new poem about living in a gross house I guess
I get out of the shower, just to lock the door and shut off the light.
I prefer it that way,
so I don't have to look at the hair and dirt and grime.
I treat my brain kind of like that too,
hiding in dark rooms for hours on end,
scrolling and watching and staring at a screen
so I don't have to look at the hair and dirt and grime that covers everything,
or the dustbunnies of creativity in the corners, underneath shelves, stomped in to mesh with the molding carpet,
the living areas of my home, my brain, my shower
sitting with the lights turned off
so I don't have to look at the hair and dirt and grime.

as much as i would love a visual adaptation of the locked tomb (aka the perfect-for-me version that exists inside my brain only) i feel At Peace knowing that it simply cannot be adapted. everyone is too gross all the time. it simply wouldnt be widely profitable, and is therefore Free. everyone is entirely too covered-in-blood and puke and other fluids and dirt and grime and dust, constantly, for it to have a Mass Visual Appeal. every character in the locked tomb is just. disgusting all the time. constantly covered in unmentionables and dirt. except maybe coronabeth but i think she just does it in a slightly sexyier way. canaan house is literally rotting inside out with mold. Gideon and Harrow spent 5% of their time in sexy cool face paint, and the other 95% of the time in various stages of having their facepaint smeared around, sweat through, and slough off. dulcinea is spitting phlem and snot and hacking up half a lung every other page. silas seems like he is deeply jaundice with a liver deficency. there are so MANY scenes where every character present just get absolutley splattered with gore and then they just. don't clean up. harrow bleeds out of every orfice and spends at least 20% of the story vomiting all over herself, and another 50% in various stages of undress but like, not in a sexy way, in a covered-in-dust-and-old-blood-and-bone-dust, and ripped up hospital gown, and bags-too-big-for-airplane-carry-on under the eyes from sleep deprivation. ianthe spends 95% of her time on the mithraeum wearing clothing that is deeply ugly in both color and style, and that absolutley does not fit her. i feel Comfortable and Safe knowing that the locked tomb is simply too wonderfully grotesque and beautifully gross and wildly slimy to ever be visually adapted for a mass market audience. it's Free.
#gideon the ninth#the locked tomb#harrow the ninth#tlt#griddlehark#txt#tlt thoughts#listen. i think it is wonderful and disgusting and sexy (psycologically)#but i also think it is SAFE from mass market alterations and sanitization because it is just. too wonderfully gross to be attempted#in the first place#anyway remember that ianthe's bone arm has a gloriously disgusting fat pad in the palm to help her hold a sword#it's gross and it's THERE!!!#and the fuckin. FLESH GLOBE. the blood and spit. the massive amounts of bleeding and spitting#it's all incredibly gross and VERY integral to the story

@gepanzrt said: " we're not having this conversation. "
“Good. Because it’s not a conversation.” Bertholdt leans his weight onto his hands, dirt-caked fingers splayed against the cracked tabletop. The ventilation in the small farmhouse is piss poor. There is dust whirling in the thick, yellow light that filters through the windows. A layer of grime covers everything, rubbed into wood and metal by years of touch. There is an air of defeat to this way of living, of concession and deprivation. Much must be sacrificed. Much must be contended with. There is no room for fragile sensibilities, for picky eaters. And Bertholdt least of all has room for a mouthy gun-toting vagrant who has the gall—
Through the bristles of his dark trimmed beard, the wastelander bears his teeth. He looks half feral himself, fixing Reiner with his dead, milky eye, nestled in a web of nodose scarring. Half his face got shorn to ribbons in the crash, sliced right off his skull. At the time, he didn’t think too highly of the remnants of the soldier that crawled out of the wreck, dragged himself to the nearest doorstep, to collapse at the mercy of a farming girl who’s got too much heart for her own good. Ugly and hostile, Bertholdt has grown to fit the mold that has been fashioned for him. He was taught to nurture rather than destroy, march to some unseen drum and trample everything under his feet. Bertholdt has learned, cruel tutelage though it was. And if he has to teach Reiner, then he will.
