The 100 6x01 “Sanctum” Review
Last week, ahead of the 100’s Season 6 premiere, executive producer Jason Rothenberg announced that the show has been picked up for a seventh season. This is incredible, especially since at Conageddon back in March, some of the cast teased that if the upcoming season were the show’s last, not much would feel resolved.
So, we go into the season knowing that this won’t be the end for our heroes. However, their trouble may just be starting.
Season 5 ended with the show’s biggest time jump yet — 125 years, to be exact. Monty and Harper decided to live out their lives on the Eligius ship instead of joining their friends in cryo sleep, and to spend that time finding a safe place for the ship’s inhabitants to live. And oh, one more thing — they have an adult son named Jordan (Shannon Kook) who they put in cryo.
In many ways, 6x01 feels like a parallel to the series pilot. A group led by Bellamy land on the new planet (or moon, as Jordan reveals), unsure of what they may find. There’s even a callback to Octavia’s “We’re back bitches!” that really brings that nostalgia to surface.
However, not everything is the same as it once was. In the six years plus cryosleep since the gang first landed on Earth, relationships have been forged and broken, and those cracks haven’t been smoothed over by the long nap. Much of Spacekru, notably Raven and Murphy, still resent Clarke for her actions in Eden. And though Madi seemed to have fixed Clarke and Bellamy’s relationship by telling him about the radio calls, she can’t play peacemaker for everyone.
It’s frustrating to watch Clarke dodge insult after insult, especially when we remember that Clarke missed her friends immensely for those six years she spent on earth with just Madi. However, their anger is unfortunately understandable, and as they are a family, Clarke is still an outsider.
It’s not all bad though, because Bellamy has Clarke’s back from the moment they both awaken from cryo. They seem to have a mutual understanding of that forgiveness Echo talks about as they all sit by the fire. Though it’s a nice sentiment, it seems out of character for Echo to be so forgiving, especially towards Clarke. She doesn’t have the same insight Bellamy does regarding the radio calls, after all. Perhaps she’s the only one who felt refreshed after her nap?
Regardless, there isn’t much time to dwell on feelings because nearly as soon as the explorers land on Planet Alpha, they’re faced with some bizarre new challenges. Rather than people throwing spears at them, it’s bugs angrily swarming around them, chasing them toward a radioactive tower. Unfortunately, Shaw runs into its invisible forcefield and is subsequently killed.
Though it’s heartbreaking to see Shaw go, Jason Rothenberg has revealed that he was killed off due to scheduling conflicts for his portrayer, Jordan Bolger. Bolger has been cast in an upcoming series on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network called David Makes Man.
Kane is put on ice back on the ship for the same reason, as he recently appeared in the first season of Fox series The Passage. Though Kane is technically still alive in cryo sleep, it’s uncertain what his fate will be as the season plays out.
But just before Kane is sent back to sleep, Octavia is awoken. It’s apparent that the long nap didn’t help soothe her anger either, as she angrily reminds Kane and Abby she is a monster — but they are monsters too.
Seeing Octavia awake in the first episode of the season is a necessary reminder that though Wonkru has been virtually disbanded, these characters cannot erase what they’ve done. It seems like Octavia is going to go on a long and tumultuous journey of self-discovery and perhaps self-forgiveness this season. After all, who is she now that she is no longer the Red Queen?
The highlight of this episode is definitely Murphy’s sarcastic and lighthearted commentary. It manages to cut the suspense in many places as our heroes are expecting to find death around every corner (or behind every door).
It’s nice to see a less angsty, but still equally cynical Murphy (Richard Harmon) in this new world. Jason Rothenberg recently said via his Instagram that season six is Harmon’s best season yet, and if this episode is anything to go by, I certainly believe him. A musical number was certainly a new endeavor for the actor, and he killed it (no pun intended).
And then there’s Jordan back in space with Raven, a refreshingly innocent and hopeful other side of the coin. Clarke and Bellamy have essentially been tasked with acting as his parents, and though he is very much not a child, he has a childlike innocence and naivety that none of our heroes can relate to. After all, he’s been sheltered in the safety of the Eligius ship for his entire life.
His overly hopeful demeanor begs the question: What did Monty and Harper tell him about their time on Earth? We can definitely assume they left out the most gruesome and gory parts. However, in his first moments awake since being put in cryo, he’s already being thrust into drama between Raven and Abby surrounding Abby’s pain pill addiction. So, will Jordan be able to maintain his sunny composure for long?
Regardless, his pure curiosity in this episode feels like a reflection of that of the audience, making his character immediately relatable. Shannon Kook has already proven himself a standout and out of everything to come this season, I’m perhaps most looking forward to seeing how Jordan changes like some of our favorites were forced to do when faced with the unpredictability of earth and, more importantly, its inhabitants.
