready and Dookudu are always on my dad's list and mine for comedy.

Yes!! It is. The music director ( thaman) literally sampled a Telugu meme of an old man cursing and used it inthe song. " Kurchini marthabetti de***githe " is what that old guy says , in the song they beeped out the last word . Thaman gave him 10k to this old man for using his voice & meme .

Sreeleela is a phenomenal performer . Her debut was in tollywood and she had a movie release every month in 2023 . How does she balance her studies btw she's a mbbs student and acting.

Love & Mercy - biopic about Brian Wilson from the beach boys, portrayed in a really unique way bouncing between his 20ish year-old self at the height of his career and developing drug-induced psychosis, and his 50+ self meeting the woman who would someday be his wife while still in the clutches of an abusive conservatorship. i've never seen a movie depict either a famous persons life OR a cluster B disorder so well and with such love, mercy, and respect. if you long for better biopics, just watch love and mercy. i wasnt even a beach boys fan and i still watched it. the movie converted me and now pet sounds is like my fav album. oh and paul dano plays young brian

Fight Club - yeah yeah i know this seems like a weird choice but im just obsessed with the lore of fight club, both the book and the film. i think it was really well done and if you actually read it the way its meant to be read its just such a good time. fuck capitalism, fuck consumerism, DID is a bitch. also my main man Eddy Nortz is there so need i say more

A Clockwork Orange - this is another one of those "the book is better but the film still killed it" kind of situations. i just really like the themes and cinematography. sometimes you just want to sit down and watch some good old fashioned ultraviolence with a side of fascist overthrow and government brainwashing. ive yet to find another novel/film to truly dig into what "bad" and "good" really mean and whether forced reform is possible if the persons mind never truly changes. also i stan malcolm macdowell

RRR - right now im really just vibing with it. it ticked all the boxes i love in an action movie and in a drama. not the mention the absolute banger of a soundtrack. the friendship/romance between rambheem is so iconic and i can tell its gonna be one of those films i return to time and time again. if anyone has a link to the telugu dub pls lmk i cry that i can only find it in hindi (the songs r so much better in telugu)

The Princess Bride - arguably just my #1 never-changing favorite movie, but honestly its so ubiquitous it feels weird to give it that title. how can the princess bride be my favorite movie when its just a part of who i am? i know almost every line verbatim. i've seen it more times than i can even count. its a classic. i adore it. but, at the end of the day its not the kind of movie that can move me because it barely even feels like a movie at all. its more like just, a way of life