He has driven him this far, away from the pen out back, away from the upset growling and chirping at his back. Bertholdt’s heart is still racing, seizing up with adrenaline at the thought of what could have happened if he had been just a minute too late. He sees the slaughter before his inner eye and recoils in horror and excess sorrow. “If I ever see you pointing a gun at him again, I’ll feed you to him. Do you hear me?” The snarl is softer now, cooler, as if the core temperature of a threat can drop along with its volume. Bertholdt leans in.
“You have some nerve, waving your gun around on my property, terrifying my animals. You were sent up here to help me, in case you forgot. And he’s just a child. He’s far less dangerous than you, and probably has more brains.” Bertholdt’s glance falls on the firearm in Reiner’s grip. At least he seems to have a concept of gun safety, but that is not enough to put Bertholdt at ease. “Put that thing away already!”

[FN] Better luck next life.
Jobe had traveled down road - if you could call it that, the sorry dirt path only worn in from poor villagers bringing tithes - the past two days. The light unending drizzle of winter had turned the normally warm and hard ground into soft, squelching mud. Every step left him feeling that the earth itself longed to swallow him whole. Each footfall brought with it grime, slinging onto his trouser's legs. He shivered, pulling his damp cloak tighter to his back. He thoroughly regretted leaving this time of year - though he had little choice in the matter. After telling his Father that he no longer wanted to follow in his trade of piss and hide, spending his life looked down on, living on the edge of town as a Tanner, he had told him to travel south to enlist in the local Lord's army. The fire of adventure had been slowly quenched by how hard life on the road from his home had been. It started raining as soon as the sun had set - he left with a simple pair of clothes, dagger, cloak, and a bag with some coin and food he had scraped together. His bread had molded since last night - no thanks to the rain, and his joints ached from sleeping on the ground.
He sighed, agitated, for no one to hear. "God will provide", he thought, clinging to hope. "If only this damned rain would stop, I could make it to the Inn." His village - while not small - was very poor. There was nothing between it and the major thoroughfares towards the larger keeps of the southern lands. His Father had claimed the village was cursed by the Jews after they had been driven out generations prior. Jobe had taken on many of his features - or lack thereof. A generic looking man, standing just under six feet. Brown eyes, dark brown hair in a bowl cut, and poor black patchy facial hair to match. The only thing noticeable was his overly large ears. By many opinions ugly - but not remarkably so. The only pieces he got from his mother was a sharp tongue, an open mind, and a surprising tolerance to beatings.
After a few hours of unrelenting trudging, it was just past sunset, and there was a small amount of light left. He had finally reached a intersection of roads. He could've wept with relief, seeing the larger road had better drainage. No longer carrying what felt like pounds of mud with each step. He took a moment to reflect upon his surroundings, the dense forest that was surrounding him the past days had cleared up some, and ahead of him southwest lay open plains. Southeast the woods carried on for a short distance before turning to sparsely populated trees, the pines had yet to lose all of their needles, and still provided a good amount of cover to whatever may lie within. A milestone marker at the intersection let him know he was within an hour's walk of the Inn - straight south along the road.
He squatted down to rest, contemplating to walk in the dark or to find a more dry patch of woods to rest in. To find a warm meal and bed for the night, or endure another cold hard rest. He had decided to travel on, and by many accounts a bad decision. Stepping up and trudging on, the harder packed clay road didn't give nearly as much as his previous. Jobe felt reinvigorated, the thoughts of the Inn spurring him beyond normal caution. He had just passed the edge of the forest on his left, when he heard sprinting footsteps behind him.