Speaking of standouts though, we can’t not talk about Bob Morley and Eliza Taylor’s impeccable performances in that scene. Yes, the radio call scene.
Up until now, Clarke has been unsure of why exactly Bellamy has forgiven her for leaving him to die. But now, in a moment that really tugs at the heartstrings, Bellamy tells her that he knows about the calls she made to him every day for six years. He apologizes for not being able to answer, and jokingly calls her pathetic, earning a laugh from Clarke that brings us right back to that playfulness of season one and scenes like the Unity Day celebration — just before things went south.
Unsurprisingly, Morley and Taylor are incredible in this scene, emoting a mixture of sadness for time lost and dynamics changing, and hopefulness for a future as friends again (and maybe something more, eventually?).
Despite the chaos that ensues soon after, this moment serves as a reminder that Clarke and Bellamy are and always will be the head and the heart, connected by their mutual understanding of the struggles that come along with leadership (especially on a dying and wartorn planet). It’s so refreshing to see them side by side once again. One can only hope this means that they’ll act as the power duo we’ve come to love so much as they face whatever’s to come on Planet Alpha. Presently, this is figuring out how to deal with the effects of the red sun.
This episode thrusted us into the new world, dangerous unknowns abound. The quick pace seemed to have set us up for the turbulent season to come as our heroes face entirely new challenges including each other. The tagline of this season is “Face your demons”, and in the final moments of 6x01, we can certainly see that the demons are not anything like the ones they’ve dealt with before. Clarke and friends have constantly been troubled with the internal struggle of being the good guy, and with Monty’s reminder to do so ringing in their ears, they definitely weren’t expecting to lose control of that so quickly.
It will be interesting to see how this mantra carries our beloved character through this season, and if it will be able to hold up in this new world. So far, it seems like the answer is a resounding no — not that they have much control over the matter.
The 100 airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on the CW.

Good Omens Fic Rec List
Because I am utterly consumed by this fandom, and utterly thrilled by the waves of content that has been coming through, I thought I’d share some of the fics that have stolen my sleep and stolen my heart. ❤️
A Diamond Sky Above Titanic by SeaBlueEyes
The year is 1912, and one angel and one demon's lives are about to change forever as they embark on the fateful maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic - and a relationship utterly forbidden by both Heaven and Hell.
This. This fic. I found it through Tumblr from an ask answered by @tio-trile . Curiosity led me to google it and read it on AO3 almost immediately, and I definitely don’t regret it. Written in 2011, it’s a mesmerizing story about love and a tragedy history felt. I’m not sure what else I can say about it that can do it justice, save ‘not to worry, it has a happy ending’, so all I can say is read it.
[Complete] [Chapters: 18]
Such Surpassing Brightness by Handful_of_Silence
The revelation that Aziraphale might have been in love with him for thousands of years is surprising. The fact that literal books have been written on the subject comes as even more of a shock.
This fic was a delight to read, with a realization on Crowley’s part and a question of ‘what if Aziraphale was the patron saint/guardian angel of the queer community’. The articles, movies, and books (though mostly made up) were described amazingly and how you began to realize, along with Crowley, that their love was the subject? Astounding.
[Complete] [Oneshot]
Home is where the plants are by Beginte
There's a plant by one of the windows. Aziraphale can't recall getting a plant. He's almost sure he didn't get a plant.
-
Or: they're enjoying the beginning of the rest of their lives and Crowley repeatedly distracts Aziraphale to prevent him from noticing that he's moving in, one plant and pair of skinny jeans at a time.
A fluffy one; this fic uses the tag ‘developing established relationship’ — which is utterly accurate — and has the two slipping into their relationship, being domestic, and just loving each other.
[Complete] [Oneshot]
Bring it back, bring it back [don’t take it away from me] by wednesdaisy
After 6000 years, Crowley finally gives up on ever getting what he wants, and leaves London forever. Aziraphale doesn't like it, has a revelation, and goes after him.
The. Pining. Holy cowering blowhog.
And- and the angst. As succinctly put by the summary, Crowley leaves London and Aziraphale, giving the angel the kick he needs to sort his feelings (though still slow on the uptake).
This is a fic I really really like, with such good characterization and description of Aziraphale’s realization. A definite should read for those looking for angst with happy endings.
[Complete] [Chapters: 2]
For All Time by LynFraser09
Not long after the Armageddon that wasn't, Crowley and Aziraphale grow even closer and cross the line they've been toeing on for centuries.
Love confessions abound! Along with a serving of fluff, a napping demon on a reading angel’s lap, and banter (little bit). I love the dialog between the two in this one — seems so in character to me — and the writing style!
[Complete] [Oneshot]
to carthage then I came by Lvslie
There’s a moment of empty silence before Crowley speaks.
