look i too am pretty conflicted about the shiv pregnancy storyline (and its potential to be a narrative misstep, especially if season 4 is going to continue to be 1 ep = 1 day), and everyone's reactions and feelings are totally valid, but let's not pretend like it came completely out of nowhere. aside from the fact shiv has repeatedly been shown turning down alcohol, people have been theorising she was pregnant based solely on her being a woman putting her hand on her stomach at the end of season 3. plus all the talk of making babies and freezing embryos and horrific conversations about one's suitability for motherhood. one of the show's main themes is family trauma and the neverending cycle of abuse, sooooo yeah. them's the breaks. also, sarah said on the official podcast it was apparently always something that was on the writer's table because shiv is a woman

do i want tom and shiv to get back together because of a baby? hell no. is it a tired cliché? hell yeah. can they pull it off? i am reserving my judgement. for now
