good news now (if you want to hear one idk keep scrolling): my nonna complained almost everyday about how her surname in her documents being written wrongly bc when her parents arrived from italy the desk people wrote it based on its sound instead of the actual spelling of it.
she passed away and didn't get the chance to write it corretly as she always wanted to. i'm not sure why but i think it was my aunt who never helped her.
but she always wanted to write it the "right" way. she would tell me all the time about that.
today i went to [whatever's the place's name in english] and the guy there said i can legally change the spelling of her surname even if she's dead.
i'm gonna honor my ancestors everyone :D
#yay yay yay#anyway it will take some time as i have to find a lot of documents#i'm gonna change the spelling of my surname as well bc that's what she wanted#i hope she gets happy wherever she is :(#apparently it is common for immigrants to get their names written incorrectly in their new country#which is kinda disrespectful tbh#my character Tadeu himself is not an immigrant but his middle name was mispelled#i guess his mom didn't really paid attention to that when she was registering him when he was born#well anyway i feel happy#now that i'm an adult i can do it for her bc SOMEONE (my stupid aunt) didn't help her#bc it's “stupid” and a “loss of time” for her and nonna couldn't go there alone#it's not stupid. surnames are a way to connect to your ancestors and your culture(s). that's beautiful.#someone's cultural background is a part of their identity and it should be honored