‘See, Aziraphale, I think it’s what I don’t want,’ he says, and Aziraphale is not brave enough to raise his eyes at him. ‘And I don’t particularly want to be your heresy.’
Getting together and moving in but not in the order you would think. This fic, the first time round, took me a while to read (and to get), but oh. There’s pining and longing — and Crowley’s existential dread — and the restraint. A good read, with a happy ending and a second chapter that made my heart hurt.
[Complete] [Chapters: 2]
the sword of damocles by dreamingstarkly
He was afraid of what Hell might do to him. He was afraid of what Heaven might do to him.
He never, ever considered whether he should be afraid of Aziraphale. No, that was so far out of mind as to be practically impossible to entertain.
Until it was too late.
Okay, oh gosh. This one. You know the scene at episode six? Where Aziraphale picks up the sword, and, for a brief moment, you could see terror in Crowley’s eyes? This is a fic about it, written amazingly about these two idiots in love. Angst with a happy ending, it also considers Aziraphale’s side, of him coming to trust, through the ages, that Crowley wouldn’t hurt him.
[Complete] [Oneshot]
What Freddie Said by Cardinal_Daughter
The Bentley decides that if its owner and the angel can’t figure out how they feel on their own, it’ll just have to help them along.
When you have a semi-sentient car who is often times witness to these two dorks, you can’t blame it for taking advantage of the radio and subtly* move them along. A humorous, lighthearted get together fic, a little bit of music is needed to open this angel and demon’s eyes.
* the word subtly is used subjectively
[Complete] [Oneshot]
Absconding with Harry verse* by obaewankenope (rexthranduil)
Harry Potter is stolen by Anthony J Crowley at the age of nine. These are the stories of how Harry James Potter fares with a demon and angel for uncles.
Full of sibilance
“You’re such a freak!” The rotund boy’s words echo across the garden of the house they seem to potentially live at—or at least one of them does—and reach Crowley’s ears easily enough. They instantly make him narrow his eyes behind his sunglasses. “No wonder your parents died! Probably to get away from you!”
What. The. Fuck.
A Good Omens-Harry Potter crossover series done by @obaewankenope! As of yet unfinished, this series is exactly what it is — Crowley absconding Harry away from the Dursleys and raising him, with the help of Aziraphale.
It’s a fun read, with a demon and an angel inserting themselves into Hogwarts to stay close to their nephew, not liking Dumbeldore (who left Harry with the Dursleys in the first place), the mutual pining between them, and smart usage of Parseltongue. I’m following this series closely to see what happens next — I’d love to see how the two interact with Sirius!
[Ongoing]
Thwarting Holy Plans by twyly56
Crowley hides a bunch of little kids in Hell during the Great Flood, so they don't drown. How monstrous of him.
Set after the Noah’s Ark scene, where Crowley abscons some kids and — practically— raises them. Not at all finished, but a good read with our favorite demon being good with kids and Soft. I’m really curious to see how this one continues!
[Ongoing]
Angel Network* by SpinnerDolphin
Aziraphale keeps a list.
—
Islington, caged beneath London (Check the locks upon leaving).
Raguel, LA (be certain his rent is paid).
Michael, Heaven, but adores Earth (keep away from bulls).
Castiel, alternate universe (don't ever go to that horrid place).
and, lately, Lucifer Morningstar, LA, who seems the sanest of the lot. It's all very confusing.
Amenadiel, LA, is also on the list, but Aziraphale reported to Amenadiel in the Rebellion and, well, some things are too strange for him even to tolerate.
Crowley's just tired of flying over the Atlantic. And turns out his boss? Well, he's kind of alright.
A Devil Put Aside (for me)
Aziraphale liked to keep tabs on his celestial buddies, but he was all tied up doing—Crowley didn’t really even know, being a lazy arse probably—so Crowley had gone to LA to check on Raguel.
But instead of a messed up archangel, he finds BLOODY LUCIFER HIMSELF. Bright side--well, weird side--the boss has apparently fallen in love with a human? So that's... something.
[A demon's perspective on Deckerstar. Or, for Good Omens fans, Crowley is totally bewildered when he finds out his boss kind of likes Earth, too. Should read clearly if you only know Lucifer or GO. Murder Mysteries is treated like ancient history, and explained in the narrative.]
Angel Network is ongoing series where Good Omens meets Lucifer, Supernatural, a tiny bit of Neverwhere, and Murder Mysteries (kind of). I utterly LOVE the characterizations in this series, and the fact that it’s a crossover of not two but more different shows/books/stories. If you were looking for that Lucifer, Good Omens, Supernatural crossover, I’d suggest this one!
