I highly recommend reading Mika Waltari's 'The Egyptian'. It's an amazing novel about an architect living during the time of the Akhnaten takeover (aka the Amarna period). I tend to dismiss most theories about the pyramids being any more magical than a cathedral, but I have to admit, it would be pretty exciting if that were true.
Thanks for the recommendation; it definitely sounds like a book I might enjoy.
