Aren’t I supposed to be the one saving you?

Session 35 spoilers.

Suddenly, Nux finds themselves standing in the back of a moving wagon. Lying before them is a young khoravar woman. Almante’s cheeks are red and her skin is slick with sweat, her breathing is slow and difficult. Then, she opens her eyes, turns her head, and fixes her eyes on them. “Nux?” She rasps. Nux kneels beside her, “hey there, um, how you feeling?” She cracks a smile, starts to laugh, but then starts coughing. Nux pats her shoulder as she regathers her breath to respond, “like death.” “I’m sorry about that but can I do anything to help? Is there anything you want me to do?” She turns to look up at the nighttime sky, smile fading, “I’m so tired.” “Well, if you come back with me, you can take a nap later.” She raises her hand, and Nux takes it. For a long moment, she is quiet. “You know I can’t sleep,” she responds with a wry smile. Nux can’t help it, they start laughing. Almante appears less ill.

“Yeah. You know me. I don’t know nothing, but I know you need to come back,” Nux says. “Aren’t I supposed to be the one saving you?” “Pff, that’s old news. Get with the program, old man.” The levity fades, “I tried to take control of the body. I’m walled off, trapped. I can’t do anything.” “Well, now you got me,” Nux says, thinking that if they were able to get in, and if Dagne used to be in control, that means it isn’t hopeless. There is some way to defeat the Bone King and place Dagne back in control.

Almante sits up, then stands, suddenly looking completely healthy. With urgency, Nux drags her by the hand and looks out of the wagon. All the plants are dead and the land is grey. “We gotta get a move on,” Nux says. The two jump from the wagon. As soon as Almante’s feet touch the ground, she is Dagne. They are even in their armor again and have their weapons. In the distance is a castle, standing ominous, pointed. Nux starts running toward it, pulling Dagne along. It’s far away, but the land moves quickly under their feet.
