We say we're friends, we play pretend (1/2)
Pairing: Charlie Gillespie x Fem reader
Summary: Charlie and Y/N were best friends and a couple as teens, after their breakup they meet again 4 years later on the bootcamp of JATP and have to work together. Will something else happen or they are just friends?
Charlie must have imagined something like this could happen. Since Kenny discovered her 5 years ago, she has been a really close friend to the director, participating in some way or another in almost all his projects.
In front of him after years, Y/N Y/L, his childhood best friend and ex-girlfriend. The young actor is not going to admit that he saw every single one of her projects or how moved he was by her in each one of them, many times even thinking of maybe sending her a little message saying the incredible job she did.
But he never found the courage.
It’s weird to remember how he spent most of his life next to the woman, now one of the top youth artists with multiple musicals and movies on her hits list. They always had a strong bond, every single day together. Sleepovers, music classes, dancing classes, homework, parties, movie nights, hockey, illness days, pretty much everything. At the age of 15 they began a very sweet and innocent relationship that ended at 18 when Y/N moved to New York to work in her first leading role.
The break up was on good terms but painful, so painful that both preferred to lose contact completely than to have the other from time to time opening the wound again and again.
And there she was. As beautifil as ever, speaking happily with Kenny while Madison and Owen jump up and down, Jeremy smiles and Charlie looks like he wants to throw up.
“Y/N Y/L, my golden star. She is the official composer of the soundtrack, and she will be supporting you throughout the album process as well as helping Paul and me in other creative aspects, I know she is the same age as some of you but she has a lot of experience in this and all the necessary preparation so don't hesitate to get all the knowledge you can out of her."
Everyone introduces themselves until the guitarist is the only one left, luckily for him, he’s in voice rest these two weeks so he literally cannot speak.
They both look nervous but the moment their eyes meet their complicity comes out and both smile slightly.
“He’s Charlie, he is in voice rest but we are fans of yours. We cried yesterday watching your last musical, it was just brilliant." Owen lets out hardly breathing, Y/N turns with a smile to see the Canadian boy who wants to kill his friend and then commit suicide.
“Thank you! This is going to be such an interesting experience.” The singer murmurs as she winks at Charlie.
2 hours later they had both been avoiding each other, Y/N writing in a corner while the band and Kenny discuss costumes with Soyon, in which at least half an hour has been wasted trying to understand what Charlie is trying to say with the few words he writes with an apple pencil on his ipad in his horrible handwritting.
Y/N gets frustrated and goes to where they are, approaching behind Charlie's shoulder to see the iPad. She quickly identifies the two words, one so crossed out that it looks like a doodle, but years copying each other's homework pays off.
"He's trying to say that if Luke isn't going to wear bandanas, at least consider wearing beanies." The young woman says as she leans on the shoulder of who was her first love.
Charlie freezes at their proximity, blushing a little at the feeling of being close after so long. Luckily his castmates don't realize it because all their attention is on her.
“You are just good for everything huh? Even deciphering hieroglyphs." Owen comments, smiling at her and winking exaggeratedly to make her laugh.
Charlie can't help but feel insecure with the situation. It could be a friendly thing but If Owen really tries to flirt with her, he doesn't know how he would react. Is sad enough not having her in his life anymore, having her as his best friend's girlfriend would just be too painful.
Now, he knows he’s exaggerating, and a lot. But he has to do something about it. Better safe than sorry.
He stretches his neck to meet the eyes of his ex-girlfriend, who is now only inches away. She quickly gets flustered, but hides it pretty well. The problem is that he knows every gesture perfectly and sees through her mask.
“Wh- What, Gillespie?” She manages to say, Charlie can’t help a smile seeing the way she still reacts towards him.
When you know a person completely, every facet, every gesture, every peculiarity, speaking without words is as natural as breathing. And they had both forgotten how amazing it feels to have someone in your life who is this compatible and magnetic.
They start a conversation, she answers to who secretly still believes as her person while he continues making gestures and mimics that no one else understands, writing a word from time to time to make the talk flow better.
