The Fattening Calendar: November
And here is the second month of our fattening calendar: November! It is a very important month for the American continent, because it hosts two of its most famous holidays. In Northern America: Thanksgiving! As the webtoon “My Chubby Boyfriend” puts it: “How can anyone ignore Thanksgiving? Just think of all the food! The mashed potatoes, the cream corn, the cranberry sauce, the turkey, the casserole, the cornbread, the pies, the turkey, the green beans, the yam, the gravy, the turkey… THE TURKEY!” In Southern America: The Day of the Dead! (Usually between October 31st and November 2nd), where you have to offer to the spirits of the dead all sorts of snacks and breakfasts. The dead will eat it with pleasure, however they only consume the “spiritual essence” of the food, leaving behind its material shape. As a result, once the celebrations are done, you can hog all of the ofrendas! Plus, it is believed that a food “consumed” by a spirit afterward lacks all nutritional value. So go ahead, stuff yourself with candies and fruits and nuts! Discover the pan de muerto, the bread of the dead, a sweet egg bread made in various shapes (circle, skull, rabbit) and decorated with a white frosting imitating twisted bones. Speaking of skulls, you must try the calaveras: human skulls, made of chocolate or of sugar. And don’t forget the candied pumpkins, the tamales, the colada morada, the guagua de pan! No wonder in Belize this holiday is called “Hanal Pixan”, “food for the souls”. However, November isn’t the property of America. It’s also a fattening month in Asia. For example, in Hong Kong, it is the Wine and Dine month, starting with the Wine and Dine festival, a celebration of wine and gastronomy! It is also the month of the twin holidays, Pepero Day and Pocky and Pretz Day! Pepero Day is a South Korean holiday, on November 11th, similar to St Valentine’s Day, when you’re supposed to offer Pepero snacks (chocolate-dipped cookie sticks) to friends and people you care for. The legend says it all started when two teenage girls offered each other Pepero snacks, with the wish that they would both become as tall and thin as the Pepero. But of course, all of that is just pure marketing. It’s even more commercial than St Valentine’s Day, and it has been heavily criticized for it. And it has also been criticized for its hypocrisy because, and remember that, while a Pepero snack is supposed to be a wish for you to become tall and thin, the Pepero themselves are known to be highly caloric… Its twin holiday is celebrated in Japan, on the same day. It’s just the brand that changes: it’s the Pocky and Pretz Day, official celebration of the thin, long, chocolate dipped biscuits. All of that being said, there’s still a lot of side-holidays to mention. November 6th: Gustav Adolfsdagen. The Swedish Day of Gustave Aldophe, a former king of the country. The tradition forces you to eat at least one “Gustav Adolfsbakelse”, a special cake with the face of the king drawn on it. Another excuse to stuff yourself with cakes all day long! November 10th or 11th: Saint Martin’s Day. It is highly celebrated in the Germanic regions of Europe (Flandres, Belgium, Germany) and in some Scandinavian ones. During this holiday, you’re supposed to eat a roasted goose (the goose being the fattest at this time of the year), usually served with red cabbage and meat quenelle, or with fish, or even with potatoes. Other traditional foods are croissants, given to children, spéculoos and folards (also called voelaren). November 12th: The Day of the Guinness World Records. Try to beat one of the many eating records! November 15th: Shichi-go-san, a Japanese holiday. It is a rite of passage for very small children, so it shouldn’t interest us, BUT it is a day of candy. The children are supposed to receive and eat Chitose ame (thousand-year candy), wrapped in a thin edible rice paper. It is a symbol of longevity and a healthy growth, so if you eat a lot of them, it should just help you grow, right? The European Week for Waste Reduction: the dates change often, but we can still re-adapt this week to our own designs. Waste Reduction? Simple. Don’t leave anything on your plate, always ask your friends “You’re gonna eat that?” and make sure every single leftover disappears. A final mention: November is also, in Europe, the month of the Hallowtide (the trio of Christian holidays that are All Saint’s Eve, All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day), which is deeply linked to the old tradition of soul cakes. During these three holidays, people called “soulers” (often beggars or children) would come to the door of each house and ask for a soul cake, also called soulmass-cakes, in exchange for singing and praying for the souls of the giver or their friends, or for easing up the way of the giver’s deceased relatives through Purgatory. But, let’s be honest, it more to get free food than anything else. It’s this tradition that gave the trick or treating in Halloween, or the Pão-por-Deus in Portugal (children going from door to door on All Saint’s Day, receiving cakes, nuts, pomegranates, sweets and candies). Speaking of the All Saint’s Day, November 1st is also a special food-day in some countries. For example, in Austria and Bavaria, people ate the Allerheiligenstriezel, a braided yeast pastry offered to one’s godchildren. And in Guatemala, there was a special meal called “fiambre”, made of cold meats and vegetables. However don’t hog it all: think of leaving some for the dead. A warning, however. November is also the month of two… special days, and you’ll have to find a way to deal with them on your own. I’m talking about