His first instinct was to turn and look towards the noise, a true sign of his military experience - which is to say none. He got a glance at a fist in his peripherals, and then was hit square in the jaw. He felt himself falling, and the next moment on the ground. He felt mud and grime coating half of his face, and his clothes were soaked. He was laying in a puddle of something. His groggy brain tasted blood in his mouth, and his right ear felt waterlogged. He heard footsteps behind him, and his heart skipped and raced as his brain pieced together what was happening. He went to move his hands to push himself up, and found them tied behind his back.
He squinted an eye open and found himself seeing a campfire some 20 yards away. The mud on his face had blocked the light from his eyelids. The sudden brightness caused him to quickly shut them back, and he wriggled trying to find some footing or ability to move. He felt the binds on his feet equally tight and unforgiving as the ones on his hands. The footsteps behind him stopped and a light chuckle sounded off. "I'd keep still and quiet in your place." Jobe craned his neck as far as he could to try and find the voice, but a foot pressed on his left shoulder, almost pushing him face down into the puddle. "Like I said, still." The voice sounded far from menacing - almost like a teenager trying their best to imitate their parents. Jobe's right nostril was in the water, and he had to breathe through his mouth to avoid sucking up whatever he was laying in. "Let me go! Take my money! I have no-!" His shouts, interrupted by being pressed the rest of the way down. "I said quiet, too!" The not-yet-man had replied with a hiss. After a few moments of struggling, he let off enough pressure to allow Jobe breathing room. "Now, I already saw you have nothing else. Your money wasn't enough. But your body might be."
Jobe's mind immediately raced, trying to make sense of what he said. "I have a few friends looking for strong workers, and I think you'd fit perfectly." The not-yet-man paused, leaving Jobe to ponder what his future could hold. He had heard talk of slavers from the eastern sea, but thought them only rumors. Thinking back to his Father, his heart broke in anger at how foolish he'd been to think he could manage the world on his own. Barely a man of 20 years, with experience being beaten by the catch pole and his father, thinking he could survive a real fighter. "Please sir, let me go..." he begged "My family awaits me.". The foot on his shoulder lightened a hair more, returning him to his original position. "Where are you from, boy?" The irony of such a young voice calling him boy was lost on Jobe, in his predicament. "Myirwood! They would pay you handsomely if you brought me to them and said you saved me. I can get you more than the slavers will pay!" Jobe was grasping for straws, the dire situation he was in left no room for anything but last ditch begging. The foot pulled back, and Jobe heard him step in the mud. "Myirwood. How far is it from here?" "A day and a half walk north of here in good weather, sir! If...if we're still near The Fat Minister." Jobe replied, suddenly aware he was not sure how long he had been unconscious for, or if at all. The hit he had endured scrambled him real well. Jobe sat in agonizing silence for a few moments, until the voice replied "Very well." And the next thing Jobe felt was a boot kicking him square across the jaw, knocking him out once more.

The Ultimate Guide to Removing Gasoline Odors From Anything
No matter how cautious homeowners are, gasoline leaks and spills do occur. From spare cans tipping over in the garage, leaking lawnmowers, chainsaws, and even vehicles, there are instances where gas odors are simply out of your control. Not only is gasoline odor a nuisance, but it also poses serious health risks if left untreated. Understanding how to remove gasoline odors can not only keep your assets intact, but it can also prepare you for those untimely occasions when gasoline makes it way onto your clothes or belongings.
What Makes Gasoline So Odorous?
It’s hard to mistake the smell of gasoline. Gasoline has a unique and pungent scent, one which can linger for days or week on in. We have heard of stories of hormones being at wit’s end with lingering gasoline smells, resulting in them throwing away or replacing items, due to the offensive, pungent odor. The strong scent of gasoline comes from hydrocarbons, these organic compounds are also found in common household items such as glue, paint, and cleaning solutions. While hydrocarbons do quite a bit of good, they also have the potential to be detrimental to you health and belonging if not properly taken care of.
One of the more common and offensive hydrocarbons is called benzene, a colorless and very flammable liquid. Even in its smallest concentration, benzene can easily be identified by the slightly sweet scent. Benzene and methane are what makes gasoline fumes so potent and dangerous, as prolonged exposure to hydrocarbons can create severe health risks.