"I know. Hey, it's not my fault! So you excuse yourself with the ‘can't talk’ thing huh? how convenient. Yeah, Ok, I will. I said I will!" Her words are the only thing that they manage to get out of the conversation that the secret ex-couple is having, since no matter how much attention they pay to him, they have no idea how Y/N manages to decipher it.
"I have no idea what's going on but I'll take it as a miracle, I was just going to suggest ignoring Charlie these 2 weeks." Jeremy jokes, everyone nods their heads.
“I mean, it’s still a good option.” Madison replies.
The 14 days go by quickly, and with the former couple spending time together daily, rehearsing Charlie's guitar solos together, with Y/N translating his horrible scribbles, or sometimes simply being close to each other enjoying the company, absentmindedly placing their hand on the other's leg or their forehead on their shoulder for a few seconds during the breaks.
Basically the whole team has noticed the flirtatious smiles and the looks, but Charlie was the weakest rival of both and the one who could release some information about it, and without being able to speak they basically ran out of an informant, since the young singer didn’t let go a word about her unexpected chemistry with the guitarist except the typical ‘we are just good friends’.
But without a doubt the energies began to multiply on Monday when Charlie arrived with the green light to be able to speak and start singing in rehearsals. Madison couldn't attend the first few hours because she was at school, so Y/N was going to cover her so the boys could practice.
“The first on the list is Finally Free, the place where we are going to record it only gave us two weeks from now so it will have to be one of the priorities. For the first rehearsal just vibe with the song and we’ll discover where to go from there. Oh, and good luck keeping up with my golden star, you’ll need it."
Y/N starts the first verse on the keyboard, and gets up to sing the chorus in the center, trying to ignore Charlie and looking up at Jeremy. She hadn’t heard him sing for a couple of years, but the same butterflies appear in her stomach and she knows that she will melt if she looks into his eyes.
Unfortunately for her, Kenny doesn't have the same plan, and just before the second verse ends he tells her to walk over to Charlie, who immediately smiles and sings the pre-chorus with much more enthusiasm. The energy they radiate floods the place, both getting closer and closer. By the time the bridge arrives, their foreheads are practically against each other, their lips only an inch apart, and with a confidence and comfort while singing to each other that makes all those who suspected that there was something between them now practically sure.
Luckily there are only Jeremy, Kenny, Owen and Paul in the room, who decide to play a game of divide and conquer now that the snitch part of the equation can speak.
“Y/N, can you come with me for a moment? I have a new idea for ‘Wow’ and a fresh pair of eyes is just what I need.” Paul says, sacrificing himself for the greater good.
“Yeah, of course, I’ll be right back.” The singer takes the opportunity to leave this staring game with Charlie and quickly walks away from the guitarist, who winks at her in a flirting way in response.
The moment they walk out the door, everyone turns to see Charlie, who has no idea what they're up to.
“What?”
"After what just happened you just can't keep pretending nothing's happening. Man, that was more intense than the whole Troyella moments during all three movies." Kenny pretends to be offended for a second and then nods.
"I have never seen anything like this in all my years of career."
“Yeah dude it was electric.” Owen replies, smirking.
“She’s my person.” Charlie mumbles.
If he’s being honest with himself, deep down he always knew she was the only one for him. But that realization was freaking scary. What's next if the only person for you has already turned the page? gave up without a fight? what's left?
"What?" The three ask in unison, and Charles begins to sing like a bird.
“We grew up together and then we lost the way. Like in those romantic movies where just everyone knows they belong together except the childhood best friends and then they end up ruining their lives by being in denial.”
“From what I saw getting back on track shouldn't be too difficult, Charlie. I assure you that whatever you feel she feels it too. Her eyes don’t lie." Jeremy tries to reason with him.
“Leave your teen problems behind. You are old enough to decide what you want and find a way to make it work. But you have to stop pretending that nothing is happening first." Owen scolds his friend.
“Do you love her?” Jer asks.
“That answer is always going to be yes, I just could never stop loving her even If I tried. And I did.” He really did. The surprise he got when the second he had her close to him his heart began to beat like crazy and all he wanted was to hug her and fix everything. It was as if when seeing her eyes time hadn’t passed, as if only the day before they’d been goofing around together. That bond is so big that he doesn’t believe it’s possible to break.