[Ongoing]

Gucci Sent a Baby Dragon Down the Runway, and That’s Not All
http://fashion-trendin.com/gucci-sent-a-baby-dragon-down-the-runway-and-thats-not-all/
Gucci Sent a Baby Dragon Down the Runway, and That’s Not All
I wish I could wake up to new Gucci every morning, because frankly, I haven’t felt this invigorated since my inaugural sip of coffee in 2009. My entry point to the Fall 2018 collection was Stella Bugbee’s impressively chill Instagram video of a model carrying what appeared to be a baby dragon.
Yes, you read correctly. A baby dragon.
I say “impressively chill” in light of the unmistakable revelation that said baby dragon looks real (like, fresh-from-a-dragon-egg real) and if I were sitting two feet away from a very real-looking mythical hatchling I probably would have panicked, dropped my phone and reached out to pet it.
Gucci has yet to confirm or deny whether the dragon was real. Same goes for the iguana and the snake and the human heads and…oh, sorry, am I getting ahead of myself? I should probably slow down and unpack everything that happened in stages, for the good of humankind and the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Below, the five most bizarre things that happened during Gucci’s Fall 2018 runway show, followed by the five best. Believe me when I say there were plenty to choose from…
The 5 Most Bizarre Things That Happened at Gucci
1. The Invitation Was Extremely Suspenseful
Aside from the fact that it arrived in a ziplock bag, trimmed with what looked like cautionary tape, the invitation itself was a timer counting down (to the show, I want to assume?) in red digital numbers.
2. The Set Looked Like a Surgical Room
A creepy surgical room. A creepy surgical room in a horror story. A creepy surgical room in a horror story set in 2040. Am I setting the scene!?!?!!
3. Models Carried…All Sorts of Things
In addition to the aforementioned baby dragon, there was also an iguana, a snake and a couple of human heads. As if that wasn’t weird enough, the human heads were perfect replicas of the models’ who carried them. Talk about an identity crisis (sorry — had to).
4. A Sweater Referenced Russ Meyer’s Cult Favorite Film
Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Quite the name for a movie, huh? This film is set in 1960s California and follows three go-go dancers who embark on a kidnapping-turned-murder extravaganza in the desert. I’m still in the process of analyzing why Alessandro Michele put it on a sweater. Check back with me in six months.
5. Faux Hanging Bags Moonlighted as Outerwear
A bunch of the models wore gauzy overlays that looked kind of like Gucci garment bags on top of their outfits. They reminded me of Moschino’s $735 plastic dry-cleaning bag dress. I’m very curious about whether they’re going to be sold separately.
The 5 Best Things That Happened at Gucci
1. Balaclavas Were the Accessory to Watch
I love when two great designers (in this case Raf Simons of Calvin Klein and Alessandro Michele of Gucci) have the same great idea at the same time. I wonder if it’s purely coincidence or if they sat down together for a clandestine coffee and came to the mutual decision that sweaters for faces would be the THING next fall.
2. Ugly Sneakers Got Even Uglier
Beyond simply huge and clunky and and deliciously unflattering, the dad sneakers Gucci sent down the runway were criss-crossed with these little crystal bungee cord seat belt things and paired with fancy lace tights, like they were on a black-tie cliff-jumping expedition or something. That familiar font is courtesy of Sega.
3. So! Much! Stuff! Was Bejeweled
Croakies! Training bras! Nipple tassels! Essentially a lifetime guarantee that if you want to sparkle in every crevice, you most certainly can.
4. Fanny Packs Did a 180
Models wore them backwards so they rested upon their actual fannies, which frankly makes much more sense. I haven’t been able to find a good photo online yet so if we can all kindly join forces on #GucciFanny180Watch, that would be much appreciated.
5. American Sports Merch Abounded
Baseball caps, blazers and sweaters were embroidered with “LA” and “NY,” like Gucci’s very own bicoastal athletic team.
I watched this movie-level production unfold via Vogue’s livestream, and by the time Michele took his bow, I thought he was going to climb aboard one of the dentist chairs and take a nap. It would have been much-deserved. This collection provided equal parts Instagram and mental fodder, which is really what any good show does in 2018, but I’m still thinking about what it all means: the dragons, the heads, the creepy surgical set, the styling (So much to unpack, both physically and philosophically, and I can’t wait to tie a silk scarf around the wrist of my raincoat).
It was almost as if Michele was submitting a draft for a fantasy world plucked from his own imagination, a bizarre and exciting sanctuary where anyone and everyone is invited (hence the multitude of style references to cultures across the globe, from New York Yankees caps to Sikh turbans to Japanese Kabuki masks). I am eagerly awaiting a glimpse at the show notes to glean more insight.
In an Instagram post, Tamu McPherson called the show an invitation to become our true selves. I love that take, because even though the clothes and the ideas have only just started to percolate, they already feel like an opportunity to let our freak flags flap with abandon.