Dangers of Gasoline Odors to Your Health
As a toxic substance, there are numerous health risks stemming from inhalation or physical contact with gas fumes. Gas poisoning can affect nearly every major organ in the body, making the elimination of gasoline odors crucial for your health.
Some common symptoms of gasoline poisoning include: • Difficulty breathing • Burning sensation in the esophagus • Abdominal pain & vomiting • Loss of vision • Pain or burning of the throat • Dizziness • Severe headaches • Fatigue & weakness • Loss of consciousness • Irritation or burning of the skin
Aside from these health issues, there are a few more serious, long-term health risks that involve inhalation of gasoline fumes. Lung damage and cancer are common concerns associated with prolonged inhalation of gasoline.Small, gas-powered engines have also been found to increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, which can cause permanent brain damage and even fatalities.
Do Home Remedies Work on Gasoline Smell?
There are plenty of home remedies available on the Internet to get rid of gasoline odors. Many do-it-yourself cleaning methods involve a combination of these following household items:
• White vinegar • Vanilla • Lemon juice • Baking soda • Salt • Rubbing alcohol While they may work for short-term relief, the reality is that while odors may be reduced or temporarily masked, these home remedies cannot permanently get rid of gasoline odors. To completely neutralize and eliminate gasoline odors, a more thorough approach is necessary.
How to Get Gasoline Smell Off Hands
Removing gasoline odors from your hands can be quite a tricky process. Gasoline can cause irritation and rashes, and the process of removing the smell may exacerbate these issues. Allergies and skin sensitivities not only make gasoline odors more troublesome and painful, but they can also make removal much more complicated.
Because hands touch multiple surfaces throughout the day, including food and water, lingering gasoline fumes on hands can be particularly dangerous. The hazardous chemicals inside gasoline odors can easily transfer to surfaces throughout the home, spreading the scent and making removal even more challenging.
As a health risk, gasoline smell on hands can be a serious issue. Transferring gasoline fumes to kitchen utensils, linens, food, or drinking water increases the likelihood that the harmful hydrocarbons in gasoline will be inhaled or even ingested.

Blue collar workers and mechanics who are constantly working on machinery, cars, are at high risk or exposure for getting gasoline smells on their clothes.
In fact, for some, contact with gasoline simply comes as part of the job. Whether it happens every day or once a year, getting gasoline smell out of clothes can be challenging, because clothing absorbs and soaks up liquids, gasoline can be retained for longer periods of time in clothing fibers. While household detergents are commonly used to eliminate gasoline smells, these detergents will only provide a temporary solution to a lingering issue. Detergents are well-equipped to clean dirt and grime from clothing, but when it comes to chemical smells such as gasoline odors, traditional detergents will just mask the odors and not be a good fit for gasoline odor removal.

The smell of gasoline inside your car can be a potentially dangerous situation, both for the car itself and for your health. The causes of gasoline odors in your car can range anywhere from an overfilled gas cap, a leaky canister, or even an injector or fuel tank leak. No matter what the cause, the presence of gasoline odors inside the car carry a long list of potential for adverse side-effects. Inhaling gas fumes for long periods of time can create the following health risks: • Dizziness • Loss of consciousness • Severe headaches • Irritation of lungs, esophagus, & throat • Loss of vision • Difficulty breathing • Extreme fatigue & weakness
As a driver, these health risks can create serious problems on the road, resulting in accidents or even fatalities. If there are gasoline odors inside the car, they need to be removed as quickly and efficiently as possible, both for personal and public safety.
Removing odors can be challenging, especially if gasoline has seeped into the carpet or upholstery. There are plenty of industrial cleaners and home remedies that claim to remove gasoline odors from the car, though these are largely ineffective. Cleaners and home remedies use fragrances and perfumes to mask odors, not remove them. Without fully removing gasoline smells, the fumes will reappear and continue to release harmful chemicals into the air, posing significant health risks to both drivers and passengers.