“Then do something about it, bro! Go get your girl back!” Jeremy advises while Kenny smiles.
“Yeah man, it’s ‘Now or never’ like her song, and I guess ours too now? Since she wrote it for Sunset Curve? Well, anyway, it’s like our song says.” Owen exclaims excitedly.
“Ohhh, musical inspiration, let me try. ‘Get up, get out, relight that spark’.” Jeremy sings to Charlie.
“Jer, you are a genius. If you think about it wake up is actually a pretty good soundtrack song for this situation. ‘It's not what you lost, It's what you'll gain raising your voice in the rain’.”
They both keep singing the song until they reach the bridge, Charlie tries to look frustrated but a slight smile escapes his face.
They are right, he still hasn't lost this fight.

This is per day.
This is strict education.
This is doing assignments to prove knowledge exists in three brain
This is not learning time as we Learn 24/7.
This is the amount of time you need to be focused on your child's education per day.
I know some schools are providing a different curriculum but look... This was thrown on you in a flash.
I haven't said much or gave you guidelines because you need to learn if it's too hard or too easy or you need a break.
Some may not taken it seriously or too seriously.
So this is reality. Anymore is going to fry your childs brain to take tests all day long or write all day.
So they may not mind but they could be over achieving
Which is blessed to have such a child however you need to guide them to overachieve without stress. So they don't burn out.
Now you can set your pre-k to 12 grader at the computer for up to 8 hours of fun on education websites such as Sea World's, time 4 learning. And Other fun education.
Also Netflix had a great history program which wad absolutely amazing and i will Google and post it here.
My kid... We don't book work and write. We read or watch tv and i check for attention.
"So what did the President say in 1986 regarding AIDS?" dude she will give so much information I will wonder if we were in the same room together.
If she doesn't or didn't pay attention to something insignificant... I ask do you want to rewatch it or move on?
I'm not gonna lie. She is better at learning then i am. I have brain damage, physical brain damage and developed ADD in my 20s. Like i couldn't even read a magazine much less a book. So paying attention is more difficult for me.
So she exceeds my expectations by far.
I don't feel dumb i feel gratified that she pays attention and i feel proud of her. I tell Her she will be a success in life.
I was Valedictorian for high school in 1999.
So not a big deal. That I'm not so good about it now
But people who aren't great in grade school can shine in adult hood
So, don't stress!!!!
Use this time to spend with your kid. Thats it. In an educational atmosphere..that's all babes. Just spending time together as a family.
I saw that one lady's schedule with PE every morning. Pop in some yoga. That will go under the time limits above, especially in a pinch.
So little kids especially love learning. So 20 minutes? They could do 6 hours easy. They love learning and have the most to learn but they need rest midway. Naps.
So look if you are an overachiever and you're all no,way in Hell is my kid only doing 5 hours a day. You need to put in one hour of naptime. And one hour of yoga. That's 7 hours
Then you need to shove it. Because they're not going to learn much more than resentment.
So half time is strict time like test/assignments.
The other half is learn fun time.
Basics:
Math is paperwork. Grammar and spelling is paperwork
History and science is not. Those are verbal questions.
Can you just set your kid up a blog and tell them to write 17 sentences about whatever they want and it count as school?
Fuck yes because that is gonna stimulate their mind on its own and you will learn most about your kid.
Then you can give advice on sentence structure, pronoun and adjective use
But for them to listen to you you have to prove you know what you talk about. "Look this is an adjective and I think we can look in the thesaurus for a word with the same meaning but isn't the word pretty and we can expand your vocabulary because sometimes people like to not read pretty 5 times in one story. So let's use the word pretty first because it is easiest yo understand then let's get 4 more words that mean the same thing and use those instead."
It is 20 minutes and it is a time of learning yourself and learning with your kid and expanding their limitations. And seeing the world through their eyes.
And you should blog, too. And they can help you edit.
Now using pretty 5 times is also fine. A child may insist they want to use the same words but as why. And if they don't want to change their paper that's fine.
But you can still look up the different 4 words and then have them write them one time each so they feel more comfortable with a change.