World Diabetes Day, on November 14th, and Anti-Obesity Day, on November 26th. To finish this post, here are all the "regular" food days! # 1st of November: World Vegan Day. Who said eating a lot of vegetables wasn’t a good way to gain weight? # 2nd of November: National Deviled Egg Day in the USA. You are what you eat, and if you eat ton of eggs, trust me you'll be as round as one! # 3rd of November: National Sandwich Day in the USA. Simple, but efficient. # 4th of November: National Candy Day in the USA. You wanted more candies on Halloween? Well here's the day for you! # 6th of November: National Nachos Day in the USA. Sweet nachos, who can miss them? # 7th of November : National Mud Cake Day in Sweden. No matter if it's made of mud, it's cake! # November 12: National Pizza with the Works except Anchovies Day + Chicken Soup for Soul Day (USA) # 15th of November : National Cheese and Bread Day in the United-Kingdom # 16th of November: National Fast-Food Day (USA). Seriously, how can you ignore such a perfect excuse to gain weight? # 19th of November: National Soup Day in Germany. + National Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day (USA) # November 20: National Milk Day in India. Milk helps you become a big and strong person! So drink! Drink! DRINK IT! # 21st of November: National Stuffing Day in the USA. As in, the stuffing you put in the turkey. However… we can still interpret that the way we want, right? # November 25: National Parfait Day (USA) # 26th of November: National Cake Day (USA) # 28th of November: National French Toast Day (USA) # 29th of November: National Lemon Cream Pie + Chocolates Day (USA). And it’s also, still in the USA, the National “Throw Out Your Leftovers Day”. I interpret that as “throw out the leftovers into someone else’s mouth”. # 30th of November: National Mousse Day Two honorable mentions: In the UK the first week of November is National Sausage Week, while in the USA November is the National Candy Month.

Market Boy 4
Previous Parts: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Words: 1.7K
Warnings: None
******************
So far it has been about four months since you and Kook have been together, you've met his friends, on accident of course. During that time he met your friends as well, but unfortunately he still hasn't met your parents.
You were currently at your parents house, helping your dad with his garden that he cherished dearly.
"So when are we going to meet this little boyfriend of yours?" Your dad asked while you helped him in his garden.
"I'm not completely sure yet daddy, he's kinda shy, and you can be intimidating sometimes" You replied, patting the soil down gently.
"Of course I'm going to be intimidating, some boy thinks he's good enough for my daughter, I need to know if he's really worth it" He said and you smiled at how protective he's being.
"Well I can assure you that he is an amazing boy, and that you have absolutely nothing to worry about dad, he's a good boy and I trust him a lot" You walked over to him and hugged him tightly.
"I still want to meet him" he said and I nodded.
"You two weirdos come inside it's time for lunch!" Your mom announced as she stuck her head out of the back door.
"I'm coming mama!" You helped your dad off the floor and walked into the house taking off the shoes and gloves you were wearing at the time.
"Ooh mommy that smells really good, I missed your cooking a lot" You told her walking past her to go and wash off the dirt on your hands.
"Well then you and your little boyfriend should come down here and live closer to us" she said in a sly tone and looked at you, then raised her eyebrow.
"Jungkook and I haven't even thought about moving in together yet mommy." You dried off your hands and grabbed a plate.
"How about you two come by for dinner this week? I'm sure the boy likes soul food, right?" She offered and you chuckled before nodding in response.
"I will definitely participate, and then I'll ask him if he wants to as well." You told her walking over to her with your plate held out.
"Good, I want to meet the boy that makes my daughter smile" she said filling the plate up with food.
"Extra rice please mommy"
"You and your extra rice" she mumbled putting more onto the awaiting plate.
A few days later
Tonight was the night that Jungkook would finally be having dinner with your parents, and to say he was nervous was an understatement.
"Is there anything specific that I should talk about while I'm there?" He asked you as he sat in the passenger seat while you focused on the road so that you could drive to your parents house.
"Baby I told you, just be yourself. My parents aren't strict at all. It's kind of weird how relaxed they are actually." You chuckled to yourself, but all Jungkook did was look out the window nervously.
"Everything is going to be fine, I've told them enough about you and they love you already" You reassured him while grabbing his hand and kissing it.
"You promise?" He asked looking over at you with his doe eyes.
Even when you're driving you look like a goddess. He thought to himself and started to feel a little better.
"Yes kookie, I promise" You responded.
In about ten minutes you both pulled up to your parents house and Jungkook became a nervous wreck all over again.
"Jungkook just breathe and everything will be okay" You said to him and he nodded taking a deep breath before getting out of the car.
He held her hand as you guys walked up to your parents front door.
"Jungkook your palms are sweaty" You mumbled and began wiping your hands on your dress.
"I'm a nervous wreck, I can't help it I'm scared!" The poor boy exclaimed and froze up again when he heard somebody unlock the door.
