Lucop’s character has begun to shine more than I initially planned. I’ve started to empathize with him... I’m scared of what’s to come...

For the first time in a while, I scribbled notes with doodles before I wrote the storyboard. Lately, I just type out the plot in my Notes app, so I don’t do this as much.

Senyuu F5: Chapter 19

We’ve finally reached the reveal of the 16th Floor Incident. It took longer than I expected to reach here from my first musings during Senyuu+. I’ll do my best!

This may contain spoilers, so it’s pretty blunt. It may be better to read this after this arc finishes. 

Before I finished making Pillow and Lucop’s characters, I’d finished up the entirety of the stories around the 16th Floor Incident and the Sleepiez as a whole. To me, Lucop was more like an actor moving around in his role in the story.

But as I wrote out the stories properly, lately they feel less like just existences given specific roles, and more like characters with their proper personalities. So I feel bad writing the plot developments that are about to come up. I want to make it a plot development where washtubs drop on everyone’s heads out of nowhere, then a door opens behind them, and every character dances out of it while holding a sign saying “Surprise!”

It’s been some years since I thought up the concept of the 16th Floor Incident, so it doesn’t really feel like “something I thought up” anymore. It makes me think, “Damn, this writer is scary as hell!” 

Sometimes, my readers tell me that I write serious developments out of nowhere, but that’s just where the plot ends up going. It isn’t as though I suddenly decide, “Let’s make things serious.” 

Though I do think, “Hm? Is that how things are gonna go? Should I do a serious story now?”

Now that it’s been long enough that the story I wrote no longer feels like mine, as I draw it, I end up thinking, “This guy really shoves in serious developments out of nowhere!” I see, so that’s what everyone means.

To be honest, I did think, “Maybe I should change the developments a little!” But those feelings settled down after I wrote all of this out. It’s good to vent.

I’ll live out my life like this from now on too.

Senyuu F5: Chapter 22

Lucop finally...!

My editor really likes Lucop. So when he said “Make the title Lucop McGregor please!”, when I proposed an alternative, he said, “Don’t screw around with this!”

I ended up using more chapters than I expected on Lucop, but I’ve finally reached this point.

The title I proposed was “Lucop Perishes!”, but my editor just said “Don’t screw around with this!”

Pillow’s true identity is finally revealed in this chapter. But to be honest, at first all I had thought about Pillow was that he was someone who really got along with Boss. Since there was someone in Boss’ village that kinda looked like Pillow, I even thought “What if that boy became Pillow, jk jk.” That was the extent of my thinking.

But as I threw out various plot developments and new lines, and expanded on them as I briskly drew things out, Pillow suddenly said-

“I’m Boss’ one and only demon. Made by him, for him.”

And I ended up exclaiming in surprise, “What?! Seriously?!”

If that were the case though, it would explain why he cooperates with Boss and help with a lot of future plot developments, so I ended up making this new discovery. “Huh, so that’s how it was.”

This 16th Floor Incident arc was full of surprises for me as well, with Lucop moving around more easily than I thought, and an unexpected truth being revealed about Pillow.

Senyuu F5: Chapter 24

This actually encompasses both chapters 23 and 24. I felt like I drew the 16th Floor Incident arc in order to write these stories, but Lucop ended up as too good of a character, huh...

Now then, what will happen to Pillow?!

We’ll see in the next chapter!

I made Pillow into someone who boldly does anything for the sake of his goals in the past few chapters, but in this chapter, I wanted to give off the sense that “He actually wanted to stop Boss all along?!”

But in this conversation in Chapter 2:

I had him say that, so I’ve already given him the feel that he’s a little nice.

The reason why I had him say that even though it wasn’t in my plot outline is probably because I didn’t like the idea of writing Pillow as just a bad guy throughout the story.

So as I wrote the plot twist in this chapter, I decided to just have it be a Pillow who had his true feelings revealed! It was a little different from what I initially planned, but I went down the same path in the end.

Also, I just realized this, but isn’t the shading for Pillow’s hair a bit darker here? Seems like Haruhara-kun started to mess it up somewhere along the way.

Senyuu F5: Chapter 28

A story of Chapter 28, where I only realized I forgot the screentones for the hair when grabbing a screencap for the thumbnail.

We’re going full speed ahead into the next arc! Teiba and Natsu go to meet the Second.

That’s right- this is the arc where he shines!

I was originally planning to do this plot in Chapter 27. But if I recall correctly, my (virtual) meeting with my editor about the Chapter 27 storyboard was around the time when we were all worried over whether there was going to be an emergency order. So I decided that since the world was sinking into depression, I should do a cheerful story, and made Chapter 27 a tale of Ross finding a part-time job.

Since I drew Chapters 31 and 32 at the same time, I didn’t realize that Chapter  32 was especially short. While I hadn’t decided on a specific page count per chapter, I had tried to aim for 8-10 pages, so I’m sorry.

I’ve been investigating all sorts of way to draw. I’ve been changing my pens, trying out drawing on iPad, adjusting the angle of my tablet... while lately, I’ve been doing a lot of writing/storyboard work, I’m in the mood to do everything from storyboarding to final drawings. So I’ve been trying out all sorts of things.

I do kinda feel like I could just draw the way I’ve drawn until now, but I only managed with the way I drew until now due to my youth. My drawing posture put a lot of pressure on my body, so I’m looking for a gentler way to draw.

Dazai Osamu, the God of Desire, was bored and wanted for nothing-- for he truly wanted nothing. He felt nothing, no desire, no motivation, no meaning to his immortal life. not because our hearts are large by intimatopia When we were little we made houses out of cardboard boxes. We can do anything. It's not because our hearts are large, they're not, it's what we struggle with. Oda has a thing for strays, but Dazai isn't a stray. Dazai's dangerous. It's not an unfair judgement if it's right.