You'll see over time they will add words they want to use they learned from you.
Because some kids are just stubborn. My own daughter is that way at times. Like "no what i think i have is perfect"
"Okay then. That is great. I love your confidence. So let's let's do another lesson then. And then work on handwriting. Okay lets just look up 4 words that mean beautiful..." You can add a muse like -- i wonder if beautiful means pretty, too -- because some kids simply don't trust you can use one word to mean the same thing as another. The color yellow is the color yellow. Its ONLY yellow.
So only pretty means pretty. So it's not the focus to force your brain into theirs
The focus is to allow the gradual process of learning.
The difference between institution learning and home based free skill learning.
So, for the assignment you have them write the word on paper with crayon or pen, their choice on paper of their choice or what limited resources you have. And so once for introduction. Then 2nd time for acceptance then 3rd time for familiarity.
But don't drill it into them. Like slow. At their pace if it takes 40 minutes for a 1st grader its fine.
While you may feel they are rejecting they may be day dreaming about the word. Feeling It. Absorbing it.
So give a ten minute limit per word tho. Its 4 words. So
Then allow them to color on that same paper. Or draw. Tell them to keep it with them to look at during commercials or when bored. Then put it on the fridge at their eye level. This will give them comfort in learning
Especially if they have had an abusive or unkind and impatient teacher.
So the next day you look up the word "glamorous" pick 4. Write 3x and even if it is the same 4... Just ask "i want to know if you remember if we used that word this week, if you wrote it down already"
If they go look and see they did then tell them it's okay we csn do it again it seems that that word is calling out to you to be heard.
If they are picking certain words a lot then you can move to writing definitions of those words. 1x each.
Sometimes you may need to simplify the definition in your own words and that is great.
Children from pre-k to Seniors in high school can do this. Now a senior you may want them to write the word 5x or not. 3x is fine.
Have them use paper and pencil tho and don't criticize their handwriting. If you honestly can't read it then let them know but if you can and its messy let it go.
They may be doctor when they grow up.
Now in order for them to write legible you need to turn off distractions and tell them to take their time
If you normally use a timer, turn it off. Let them take their time focus and concentration to focus on how they control a writing instrument.
After what you think is a long time. Half hour or 45 minutes give them a snack and have a chat about anything. Apple and juice or water and cake or milk and crackers. Whatever. Small snack with some type of quality. Cake isn't healthy but water is. So 20 minutes or however long your talk with them is... And their snack. So distract them. Let them shake it all out and then have them to finish. They should speed up. Having had positive or neutral interaction with their teacher and being allowed to have an input that is taking serious and considered equally as much ws the parent's is will really just feed their soul and so say "okay let's finish this so we can move on" as opposed to just hurry up give a Reason why they should hurry.
I say "hurry along" a lot because it usually something said while walking. And the word along isn't alone. "Hurry along side me So i don't lose you on accident"
And while hurry up means the same exact thing its used in a rude voice quite often. And it means urgent or stress. So i save that for an urgent time.
Hurry along at your pace, I'll follow you... Along side you, I am.
Hurry up means i am ahead and you are behind.
So yall got skills deeply embedded inside each of you. Allow your child to help you blossom
That is why we have kids. To help us grow as humans. Not just in population but also in mind and soul.

Evaluation - D&AD Adobe/Ladbible
This unit was able about D&AD, a design competition that asks designers and students to be as innovative and design conscious as possible. The amount of briefs is vast and each one asks of something unique. However what they all have in common is they all give the opportunity to develop thought provoking ideas. D&AD initiates real life design problems and asks for solutions, just like a client coming to an agency asking for a new ad campaign or brand packaging. I feel these briefs resonate with work I would like to do in my career and therefore I felt I would really thrive within this unit. How I was wrong. I had given myself so much pressure to come up with this perfect idea for the Monotype brief that I could not come up with one, or settle. I was going back and forth with ideas and getting myself stressed out for no reason. I needed to take a step back and rethink the brief. After visiting Hastings to see my grandmother I thought I might have got somewhere with the tradition of old black net huts but without going back to Hastings, I would have had to get all my content online which was not really the essence of the monotype brief. It was at that point that it was suggested to me that I look at the Adobe Creative Cloud/Ladbible brief which asks for a film or animation about social good. Suddenly I felt relieved that I had an idea and that I could stick with. I went back and thought about social good issues that I could relate to and in my tutorial I mentioned students who don’t get their 5 a day or eat a balanced meal. This brought more ideas into play such as examining student fridges and if there was a way of seeing the student behind the fridge. I also went on to look at how students juggle part time jobs, music and sport commitments as well as a social life at university. I looked at Ladbible’s sub brand, Studentbible that shows a lot of memes that show students struggling in a comedic way, but I wanted to know the facts.