"You're here! This must be the boy you've been talking about" A young looking woman with dark skin and curly black hair said.
If Jungkook saw this woman walking on the streets, he would have no idea that she was in her 50's, she certainly didn't look like it.
"Yes mommy this is Jungkook, Jungkook this is mommy." You said.
"Mommy? I thought she was your sister. It's nice to meet you, you're much more prettier in person" He told her flashing her a bright smile.
"Well aren't you just charming. Thank you very much Jungkook. You can call me mom" she said shaking his hand.
"Come inside I don't want you both standing out here all day" she said to you both, urging you inside the house.
"Honey! They're here and he's very handsome!" Your mother said, looking at Jungkook and the boy blushed looking down
"Awe mama you've made him blush" You said pinching his cheeks gently.
He playfully pushed your hands and pulled you close to me as he wrapped an arm around your waist and kissed your forehead.
"Dad!" You exclaimed, pulling away from Jungkooks embrace.
"There's my little angel, how are you doing baby girl?" He asked rubbing your arm and kissing the side of your head, being careful not to mess your hair.
"Amazing, I missed you guys a lot even though I just saw you a few days go. Oh daddy this is Jungkook, Jungkook this is my dad" You said and Jungkook slowly walked over and held his hand out waiting for your dad to shake it.
He looked at Jungkook's awaiting hand and shook his head. Jungkook became nervous again for what felt like the 50th time in just ten minutes.
"N-no?" He looked at your nervously and took his hand back.
You tried not to smiled and looked down at your hands, shaking your head since you knew what was coming next.
"Dad, you're scaring him." You mumbled.
Before Jungkook completely took his hand away, your dad pulled him into a hug and Jungkook was left speechless. He wrapped my arms around him and smiled softly, his nerves starting to die down.
"I don't do handshakes. I give hugs, and I judge you depending on that" Your dad said to him and Jungkook nodded in understanding.
"H-how was my hug?" He asked nervously.
Your dad smiled at Jungkook and patted him on the back.
"I can tell that you're going to be in this family for a long time." Your dad said and that made Jungkook's heart feel full.
"Alright you two enough small talk, let's eat I'm hungry." You said taking Jungkook's hand into your own and began walking to the kitchen.
"Your dad isn't as scary as I thought." He whispered in your ear.
"He's not scary, he's just weird and really nosey." You said sitting down at the kitchen table.
"Oh you mean like Seokjin?" He chuckled at his own joke and reached under the table to hold your hand.
"So today we have wild rice, and in a few minutes when it is done baking, we are going to have baked chicken with macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and green beans. And for dessert we will be having homemade ice cream and pie" Your mother announced as she took a seat next to Y/N's father.
Jungkook nearly started to drool over all the food that your mother started mentioning.
"Ma'am, this all looks phenomenal" Jungkook complimented her in awe as she sat all the food down in front of everyone.
"Awe thank you Jungkook, remember sweetie. You can just call me mom. You're apart of the family now. I can tell Y/N really liked you" Your mother said to him and he gave your hand a light squeeze from under the table.
"Well I really like her too. I like her a lot actually" Jungkook looked back at you and you smiled at him while leaning over and pressing his lips against yours.
"I like you a lot too Jungkook" You mumbled before kissing him again.
"Okay no PDA at the table please." Your father said and you both pulled away with your foreheads pressed together.
After The Dinner
"Thank you all again for having me, you have a lovely home" Jungkook said as he gave your mother a hug
"Thank you for coming. We don't get many visitors since Y/N and her siblings moved out of the house." Your mother said sighing sadly.
"It's nice to have a visitor every now and then" Your dad also chimes in as he gave Jungkook another hug.
"I'll try and get her to come out more often, I'd love to meet her siblings and other family members." He told them.
"I'll try and come out here more often mom. Running the shop can be very tiring sometimes though" You said as you walked past them and onto the front porch.
"Please do. You're our youngest. We miss seeing you a lot" Your father said to you and Jungkook felt his heart clench.
"I will dad" You reassured your father.
You walked over to your parents and gave them both hugs and kisses on their cheeks.
"I love you both so much and I'll try to visit you all more often" You said as you pulled back.
"Please do. Have a nice night we love you. And get home safely!" Your parents waved at you both as you walked to the car
"We will!" You both said in unison.
Jungkook got in on the passengers side and put his seat belt on, finally being able to release a sigh in relief.
"That was actually really fun today Kookie" You said while buckling your seat belt.
"Yeah it was. I was worried about nothing" He reached over and took your hand in his own kissing it gently.
"Hey remember when I said I really liked you earlier today?" He asked you playing with the rings on your fingers.
"Yes I remember that" You said focusing on the road.
"Well I really do like you. Like a lot" Jungkook looked over at you and you smiled while still keeping her eyes on the road.
It was silent in the car until you pulled up to a red light where you grabbed his cheeks and kissed him passionately.
"I like you too, a lot." You said looking deep into his eyes.