It can be used on carpets, fabrics, upholstery, and other surfaces that are water safe and extractable. How to Get Rid of Gasoline Odor in My House
Having gasoline odors inside the home is a particularly challenging problem. We spend close to 90% of our time indoors, which means that indoor air quality has a huge effect on day-to-day health. Gasoline odors can not only rapidly decrease your indoor air quality, but can also pose serious health risks for adults, children, and pets in the process. Benzene is a chemical additive found in gasoline, and inhaling benzene can create some serious health concerns, which include: • Leukemia & other blood-related cancers • Anemia • Limited immune system function • Bone marrow damage • Rapid heart rate • Chromosomal damage • Limited central nervous system function • Lowered birth weight
In severe cases, the central nervous system may be severely affected enough to cause respiratory failure, resulting in death. Children and pets are especially susceptible to the negative health effects of benzene, creating an urgent need to remove gasoline odor from the home as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
Because gasoline odors come from chemical sources, lingering gasoline odors inside the home can also become corrosive over time. Linens and upholstery are particularly susceptible to corrosion through gasoline odor, as they can easily absorb the chemical compounds. Aside from chemical corrosion, the presence of gasoline odors can often leave homeowners with no choice but to throw away and replace household items that retain the pungent smell of gasoline. Thus, removing gasoline odor from the home is not just about protecting indoor air quality and health, but also about ensuring that household items are preserved.
Removing gasoline odor from the home is a challenging task. Sprays and cleaners simply mask odors rather than eliminate them entirely, leaving harmful hydrocarbons to linger in the air and settle on upholstery, furniture, carpets, and more.
To thoroughly clean air and remove airborne contaminants, OdorKlenz offers two solutions: the OdorKlenz Mobile Air System and the OdorKlenz-Air for HVAC Filter which can be used simultaneously or separately depending on the severity of the situation to restore the indoor air quality.
Air Purifiers – Filtration, Gaseous Pollutants
As a portable air purification unit, the OdorKlenz Mobile Air System is a great option for those who want to restore or improve their indoor air quality, while removing noxious or potentially damaging chemical odors and malodors.
The air purification unit comes with a patented air cartridge, which contains a proprietary blend of materials that work to take in offensive odors such as gasoline vapors and put them through a patented destructive adsorption process, which breaks down the chemistry at the source, rather than mask them through perfumes or scents. The OdorKlenz Mobile Air System is versatile enough to remove gasoline odors but is not limited to just gasoline odors and smells but rather focus on removing a broad array of odors which include cooking odors, perfumes, paint, VOCs, new carpet odors, pets, mold odors and mildew smells, and household chemicals. Odors are broken down, neutralized, and trapped within the OdorKlenz-
OdorKlenz-Air Cartridge- Chemical Odor Eliminating Air Filter
For homeowners who prefer to use their existing HVAC system to improve indoor air quality, the OdorKlenz-Air Cartridge is a great addition to any air conditioning or heating system. Once installed, the air cartridge works alongside your HVAC system to filter out any contaminants before heated or cooled air is distributed throughout the home.
Odors have an adverse effect on indoor air quality, decreasing health and overall quality of life while in the home. To combat noxious odors, the OdorKlenz-Air Cartridge removes pollutants from the air without using harmful chemicals, fragrances, or masking agents. For whole-home health through improved indoor air quality, the OdorKlenz-Air Cartridge is a valuable addition to any existing HVAC system.
Conclusion Tackling the challenge of gasoline odors takes an in-depth approach, one which cannot be accomplished through using household cleaners or homemade remedies. Whether removing gasoline odors from hands, clothes, cars, or inside the home, effective removal requires breaking down the chemical compounds found in odors. Luckily, with OdorKlenz products, noxious odors can be thoroughly and permanently eliminated, improving health and overall wellbeing for any homeowner and their family.