I wanted to find some statistics so I spoke to Heidi at student services who sent me lots of great credible sources which really highlighted some major issues. All connected to mental health. Stress can lead to bad sleep which leads to bad health. So I decided to focus on the four main pillars of Money Worry, Lack of Sleep, Stress and Employability.
I decided to use props, these were fun to do but didn’t give off the bold, and visible facts that I wanted to show. Especially after I found such great research from Heidi. I attempted to film the video using a go pro and a head mount. While the go pro had a great wide-angled lens, it was nearly impossible to keep every frame in shot. The lighting was awful due to the student house had 5 out 8 down lights blown. If I thought the video had potential I might have attempted to bring lights in but I felt the video was a lost cause as it was not as successful as I had thought it would be.
That is when I decided to animate, but I had already thought of idea number 2, which involved following a character through their sleep deprivation, stress etc. I began by drawing a character, the brief was by Adobe so I looked into using all their applications. On the Ipad there is Adobe Draw, an illustrator style app for Ipads which allows you to draw using the apple pencil. The best part of Adobe Draw is that it records you drawing the artwork and then turns it into a timelapse which you can export. This gave me the inspiration to screen recording all the work I did on photoshop and After effects. Not only does this show how I used Adobe Applications, but was the easiest way to show developments within the illustration. All developments are seen in the digital timelapse but there isn’t much time to really stop and see what I had been up to.
So I thought I’d go into depth what I did during that timelapse in my evaluation.
I started by drawing a character and as I created more backgrounds, I had a lot of fun creating layers and and different clothes but soon realised that there was a limit on layers. It was then that I realised that I could export the entire project as a Photoshop File to Creative Cloud Folder. Once I got it up in Photoshop I was able to add more backgrounds and more clothes. The more the frames the longer/more interesting the video. It was in Photoshop that I could choose the delay on each frame which meant that it flipped through but was not too fast.
I had created the first draft, with basic type talking about ‘hidden issues’ etc but knew it didn’t have the ‘wow’ factor so I took it to the a sign up thinking the worst of it. Luckily I had good feedback, the tutors liked the idea and I had some positive feedback on my illustration. I was asked to rethink the type and the end title. Which I really agreed with, I thought about what it was that I was trying to say: Students, if you’re struggling there is help out there. But I know that, while AUB has a great student services and other pastoral facilities, there are universities out there that do not. So i thought about organisations who are out there to help students and came across Mind. I know Mind because my friend’s dad has dealings with them when he was in a very bad place. I thought this was a great way to showcase real help out there, I didn’t want it to be wishy washy so including Mind brand makes it more credible, in the same way I found more credible resource by Heidi.
I found that research was difficult to do as not much was out there, my illustration research came from my own skills and was not really planning on using them, they were just attempts to see if it would work. If I was doing this again I would have taken more time in choosing an illustrative style. Most of my research was based on statistics and finding out what students struggle with.
I feel like visually my idea looks quite nice, the research and concept in mediocre, the existing research is lacking and the academic research is higher then normal (most are on blog). I think my experimental process was successful with a lot of attempts and planning. My idea generation was vast but not very well focused. At first I didn’t work very independently, I depended on being told what was or was not a good idea, but once I realised the core reason for this unit I started making and doing things off my own back, constantly trying new things and to do better. Time management was overall okay, except I wish I had buckled down with an idea sooner to really have a good go at my own work. I rsuhed myself and tried to take on too much, which has made my research suffer. I am hoping my own critique, other’s, blog research and the academic research will suffice.
Overall I am happy with this project, I will contemplate handing it into D&AD and I am glad I can put it into my portfolio.

Task 3: Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail
10 ideas generation for stop motion animation:
Idea number 1:
This idea will mainly focus on paper origami. I wanted to use origami in this stop-motion animation not only because it was cheap, but there are many varieties of different origami creations that I could use.
The idea for this is rather simple, I wanted to do a stop motion animation of a paper boat origami sailing through the river forest as an adventure.
Idea number 2:
For this idea, I wanted to combine traditional 2D animation and stop motion animation together. By that I mean I wanted to create a flip-book animation of a simple bouncing ball.
The animation will begin with me opening the sketchbook and that’s when the page will begin to flip - creating an animation of a bouncing ball which then jumped out of the paper and turned into a clay ball. The clay ball will be moving around for a bit which I then tried to destroy it in various ways.
Idea number 3:
This idea is rather simple, I thought it would be interesting to see many different kinds of fruits peeling itself.
Idea number 4:
For this idea, I wanted to explore the concept of ‘life’, and I thought that the best way to do it is to create a paper cutout of a growing plant. The story will communicate the fun in life but also how life can be so short. The animation will focus on the young plant, watching it experienced joy and adventures until eventually, time’s up where the plant will slowly be withered away and where life begins again.
Idea number 5:
For this idea, I was interested in a character from the feature film animation called ‘Spirited Away’ by Studio Ghibli. The character is called ‘No-Face’ which is a character that can absorb the corruption thoughts and greeds from those around it - there, he grew to encompass their personalities as well. In the movie, No-Face was throwing a scene because it was corrupted by greed, making it take all the golds that it can get.
Similarly, I wanted to create a character based on No-Face. However, the look will be completely different as it’s going to be based on an animal called ‘Anteater’ and its body will be fluid and liquid-like. The character will go around ingesting gold coins and other valuable items it can find.
Idea number 6:
This idea is somewhat mediocre, but I thought I’d put it in here anyway. I wanted to do an intro or advertisement for the colour pencils. To do this, I would have to line the colour pencils as if it was a zipper. The colour pencils zipper will then open up, showing a drawing picture being coloured in. The scene will then moved to the colour pencils zipper scene again where the zipper is being closed.
Idea number 7:
For this idea, I wanted to do a stop motion animation of my room cleaning itself. I thought it would be interesting to see the room magically cleaned itself from scratch.
Idea number 8:
This idea is rather simple, I wanted to do a stop-motion animation of a Gundam model being build from scratch by itself. It could be interesting as Gundam models are very intricate and there are many components that go into the building.
Idea number 9:
For this idea number 9, I wanted to do a stop-motion animation of a fruit being eaten by itself. For example, shown above, I used an apple as a demonstration because it was simple, but it can definitely be any fruits. I thought it was interesting to see the fruit magically being slowly eaten.
Idea number 10:
For this final idea generation, I wanted to do a stop-motion animation of a tired day at work. The animation will begin with me writing a very long essay where I will get tired of the restless work. I then go on the internet to search for a hot coffee which I then try to grab the coffee from the screen and suddenly turned into an actual hot coffee in real life.
3 final ideas for the final production:
Idea number 1:
The idea of the animation will begin as I turned the page of the sketchbook where the page will be flipped to show the animated ball in the sketchbook. It’s a combination of traditional 2D animation and combining it with stop motion animation. After the ball bounces for a couple of times in the sketchbook, it will then jumped out and turned into a clay ball which moves and play around. However, I will be the villain and tried to destroy the clay ball in various ways.
How is your stop motion animation creative?
I believe it is creative because of the engaging idea between the ball and myself. More importantly, it is original because I managed to use a traditional 2D animation style and combining it with stop motion animation.
What are your inspirations behind this idea?
My inspiration came from remembering my days creating animation flip-book for fun. It wasn’t a grand story-telling flip-book, but I felt proud of myself at the time for being able to create an animation of my own. Therefore, I wanted to use this idea and combine it with stop motion animation.
What materials/equipment will you need?
The materials that are going to be needed for this idea are as follows:
A sketchbook
Eraser
Pencil
Clay
Furthermore, for the equipment, I would need to use a tripod during the production to absolutely make sure that the camera will not move. I will also then need a DSLR camera for the shooting as well.
Idea number 2:
For this plan B, I decided to go with idea generation number 1. As I mentioned before, the idea for this is rather simple, I wanted to do a stop-motion animation of a paper boat origami sailing through the river forest as an adventure.
Besides, the materials that I’d need for this animation is rather cheap, and it makes it easy to do the animation as I will have an unlimited amount of supplies.
How is your stop motion animation creative?
I believe this idea is creative because of how the whole animation will only need paper origami. Moreover, it is incredible to turn plain papers into an origami object, ready to animate.
What are your inspirations behind this idea?
My inspirations came from remembering the time I used to spend creating different origami. It gave me an idea to incorporate the things I loved for the stop motion animation as it could be something compelling and fun to watch.
What materials/equipment will you need?
The materials I will need for this animation to work is nothing more than papers. The whole animation will only use paper from the background, mountain and trees. Other than that, I may need to consider my lightning source and how I am going to keep the images consistency with each other during the process of production.
Furthermore, I’d obviously need a DSLR camera and a tripod to keep the camera completely still during the shooting.
Idea number 3:
Finally, for my plan C, I’ve considered certain ideas to be for my final plan. However, I’ve decided to go with idea number 5 instead. The idea is as mentioned before, I wanted to create a character based on No-Face. However, the character’s appearance will be based on the animal called ‘Anteater’ and its body will be quite fluid. I planned to animate the character going around ingesting valuable items that it can find along the way.
How is your stop motion animation creative?
I believe this stop motion animation is creative because it is engaging and it could be interesting using a similar character based on the film ‘Spirited Away’. It will be a message that I will try to communicate as people nowadays has been consumed with selfishness and greed that they are blinded to the kindness of others around them and only focusing only on themselves.
What are your inspirations behind this idea?
My inspirations behind this idea were that I initially wanted to do a stop motion animation about gold and coins. From there, I thought of the character form ‘Spirited Away’ which absorbed the negative thoughts and greed, and so I thought what better ways to do an animation of gold coins than to create a character based on No-Face.
What materials/equipment will you need?
The materials I would need for this animation to work is clay for the character. The body of the character will be quite fluid and liquid-like so I won’t have to rig my character at all.
Furthermore, I would need a DSLR camera and a tripod to keep the camera stable during the shooting process.
Project proposal:
Outline:
To begin the stop motion animation, I’ve decided to go with idea number 1. I’ve chosen this idea because it is engaging and creative to use an animated flip-book and combining it with stop motion animation where I used a clay ball to turn a flat 2D drawing into 3D.
Plan:
My plan for this stop animation is to get all of the materials ready first. I’d need a clay, sketchbook, eraser and lighting sources. I planned on doing the animation on a desk in my bedroom as my room is faced away from the sun and there is a curtain so I will be able to block all sun lights. This means that I will be able to use artificial light sources and have more control over my lighting. However, if problems occurred, I can film it during night time.
Furthermore, I’d need 2 desk lamps on the right and the left side so that the scene is thoroughly lit up. I also need to create an animation of the ball in a sketchbook so that it will be ready to do the stop motion animation.
Rationale:
The reason why I chose this particular idea is that I used to do flip-book animation all the time when I was a kid. I remembered I started getting into it was when I first saw the flipbook animation in a movie called ‘Speed Racer’ that came out in 2008. There was one scene that shown a flipbook animation, and that’s when it piqued my interests in creating my own flipbook animation.
I wanted to incorporate the idea of 2D flipbook animation not only because it reminded me of when I was a kid, but it could be exciting to combine 2D and 3D together in a stop motion animation.
Furthermore, I tried to create this stop motion animation as creatively as I could possibly can. The idea was an animation flipbook of a bouncing ball. However, it turned into a real 3D ball which plays around and moved on its own. Although, this was all in my imagination so I tried to escape back to the reality by trying to destroy the clay ball.
